I had my hair done at Speedway Gadabout December 22nd. I had booked my appointment for hi-lights like I have gotten the past 7 years and when I got there my stylist suggested balayage instead (shocking, more expensive). I know that I had a decent sized root when going in to my appointment (5 months), but I, for the last 7 years have had my hair hilighted with a 4-6 month root so that it can grow between bleaches. This is why I thought balayage would be a good idea for me. My stylist had a great technique and I was SO excited the entire time to have that beautiful balayage hair you see online. I am pretty sure that the dryers did not get near warm enough to properly lighten my roots to the level of the rest of my hair, so instead my toner was left on for WAY too long to lift the bleach, like it was hurting my scalp. ALL of my roots turned completely orange and then my stylist said she did that to blend it better. It looks horrible. She said it would fade but now after a month and using purple shampoo it is still very very orange and now my actual roots are starting to grow in and there's a huge color difference and it does not look balayaged or blended or nice whatsoever. It's disappointing because the blonde is beautiful and she did a good job with the actual balayage. But it completely defeats the purpose of a balayage if your roots are nowhere near your natural color and you end up with like 3 colors of hair. I am just sad and disappointed because this was the most money I've ever paid to get my hair done. I thought I deserved to splurge and treat myself for once. But I ended up never hating my hair worse in my life. read more

I don't even know where to begin with this salon. I keep trying to force myself to like this place but the amount of times I have had to deal with ditzy people at the front desk or be placed on hold for 20 minutes just to make an appointment really makes me wonder how this place has so many locations and has lasted as long as it has. To me its chaotic when you first walk in not at all a relaxing atmosphere it kind of reminds me of walking into a Walmart. SCARY!! I went it for a simple updo I walked out with a head full of bobby pins and helmet head the stylist did not listen at all to my request or give the picture that I brought in a second thought overall a 1star rating is being overly generous. read more

The vast majority of the employees were stuck up and rude like we should be so ecstatic to pay them our money. the woman paying in front of me alerted the staff that her waxer had pointed put "problem areas" where she could lose weight! mind your business and do your job! I honestly did not really enjoy my experience at this salon. When I went, it was my first time. The stylist barely talked to me or paid attention to me. She did not offer any suggestions nor tried to hold a conversation of make me feel comfortable. After I went home after my service, I had dark hair die all at my roots, which clearly meant she did not put enough stuff by my roots to prevent that or she did not wash my hair out fully. I just felt such a disconnect at this studio. I prefer a much more interactive experience when getting my hair done. read more

I have been searching for a hairstylist for about four years. I have gone to gadabout since the 90s. My other hairstylist, that I went to for years left, and I have been trying other people with no luck! I finally found Samantha! She did a fabulous job with my blonde hair. She is showing me all the right products to use to make it healthy again. ( it is damaged from going to the wrong people!). I have finally found someone that I trust, I will stay with. Arrived 10 minutes before my appointment with Hazel that started at 5, wasn't seen until 5:15. Hazel seemed half a asleep and disinterested. She couldn't give two fucks about my haircut and failed to give me what I wanted. She carved the shit out of my head with the comb and now I'm stuck with a $5 haircut that cost me $35. I will try and go back again but I will not be seeing Hazel. read more

Whatever you do, don't go to Julie at the speedway location. She doesn't listen to what you want and will do whatever she thinks will look good. Which in the end doesn't look good. She'll spend the whole time telling you how good of job she's doing and once the color is done, you'll realize that it's nothing like what you said you wanted. Then she'll top it off by just hacking away at your hair. Adding no shape or layers. Maybe this is why gadabout should specialize in either being a colorist or cutting hair. Definitely not going back to gadabout because of her. You would think for spending over $200 you would get something you like. read more

I can not rave enough about this salon that saved my day last Saturday.. my wedding day! When out of the blue, the make up artist at the resort I was having my sunset wedding at quit and no one let me know, a mere week out, I was left clueless as to who was going to get my face and hair in order for the biggest, most special day of my life! I live in the PHX/Scottsdale area and had no clue as to what to do and my wedding planner suggested two traveling makeup/hair designers who would travel to my resort BUT for a premium! I was already so over budget I could not imagine stretching my wedding budget even further , so I turned to my trusty Yelp for help! Enter Gadabouts! Everything from booking and inquiring on my call to them was flawless; the girl I spoke with even directed me to the closest salon to my wedding resort/venue. Fitting me in at the last minute, though was the key! That is all I truly cared about! I was called a day ahead to confirm my appointment and the lady on the other end of the line advised me of construction in the area and where to park, something I would not have known not being familiar with Tucson. Upon arriving at Gadabouts, I was greeted by the super friendly staff in the super classy setting! There is an infused water station, which as a nervous bride, I needed lots of hydrating water! There is a coffee and tea station too near a cushy couch lounge area. I found this nice for my wedding party , ( and my somewhat , 'it's about me and not the bride' , person ), to hang out and give me their input on my makeup . Makeup: Katina! LOVED her! She used to work for MAC. Her attention to my pictures and what I wanted , which was as natural a look for a bride , with a tad of contouring , was on point. I truly wanted to box her up and take her with me for my everyday life .. which is, as some of you know, SKY high! In less than an hour, I looked flawless and my makeup lasted well into the night, thru my wedding ceremony , some tears, dancing , photos, more dancing ! I did purchase some lip makeup , but NOT because she told or pressured me to, but because I loved the pink shade of the Isaac Mizrah lipstick and liner. Next up for my wedding hair: John. I again, HIGHLY recommend to any picky bride, like me! I wanted a high, top bun with fresh off of Princess Grace Kelly style. He was awesome and I am sure at the offset, he was like, 'Really girl?!.. please.' He didn't show it. He went with my requests and changes like a champ of the high maint girl or bride. He even placed my Swarovski crystal headband and curled the ties and pinned them up with tips for how to deal with it later before the wedding ceremony. Other clients in the salon were complimenting him on my wedding updo! I felt honored because I felt I had a fail at my resort with my stylist disaster and ended up here with perfection ! I saved a ton of money to boot! I have a wonderful stylist in Scottsdale , but I seriously have fallen in love with Gadabouts in Tucson and I passed this on to my wedding planner at the JW Marriott Starr Pass also with Katina and Johns names. They all saved my day! I got so, so many compliments from my wedding guests and random people in the hotel before and after the wedding .. could be because I'm a bride and it could be the hair and makeup .. Whatever ! Giancarlo is an Italian hair genius. No....really. If you aren't sure what to do with your hair, book an appointment with him and you won't be disappointed. My friend introduced me to him after I continually complimented her on her rockin' short haircut and color. It was always looking gorgeous and something different. I'll admit I was nervous when I first sat down in his chair, but she assured me that he'll tell you what is the best cut for your face, but also listen to what you want...and she was right. A friend of mine gifted me with a very generous gift card to Gadabout several years ago, and I am so thankful he did! I checked on Yelp to find someone to get my haircut with and found Miranda. The reviews don't lie! This woman is a master craftsman of hair. I have since moved to Portland and can't find anyone in Oregon who can cut my hair like she does, so I always see her whenever I'm in Tucson. She has other clients that come in from all over the country to see her too. Her pricing is on the top of the pay scale at Gadabout, but she is worth every penny. My hair always stays beautifully styled for days after the cut and grows out well. If you don't want to see someone who is at the top of the pay scale, all of the hair stylists (and I believe estheticians) have to go through a 2 1/2 year internship before they can start seeing clients, so you'll be in good hands. I also received a facial and massage with my gift card. Both were great! The salon has a separate spa section for non-hair services, and it's incredibly quiet and serene in that half. The whole salon is beautifully decorated, and there's a great selection of coffee and organic tea for while you wait. I am thankful for Gadabout, and Miranda especially, for treating my hair right! She will have my business for as long as I come home to Tucson. read more

If you are looking for a FACIAL, watch who you book it with. I had a one hour facial with Monica, and was pretty happy with the service I received. My friend, however, had a facial with D. and was VERY DISAPPOINTED. Although she paid for the same service I had, she felt TOTALLY RIPPED OFF. Her experience was VERY different than mine. For those who want great eyebrows...go see Raina at the Speedway/Country Club location! Honestly, I don't have any other service done at this location except for having my eyebrows waxed. I had my hair cut there once a few years ago and it wasn't anything exceptional. However, Raina is fast and efficient with her wax wielding ways! She keeps the natural look to my brows, but keeps them cleaned up and pretty. She listens to you and is always willing to chat about what's going on in life. I finally booked a facial appointment after being given a gift card about 6 months ago, and holy moly did I need it. From the moment I got there, everything was just lovely. Aimee checked me in at reception and led me to the spa area to change; what a freaking sweetheart she is! Monica was my technician and she was simply divine. I felt like I was floating as she gently worked her magic on my sad, dull, broken out skin. I swear, when the music took a "nature" turn I felt like I was in a peaceful forest whilst my face was being cuddled by sweet, woodland creatures. Seriously though, Monica knows what she's doing and has the gentlest touch. My skin looks so much better, and now I shall forever be a slave to Gadabout and regular facials for as long as Monica is there. I have never, ever had a bad haircut from Marissa Diaz. I currently live in Los Angeles and make it a point every time I am in town to see her. She is a master at both haircuts and coloring. Two years ago I decided to go blonde.... Worst idea ever. ( my hair is pitch black ) My hair not only was severely damaged but also turned brassy orange. I was in tears and super embarrassed. I literally drove all the way down from LA for Marissa to fix my hair that someone "Professional " had ruined. Marissa saved my hair !!! ( and ego) And made me feel human again. TLDR; low quality and high price. I'm bummed with my experience here, as I really love when I can find THE place or person to do my hair in a new city. I'll keep this short--I asked for something very simple, and got brassy, thick highlights. I know the 90s are back, but we've reached a point where highlights can look natural. When I was told the sum total (150$), I was shocked. Turns out they charge extra for toner...the gal at the front desk took that off my bill, but with tip I still ended up paying double what I normally would, for a far inferior outcome. This was my first time going to gadabout and I'm totally impressed! I made an appointment for a color/cut. Everyone was so friendly and I really felt like I was being pampered (especially when they wash your hair and you get the most amazing scalp massage). Everything was great until I went home, washed my hair, and realized the color didn't turn out how I wanted it. I called to see if I could come back in to get it corrected. The only downside of my whole experience was that I had to call 3 times before I finally got a date figured out to come in. On the third call, the manager took the case into her own hands and got me an appointment for the next day. She even said they would do everything at absolutely no charge! My correction appointment was with a different stylist than my original appointment, and I'm honestly blown away by how she handled it. Instead of trying to "steal" me as a customer or talk poorly about my original stylist, she only had nice things to say about her! She said that they're all a team at gadabout. She even said that she put everything she did in my file, so that my original stylist could see it when I went back to her for my next appointment! They ended up having to recolor my entire head to fix the problem- and they did it absolutely free to me (of course- I tipped her). I will say just the original cut/color price was spendy. I'd never spent that much on my hair before. However, I only get my hair cut once or twice a year, and I might not even color it again for several months (the color I got will grow out naturally). So for me, the quality and service are totally worth the price. If I had to come in frequently, I don't think I could afford it. You are definitely getting your moneys worth here. I used to hate going to get my hair done. Almost as much as going to the dentist. Just not my idea of fun. I've been going to Gadabout for a few years. The Salon has a comfortable vibe with a hip "Industrial" meets "Provincial" aesthetic. You'll know what I mean when you see it. Everyone, and I mean everyone, is pleasant. They offer coffee, herbal teas, and infused water while you're sitting, leafing through various celebrity magazines, Elle, and my personal favorite, Architectural Digest. Giancarlo has done my hair all this time. He is an adorably funny, patient, and gifted stylist. He just celebrated 10 years with Gadabout, doing hair and teaching. He approaches his work with such joie de vivre that it absolutely makes for a fun experience. I love when he rattles off various numeric color combination to an assistant and they know what he's talking about. With my previous waxing I had gone to a cheap mass chain nail salon and while the experience wasn't terrible, it was anything but great. I have super light but bushy eyebrows and I had lost all hope until I stumbled upon the holy grail of eyebrows, Gadabout! When I walked in, the desk attendant checked me in, guided me to the seating area and asked me if I wanted any free refreshments. My appointment was right on time and after the waxing the redness around my eyes was very minimal. My eyebrows looked great and I intend to go again soon. (P.S. Ask for Joni!) read more

When I called for an appt., the receptionist was helpful. I had gone to Coyote Wore Sideburns in December and got probably the worst haircut and color ever...left me wishing I had actually gone back to complain..but I digress. I let my hair grow out a bit, then made the appt. at the Speedway location. Wow. I got lucky. Catherine made me feel so calm, even though I came in looking like crap.She gave me her very honest opinion, which I valued so much. I knew it would take something pretty intense to undo the badness from Coyote, but Catherine ended up giving me a great color, and a cut, and the treatment that, while expensive, does indeed make my hair silkier.
