I had a horrible experience with this Company. I had broken the glass on my iPhone 5s and they replaced it. Then two week later it pops out. I thought it was the case that was loose so I pressed it back in and because it was the glass that out it snapped at the corners. I returned to the store and they said because i "caused" the damage they would not honor my warranty. I took it Cell Phone Repair (CPR) in Ellicott City and they fixed and indicated that the glass was not properly reinstalled the first time and you could clearly see evidence of why it popped out. I had a cracked screen in my computer. After calling around local businesses and reading amazing reviews I settled on having gadget Guru complete my repairs. I went into the store, I was helped quickly and they were very friendly. However, It took multiple phone calls and follow ups to get my computer back, it was returned after the quoted repair time frame. I will give them credit, I did receive a small discount for that inconvenience. However, it was my work computer, being without it for over a week was like being without my right arm! I'm a project manager and my job lived on that piece of equipment. Then, fast forward 6 months, my screen went dark, too dark to see -- I called the company and they said it was 'outside the warranty' and that it would be a $50 minimum just to look at it.... so after over $200 the first time, I was back to square one... We ended up buying a new device as it was cheaper than sinking even more money into my current device... very unimpressed with the results... read more

My tablet PC wouldn't boot, displayed nothing on the screen, but was receiving power. After a few days they finished their diagnosis, saying it was a bad motherboard. I asked them how they determined that and was told that their was 'visual' damage done by a previous repair person. So all they did was look at the motherboard, see a scratch, and state that was the cause. That is not how you diagnose a computer or motherboard. You have a process of checking power, components, running a diagnostic laptop motherboard card, and check with a volt meter. When I said this they told me they don't have the capability to do anything else. They don't have a volt meter or a $10 diagnostic card? This is basic stuff. The symptoms could have been caused by a mother board issue, a bad CPU, or a screen issue. They charged me $50 for basically doing no diagnostic work at all, and provided the default diagnosis. I took it to Hackers Mancave, which after doing the required work they diagnosed it as a screen issue. They are repairing it now. read more

My Samsung computer was an ultralight laptop (it has a solid-state HD), but about 4 years old. Generally have had no issues, but lately, about 2-3 months ago, it started to make a lot of noise (like a fan was straining to work) and started to get pretty hot after use, especially if I had a lot of windows open in my browser. So decided to get it fixed and did not want to open this myself...Called Gagetguru and spoke to Josh about the problems. After taking a 50 dollar deposit promised to call me after open up the system to give me a better estimate of the problem. As promised he did just that, and took only one day to clean out the fan, apply some cooling gel/pad that had become bad and return the system to me. Total cost 120 (50 deposit + 70 for labor and parts)... I am impressed that it was quick and very reasonable. Liked their professionalism and service. Highly recommend these guys.. The short: On the same device, three iPod touch screen replacements and three cracked screens within 1-4 weeks of receiving the repaired device. Do NOT go there for screen replacements. Their screens crack extremely easily, and shame on me for trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. The long: My experience with Gadget Guru is negative based on my perceived quality of the glass which they use to repair iPod screens. I took an iPod touch to them in November to have a cracked screen replaced. I was very satisfied with the price and turnaround time, although it was a day or two longer than they originally stated. No big deal. Three weeks later, my little two year old dropped the iPod and the screen cracked again. It was the first time the iPod had been dropped since we received it and it cracked on the first shot. Inferior screen or my bad luck? I gave Gadget Guru the benefit of the doubt and chalked it up to my bad luck. I brought it back to Gadget Guru for the same service - the iPod touch screen replacement. I did mention that I was a return customer, and sadly they did not offer me any discount for returning. But that was fine (they didn't have to), and they performed the screen replacement even quicker than the first time. I also put a sturdier case on the device to prevent damage. Not one week later, two year old dropped the iPod touch AGAIN. Again, the screen cracked. And again, I asked myself - inferior screen or my bad luck? Maybe I'm just unlucky. I took the iPod touch back to Gadget Guru, explaining that I had just been there two times in two months to have the screen replaced and that it seemed odd that the only time the iPod was dropped, it immediately cracked. (This iPod has been through years of abuse with a different replacement screen and only cracked when another two year old threw it). They attributed it up to bad luck and offered me a 10% discount. I left it there with them for repair and hoped that I wasn't an idiot for allowing them to service my iPod for the third time in two months. I was being an idiot. After three screen replacements at $85 a pop, and only three weeks after the last screen replacement, I now have another cracked screen. The iPod is secured in a very protective case and I have mostly kept it out of abusive toddler hands, but there are now two very large cracks on the screen. I previously had this screen replaced two years ago by a company in Kansas. That fix lasted two years. These screens lasted less than a month. Three screen replacements in three months and a cracked screen resulting from the first drop of a well protected iPod leads me to believe that it is not me that is unlucky, but it is Gadget Guru that is replacing my screen with an inferior product. They may be good at repairing computers and game systems but I would NEVER recommend anyone to go there for a screen replacement. read more

Horrible experience. Took my $20 "diagnostics" fee. Had my ipod for over one week. Not one call or call back as promised. I had to keep calling to find out the status. On the last call, I was told that it has been repaired and the charge is $60. Just needed to be reset. Upon picking it up the following day, they told me that it is NOT repaired and they do not know what is wrong with it. I do not believe that they had it working or that they did anything at all. It is in the same "non-working" condition as when I brought it in. If it is a bad hard-drive as they think, bad hard drives so not start working and then stop again. Also, they never even offered to replace the hard drive. BUT they gladly took my money. They would not even give me a copy of their policies. I would NEVER again do business with Gadget Guru. read more

I had my phone screen replaced here almost immediately my phone started experiencing problems. I took it to the apple store thinking it was related to software. Apple told me GADGET GURU DID NOT USE AN APPLE SCREEN ON MY PHONE. The man at gadget guru told me and I quote "this is the last APPLE screen we have left in white", which was a lie. My phone's microphone is shot and unrepairable due entirely to the bootleg screen I paid a $125 for at gadget guru. This place rocks my world. I called ahead of time on Christmas Eve to find out how long it would take them to replace the screen on my 5S, and they said 45 minutes, come anytime. Walked in, taken care of immediately, they have a nice little room with comfy couches and a TV with cable while you wait if you choose to stay there. Took exactly 44 minutes. I would never recommend this place to anyone!!!!! Not only was I quote a price of $140 to replace my iPhone 6s Plus over the phone to find out after driving 20 miles to get there that would not be the right price but the price to fix the screen for iPhone 6s Plus is exactly $240 because of being an "s" model, so at this point I was pretty upset at it being almost double then what I was quoted but figured all places must be around the same price...You would figure right?? Well no not at all!!! While waiting to get the phone fixed I stoped at the AT&T store to get a new case and they let me know that they fix ANY screen for only $90!!! Can you believe that! Fast forward about a month later and I wake up to my screen not working!! Go figure smh!!!! This time I take it to the Apple Store were they tell me that it's the srceen and it needs to be replaced! They also let me know that they would of fixed the screen for $149 for again ANY screen!! Wow wish I would of know before I got a faulty "third party screen" that broke within a mouth of fixing!! Also but not least because I got it from a "third party" dealer the warranty was no longer on the phone from getting the screen from you guys and I suppose to pay now $149 to get it fixed!! After I located a used PS3 from a local pawn shop, Gadget Guru was able to restore my old PS3 to the recently acquired PS3 when they revived my old unit. Brought my phone here because the glass on my phone's camera broke. Small little 1/2" x 1/2" square of glass. I wanted to do the repair myself since the replacement glass was only about $4 online, but I ultimately decided I wanted the repair done correctly and professionally, so I brought it here. Mistake. I ended up getting gouged for $95 to replace this little $4 part, but I paid it because I wanted it done right. I pick my phone up, and there's glue smeared all over the inside edges of the brand new glass they just replaced. I bring it up to them and was told that it was a normal part of their installation process. Looks like crap, but I hoped the glue would dry clear and I wouldn't notice it. The glue dried even more obvious unfortunately. I then started noticing that my sent picture messages were never being received properly after the install, everyone complained that the pictures were digitized, incomplete, and obscured with green and black lines. Not sure how it relates to the repair, except it's related to the camera and did not exist until I got the repair done. Maybe they damaged some wiring somewhere, maybe it's an issue with my service, I'm not sure, but certainly is suspicious. But the biggest issue for me now, is that the replacement "glass" was not "glass" at all. Its a flimsy piece of plastic that I can bend with the slightest pressure. Because it is not real glass, it scratched just from being in my pocket, and now the scratches prevent my camera from focusing on anything and taking any pictures. So I went from having cracked glass, but being able to take pictures... to spending $95 on a terribly installed piece of cheap knockoff plastic that now rendered my phone's camera useless in both taking and sending pictures. Never again will I go to this place. If you're going to charge such high prices, at least use quality parts and do a professional installation... What a complete ripoff. read more

My wife cracked the screen on her phone. I dropped the phone off when the store opened, and it was returned to me the same day, but there was an air bubble in the screen and the reverse camera was blurry. They offered to repair the phone again at no additional cost if we were dissatisfied, which we were (if the phone was brought back to them within 90 days). I brought the phone back to be re-repaired and was told it would be a two day job. The phone was not ready until the end of the fourth day! Although it was completely fixed, my wife had to be without a phone for four days, when she planned to be without the phone for two days. This caused quite an inconvenience. When I contacted the store regarding reimbursing me partially for two days of delays, I was told I would not be reimbursed anything. When I told them that partially reimbursing me would make me completely satisfied, I was again told there would be no reimbursement. I have worked in customer service / retail jobs in the past, and making sure the customer was completely satisfied was always my top priority. Because of the flat fee charged for the repair, it seems obvious that Gadget Guru rushed the first repair, which is why it was not adequately fixed. Their second mistake was not being realistic regarding the repair time when I brought in the phone to be re-repaired, and then not communicating adequately regarding the delay. I had to call them at the end of each day to inquire in the status of the phone. Next time I need my phone repaired, I will go elsewhere. read more

I went to the Timonium store to have the cracked screen repaired on my Samsung Galaxy 7 phone. The screen was repaired for $143. A week later, I noticed that the new screen was cracked from top to bottom, even though in the week since it was installed, it simply sat in my pocket and in a drawer, and was never subject to any particular stress. When I took it back to Gadget Guru, I was told that it must have been my fault for having other things in my pocket that must have broken it. The previous screen had shown no damage for years before I dropped it. I could not believe that it was acceptable for the new screen to crack in a week, and suggested that it must have been a defective screen. The management at Gadget Guru told me that it was my fault only, but as a good will gesture, they would only charge $123 to replace it. Gadget Guru their "30 day warranty on defective parts" did not apply, and I was out of luck. I even suggested that I would pay the $50 cost of the new screen if they would provide the labor. The owner's response was simply that I was responsible. I felt personally insulted, and would recommend that any potential customers think twice before choosing Gadget Guru to make any repairs! read more

I dropped my I phone 6 plus and screen got smashed. I took it to Towson branch. They replaced screen. Next day I noticed touch ID not working. I took to Columbia branch. Person tried to fix it but during that process he tore my home button connection. He blamed on previous person who changed screen than he called his boss and he blamed that it got damage due to accident. I told them it was working even after I dropped phone. He switched my original home button with non original one and told me, will try to fix it in a week by sending to expert who works at owings mills branch. After a week I called them and they told me they are still working on it. Four weeks gone still they did not called me. I should have gone to apple store and paid 60 more. read more

Iwent into there store while I was taking my puppy to the doctor. they were very professional. i bought my 2 tablets in. one only needed a face which had broken which they fixed . but please, don't let them go inside your tablet because when I came to pick up the tablet which was supposed to be having the charge port changed,it was never done and they kept some of my money. When I called them back they swore they fixed but when I was in the sstore I was never shown that the tab worked and it never worked when I got home. When I took it there, there was a partial charge on it. When i got it back. nothing. If u are having problems with your charge port, they are not the place to take it. This is a terrible place to have a device fixed- beware. After bringing a MacBook Pro in for repair of the LCD, it was returned (several days late) with specks of dust all over the inside of the screen. When asked about the dust, they replied that "we don't work in a clean environment." When asked if this could be fixed, they took the computer back, and proceeded to break the screen. They refused to return our deposit and Paul told my son to "get the fu*k out of the store." They eventually did fix the LCD and the screen, but with dust still on the inside of the screen- a very poor job. It would have cost the same to bring the computer to Apple for repair, and we would not have had to deal with completely unprofessional and rude people who offer poor service. I visited gadget guru in Columbia and though they can get my iPhone out of recovery mode and they coulldnt. But however they have it on their website that can fix water damaged IPhones. I was not satisfied with their service because if they cant get an iPhone or figure out why it was in recovery mode then I am certainly sure they cannot fix a water damage iPhone like they said on thier website, which I think they want you to bring your phone in so that they can charge you for diagnostic and do nothing significant to figure out the real issue of the problem. So basically wasted my 20$ on a diagnostic they charged and now the phone is in DFU mode and I don't know how it got there in the first place and this was after the picked up the phone unfix. In all this place is not bad in term of price but bad in terms of service they are advertising. read more

READ THE FINE PRINT!!!! I brought my son's laptop here for a repair. They tried to replace the battery, which didn't fix the problem. Then, they decided that the entire motherboard needed to be replaced. Which may well be true, but we decided not to do that without a second opinion. This whole process took a while, and by then I was in a high-stress period at work, with travel, so it took me two months to find the time to pick it up. When I called, they said that they had already 'recycled' the charger and were about to recycle the whole laptop! I was very, very upset - obviously - to hear that they would simply do this without even making the minimum effort to contact me first! What kind of customer service is that? When I explained how upset I was, they just responded that 'it is store policy and is written in the document I signed'. But that was NEVER explained to me, not when I dropped it off, not when we discussed the repairs, etc. My son has files, photos, etc., on that laptop and would have been devastated! At least we were able to pick up the laptop, but I will not be coming back here for sure! read more

One of my dogs knocked my iPad Air off the couch and it landed, glass side first, flat on the floor. The next day the screen cracked throughout. That's what happens when you don't have a good protective case on it....lesson learned. I took the iPad to the Columbia, Maryland, Gadget Guru around noon on Sunday, August 30th. The "agent", for lack of a better word, took my iPad and said that as long as it was only the glass, and nothing else, that it can be easily replaced and ready the next day (estimate given). I had to pay $50 up front. I asked why money was required up front and the agent stated it was so they can run diagnostics. I'm not really sure why money is needed up front for diagnostics since I am not aware of any other business operating that way but I forked over the cash. I assumed I would pay for everything upon pick-up. The agent told me they would call me the next day when it was ready. The next day, August 31st, I called that Monday afternoon around 4pm to inquire on the status. The gentleman I spoke to (which was not the same person from Sunday) said it wasn't ready and as soon as it was I would receive a call. Obviously the estimate of it being done by the next day was not a correct estimate. I received a call mid-day on 1 September stating it was done and ready for pick-up. I get to the store location around 5:30pm and collected the iPad and paid the remaining balance due ($130). The total cost to replace the glass was almost about 1/4th of the price for a new iPad. Kind of pricey to charge $180 but I bet it's cheaper than taking it to the apple store (which I should have done in the first place, again lesson learned). Fast forward....I had to call to bring it back in. Good thing there is a...get this....30 day warranty. Last night, around 9pm on 3 September, the glass started to separate from the iPad on the bottom right side (as you are holding the iPad with the "Home" button on the bottom). I immediately took pictures with my cell phone to document. The next day (today September 4th) I called around noon to inquire if I could bring the iPad back tomorrow (which is a Saturday, September 5th) when the store opened and wait while it is fixed. They advertise on their website a waiting room while your repair is being done so it's only logical to ask for same day, right then and there, service....right? The gentleman on the phone said I could bring it by but it wouldn't be ready on the same day. I was informed that if I brought it in during the week versus the weekend that I could get it back the same day. I asked the gentleman if I could bring it by around 5:30pm on a Monday and wait in the waiting room for it to be fixed. He stated "yes". I have been told by the manager that they are not staffed to have devices repaired the same day on the weekends. **Maybe advertise that** As of 17 November 2015 my iPad Air does work however the aftermarket screen is not attached completely, my home button sticks, and you can physically feel the bottom of the iPad heat up after about an hour of use where I assume the internal battery is. The battery heating up never happened before this. You can see a cable under the glass which I was told is very difficult to put back in place. Also the glass does not fit 100% within the device. There is an exposed edge between the glass and case. I could bring it back for yet another repair but at this point I think I will keep what I have. The truth of the matter is that after all I have been through I don't believe this Gadget Guru location should be replacing glass on iPad Air tablets. I would ask for a refund, or better yet insist that they replace my iPad Air due to not completing the service as paid. The amount of time and money it costs for me to drive back and forth and continue having these issues warrants it. I just want my device to work properly because I use it for both personal and professional use. When I do replace my iPad Air for a newer model, and I have anything happen to my tablet, I will not be going to Gadget Guru. I will go either to Apple or another service. I have read a lot of reviews about Gadget Guru. Some were not good and others were on the other side of the spectrum. In my case I would say I am closer to the bad side of the middle. I am merely writing this review so you will have knowledge of my experience to help you determine if this service is right for you. read more
