Way back in the day (2003) I worked for OCHD as their immunization tracker & would accompany our immunization nurse to the middle schools for Hep B & Tetanus shots to 6th graders. The best part about those outreach clinics was lunch with the school nurses. It's how I found all the locals places. Yana's was our Swansboro go to and despite moving away in 2011 and just now going back, the food was just as delicious today as it was then. And everyone who has dined repeatedly at a favorite place knows things rarely stay (or taste) the same. Bestie & hit Yana's shortly after 11 this beautiful Saturday morning and even though there were 4 parties ahead of us, we barely waited 15 minutes. I've had alot of the items on the menu during those outreaches (and with family) and never had anything I didn't enjoy but today, I went with breakfast of a western omelet (minus the sausage & tomato) with hashbrowns (home fries) and toast. My omelet had fresh green peppers, perfectly cooked, griddle bacon and cheesy cheese. I just wanted to keep eating but I was getting full. Bestie & I also had a combination order of banana & apple fritters. My food was just as I remembered-DEEEEELICIOUS! And our fritters just makes me want to go back in a few days to see if they have strawberries in supply. Honestly, I would drive from our new home in Richlands down to S'boro every weekend if hubby would let me lol. If you decide to dine here & are put off by the wait, don't be. Fun old school type diner vibes place where a group of 5 enjoyed breakfast while visiting the beach. Lucked out coming in at a tine with no wait and got seated immediately. I enjoyed my chicken salad and French fries and really enjoyed the flavor of my chicken salad. Husband had a chili cheese omelette with fried potatoes and also enjoyed his breakfast. Absolute must visit in Swansboro! We came for breakfast/lunch and it was really a great experience. The waitstaff were very personable and helpful with recommendations. I had the Reuben ( with in house made corned beef) and onion rings because they hadn't made the homemade chicken salad yet. My companions enjoyed omelettes and pancakes which included locally sourced meats etc. The decor was very 50's/60's nostalgia, mostly centered around Elvis and Marilyn Monroe. Bestie has been trying to get me to Yana's for years but the timing never seemed to be right for us to go there together. Finally I was able to give it a try and I couldn't be happier with my experience! The decor makes me think of my family because they love Elvis and the dancing Elvis statue outside gave the restaurant and fun vibe. We had a very short wait prior to our table being ready but it was totally worth it. Bestie said I had to try the fritters and they came out piping hot and smothered in powdered sugar and whipped cream, inviting memories of childhood adventures to the fair to return to mind. The fritters were made to order with our choice of fruit and that day we had apples and bananas. I barely had room to eat my meal of ham and cheese omelet with hash browns and man oh man am I glad I saved some room. That ham and cheese omelet was so gooey and delicious, it makes my mouth water just thinking about it. The hash browns were well seasoned and crispy without being overcooked. The toast would've been perfect if it had melted butter on one side but hey not everyone likes their toast buttered. Food quality was less than expected. Sunday breakfast. Ham, eggs, hash browns: eggs over easy were good, country ham was sliced thin as a slice of bologna, hash browns were diced potatoes served cool like they had sat a while. Sourdough toast was one slice of bread cut in half. Seems like the kitchen is skimping on food quantity without addressing food quality. First time trying this place, disappointed. The food wasn't terrible but the service was. If you're not a usual here the staff doesn't give two fs about you. They have a lot of silly excessive charges that I was shocked to find out about once I got the bill. The host was more worried about her phone than getting people sat and taken care of. First time visit and it will definitely be my last! Eggs were perfect but the sausage was a very large,hard and dry link. Home fries had no flavor. Since everyone was saying we had to try the "fritters" which was actually just a strawberry dipped in pancake batter and fried - we decided to try an order. After she placed the bowl on the counter as I was reaching to get one a roach came running across the counter! Made me nauseus! Called the lady from the register over after showing her the roach in my napkin she simply said I am sorry we are a clean place and I will take that off your bill! The fritters get 5 stars! GO FOR THE FRITTERS! Everything else is your basic diner experience-although I do live for a sugar canister and not packets ob the table. So the sugar gets 5 stars too. There are lots of old pics on the walls, and the food was prepared quickly. The food was okay-I had an omelette and grits. Went to Yana's today and had a good experience with staff they were very friendly I got a cheeseburger and fries the food was ok not the best not the worst, the fries were brown (so dark that I thought they may be sweet potato fries) to my boyfriend and I they were inedible however they were cheap so we didn't make a fuss. Unfortunately 30 minutes after eating I had horrible stomach bug symptoms and here I am 5 hours later still feeling just as sick (this was all I've eaten today so I'm sure there was no other cause) I understand this can happen but I figured I'd give the heads up to anyone looking to go in the near future. read more

We were lucky as we sat down right away. 5 minutes later the line started. The food was very good. It comes out hot and quick. No complaints related to the food. Well, the rest of the reviews aren't wrong... the fritters couldn't have been any more perfect! We got the half order of peach fritters as a sort of "appetizer" and they hit the spot! You have to get them if you go! I also got the oatmeal with fruit which was a perfect consistency, scrambled eggs (which were overdone... and I like me eggs well done), and coffee (which was a bit watery and had some grounds in it). When we were done eating, it took us a while to get the check. I only say these things to make you aware... not to deter you at all! The ambiance is so fun and filled with 50s decor. Everyone is so friendly and many of the people dining are locals who say there isn't a bad thing in the menu. I look forward to going back! read more

After I explained that the ugliness was from my girlfriend, he accused me of not being man enough to deal with her. All I can say is that I did in a civil manner discuss with them issues with the food I received, however my girlfriend was not nice. First, to park, you drive down a hill into a gravel parking lot by a dock. One of those, I don't want to park here at night. Lol. I'm kidding. At first, the place doesn't look like much. Upon waking in the door you get that old time diner feeling. We were greeted at the door by nice friendly faces putting in work. Sit down where we want and the wait was not even a minute and the waitress was on us. The place was clean and comfortable to be in. Even the restrooms were clean, which is a surprise today. Being they cook the food to order, it takes a small time to get it. Worth the wait I say, gets to the table hot and fresh and it's done how you want it. Started with some apple fritters, to die for by the way. Then I went with some normal breakfast which was prepared great. Being it was my first time here, I also tried a nice all beef chili dog. To say the least, I'll be back for another along with the fritters. Mmmm mmm. One thing for sure, this place made me a customer that wanted to return again and again. Wonderful, quirky, locally owned business! The owner(s) obviously take pride in the food, the service provided and the overall customer experience. I was greeted warmly at the door and seated promptly. My order was a Spanish omelet which was served with homemade chili on top, grits and a biscuit. I also had a chocolate chip pancake on the side. Everything was served hot and fresh and quickly. If I had to give one criticism, the biscuit was a little dry. In fairness, it was towards the end of their Sunday hours and the biscuit had probably been cooked some time before that. I suspect the biscuits are normally pretty solid. Everything else was delicious! Waitstaff was attentive and the decor was interesting and fun. Will definitely be back when I am in town! read more

I was excited to try Yana's because of all the positive reviews and the talk of their fruit fritters. Fried dough around fruit, covered in powdered sugar with a side of whipped cream? Yes, please! The fritters were definitely the highlight of our meal. We got an order of 10 so we could mix and match two flavors. We got banana and peach. They also had strawberry and pineapple available. They came to the table hot out of the fryer and oh so tasty!! The rest of our food? Meh. We got breakfast food and it was your basic diner fare. Everything was slightly over cooked ... scrambled eggs not fluffy, more flat, which happens when cooked at too high heat; hash browns were diced potatoes, not shredded potatoes, and were very brown; and the sausage link was very dark. The biscuit the meal came with was decent, and my child liked the pancakes. I also got a coca-cola because the menu says they have the best tasting coca-cola. It was good, but I really couldn't tell a difference. The place is small - about 10 tables plus a bar in front of the grill area. We got there at 11am and got the last table. By the time we left at noon, there were plenty of tables available. It definitely seems more like a breakfast place than a lunch place. The decor is all Elvis, as you probably read in other reviews. Two jukeboxes, lots of Elvis posters. We couldn't really enjoy the decor because our table was up against the wall and we couldn't see any of it other than the poster above our table. There's an Elvis statue out front - good for silly photos. And I found a cardboard cutout of Elvis in the women's bathroom. While in there, I heard a man speaking, then realized it was an Elvis recording. Lol I'd go back for the fritters but that's probably it. The food wasn't anything to write home about, and the atmosphere was cramped and a bit stuffy (guessing maybe their a/c couldn't keep up, or the heat from the grill makes it hotter in there). Very busy, expect a wait during peak times. Family friendly. Has traditional breakfast foods on the menu and some lunch items. Notably their fritter - multiple fruits to choose from and made from scratch, fresh cut fruit and fried and DELICIOUS! A little gem found on Front street. We tried the banana and pineapple and honestly we can't pick which tastes better. The omelets look delicious as well and everything is fresh made to order. We are here right now. This is a Disney stop. The even have a store beside the restaurant;) I ordered my beloved grilled cheese sandwich with "white" cheese, I detest the yellow one, they nailed it. The bread is crispy and tender perhaps the butter is also from the fifties . The waitress was excellent and engaging, friendly, as I said is a Disney restaurant.
