First of all, I LOVE Gaia House Cafe, and used to go there multiple times a week back when it was on Diamond, and I still lived in GR. Now I can only go to the new Gaia when I visit. The food is still terrific. The atmosphere of the new place is dramatically different, but that's clean, being newer construction, polished and bright, unlike the old place, which was ragged around the edges and bohemian. The new place feels more like a restaurant you go to for a meal, pay, then leave, whereas the old one was a place you could bring a book and hang out at. All of that doesn't really matter because the important detail is that Rick, the original owner, gave the new owners the recipes, so the food is just as good. It wasn't easy for him to pass them along, but in the end, he did. If I'm remembering correctly, it seemed like today's Gaia has a couple of new dishes, like the Gaia Tempeh Reuben, plus their specials. But I could be wrong about that one. I love tempeh and had it at the old Gaia, but not in Reuben form. It's not a favorite. However, two of my favorite dishes are still the Mean Green Burrito and Veggie Stash. Rick used to offer a macrobiotic plate, but sadly, he got rid of that while I was still living there. I don't recall why. Maybe it wasn't popular enough. The new Gaia should try offering it again. See how people react to it now. Gaia still offers endless buckets of coffee. I love their fresh juices, like their Green Goddess (my favorite), Funky Monkey (I'll eat almost anything with bananas and chocolate mixed together), and mango pineapple. You can't go wrong with the pressed juices, especially their Hot Shot, a mix of lemon, ginger, wheatgrass, and cayenne pepper. Wooo! That'll start your day off right. I just love the intense bite from the lemon, ginger, and cayenne. I know the Jalapen-Yo-Business is probably much spicier, but it's most likely way too hot for me. However nostalgic I am for the old Gaia Cafe, the new Gaia House Cafe is an absolute winner and deserves your attention. Go for it and check them out. You might want to be a fixture there. read more

I've been to Gaia several times since they reopened in the Creston neighborhood back in 2021. The vibe inside is bohemian and cozy, and the food is all vegetarian or vegan. I love going to Gaia when I feel like something healthy, so after a week of holiday indulgences I placed an online order for pick up. Online ordering was easy and I could log in to my Toast account which made paying a breeze. My order was ready at the time they said it would be. I got one of my standby dishes, the veggie stash: assorted steamed veggies, garlic, ginger, tamari, redskin potatoes or brown rice or both, topped with Michigan monterey jack cheese, scallions, and sour cream. I always get it with half brown rice and half potatoes, which is the perfect combination in my opinion. I also got the miso Caesar salad: mixed greens, tomato, Kalamata olives, parmesan cheese, toasted local bread points, miso caesar dressing. This was my first time trying this salad. Everything was packed nicely and looked delicious. Nate and I split everything and loved this meal. The veggie stash was tasty as usual, and we added a bit of hot sauce at home to round it out. I love that the veggies are all perfectly cooked and not mushy. I think I've tasted more ginger in this dish in the past, but it was still good. The salad was our favorite dish! The dressing was savory and creamy, and the toppings all worked well together. It was also a huge portion, but I was really hungry. I would definitely get this salad again, probably to split. Gaia also serves breakfast items, fresh squeezed juices and smoothies, and their famous Gaia cookies which are delicious. I love this little cafe! read more

Food was AMAZING!! Perfect temp, perfect seasoning. Pro tip: get your potatoes "Rick's Way"... the vegan aioli was perfection. Bottomless coffee was only $3 and self serve... loved this because I always had a hot cup and could make it with oat milk just how I like it. I definitely recommend trying the tempeh, it's perfectly seasoned! Staff was incredibly kind and helpful, getting us everything we needed. Ps. They have every type of hot sauce that you could want. Restaurant was kinda small, perfect for a group of 2-4 but it would be kinda tight having a group bigger than that. I've been meaning to try Gaia House Cafe for quite some time now, however, I never was able to until recently! When walking inside, the interior is super cute! It's the perfect brunch place to go out with friends or even by yourself. They have a variety of vegetarian/vegan entrees, sides, and drinks! They also have an area for self serve coffee and water which I thought was really neat! I ordered the Gaia tempeh reuben and a lavender bliss kombucha. Both were super delicious! It was my first time having tempeh, and I definitely wasn't disappointed. The only thing was that it was a bit too salty, but nonetheless, still very good! It definitely went well with the kombucha! Went here for brunch with my sister and it was a lil hidden gem on a snowy day. The location is adorable and perfect for a girl's day brunch. They have vegetarian options. We ordered an omelette and since we are both GF, they replaced the toast option with potatoes that were delicious. We also ordered their juices. I got the mango one and she got the green one. To be honest, the mango one was not my favorite and my sister didn't like the green one, so we switched and we liked the choices we made lol Overall, it's a very cute location and I would definitely come here to have something warm to drink and a book to read in those little comfy nooks they have in their couch. read more

I truly hate give this place a 2 star review because I love the food, and the vibe here, but when I come in for lunch, and there are eight in the entire restaurant when I arrive, it is completely unacceptable to wait for an hour to have food arrive. I have worked in many restaurants over the year, and I know things can get hectic and busy, but to make a vegetarian meal for one, should not take anywhere near an hour. This is not my first time receiving more than slow service and food, (and it's not even really service as you have to get your own water and coffee, and coffee pot was out for over 20 minutes. On the plus side, the food is great, and so is the vibe. If you have time to hang out for a couple hours, a great place to go, but if short on time, you should move on. read more

I have been wanting to try this place forever; I'm glad I was finally able to make it happen! The inside is adorable and very casual. Guests can get water and coffee from a self serve station, and then order juices and food from their server. I started with a mixed berry juicee blend that was very fresh. They had several items on their seasonal menu that sounded tasty- I settled on the omelette with contained butternut squash, black beans, jack cheese, and maple glazed brussel sprouts. It did not disappoint! It was very large and I ended up only eating half. My mom ordered the veggie stash and enjoyed the unique mix of flavors. I had such high hopes for this place after it coming highly recommended by my boyfriend who is from GR. he was so excited to take me here since there's not many veg restaurants in the area. We were so disappointed coming in today. There was only one server working who was also acting as host. We waited 20 mins to be seated, she didn't even acknowledge us or the 3 other parties waiting at the door. We were seated and told to serve ourselves the coffee and water. Ok no big deal to me. But the hot coffee was cold, when I asked for it to be heated it was so hot it burned my mouth and I couldn't drink it until the end of the meal. When it came time to order food, they were out of beans! Literally half the dishes on the menu contain beans and I specifically came to this place for a veg breakfast burrito. We ended up getting the Paul collins cuban without beans, which was just not good. The tempeh was just doused in soy sauce and the corn tortillas were cold and actually hard. So sad, and I hate to diss on a veg restaurant making it GR but this was really unacceptable. Hope they can fix it up. read more

The long-awaited move across town, the feel of the place, the food -- it all made the move together. I could not be happier and more surprised. Things like this don't happen. If you like the bean dishes like the Jim White or Paul Collins and want some avocado with them then bring some slices from home because they no longer serve them as there was too much waste of food with avocado shrinkage. They were on Diamond Ave for 33 years until they closed in 2014. ⁣ ⁣ It is soooo nostalgic to see them make a comeback in none other than the beautiful Creston neighborhood. The waitress was really nice, apologetic, and gave a discount. I found the dust bunnies and litter under the bench in front a bit odd and gross for a food service establishment. My daughter and I both cheered when we dove into both because they were identical to our favorite meals from the old Gaia in Eastown. Mean Green is also excellent and enough for at least two meals. Great juice and coffee/tea options. There is something for every dietary preference or need on their menu. Stopped in for lunch on my vegan Wednesday's. Was welcomed by a young woman with a Covid mask in a mostly empty cafe. The small size is deceiving as there is a wrap around lounge space off to the right. I was pointed to the help-yourself water and coffee. A small art shop with tea and metalwork sat on a shelf. The bright whites and colors accent well this small brunch place. I got the chips and salsa which satisfies the heat and hunger requirements. Some electronic music played ordinarily in the background. The owner came into talk to her staff about plans. She chatted with me after I paid. Originally from Grand Haven, this woman entrepreneur is carving out a tasty haven near Creston Brewing for healthy eaters looking for a local twist. Highly recommend. read more

We are vegetarian and decided this would be an easy place to eat! The menu is full of good veggie stuff but the food left a lot to be desired. We had the mean green burrito and the Jim white. Nothing had any seasoning or salt. It was really just scoops of unseasoned food, piled on a plate. Not a single bit of flavor in the rice, beans, avocado, anything. And the spring mix salad in the burrito was a really strange concept that didn't work. Just really disappointing.
