I have always wanted to try Heritage Restaurant and provide a better learning experience for up and coming culinary students! We made reservations by calling (which the team was super friendly in finding a time that worked for our schedules a couple weeks in advance) and the food was excellent for the cost! We got a little lost in where we should go since I think they were actually in a temporary space when we went, but the prix fixe menu was wonderful and many options for all food lovers with their app, main and dessert. I think the students are doing a fantastic job and honestly it was a wonderful meal in town for a unique experience! I'd recommend going and trying the seasonal menus that they have to offer.

I had no idea this place existed! My boss took some of us out for a lunch on the town, and we had a great time. This restaurant serves as a classroom for culinary students, and the front and back of house are run by students learning their trade. Go with the expectation that it is a learning environment and you'll enjoy your meal. We enjoyed watching the training take place as the teacher was kind and patient. The food they're putting out is pretty impressive, and the aire of professional excellence is palpable. There was some lack of salt, but everything looked and tasted pretty wonderful. Also, the view of the city is beautiful.

The Heritage ⁣ ⁣ The Heritage Restaurant is a fine-dining experience by Grand Rapids Community College. Culinary student staff learn and show off their skills in this restaurant, supervised by Chef and Table Service Professors.⁣ ⁣ If you've ever eaten at The Heritage or know of those who have, you have no doubt heard phenomenal reviews! Just another reason to love the Heritage Hill neighborhood! ⁣ ⁣ They are open for Lunch and Dinner during specific times (Tu-Th), so be sure to check out their website for more info! ⁣

Have been here several times. The food here is five star rated and 3 star prices. They have a brewery in house too! The whole gig is run by the culinary students at GRCC. I love supporting the class. Don't miss this place

How did I JUST discover this secret place after 3 years of visiting/living in Grand Rapids??? It is fantastic, fine dining at fine prices! Nice simple clean decor, excellent service and ooh such deliciousness. The staff are all culinary students as far as I know and are very diverse, professional and friendly. If you are vegetarian there may not be a veggie entree available, I don't eat meat, just fish and the other choices were beef, chicken and scallop. They have some very tasty veggie options for the small plates and salads, so maybe get one of each of those. We shared a small plate and had an entree each and I was full for the rest of the day! I didn't see wine or alcoholic beverages which I didn't mind at all about. The juices and coffee are made fresh right in front of you on a cart which is fun to watch. Our waiter asked us, but forgot to show us the desserts, I had a cappuccino and was too full by then anyways :) Nice to sit by the window and have a nice view. Make reservations as it will get busy.

We are fortunate to have such a great restaurant in southwest Michigan. Attached to the Secchia Institute for Culinary Education on GRCC's campus, The Heritage restaurant offers patrons the opportunity to support a top culinary school in the country by indulging in the impeccably executed creations of its students. Here, one will be treated to the rare luxury of servers who are passionate about what they're serving because they, too, take their turns in the kitchen some nights and can prepare any of the dishes on the menu, with special accommodations if requested. They know every ingredient that goes into every dish, gladly explain how every dish is prepared, and revel in your enjoyment of their work. Such pride and ownership are virtually nonexistent in chain restaurants. As other reviewers have noted, the mock eel is a must for mushroom lovers. Also worthy of note are the Greek soufflé, foie gras creme brûlée, caramelized Brussels sprouts, striped bass, and butter poached lobster. There is literally something for everyone, and with warm, engaging, knowledgable servers like Rawan and Mike, (the king of quenelles) it is difficult to imagine anyone leaving The Heritage without a sense that he or she has been well-fed, educated, and inspired to return at the next possible opportunity. Treat someone special to lunch or dinner at The Heritage and support these young chefs of tomorrow.

There really is no better deal for great Food in GR! From tasting menus to lunch specials they cover a huge range of dining experiences and do it all with finesse. The community college-based student run restaurant with in-house brewery (also student run) really travels leaps and bounds above some of the nicer places in town. Their creativity and inspiration in food and beer are a force to be reckoned with. You HAVE to order dessert and be sure to try some of the table-side prep dishes they offer! Limited days and hours as they are only open during the school semester so make sure to check the yelp and website, but this is a great place to celebrate anything from birthdays and anniversaries to the weekend!

Foodies, if you make it to the entrance, you will have found the hidden holy grail of Grand Rapids cuisine! My husband gets props for setting up our reservation for a date night. The reservation was three weeks out- this place is popular! And for good reason: the food is high end, creative, and most important, delicious! It's the 2015 Open Table dinner award winner and their Mock Eel was voted best Vegan Dish by Grand Rapids Magazine. I ordered the Ishi Yaki Buri Bop and the Mock Eel. My husband ordered The Foie Gras Crème Brulee and the Lobster Newburg. The presentation was fabulous with my Buri Bop was served in a hot stone bowl of grilled tofu, sticky rice, mushrooms, veggies, seaweed salad with a mango egg yolk on top. The Lobster Newburg was an indulgent half lobster poached atop of a pastry tart filled with roasted scallop mousse. The sweet ginger and garlic coy sauce on the Mock Eel was a sticky sweet delight. The Foie Gras was served with a side of Michigan cherry chutney. Amazing! Between our appetizers and meal we enjoyed the apple Cider sorbet and a bottle of red wine (sorry, don't 'remember the name). A few things to note about The Heritage Restaurant: Yes, it's fancy, and yes it's phenomenal food, but it is a school first and foremost. The students of GRCC's Secchia culinary education program all rotate in the different restaurant roles and the manager/teacher is always on hand in the dining room. They take reservations because it's that popular but also so ensure that the students aren't slammed with tables, and they have the time to serve you and learn within a professional atmosphere. All the students I encountered were helpful, polite, knowledgeable and ready to serve - it's hard to find that in a "normal" place! There were a few hinky things that happened during out meal but nothing bad, and certainly, I've experienced way worse from other places; nothing that made me want to not come back. The only thing that was a buzz kill was the location; I commented to the host that it was like a speakeasy, trying to find the restaurant. It's located inside on of GRCC's buildings on Fountain Street (sort of kiddy corner to Fountain Street Church). You have to go inside the building, walk through the hallway to where it opens up (you'll see a huge read stairwell) and then turn left. The restaurant has a big red sign over the doors. Don't let the unassuming entrance and decor detour you. It's a gem right here in GR!

Top notch all the way. After dinner I asked to see the kitchen and it was spotless. Very reasonably priced too.

Honestly it was an incredible location for a space and had such a great vibe inside. My best friend is a regular at the restaurant and we're hoping to see them more in smaller capacities like when we saw them at the Fulton St. Market. Overall, the food was really good. I like the concept of fast-casual dining without the need to have a server. I think it allows things to feel more casual and allowed for me to be more willing to eat there (obviously in other circumstances lol). I got the horchata hot cakes with some of the papas with ghost sauce. I thought the pancakes were GREAT and more than worth it for the price. I was surprised how large and fluffy they were. The flavor was great without being too sweet and none of the flavors being too overpowering. My friends got the breakfast sandwiches and chaichata drinks and absolutely loved them. My friend loved her drink so much she got two within the span of us eating. I know it's a hard time for local businesses but I'm hoping there are more ways we can still see them around.

Different from the last time I was here but we were told to find a seat upon entering and that when we were ready, we could order our food at the counter. I looked over their menu and found lots of good breakfast taco options, the breakfast burrito I have heard is great, but what really caught my attention was the biscuits and gravy. I was feeling quite ravenous this morning and got the full order for $11 and a side of bacon. They had a table close to the entrance with extra menus, clean cups, water jugs, hot sauces, silverware and napkins. Seemed like a help-yourself vibe which I grabbed everything we would need for our meal. Our food was brought to us rather quickly and my bf ordered the breakfast bowl with scrambled eggs and sausage. He told me it tasted so good and he loved that he could make his own tacos with his food. He let me try one of the hashbrown rounds and it was perfectly crispy! My biscuits and gravy were phenomenal. The biscuits were so fresh and the gravy had a really nice and comforting flavor to it. You could get chorizo and mushrooms in your gravy but i went with a traditional sausage for my protein. My bacon on the side came in a tiny dish but I ate all four pieces haha. Once we finished, there were some bus bins under the same table with the silverware, we placed all our dirty dishes there and cleaned up after ourselves before leaving. I honestly felt so content leaving there and can't wait to return. I really appreciate the ambiance in there with the beautiful plant life, the lights on the ceiling, and cool decor in general. The staff was also SO NICE! Wins everywhere. I also noticed people coming in for takeout which is good to know in case I don't feel like dining in some morning. Please check this place out sometime if you're in the mood for some really good breakfast that doesn't break your bank account.
