I wrote a detailed letter to the salon explaining my experience and received no response from management. I am highly disappointed.

I recently went in for the mani/pedi combo as a treat to myself before I go into labor with my first child. The experience started out pleasant, but this changed and the end results were less than satisfactory. First of all, my appointment started about 45 minutes late because the client who was getting a manicure before me had on no-chip polish that was apparently nearly impossible to remove. This was not a problem at first, but would prove to be one later. The pedicure was nice enough, although for a "spa" pedicure I was really hoping for a longer massage portion. One downside was that she was so concerned that my no-chip polish would also be stubborn that she wrapped my fingers in foils to soak off the polish for the last half hour of my pedicure. What I found most disappointing is that when I finally went to put on socks and real shoes FOUR HOURS after my pedi was finished, the polish on my big toes was majorly smudged and essentially ruined my pedicure. When it came time for the manicure, she had trouble getting my polish off despite the fact that I had been soaking forever already. She became frustrated and told me that the last place that did my nails used very cheap polish and that is why it wouldn't come off. She ended up leaving me to soak my fingers in a bowl of acetone for about 5 minutes while she expressed her annoyance that she was now going to have to push back her next appointment. When she started trying to scrape the polish off, she told me that I shouldn't even be getting my nails done at all since I'm pregnant!! Last time I checked, that was the business of me and my doctor (who has zero issue with it). Once the polish was off, she rushed through the rest of the manicure. And similar to the pedicure, my polish chipped within less than 24 hours, and I have had two of my normally not-brittle nails break off within 3 days of my manicure. I am also suffering from scaly, overly dry, and peeling skin at the tops of my fingers around my nails, something I have never before experienced. I don't know if it was from the acetone soak or the foils being tightly wrapped on my finger tips for an extended period of time, but no moisturizer is helping. Lastly, I was MAJORLY overcharged for my services, especially considering the end quality. The "pretty hands and feet" spa mani/pedi combo is supposed to be $72 (separately they add up to $80). I was charged $85 for an appointment that started 45 minutes late where I was made to feel like an inconvenience. I definitely will not be returning to this salon. For $40, I could have gone to my normal nail place and gotten much friendlier service, a better end result, and a 10 minute leg massage during my pedicure. I feel like I wasted a large amount of money to have my nails ruined. read more

The best Brazilian wax I have ever gotten. I booked last minute and wanted to get in as soon as possible. They said they had an opening with an older gentleman... I paused but then decided what the hell! Tim was incredible. He was very thorough and nice. The room had very much a spa feel which is great. He did not get the backside but I also didn't ask. The price is hefty but well worth it! The best part was ending with a heated towel! Wonderful! I will be returning. read more

It has been over a month since I was in for a massage at Gaia, but I still remember how relaxed and "in tune" with my body I felt afterwards! I could use another one right now, as a matter of fact... In any case, Gaia was able to squeeze me in with little notice, and was up front with me when it turned out that their only masseuse working that day was male. I wasn't worried about that, so I went ahead and made the appointment. I'm not all too familiar with Northwest Indiana, but it was easy to get to and located on a quiet side street close to Highway 30. The massage room (or one of the massage rooms) is in the back of the salon, towards the laundry machines and other smaller rooms (possibly the restrooms?). That fact is the reason my review is only 4 stars and not 5; I kept hearing doors opening and closing and the washers run during my massage. Now, don't get me wrong - I was relaxed, but not to the point where I could tune those things out. With those facts aside, I could not have been happier with my massage. I believe the masseuse's name was Tim, and he did a fantastic job. He took the time to ask about my back problems, but it didn't detract from the time or quality of the massage, as he found other ways to work on that part of my back. I really enjoyed that he focused mostly on my back, shoulders, and neck, but also appreciated the brief visits for my legs, arms, and hips. I've been getting massages since I was 12 (spoiled, I know) and while I love my hometown masseuse, I finally have to embrace not living there anymore. I will gladly drive to Shererville if it means I can keep getting massages here. read more

I had a haircut and pedicure at gaia. I was honestly a little hesitant of this place because I never received a phoned appointment confirmation. I never realized how convenient these are until I didn't have one. Beyond that my pedicure was wonderful. I love that the pedicure chair is privately placed behind a curtain. Its very relaxing. The foot massage I received was one if the best I have ever had. While it wasn't long the pressure was just right. My haircut was nice also. My stylist and I didn't communicate much but I don't mind it that way. She was friendly enough and I loved her work. For a 28$ haircut I am impressed. I will definitely be back to the salon and am happy that I chose it over other nearby options. read more

I've recently moved to Schererville and also lost my long-time hair guru/friend, so was pretty apprehensive about trying a new salon. Happily, I found Gaia Salon! The atmosphere is calming and natural and the personnel are all extremely focused on customer service. Hair cuts/styling and color are great! I've not had a massage, but can tell you that if you ever need an upper lip wax, this is the place to go! Even something as minor as a lipwax is done much better than any other salon I've ever tried. there's a nice selection of products and staff to give you their honest opinions on best ones for your particular needs. I can't say enough good things about this salon! I am originally from LA and then lived downtown Chicago so am used to the best hair salons. I was a little nervous when I moved to a small town in IN that I wouldn't be able to find the quality and caliber of salon I was used to...then I found Gaia!!! This place is trendy and comfortable and a nice relaxing beautiful environment and the staff and stylists are all awesome and friendly and know their stuff! I walk out of there every six weeks feeling and looking amazing! I even got my husband to start coming and now we both come for our hair and waxing and facials! A full service spa salon that is wonderful...what more can you say? I have been coming here for 4 years now and will continue to come...the only thing that will end my relationship with Laura and her staff is a move to another state! Very nice local salon. I was worried moving back to Indiana I would not find a nice quality salon. The prices are great too, for being an Aveda salon, compared to what I experienced in Chicago. I went in today to get some gift certificates for my girl friend. The receptionist had such a warm bubbly spirit about her. She knew exactly what she was talking about and made some great recommendations. She gets a A++ she was the best. Great prices for some amazing stuff they do.
