I've been coming here as a child because my mom forced me, but this place sucks. Always have to wait so long, the Middle eastern Doctor pisses me off so much, I nearly punched her. She forced me to get a flu shot when I had said no, she looks and talks as if she has no idea what she is doing, her English is severely flawed. She's rude and doesn't care about her patients. Even walking into this place gives me anxiety. When you're scared of getting shots or whatever they don't help at all, they actually made me feel worse and they kept saying it was gonna hurt. If I could rate this location lower than a 1, I would. I called ahead to confirm my insurance would be taken and made an appointment. When I arrived, I waited about 2 hours before learning my insurance was actually not taken. When I explained the emergency I was having, they agreed to see me. As somebody who works in the medical field, I was appalled by my meeting with Dr. Merchant and her apparent discomfort talking about my symptoms and my treatment options. She pushed me to use the pharmacy on site after I repeatedly stated this was much less convenient for me. The worst part of my experience with this place happened weeks later when I experienced LIFE THREATENING side effects from the medication she prescribed. Later, I learned a few simple questions and information I completed on my intake paperwork should have been signs that the medication she prescribed was not appropriate. Over the 3-4 hours I needed to spend at this awful place, it appeared every patient was having an atrocious experience. When I asked for referrals, Dr. Merchant also repeatedly tried send me to locations where I have previously worked and provided me with inaccurate information about these locations. I can whole heatedly say this was the worst experience with a medical professional I have ever had. read more

The facility and medical staff are great! Very clean and the front desk girls are very polite and friendly. The dr does take a while to attend to patients so expect to be here for about 40-60 min just waiting for her. I love that you can pick up your prescriptions at this location as well. If they could get the appointments to actually happen on time they would get 5 stars from me. read more

I am appalled at the service I received at this doctor's office. I can't believe people like this are allowed to call themselves doctors. Shameful. I will never return. I brought my 2-year-old son in with a fever that had lasted 3 days. Dr. Merchant seemed uninterested, quickly prescribed an antibiotic and said, "We'll see if this clears it up." It seemed like she was just guessing about what was wrong with him. I pressed her, asking, "So, you're not convinced it's not the flu?" To which she responded, "I'd have to do a throat culture to find out and we don't have that test here." Don't have throat culture tests???? Seriously? What kind of doctor's office doesn't have them? It's so basic. Without asking, they sent my prescription to the pharmacy in the lobby. So, I just filled it there and went home. It was supposed to be a 10-day treatment. My son's antibiotic ran out on DAY 6! This place isn't near my home so I called to complain and ask him to have the prescription transferred to my pharmacy. He complied and then never sent the transfer! After a long wait and more phone calls, I got the antibiotics, which I had to pay for. Horrible experience. Located at 4941 N. Very disappointing experience. Went there to complete my annual checkup. Did not get the service I expected. First of all, the med center in Edgewater, 5725 N Broadway St is not longer functioning/open but it is listed all over the net. They have to update the address information. Dr. Zarina Merchant is extremely slow in her work. I do not feel she spends the appropriate amount of time with patients. She does not speak English and is not able to explain properly to patients the test and the results. Waiting for seeing is too long - always one hour even if you have an appointment and come on time. You have to wait between 40-60 min to check in. Will not visit again. read more

Brought some family members here for immigration physicals after doing some shopping around, they quotes us a great price of $175 with immunizations included. I had to take a day of work to bring them in. After we got there and registered, they told us it would cost $275 with the shots. They refused to honor the price they gave over the phone, and would not let us talk to the person who quoted the price. SHADY! stay away. read more

The first time I went to the office, I had a 9:30am appointment. I got there at 9:15, and the receptionists told me no doctor would be in the office until 10:30, and that they didn't have my appointment. I should have never gone back but I did. The second time I went to the office, I had an 11:15 appointment. I showed up on time and did not see anyone until 12:15. The doctor suggested as part of a general physical exam I get tested for tuberculosis. Some staff member led me to the back of the office to a dirty room, and stuck a needle in me. Then she told me I would have to come back in two days on Saturday to have them look at the injection site and give me the results. The only problem was I was busy all day Saturday with things I couldn't miss. If I would have known before the shot was given that I would have to come back, I could've just rescheduled. Instead, I got stuck with a needle for no reason. When I explained to them my frustration, and that in the future they should tell people that they will have to come back in 48-72 hours (or make the injection pointless), they didn't seem to get it. The whole staff seemed incompetent. If I could give this place zero stars I would. Avoid going to this place. read more

This is regarding the office at 5725 N. Broadway. Not so much a review but a sharing of experience...this isn't specifically about Dr. Close, who is a doctor I had reviewed previously (5 stars) and is supposed to be working out of this office now, but he is not there currently. Last time I went to see Dr. Close in August I got to my appointment only to learn that Dr. Close was not in and that I had to see another doctor in the office. The other doctor I saw was not nearly as communicative as I have found Dr. Close, and I didn't really feel good about that. Flash forward to last week and I called again to get an appointment and was told by Sandra that Dr. Close was on a "leave of absence." I called back later in the week to try and get a prescription refilled, and Sandra said to have the pharmacy call, which I did. 4 days later and I hadn't heard from the pharmacy, so walked over to CVS and they said me that the doc's office had not returned their call. They called again while I was waiting but was then informed that the doctor wasn't available. I called the doctor's office twice today and the call went to an answering machine both times. I'm out of patience. And I'm afraid soon they will be out of patients. read more

In late October 2013, I went here twice. Once for a checkup and some blood tests, and the second time to "discuss" the results of the blood test. However, upon arriving the second time, I was made to wait for an hour, and then simply told everything came back negative and shushed out the door. I was extremely upset that I'd missed a day of work just for a ten-second conversation that could have taken place over the phone, and now I find I am being billed another $52.60 on top of my already-paid $30 copay. Facility is of bad quality, nurses are extremely rude & not helpful, service is slow even when office is empty, and they have shady accounting/billing practices. If I could give less than 1 star I would. The bad reviews are all true. This place is 1.) extremely unprofessional (word of advice to the male doctors that come up to the front desk and flirt with the girls - stop. Be a professional. Do you not realize all the patients in the waking room can hear you? You're supposed to be a medical Dr.) 2.) the staff upfront discusses other patients in front of patients and is extremely unorganized 3.) Dr. merchant was completely unconcerned with the real reason I was there, tried giving me a physical when I was specifically there for my foot, and told her multiple times I do not want a physical I'm here specifically for a foot, after many times telling her no she stopped. I'm assuming she insisted on it to make additional money. 3.) As if the first visit wasn't bad enough, I had made my first appointment specifically to get a referral from a general practicioner, they told me I had to come back to get it, so I did. The STAFF set up an appointment with a specialist (in their own office of course) and when I arrived the staff told me "oh no we don't have your referral. You can't see the Specialist." So, I waste time and money, I see Dr. merchant specifically to get a referral, I call ahead the same day as my s cons Appt to see that specialist to ensure I can both see the specialist and also get a paper copy of my referral, the receptionist tells me yes. I leave work for the appointment that the StAFF scheduled only to find out when I arrive that actually I can't see anyone and they've "misplaced" my referral. WHAT a joke. Do not trust this office with your health. The Dr. seems involved only for the money and the staff cannot keep track of their own documents who knows what else goes on. Unreal. read more

Want a doctor that will get you hooked on a medication, and then blame you for the problem? Look no further than Jose Castellanos. I ended up in the ER with seizures because of this medication. I was not told this was one of the side effects. After the ER I spent 4 days in the ICU. The doctors in the ICU told me to go back to my PCP (Castellanos) and he would help me get off the medication. Instead when I went to see him he had me wait two hours until I had to leave, refused to help me, and was only concerned with his medical license and the "DEA" showing up at his office. He had no problems charging my insurance or taking my cash payments and writing prescriptions before I had negative side effects from the medication. But as soon as I had negative side effects, and he believed he could get in trouble - he could not have cared less about me. I wish I had never met him, as his "medical advice" (I use that term loosely) was god awful. He was happy to take my money and bill my insurance as well as turn a willfully blind eye to side effects of the medication and fail to warn me of the dangers. But as soon as the side effects occurred he turned my back on me. I would not trust him to water a plant let alone take care of another human being. read more

today is 11/03/2017 i just came back from this clinic and i had the worst experianc ever i was treated very bad and i was completlly disrespected i honestlly wish i never went there i got NO attention from DR merchant Dr: Merchant did NOT give me any attention what so ever she was not even looking at me and she was working on the computer while she is in the room with me checking other patients information which is not time for this it was time to check me and my 2 year old daighter , i had to ask her for 3-5 times for everything to get an answer and asked her twice to check my daughter and she only checked her third time i asked ... my 2 years old had fever two days ago and she barly checked her throat and her ears but still did Not prescribe anything i was at pharmacy clinic that night who told me that my daughter she has ears infection , which will Not go away in 2 days when my daughter went for visit , she needed amoxcilin and tylonal dr merchant refused to prescribe anything i asked for vitamins but also refused to prescribe her , my mother us a patient of her for more then 10 years and she refused to give her any refill for her migarin and her blood pressure medications and my mother pressure was 184 she really needed it and she refused to give her anything , i have migarin too she refused to give me anything at all , this doctor ONLY takes $$$ for visits from the govermant and she does not take care of her patients as she supposed to , 0 out of 10 her attention to her patients completly disrespectfull , DR rustom nasar Needs to do something about this ! i will never go there again thank y read more

Staff was nice, the doctor I saw was absolutely clueless. Barely spoke English, was rude and would take up to a week to get a prescription filled. Often would have to keep making follow calls to the doctor's office just to be told she hasn't gotten to it yet. If you value your health stay as far away from this place as possible. read more

If I could give this place no starts I would. There was 1 competent nurse there and I felt bad for her. I got my physical exam here and got charged $551 ($200 was to establish a patient file) and they billed me a month late. I called on Sept 21st to pay my bill and got told my insurance paid for everything. Gave them my case number and asked for them to double check. They said I was fine. I got another bill in the mail this week saying I still owed them money and would be turned over to a collection agency if I didn't pay. I've called them 4 times today and every time the phone rings until it disconnects. The Dr here is ignorant and unhelpful as is the staff. I had to come back for some test results and waited 45 min in the lobby for them to see me. They charged me $35 and brought me to the back to say I should take more vitamins. That's it. If anyone knows where to report predatory practices for clinics please let me know. They should be reported and fined or shut down. They aren't helping the community they serve, they're leaching off it. read more

Not sure what the other reviewers are talking about. Place was clean when we went there. Yes we had to wait -- perhaps 1/2 hour --but no more than any other doctors' offices. When we met with Dr. Rustom he was professional and courteous and seemed to know his stuff while listening respectfully to our concerns. The bill was comparable to other doctors from whom we have sought medical care. Front desk staff not outstanding, but not rude either. read more
