I had a very nice lunch here after walking around the Trinity College. Hamburger I had was very good, very lean meat with nice fresh arugula, good cheese and good bread. One of the best hamburger I ever had. Potato they served on the side was very big but like all the potato I had in Ireland, it tastes very good. I could tell the quality of ingredients they use for their food. Service was excellent. Very friendly and attentive, nice ambiance, really enjoyed everything about this restaurant. Excellent restaurant! We came here about 30 minutes before closing on our first night in Dublin and the kitchen was still open so we ordered the goat cheese and portobello starter. It was excellent and the service was so pleasant and the dinner menu looked very good so we decided to return for dinner with 2 guests. We had the goat cheese and portobello starter again. The goat cheese is an award-winning Irish artisanal cheese. We had the pan-fried sea bream with the tomato and red onion dressing, the soy and ginger glazed poussin with coleslaw and chunky chips, the beef and Guinness stew with puff pastry lid, and the lamb shank with carrot and parsnip purée. We finished with the sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream. Everyone enjoyed their meals very much and the people who work here are really nice. (Our 2 starters, 4 entrees, 2 desserts, bottle of wine, and 2 coffees cost 117 EUR plus tip.) Even though this restaurant is listed as French (which I don't see as a positive) on Yelp, I would say it is more modern European with modern takes on classics such as Irish Stew and Lamb Shanks as well as other dishes. A solid spot! I've now had the pleasure of dining at Gallaher's Bistro 3x, and I've surmised its a good spot. The service may need a *bit* of fine tuning to earn that 5th star but on my 2 most recent visits this week they were very friendly and certainly trying hard to please. Sunday evening dinner: my colleague and I opted for the prix fixe. I enjoyed the gravadlax (delightfully fresh) and her the chicken liver parfait (uber rich). For mains we both had the roast chicken which was an inventive twist on a typical roast, and was much more sophisticated than what I had expected. A few glasses of red wine and a crumble to finish...we were very happy with our meals. I returned Thursday late afternoon for a quick bite before the airport (solo). It was not busy at that hour (around 3ish), and the service was a bit peppier. I tried both specials (celeriac and mushroom soup + BLT). Perfect. Hit the spot and I was ready to embark upon my travels. No complaints at all and the food was very nice at the price point. It's definitely more of a restaurant than a "coffee house" as the name might suggest, and their menu is a cut above what you might expect. The building is gorgeous, the layout comfortable and it gets quite busy at lunch due to proximity to office buildings. I'd certainly go again, it's a solids standby when you need a hearty meal or glass of wine. read more

The best part of the afternoon was the fun all the "hens" had contemplating the upcoming wedding. The place was fairly empty except for our group of ladies. I visited this restaurant last week and it was overall a very enjoyable experience. We were warmly greeted and all of the staff which we encountered we very friendly. We had purchased the Afternoon Tea Grabone deal which included tea for two with a glass of Prosecco each. As I was driving and my guest doesn't drink we declined the Prosecco and straight away the staff member offered a non alcoholic alternative which was very kind. They were very relaxed and seemed to genuinely enjoy helping customers. The food was mixed. We enjoyed the cheesecake and chocolate cake! The sandwiches were fine however if I was to make any suggestions, I would improve the breads which they use. The atmosphere was very pleasant. It was relaxed and chilled and the staff did not rush us in any way. I think this is a nice place to meet for a coffee and I would definitely return for that. Food wise, I would be inclined to select another cafe in the locality such as KC Peaches or Avoca. read more

I was all set to give these guys a stunning four star review but unfortunately it all went pear shape soon afterwards. My friend decided to have a few of us get together for birthday dinner. With fantastic BYOB offers, how could we resist! The menu looked great and the atmosphere was lovely. I thought we were on to a winner. For starters I have the duck parfait with Melba toast, and it was good. Not the best I've had, but certainly not the worst. The portion size was also good. For mains I decided to try something different and this is where it all went wrong. I ordered the mussels and fries. Out came the largest portion I have ever seen ever. The portion was so big I opted to share with the birthday girl. The white wine sauce was good if a little too rich. Excellent value at 16e, with a free side of food poisoning. Yes, that's where it all went downhill. So having been awfully ill all Saturday night (birthday girl was also ill, might I add so it had to have been the mussels. No one else in our party was sick) I emailed the restaurant on Sunday just to inform them of the issue and make sure it doesn't happen again. I could forgive them for one bad dish if the restaurant had handled my complaint with a little more compassion. I didn't hear back despite using the contact form listed on the website so I decided to call. I was met with a very apathetic manager who did not apologise and fobbed me off with 'all our food is brought in fresh each morning'. That may be so, but your kitchen made me ill. A simple apology or sympathy would have gone a long way to save you a customer, but no. I will not be back any time soon. If you do decide to try it, avoid the mussels. read more

Very cute restaurant across from Trinity College. Went in for lunch, the Decore is very nice, staff greeted us right away & extremely friendly. They seemed a little confused on the yelp check-in free drink issue. But they were friendly enough and resolved it. I ordered a salad, and instead they brought me the butternut squash sandwich. I didn't say anything, just ate the inside. My husband ordered a Cajun chicken sandwich, he said there was very little Cajun on it. Skinny fries were good. I would probably return for soup & scone. My husband and I visited today for our first wedding anniversary by chance. On our first trip to Dublin we stumbled onto the restaurant and did not have a reservation, instead of being turned away like another restaurant, we were graciously seated and enjoyed the wonderful lamb and pork chop. I hadn't heard of Gallaher & Co until last night, and I'm so glad I had the chance to check this place out. Upon arrival, I was greeted with the utmost friendliest and accommodating staff, pointing way to my table. They've got a Christmas evening special going on, where you can choose 3 courses for €35. For the quality of food here, I'd say it's a good steal! To start, we had the Scallops with Black Pudding Puree--pure deliciousness. The scallops were pan-seared and cooked to perfection; they just melted in your mouth. Accompanied by the black pudding and apple puree, it was a perfect pairing because I loved that the pudding wasn't too rich, but added just the right amount of flavor to the scallops. Onto the mains, we had the slow-roasted lamb rump steak, which came topped with shallots, seasoned perfectly with rosemary, and a side of baby potatoes and green beans in a red wine jus. The lamb was cooked just right and was fall-off-the-bone flavorsome. I would not hesitate to get that again! To finish, we ordered the dark chocolate and orange mousse. It came in a gibraltar glass, topped with raspberries and a slice of orange, to cleanse the palette. This dessert was absolutely divine--incredibly rich and absolutely heavenly. I'm usually not so much of a dessert person myself, but it was the perfect way to end the meal. Not only that, but we paired this chocolatey deliciousness with a glass of Amaretto; it was hands-down the cherry on top to a perfect meal (and highly recommended)! What was even more incredible than the food was the remarkable service. I hadn't been to a place in Dublin that was more attentive, and I really appreciated their level of professionalism and courtesy. I would highly recommend this place for a simple girls night out, date, or nice dinner to treat yo'self. They do, however, get fairly busy into the night so remember to call and book ahead! TIP: They have BOYB, so if you take a look at the menu beforehand, you can pair your courses with the right wines/bubbly! read more

Gallaher & Co Bistro isn't around for too long - I can remember the numerous times I passed by that remarkable building, always wondering why no one cares to put some effort into it... or cares to take some money into their hands to pay the sky-rocking rent. Well, Gallaher & Co did and created something wonderful. A very unique, clean, contemporary place, something between restaurant, bar, and lounge. Maybe "Bistro" puts it well. I don't know. Many small tables, a long bar area, large mirrors, high ceilings. Shiny interior. The food lives up to the standards. It is prepared like what you would expect from a 5 star restaurant, just without paying as much for it. The portions are bigger. The drinks are good. The service is friendly and fast. If, as a business, you utilise grabone etc for vouchers, its not very nice to act like it's such a hassle when a customer avails of a voucher. Every. Single. Time. Decor - Gorgeous. Food - Great. Staff - Rude and abrassive. There are always a load of stipulations to using the vouchers - I can deal with that - but its the attitude you receive when you present one. I have never encountered it anywhere else and I am a serial groupon user. We felt so uncomfortbable and self-conscious on this last visit - just ruined the experience. Will not be back. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed my spot of afternoon tea here on the weekend, served 12-5pm, its plenty to keep you going most of the day, and really good value too, we got so much between 2 of us that the friend who came to join us didn't need to make any additional order, there was more than enough to go around! Gooey chocolate orange cake, salmon on brown bread, scones with clotted cream and homemade preserve, wraps and all sorts of tasty goodies were included. And staff were very accommodating, as we had to push back our booking by 1 hour and this was not an issue, also they were friendly and attentive. The tea is €17.50 for the food and coffee or €25 if you have bubbles to drink instead, I naturally went for the latter option! And finished it off with a really solid house white for the princely sum of €20. I was informed that if you are there to eat lunch or dinner toy can BYOB, so certainly one for myself and the girlies. I spent one week in Dublin and I had dinner here at least 3 times. They have a fixed price menu but with a lot of options. Besides it's gourmet food in huge portions so it's perfect. Hmmm...this is a bit of tricky one. I love the interior, it's got this cool modern NYC feel to it. We had a reservation for brunch the other day and were starving when we got there. Our orders were taken promptly; my friend ordered the Gallher's full Irishand I had the salmon and prawn open sandwich with the soup of the day which was sweet potato and carrot. Like any respectable Yelper I checked in on the app to be surprised by a 'free beverage with your Yelp check-in' - sweet! I asked the waiter about what kind of beverage we are talking about here but he didn't know anything about it. Would he mind checking with another staff member I asked but he was the most senior there and reckoned it was a new thing management had introduced without informing staff. Ok, fair enough, that can happen. For him, that chapter was closed. It wasn't until a day or so later that I read the reviews and tips for Gallaher's on Yelp and someone had actually mentioned the free beverage with check-ins weeks ago in a tip so it wasn't new at all! Taking your costumes for fools- not cool! The food was okay, not outstanding and not bad either. The praws came smothered in Mayo which it didn't say on the menu but I'm not allergic so it was ok for me. Then there was the other thing: the people on either side of us were drinking cocktails. The waiter brought one cocktail to the table on my left, came back a while later and said to the girl that he accidentally given her the wrong cocktail. This one was meant for another table. The girl was okay with that he took the cocktail, still full-looking away to serve it at the table to my right! The exact same glass! WTF?!? read more

A few things on this place........ Firstly on the map it's wrong. The food is good here; style of the place is really nice! Outdoor seating would benefit the place immensely my experience however was a shocker, the 2 waiters seemed disinterested with dealing with myself and my colleague. We asked if it was possible to close the door, we were told it will be closed in a minute (but not in a service friendly manner) I had to call the waiters attention a few times to get the door to be closed, and for other things. They just seemed disinterested and short or spacey. The ketchup is clearly not HEINZ, texture, colour, and flavour is of a cheaper brand... BLENDER's ketchup... I think Heinz should be informed that they are cheating the system and cutting corners on this. Really wasn't impressed with customer service, also their online menus are not relative in price to the actual menu! read more

This is a very cute spot - feels a bit New York. It wasn't freezing out, but a bit too chilly to be sitting right next to the open door where we were seated - I may have found the place cozier if it were a little warmer. Great light, great decor, decent food. Not the best Illy I've had. It was pretty burnt and scorched tasting - pretty disappointing. I think I'd look for somewhere else for breakfast next time I was in this neighborhood. And watch out - the door says they open at 10, but when we cruised in at 10:45 or so they had only just opened, so don't get your hopes up! read more

Came here for the second time recently, as BYOs go it's a nice one. Sometimes I find they are pretty basic with the decor which takes away from the whole "going out for dinner in a nice restaurant" experience but this one doesn't. Food is nice and well priced (prix fixe 2 courses for 25e 3 courses for 29e). Also a lot of the BYO's in town serve ethnic food which I love, but sometimes it's nice to get be able to order a burger and bring your own booze! I would say though that the a la carte menu is quite expensive in comparison to the prix fixe. So much so that I don't know if I'd be willing to go when the prix fixe isn't on offer. Overall the food is quite heavy too - great for when you're starving on a cold winter evening but I wouldn't choose it for a light bite. read more

I had a birthday dinner here during the middle of July. There was no party decoration as promised on the website when booking birthday groups. The waiter was fantastic and friendly. Two orders that were made never came out. Unfortunately there was confusion with the bill and the manager started being very rude and impatient. She eventually threatened to call the police even though we were clearly not going to leave until the bill was sorted. It completely ruined my experience and I would definitely recommend anyone I know never to come here. Absolutely disgraceful. read more

I was given a christmas present by my daughter of a voucher which I was intending to use before it expired on March 14th. Unfortunately due to breaking my right leg I decided to see if I could have the voucher extended due to my circumstances. I called the bistro to explore my options as doctors are due to review me on 26th of March. When I called I found the staff member very unsympathetic, in fact I asked to speak to his manager. I then overheard him and others laughing at my prediciment and this if found deeply humiliating. The manager was equally unhelpful. Please consider this post before making a decision to buy a voucher. I work as a counsellor and previously as a psychiatric nurse, given my painful disibility it is incomprehensible to me how I have been treated. Finally, before actually deciding to go to Gallahers, might I suggest that you read the very negative posts written by customers on the Gallaher Facebook page. I intend on behalf of other disabled (thankfully temporarily) people to take issue with the bistro directly as they exhibited no goodwill whatsoever apart from telling me they might extend the voucher by one week but that the afternoon tea offer is about to expire. formerly the mona lisa gallaghers have arrived on this nearly landmark premises so in I popped to sample gallaghers delights Result -- meeehhh. five out of ten !!!!! starters nice. service very slow (waited an 45 minutes for the pre theatre menu between starters and main). food only above average got the pre-theatre menu for two pate and soup were both fine. not out of this world but the pate was good and tasty. soup fresh clean and good sized - ordered the bacon and cabbage. whilst the cabbage was delicious and potatoes well done and tasty the bacon was vacuum packed cooked (could see into the kitchen) and very salty. not to mention VERY SMALL portions. Only Oliver Twist would not have been still hungry after this "feast" my girlfriend had the Guinness pie. whilst more substantial then my Oliver Twist sized bowl of bacon and cabbage it was no better than one might expect in any of the numerous pubs around town !!!! overall i'am not being a mona lisa here but poor service bog standard food - in this day and age this place is one in a long line of bog standard Dublin eateries ....Average I wouldn't recommend it personally Score 5/10 read more

5 stars is probably a bit crazy to be giving on what was a voucher for breakfast deal. But what a deal and what a breakfast (I forgot to take a photo in my haste to eat the flipping thing haha) Arrived with the brother as a treat, I left out the voucher part ;). Did not have a printout of the voucher (this has been a problem I've encountered before with other establishments not happy without a physical copy) but our waiter was happy to take the voucher number and move on. The voucher was for two breakfasts. This was to the value of €12.50, the large breakfast. Or we could break it down to whatever way we wanted to to value of €12.50. This was mucho impressive. I liked the flexibility and I loved the price. I'm sure I got that voucher for a tenner!!! The brother went for the larger option, I went for the petit (quite big of it's own accord) and a lovely latte. As I said, 5 star is maybe too generous but I will amend if necessary on my guaranteed return here :) read more

Just enjoyed a fine meal at this attractive restaurant. The space is really handsome with a lovely mix of old and new. The food is good, not spectacular, but nicely done. My partner had the lamb shank and I had beef stew. Soup (sweet potato/lemon grass) was good, although lemon grass taste nonexistent. The best part for me was the sticky toffee pudding! Yum. Served warm with vanilla ice cream and syrup-rich and dark. The service was excellent. Would recommend this place for not-fancy but still elegant and tasty dining. read more

They brought us the wrong menus, it was complicated to exchange them, the table was not fully cleared from the last people even though the place was more than half empty and no one seemed rushed, everything was very slow (not to cook the food - but to get menus, and give our order, and get the check, and have any requests answered, etc.) and servers seemed really kind of out of it, vague and indifferent. This place us beautiful on the outside but really disappointing food and service. This is the second time I ate here out of location convenience and it will be the last. My mother found a piece of plastic in her salad, and my sisters chicken tasted actually rotten. My salad had no dressing and wilted lettuce. Whoever was waiting on us would start walking away before we were finished asking him for something, even though we were the only table in the entire restaurant. I attended this restaurant after I purchased a grabone voucher €22 for two mains and 2 glasses of wine. Me and my boyfriend decided to head here and try it out! The staff were lovely and friendly, the evening menu is quite extensive which I loved (also I was starving!) my boyfriend got the chicken pasta and I got the roast chicken with seasonal vegetables! When the food arrived I was a little disappointed, the portions were tiny!!!! My chicken felt like it was missing half the ingredients, my boyfriends food was slightly bigger but not to the point were you would have that lovely 'iv just had a meal' feeling we all love!
