Retro tour continues to not miss as this place borderline may have the spot for best lineup and close to best service in the Seattle area. Loved talking to the guy there about our love of dragon ball and his help getting prices and recs were super helpful. Everything is well payed out with ample selections of games of any platform especially the 5th and prior. Prices are more than adequate and I'd come back alone to talk with the guy which is huge to me. Service takes this to the top with a tie for the area and I'm definitely stopping here next time I'm in town. Hope you completed og dragon ball as much as you did GT brah! read more

Game Guru is a hidden gem for collectors and gamers alike. They've got a pretty solid selection--some prices are a bit high, some are a little low, so it's one of those places where you can definitely score some deals if you take your time to dig. I picked up a bunch of steelbooks and collector's edition items for great prices, and I even found some Dark Souls mystery boxes--which I legit didn't expect to ever see out in the wild. That alone made my day. The (presumed) owner was super friendly and just a cool guy all around. You can tell he cares about the shop and the people coming through. Only real downsides: the area around the store is definitely sketchy, and a chunk of the inventory looked sun-faded or like it had been sitting for a while. Not sure if it was part of a big collection that recently came in or just stuff that's been there too long. Either way, still worth a visit. Stopped here after seeing that Game Gurus is one of the best video game shops around. Pink Gorilla was also on the list. The shop is definitely a gamers paradise. Old school vibe. Huge selection of games and related items like collectibles, etc. Staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Pricing is fair. Was not able to find a copy of the game I was looking for but still glad I stopped here. Located in a plaza on a busy intersection. Across BurgerMaster so could grab a bite and walk on over to find some treasures. read more

My man and I are both gamers and collectors. So, when my fiance had a bad day, I wanted to take him out to Game Gurus for a shopping trip to cheer him up. This was our first time out here, so I had no idea what to expect. It's located in a small strip mall and is easy to miss if you're not keeping a good eye out. When I walked in I was pleasantly surprised to see how nicely the games were displayed, especially the carts that don't typically come with a box. Here they make a box and store any game over $15 behind the counter with the box only on display. It made browsing a lot easier. However, it was hard to tell where you were and weren't allowed to walk. I had to ask about where the PS1 games were. Granted, there was a small sign indicating this fact, but very, very easy to miss. The selection of games for older systems was quite nice, especially those that were rarer and CIB. I also liked that you could touch the original boxes of those games. The retro consoles and handhelds were pretty nice as well. I managed to grab an Atari Lynx for my handheld collection! There were also a lot of modded consoles available that I don't know much about. However, I did see a modded Nintendo GameCube that I wanted BAD. PS1 selection wasn't that impressive--but it's all about what they get in, right? Service was okay. The guy there seemed a little aloof and tired. And it seemed a little trickier than it should have been to find the games associated with the boxes. However, I'm chalking it up to being almost closing time by the time we checked out. Some things I didn't love were that some Nintendo 64 controllers they have for sale have aftermarket cords. This isn't reflected on the packaging and aren't cheap at $45ish each. Also, while the organization of this place made for a great shopping experience, the checkout process was slow, and seemingly painstaking for the employee. There were two games he couldn't even find even though the boxes were out on the sales floor. Overall, I'd come back to shop but not super often because it's a little out of the way for us. read more

Super awesome find! This was completely random for me and I'm happy that I find it. They have ALL THE GAMES. Huge selections from all the major systems, including all the old school ones you grew up with. Prices are hit and miss. Definitely a little higher in general than other places, but typically not outrageously so. They have some delightfully rare games in here that I was super excited to see! They have a good selection of games for older systems, but none of the really good ones, like the top 25 games for the PS1 and PS2 you will not find here, buy you can have them call you if one comes in. Really, really bad buy-back prices, about three to eight cents on the dollar. Some older game systems are in stock, and they have decent hours. Not before 11:00 a.m. though, and up until 9:00 during the week, and 7:00 on Sunday. read more

Very strange and very shady store. I found Game Gurus on Yelp, the same site that helped me discover Another Castle. But unlike Game Gurus, Another Castle is actually GOOD. Game Gurus is like a nerd's dream for a video game store turned into a horrifying, endless nightmare. Walking into this store for me was about as painful as it would be for George Orwell to set foot into modern day North Korea. Probably the most obvious thing about the store when you first step in is that it absolutely stinks of cigarette smoke. That reminds me of how Kim Jong-un is a heavy smoker. It's like they let people light up in here, or they even do it themselves. Anyway, that to me was the first red flag signaling that I shouldn't stay here any longer than I needed to. If the shock of the useless game selection here wasn't going to kill me first, then just breathing the air would. The second thing that stood out to me was how the balding clerk seemed to be clueless about his own merchandise. He tautologously explained to me that the DS memory expansion pak expands the memory of the Nintendo DS, but when I asked him whether that meant I could store another save file in a Pokemon game, he had no idea. Thanks a lot for the help, Steven M. [the rest of his last name withheld] Next, this store actually has a lot of games in such a limited space. But the problem is that they very much take a quantity-over-quality approach. It may be deceptive at first glance; I mean, they do have a stunning number of video games for sale. Now take a closer look and you'll see that at least 95% of them are shovelware/licensed crap. Don't be fooled. Their selection of games SUCKS and they have very few games of value. This last point is the most important: they also sell counterfeited, bootleg, ILLEGAL video games in addition to their terrible selection. And they're blatantly obvious about it, too; they don't even try to hide it. I saw a real copy of Wario Land 4 right next to a fake one. I saw a real copy of Contra Advance right next to a fake one. There are more for which I have furnished pictoral evidence; I could not make this stuff up. The difference is extremely obvious, yet they flaunt it shamelessly. They just assume you'll be too preoccupied with the massive selection to notice or care. Well, I picked out all the games that I saw that I cared to buy. That's two of them out of hundreds. They did have two used copies of Final Fantasy VI Advance, but I could tell that they were both fake. You can't trust anything from this store anymore, but I could at least discern that their copies of Wario Ware, Inc. ($13.95) as well as Mega Man Zero ($14.95) were authentic. So the damage came to $34.94 after tax according to good ol' Steven. I paid for this with two twenty-dollar bills, and I received $5.06 in change. That would be good if the receipt didn't have Mega Man Zero somehow becoming $17.95 before tax. Good thing I noticed this because I was starting to wonder whether there was any way this store could scam me despite the fact that I had actually found genuine copies of two decent GBA games. It turns out that there was. When I called Steven out on this three-dollar error, he said he wondered how that had happened and quickly pulled out three dollar bills from the cash register to hand to me. And since I wanted to test this guy even further, I accepted his three, gave back the five he had handed me earlier, and walked out the store. I waited a while to see whether he would notice and chase after me to return the money. Spoiler alert: he didn't. So after bamboozling me out of three dollars, he then knowingly proceeded to hornswoggle two more dollars out of me. Sure, five dollars gets stolen, so what's the big deal? Well, there's a French proverb that goes: "he that will steal an egg will steal an ox." It doesn't sound as cool in English because it actually rhymes in French! "Qui vole un oeuf vole un boeuf." I got fed up with waiting and just went back in to ask for my five dollars back. The moral of the story is that you can never trust what you buy at Game Gurus. These guys will pass off cheap homebrewed cartridges and expect you to treat them like they're the real deal. I know that there's no remorse in business, but this one has no integrity, either. And even if you do find a game here that's decent and bona fide, good luck with not falling victim to their swindling schemes once or twice along the way. read more

This place is hella-sweet. They sell games and systems that you can't find anymore; AND you don't have to put up with the fucking bullshit of shipping and having to wait for delivery. I wanted to get blackout drunk and play old school PS2 games with my buddy, did I have to wait to download? It's like a trip down memory lane. Every old school console you can think of is there. Sega, Super Nintendo, original Nintendo, PS 1 2, 3, the Xbox games not to mention they got all the old school Resident Evil games. The only downside is if you're looking for newer releases they don't usually get them in until a few months after it's been out a while and they have a strange policy about refunds and store credit. I would not recommend selling games there though because they will give you less than it's worth. As far as the repair services...about 50/50. I've spent 5 bucks before to try and get a game disc fixed it shouldn't have been beyond repair but I had to give another 5 when it didn't work. I only really go there to buy used games that are several years old that I never played before. read more

Just responding to the comment left on my revew by the owner of Game Gurus: If I had been given the proper information on the phone by your counter employee then I never would have come in, and would have simply moved on to another shop, no harm, no foul. I eventually found out that your repair guy was too booked to take the job at that time, that's not the problem, the problem was that I made an unnecessary trip to your shop to find that out as a result of bad information from your staff. Even the long wait at the counter would have been acceptable had the phone info had been accurate and I could have left my X-box for service in the time-frame I was quoted on the phone. You may have a competent repair staff, but I'll never know that now since I've decided not to patronize your shop as a result of my experience there. Not too complicated...you lost my trust and I went to someone else who I will maintain loyalty with. This is how business works: Good service = brand loyalty. I'm in retro game heaven! They have tons of classic systems and games as well as collectibles and even several consoles set up to play. I was able to buy a PSOne with an official Sony LCD screen attachment and external battery; I had been searching far and wide with no luck,but these guys had two PSOnes in stock! I could spend a long time browsing here and reminiscing about my gaming days of old. Remember the Game Boy micro? Yeah, they have those. How about a Super Famicom system? Sure, they have one in great condition. Have a look through their bins of Nintendo games and check out their section of Dreamcast games; you'd be surprised at just how many gems of gaming goodness can be found here. The attendant who helped me out was a real nice guy and really knew his stuff; it was easy to tell that he is is passionate about gaming and and wants the store to take pride in providing quality products. The prices vary depending on the condition and rarity of some items, but nothing that I saw was unreasonably high, especially considering the great selection. I will definitely be making my way back here to pick up some PS1 games for my new "old" system. If you are like me and are looking to experience a classic era of gaming, then this is the perfect place to go. read more

The place is pretty cool. The staff is really nice, and more importantly not noobs. They have a good group of retro hits, modern games, board games, and they are trying to get into MTG. There prices are not great, but they have a good selection and are the only local shop i prefer to buy from. UPDATE: I have been getting into collecting more, and I gotta say I noticed they are even better then I said before. changing my review to 5 stars. Been here several times and the staff and selection is as good as they come however don't plan to spend any time looking around here on a hot day! The poor employees suffering in this hot box say the AC is broken and that the boss is going to fix it but I've been back several times in the past few months and its only getting worse as summer roles on. Whoever is in charge of getting it fixed should really step up their game because everything about this little store is great but there is no way I'll spend any serious time perusing their selection when its more comfortable to be outside their store than in! read more

I use this place for all of my retro needs. I moved from the north end to west seattle and still will drive up here instead of using a more local gamery. I have bought many video games for different platforms as well as a couple of systems from them. Every game and system I have bought has worked perfectly, as have the accessories such as microphones. No worries there though because they will take care of you if there is a problem with something you buy. They have an amazing amount of stock for any system you can think of. Prices are very reasonable. Their employees are knowledgable about the product and very helpful. Recently I was in there and they did not have the 32 gig vita memory card I was looking for. The guy working actually called around to all of their competitors to find one for me. (There were none at any used game store anywhere, I had to go to the Sony store to get it.) Recently they added board games to their stock, and after doing some comparison shopping it seems like they have most popular games for a cheaper price than any of the area competitors. I finally picked up a couple of games I have been thinking about because I had never seen them go for that low of a price. read more

It was packed with tons of games, controllers, and other accessories for all the big name, old consoles. All the prices here are very reasonable relative to other gaming stores and even Amazon. Feather was a very helpful girl to me when I came here. She sure found many games that I had never heard of or been recommended to from any other game store. I am always looking fro games that are hard to find since they are less popular such as arcade style shooting games that are multiplayer. They have stuff I couldn't find accessory wise as well. Only set back is that they offer in store credit as oppose to money back. They do however offer the 7 day trial. read more

I was promised a RROD fix with a lifetime warranty! After the 3rd time of bringing in my Xbox bc of this RROD issue (figured with a lifetime warranty they would have fixed it correctly the first time.... but I digress) I was informed that this time, it was no longer a reflow issue and they would not honor their RROD warranty. They lady working the counter tried to talk to me about how I got a reflow warranty and this other part breaking is like having an engine warranty and having my transmission blow.... It fell on deaf ears however, bc when I brought it in for a RROD fix a couple years ago, I was told it was a RROD fix with a lifetime warranty. Implying that whenever I got a RROD it would be fixed. It wasn't a reflow warranty for a RROD fix. They need to learn about what they say and the implications their words imply as it was a very misleading experience, and now I'm left with an Xbox 360 that doesn't work and a sour taste in my mouth bc it's dead from a RROD, which I was told was going to be fixed with a lifetime warranty. read more

Me and my freind called because my freind wanted to sell sky landers, when my freind asked how much they would take for them the guy was a complete jerk and yelled "well skylanders are worth nothing so I would give you a quarter for one!!!!!" Back in 2014 brought my ps3 to game Guru for repair 3 days later their response : i'm Sorry we can't fix your ps3 . I'm like ??? whud? you can't replace blu-ray drive and wifi controller circuit ? bought blu-ray drive, wifi controller circuit from Amazon fix it myself . Game Guru technician are Lazy or Don't know what they doing. I have 8th grade Education fixed my ps3 alone , knew nothing about electronic before that day . I believe if man create machines any man should be able to fix it with determination . By the way Game Guru sucks. I would not recommend anyone fix their ps3 at game Guru Best thing to do find out the problem is Fix it yourself . if i can do it with 8th grade education anyone can . But Game Gurus did a positive, comprehensive job educating and making a deal for me (over the phone) in buying a backup console for the tykes (I'm proudly ignorant about video gaming). When I showed up, the custom unit was already built and packed up. Even threw in some freebie unpackaged used games. Console came with a very good warranty as well. No reason to go to Game Stop with Game Gurus in town. read more

I love this store. As a gamer geek who literally played Pong on original consoles in the '70s and move onto Atari in the early 80's I have seen the evolution of video games. Stepping into a GG is nostalgic for me. I browse over NES, Sony and Gameboy cartridges and remember playing those games when they were new. On top of that GG has all the new games plus tons of used (so I can go back and play those great title I missed 1st time around). On top of that the staff is always cheerful and knowledgeable. If you spend your hours slaying dragons, sniping your buddies, building worlds or destroying them than Game Gurus is the place you should be starting at. read more

When we inherited a Wii, a friend recommended Game Gurus and we've been back a few times since then. We found several games that appealed to us, including Lego Batman 2 and Monster High. Among other things, I appreciate that they let us exchange a game that worked fine, but just wasn't what my daughter hoped for. Game Gurus has something for everyone-- the guys in there playing a card game that I could not fathom seemed happy. My daughter doesn't have to wait for Amazon.com to ship her order, so she is very happy. And I stumbled across Crabs Adjust Humidity, so now I'm happy too. read more
