Loaner and Demo games available for in-store play.
    Paul S.

Here's to a local chain (additional locations are Rancho Cucamonga and Pasadena) that's dedicated to the pastime of board gaming, cards, such as Magic the Gathering, and related hobbies of collecting and painting miniatures. Furthermore, they provide ample space for people to set up and play during their hours of operation, which is great for games that exceed the three-hour time frame. Only a few basic rules, no outside food, no drinking alcoholic beverages, and no smoking (that means vape pens too). Pretty straightforward, no? It was my first time visiting this store, it was a tad tricky because it's located deep in the business center precisely in the Southwest portion where Foothill (Route 66) meets Mountain Avenue. Ample parking was available, and the drove of available tables inside was also pleasing. I arrived before my buddy did so I claimed a spot and browsed the surprisingly vast collection of games for Demo and Loaning, provided you only play in-house. Some used games occupied a number of shelves and also pre-painted miniatures for sale. Nothing spectacular there, however. In the way back are tables dedicated to historically dramatic games, especially Warhammer by GW. In fact, this miniatures game drives the painting hobby to great heights of artistic style. As such, a substantial amount of support products crowd the front retail space. Lots of paints by Citadel Colour, brushes, hobby knives, basing materials for your finished models, the works! Anyhow, we played a boardgame we imported, Conan by Monolith. Three scenarios took about 6-hours altogether in between chatting, pit stops in their wonderfully clean bathrooms, and buying drinks and snacks. This is how you support such an establishment. Curious employees and other gamers stopped by to watch or ask questions. Overall, the atmosphere is friendly and vibrant. It was fairly busy the entire time we were there but that made it more fun. People of all ages although I might have been the minority age-wise, it was a good time. Whether you want to purchase a game or need card sleeves or dice, this is a well-stocked shop.

I recently found a box of Legend of the Five Rings cards from twenty plus years ago. Since my kids are too young to play, would you guys be able to make a trade for a game they would play?

Unfortunately that game is no longer played and we would not buy it.

Does your company purchase magic gathering cards i have about 300 cards?

Yes, you can bring them in for an appraisal.

On the other hand, several "European-style" games such as Catan, Carcassonne, Dominion, San Juan, Puerto Rico, etc.

We chatted with Kyle the owner who has intimate knowledge of 80% of the games in the store, having played them at least once. My husband bought the newest version of Horrified which is a series of cooperative games in which you are vanquishing monsters and saving villagers, this one is Dungeons and Dragons themed. Meanwhile, I talked with Andrew, a game enthusiast who had just purchased a huge game box with cards and dragon figures and was learning how to play it. Tuesdays are game nights there for people looking to play board games with a group. There are several tables for that purpose, and so many games for single players, duos, and larger groups. Super fun store!

Sure, it was pretty far away (Glendale) from Riverside, but I always enjoyed the trek and good times. Fortunately, Kyle, opened the Game Nights Cafe about 1.5 years ago as of this writing (01/01/2025), and the two-level shop and gamespace provides games to purchase, an impressive library of games to play in-house, and necessary hobby materials, such as Citadel paint, brushes, tools, and even a nifty airbrush set for about $70. After two visits here I'm Reviewing the shop, setting, atmosphere, and special New Year's Eve event. First, my long-time gaming buddy happened upon the store while antique shopping across the street. While Gameology in Upland has been our go-to, the initial appeal was the later hours of operation, especially on Sundays, the day we typically line up. There's a game cover fee, a reasonable $6 per player and good for the entire day. Otherwise, as Kyle mentioned to me, people would stay all day and not even purchase anything. Purchases, however, do offset the cover charge. The basement is where the bright track lights make the full-lenghth space inviting. Many hundreds of games line one wall. All are available for anyone wanting to play. And a significant number of tables and comfortable chairs are another draw. There's also a sizeable space upstairs adjacent to the retail area for games. Kyle invited us to come back for New Year's Eve for food, beverages, and a generous playtime that surpassed 2am. For $40 I was down, especially when I saw how much food was provided. A fullscale Middle Eastern feast, as well as charcuterie, sides, and desserts. Wow! The crowd was also fun and my group quickly befriended another and we played lots of fun games that could support 6 players, including Heat, Acquire, and Inca Gold. All three were in the extensive library previously referenced. In short, they host many events for Magic the Gathering (MTG), Dungeons and Dragons, open play nights, and hopefully more NYE celebrations. Finally, they also have a lot of games and things marked down for quick sales, so consider browsing. Not far away is the Glass House, and somewhere close by is Zoink Records.

They also have a lot of toys already opened on display so your kids can actually play with them before buying and make sure they like it. I was also told you can ask to open anything to see it which is so cool. The return policy is good too, we were gifted items that we opened but soon realized they were too young for my kid, but we had no issues exchanging items. The downsides to me were the location. We went around 5:30pm, and there was some stuff happening in the shared parking lot and some ..smells wafting into our car lol which didn't bother me but that might bother some folks especially with little ones. The main reason I probably won't go back is the prices. I'm sure the products are quality products and maybe that's why they're a little pricier than normal, but for my family's budget it just wasn't a place we would return. Seems really cool for teachers and homeschoolers, they had things to buy in bulk, I forgot to ask if they accept charter funds here but maybe they do.
