The employees here need a huge overhaul. My family came in looking for something specific, unfortunately this particular store doesn't sell the same thing as the one in Fairfield. When I asked the first female employee I came across she was so quick to say, "I don't even know what that is." No "I'm sorry we don't carry that" or any type of customer service. Then when we were ready to check out the line was three customers deep and only one employee was working the register. The other female (?) employee was on the phone for about 10-15 minutes on a personal call. The man in front of me bought a pre-owned PS5 and he was asking about if he really needed to buy PS Plus. Again, female employee #1 was quick to say, "I don't know. I don't play PlayStation I play X-Box." Okay??? This is a video game store, she should have a working knowledge of various consoles right? Or is that expecting too much?? When it was our turn to check out my son just so happened to want a PS5 controller. At first he wanted black, but she said they didn't have that color. Why even have out as an option to buy then?? It'd be so easy to take out the cardboard sign so customers know it isn't available at this time. Again, I'm expecting too much I guess. She then tried to sell us a warranty on the controller for $15/year. I declined and she rudely said, "Okay, see you in 6 months then. I've had to replace my PS5 controllers 3 times." What? So she is either lying to me or she was lying to the guy in front me. Towards the end of our transaction a male employee with shoulder-length hair interrupted us to greet the other two female employees at the register. Absolutely no respect or professionalism. We left as quickly as we could, but my daughter unfortunately left her water bottle on the counter. We came back and saw there was a long line. Female employee #1 was the only one helping customers, female employee #2 was doing her own thing, and the male employee was sitting at the register eating. I approached him and asked him for the water bottle we left which we could clearly see on their back counter. He looked at me like I was the rude one for interrupting his snack break. He said nothing to me, grabbed the water bottle by the mouth piece, and handed it to me. I had the misfortune to see his hands up close and it looked like he spent the morning gardening without gloves. Gross!!! Experiences like this make me want to depend on online shopping more and more. Employees are no longer expected to have customer service skills, professionalism, or basic hygiene. read more

Unacceptable. Read reviews. For my two visits, the female manager was WAY too pushy for the membership to a point it's annoying. My partner and I agree it stops us from wanting to come here. If you think you've experienced lazy , unprofessional , bad customer service , wait till you hit up the gamestop in concord at the sunvalley mall. I've walked into this store several times , there's always been huge lines and you know i get it , places are busy , there's just one person at the cash register but why are there other employees talking to that employee as they're ringing up customers whilst eating frozen yogurt on the sales floor in front of customers ? There is also this one worker , this trans worker , who is rude asf , yesterday for whatever reason , they decided it was okay to have a conversation with some friends for 5+ minutes at the cash wrap as there was a line and the person next was struggling to carry the cold red bulls that they offer. There's a black guy with an afro who was eating frozen yogurt at the cash wrap , in front of a line of customers without offering any sort of assistance and sounding so absolutely bothered whenever customers would ask questions about product. The transgender individual is just rude and could use some better customer service + also learn to not talk to their friends while there is customers waiting to be rung up and there's another dude in there with short black curly hair , light skin , who's constantly rude as well and needs to learn better customer service. Rosa who claims to be a manager is extremely rude and escalates situations versus trying to actually help customers. She is loud, aggressive, and has a lot of attitude. She was also rude to her employees infront of customers. She refused to honor a promo that is being offered on trade ins stating I needed to call customer service and tell them their marketing isn't clear. The promo offered trade in of a controller for the value of a new one. I was offered 15.00 and when I questioned the value I asked to see a new 15.00 controller which they couldn't produce as new controllers are not 15.00. Avoid this store and wasting time with their bait and switch tactics. Rosa should not be a manager let alone an employee if they can't talk to customers or their own employee in a respectful manner. read more

The employees here could use some more training on their customer service. Not very solution-oriented and just downright awkward to ask them questions. With more games being digital and there being less incentive to visit physical stores like Gamestop, customer service should be their biggest priority. read more

Visited the store today today with my kids. They beelined right to the switch games while I looked into the selection of older games. I found a Gameboy SP console in the locked case. I approached the cashier and asked it was one of the backlit ones. She said she didn't know and refused to open the case to check or allow me to check. I had every intention on purchasing it, but she treated me like a criminal because I wanted to see an item before purchase. This isn't how you treat customers. read more

This Game Stop is in Sun Valley Mall. They have limited inventory, but the prices are reasonable. The shelf for trading cards was empty. However, the young lady working there was friendly and helpful so it was a pleasant shopping experience. read more

Tricked (deceiving sales tactics and blames it on the kid not knowing) my kid into purchasing there $4.99 1-warranty for her little nightmare 3 game and won't even refund the service! They said the price $49.99 ($39.99 was the real price) was because of the bag fee but failed to say the warranty. I guess they really need to get their bonus at my price of tricking my child. They said we knew when we checked out. Lairs!!!! They said their system locked them out to process a refund due to the debit card! Karma is a bish, wait and see.... There is a reason your business is failing and it's not just the rise of digital purchases. People just don't want to be bothered by your bulk-spit. Here is an example of my interaction today while purchasing a new game: ("GS" is the extremely pushy GameStop employee, and "M" is me) Gs: "I have that game for you right here. Let's get your phone number" M: "#" Gs: "Looks like your premium account has expired. Let's get you hooked up today for just 15 dollars" ($15 is added on the POS screen before I can even respond) M: "no thanks" Gs "hear me out, blah blah" M: "no thanks" Gs: "blah blah blah" M: "no I don't want it" Gs: "but blah blah blah (points to chart)." M: "again no" Gs: "why don't you want the membership?" I've had some bad retail experiences before, but what happened at this GameStop takes the cake. Every time I come in, the same guy aggressively pushes the Pro Membership on me, to the point where it feels less like shopping and more like being cornered by a salesman. Today I tried to cut it off before it started--I politely said I wasn't interested. Instead of respecting that, the guy got visibly upset and kept pushing anyway, like "no" wasn't an option. When I refused to answer his sales questions, he actually got angry and kicked me out of the store. Imagine being told to leave simply because you don't want a membership. This kind of behavior is completely unprofessional and hostile. Customers shouldn't be treated like they're stupid or unwelcome just for declining a loyalty program. GameStop needs to seriously rethink how it trains its staff and how much pressure it puts on them to sell memberships, because right now it's creating a toxic experience that drives people away. read more

The manager is very pushy on memberships. If you don't get it he's rude and tries to argue with you. Never supporting this place again with a guy like that running the shop. Only reason the still afloat is because you're located in a shopping mall with a lot of foot traffic. Get a job as a realtor not for a damn game store. Bad shopping experience. read more

This was the worst in-store experience I have ever had in my life. Upon attempting to check out two games with my little brother, the cashier said "We're going to sign you up for Pro," without saying anything else. When they asked me to confirm the purchase, there was a 15 dollar charge for Pro, and I asked him to take it off, saying I wasn't interesting. Then, they and other worker started rambling about how good of a deal it is, interrupting me whenever I said no. After finally taking off the charge, they then did the same thing for the insurance, which took my multiple attempts to convince them I didn't want. This entire time, the second worker (had short curly black hair) kept asking nagging questions trying to convince me to buy the extras, repeating "Do you guys not even buy games? Where do you buy your games," over and over again to which I gave short answers like "Sometimes" or "Wherever" because all I wanted to do was buy my games and get out of what was becoming an increasingly aggressive and hostile interaction from the workers. After ignoring the unending questions and looking only at the cashier and not at the second employee harassing me, he said "Why are you being so rude? We're people too, you have to treat us with dignity" to which i responded "I was trying to be respectful, you are being aggressive and ignoring me saying no" he then responding by rudely telling me I was not welcome in the store and after I leave I should not ever return, which is an interesting response to someone not wanting to buy your premium membership. I will never bring any business here ever again, and will encourage others to do the same, the employee with short curly hair should never be allowed to work in any position where they are able to talk to customers, they will drive away any and all business. read more

This store is great. It has a white variety of games for all the main devices. The staff is very well-versed in all games and they offer digital games as well as hard box games as well. They sell the consuls and usually have things that other stores don't have another malls. They also offer all sorts of accessories that are necessary. Timothy is super helpful and friendly as well. Tell you there will be some difference in price when you sell it but don't tell you it's $100 less than the value they told you. I want to give zero stars. I don't know her name. The Asian tall lady wears a cap with a hoodie so rude to her attitude that works in the store. No customer service. She was telling people in the store she needed to go to her lunch and then she said no rush and take your time to shop a minute later she said she had to go to lunch now you have to go. I don't understand why she was telling me not to rush and then a minute later she rushed me out to the store with attitude. When I was walking out the store she had another co-worker back to the shop. The Asian lady told her co-worker, that she doesn't need her stupid sign-out anymore That is so unprofessional. This is my updated review of this Gamestop. This is currently my favorite Gamestop since all the staff here are always helpful, professional and friendly. I came here wanting a specific game and Michelle really helped me out. She is awesome and is very knowledgeable of upcoming games . Her personal knowledge on the upcoming releases also convinced me to make 2 additional pre-orders for some upcoming games. This is my go to place if I want to get that special version of the game (I purchased the collector's version of god of war Ragnarok here) or an accessory. The people here always do their best to help me find what I'm looking for. While I have been to other GameStops in the area, I find this one to be the best because of its store hours and its staff. I'm currently battling with Gamestop (Hayward location) over an issue with a console that I purchased from them, and I had planned on cutting all ties with them, however, in the midst of this battle, I had a very positive encounter with the sun valley mall location. The manager Tim there went out of his way and even stayed late in order to help me buy the game that I wanted. He didn't have to do it, but he did it and you don't get that sort of treatment really any where these days. I used to work for Gamestop for a solid 3 yrs and I know how sometimes putting on a smile can be hard when its slow or busy. Either way, these days I visit a GameStop once or twice a year but it's nice to see they continue to hire hardworking gentle and kind people. I'm not sure why this location has such a low rating. It's clean, the staff is nice and they seemingly have everything in order from what I can see. Mall locations are hard because you get a lot of the casual lookers and people coming to take their aggression out from an experience they had at another store. NOW I USUALLY DONT DO THIS Literally went the other day to exchange my broken controller for a new 1 because i have insurance on it and this guy Matt had no idea what he was doing.... It was like watching a small dog lost.... Worst part is... he was by himself and had to call a few people to ask how to make the exchange ....literally 20 mins later bro was like trying to explain about some glitch in the system and just bullsh1tting me because he didnt know how to properly do an exchange... then after all that he said sorry idk what im doing and said come tomorrow when there is someone else here.... I'd recommend going to a different location if you are able to. It's now 10:52am on a Friday. Allegedly this store should be open at 10am, like the rest of the mall. It most definitely is still closed. I came to this location specifically to buy a birthday present for my niece, but I will be taking my business elsewhere since the employees don't have the sense to open the store on time. The people who work there are retarded. I went in there looking to buy FEAR the day it came out. When I asked the guy behind the counter if they had it, he replied "No man, we sold out. You aren't going to find that game anywhere....you want to reserve Superman Returns?!" "No thanks." I told him as I left. I walked right next door to Target and they had at least 25 copies of FEAR. Another time I went there to buy God of War 2 and the same thing happened. They didn't have it, but he sounded really excited when he asked me if I wanted to reserve some other weak game. Sometimes a man just needs a store that puts him in the mood to relax and, sadly, for me this is gamestop. Stepping in that door just eases every muscle in my bod. It's weird, I know. I love to just dig into a game on the ds display unit for a few minutes. Tons of fun and the folks who work here are always great about answering my questions!!! I was redirected to this location by another store that was nearby. I was looking for a videogame that came out a couple of days ago, and they told me that they had a copy left in this location, i also checked online and gave me the same information. I walked in and asked the guy at the counter and he said that they only had a limited quantity for preorder and didn't even make an effort to see about the extra copy they had left in stock and that appeared as available even online. I didn't wanna argue so just walked out and decided to order it from Amazon. Such a waste of time and disappointment, since I also have a membership with Gamestop. I grit my teeth each time I go into this shop, I always hope things will improve, but the experience gets worse each time- They treat me like there doing me some kind of favor answering a question or looking for a request. Their customer service is terrible. They never have the game I want and they always ask me to reserve some horrible title about to bomb. Price is not the concern its the experience... I like this Game Stop location, but it's always packed elbow to elbow, and the selection is very sparse. If you come here for new games, they usually have what you need, but I always have the hardest time finding copies of my favorite titles in used condition. The staff is nice here, they are very knowledgeable about everything that comes in and out of the store, and they even troubleshoot (unofficially) some games and devices. My son came here and started discussing his problems within a specific game and they helped him move past his obstacles, this really helped me out also (Saved me $20 on a strategy guide). T____T After spending a few hours searching for a Pikachu 3DS XL (it was sold out almost EVERYWHERE), I managed to locate one at this store and was so happy to hear that they were willing to put it on hold for me, despite it being their last unit and in high demand TvT ! The thing is, I live in Berkeley and am car-less, so it was going to take a while for me to get there (and it was on a Sunday so bus schedules are lousy)... but their nice employee (McGee) was really accommodating and happy to wait for me. If you didnt pre order a game then they never have it although you can go next door to target or down to walmart and pick it up. 6:04 PM on 6/21/2014: I went into purchase a few games. After making my selections from a sale section marked $9.99 and under I brought the games to counter. They both rung up at $13.49 I asked the guy if they were $9.99, he said no as if it was a stupid question... I explained that they were in a section marked $9.99 he said they weren't $9.99. Point of the matter is, this place needs to hire some competent people who can either deal with problems or at least refer them to someone who can. read more

I am not surprised to see that this is the lowest rated Gamestop in the area. My son and i took a copy of Call of Duty we got with an xbox to trade in for something else. We were told that gamestop will not take any "unopened" games. I said.."so if I walk out of the store and open the package and return it you can take it?" to which she said "no sir because we have it on store video that it came in unopen?.. wtf? They are actually implying that we could have stolen this item? And if we open it and drive to another gamestop (which we did) they would not hesitate to take it. This is a ridiculous policy. Stood in this line on black Friday only for the guy to tell me they are already sold out and they were giving tickets to people who were waiting outside. So why am I standing in line he also wasn't able to answer any of my questions.
