Hubby and I came to pick up a Skylanders game, and looked around for a long time trying to figure out what to get since the franchise because so huge and has expanded to include so much. Turns out we had a hard time finding what we needed because they had it in the back. We didn't find out that they even had it in the back until a lot of going back and forth. I should have just went to wal mart. First off, I guess they must have been re-shelving, because you had a couple of girls with a few boxes on the floor and the front counter was full of game packages. Apparently that was more important than attending to people who wanted to buy anything. Secondly, after waiting at the desk for about 3 minutes, thought it certainly felt like more, and we finally got someone to help us, the girl didn't know anything about what we were looking for. This is pretty shocking since these games are so popular and she worked in a game store. Third, when she didn't know she tried to ask one other the other two girls who were there and the fat one responded back with such attitude, I was shocked. Wow, it's one thing if you don't like your coworker, but it's very unprofessional to behave like that. read more

What a helpful group of guys that work there! They helped me pick out the best xBox One games my husband would probably like based on what his favorite games are. Also, they match online retail prices like Amazon. My husband visited GameStop when Amazon had an xBox One promo for $200 with Battlefield 1 and they matched the competitor AND gave him $30 gift card for THEIR promo of purchasing a new xBox One. How's THAT for customer service! They have a good selection of games here, and plenty of Merchandise to choose from. The workers here love conversing with the customers, including at the register. Usually if there is a customer ahead of you you might be waiting a few extra minutes, so hopefully you aren't in any hurry. This is a great location, which is fortunate since it's the only one around for 27 miles. read more

The Oak Harbor Gamestop opened up a little over four years ago I believe. Before then I was forced to either rely on Walmart for my gaming needs or be at the mercy of shipping times for online options. Considering Walmart has lame duck customer service as is and doesn't offer discounted prices, promos, or pre-owned games I would go off island and shop at the G.S. in the Cascade Mall. I had a few horrid experiences at that location and wound up sticking to Amazon until about a few years or so back when G.S. opened up in O.H. My initial experiences were fantastic but over the years service has steadily gone down the tubes. The original staff were great and quite helpful, but then a few douchy "don't-give-a-crap" personalities later and I was pretty much fed up with G.S. I agree with the opinion that buyback games should have a separate line for service, but considering G.S. isn't the most efficient nor effective regarding business tactics let alone customer service-don't count on any miracles. My final opinion? Stick to Amazon or other online retailers unless you absolutely feel the need to have your game in hand the same day without paying for expedited shipping. Oh, and avoid whatever the hell cesspool that Games Etc crawled out of, it needs to go back to. That horrible excuse for a games retailer is in the Cascade Mall in Burlington and for another review. read more

I personally haven't had anything but good experiences in this store. I've had great game talks with all the employees I've met, I don't mind waiting a few extra minutes for conversations to end. I've preordered and reserved games many times and it's been smooth sailing each time. If you don't want personal service or game talk, go to Walmart. read more

As a casual gamer myself, I like this little place. The workers have a great knowledge of games, give their recommendations and even share their thoughts on up soon to be released titles. One of the ladies who worked there was featured in Gamestop commercial release for Mass Effect 3. Pretty awesome that their company would do that for their workers. This is your typical store layout, I haven't had any problems myself with trade-in's. The store usually has two, maybe three workers on hand so at times, I've waited longer than usually, mostly because there are people who are ignorant on games, or are shopping for their children, ask questions (which isn't an issue at all). Just be patient when you see a line or come back at a later time. Most of the time its not busy though. read more

New to the area, I've been to this Gamestop location four times total. Two have been wonderful visits; two have been awful. I understand, having worked for many years in customer service, that the job can be stressful. Guess what? This does not excuse rudeness in the slightest. Most recent incident: Sunday, February 1, 2015 Apparently the store closes at 6:00pm on Sundays. Good to know, I'll be sure to read the sign next time. Also, perhaps it isn't the greatest idea to stand right outside the front door of the store, door open, cigarette in hand, no greeting at all, simply the harsh bark of , "We're closed!" from bearded lacky number one, and a "Yeah. Its six 0'clock." from his noble sidekick. Thanks gents! As everything this store has to offer can just as easily be purchased online or elsewhere, you've simply aided my decision to take my business elsewhere. Jog on. Oak Harbor needs a good place to buy video games and this place is going downhill. When it first opened, I was serviced by a great lady who helped me pre-order, chatted quickly, and assured me of everything. Second visit was a dream. I pranced in, got my preorder and game. I left with game and poster in hand. The last few visits were horrible. I saw online they carried a limited stock of Super Smash Bros when it came out. I had missed the pre-order date and decided "why not check?". There was three people up front and a line of three people including myself. The total time in line was close to 40 minutes. One person was operating the cashier, one lady was doing something behind the counter that looked like organizing and the third I still have no idea what he was doing. Him and the cashier kept chatting it up with the customer on gaming systems and the game The Evil Within. I'm usually a pretty patient person and I work in customer service so I held onto my horses to wait. Apparently the entire transaction was a buyback and the cashier was handling it while male #2 kept chatting randomly, leaving the counter, circling and coming back. At no point did he ask me if I needed assistance. I was getting to the point of walking out when the lady behind the counter stood up and called me over. I quickly asked if she had the game cause online it said it was in limited stock. Her response was to not even look at me and chuckle to herself, saying she has one copy and that online has caused such a problem cause the one copy is on hold for someone. Normally, not a problem. I'd be disappointed and say, "Well that's my bad for missing it". But she didn't even acknowledge me or offer me a chance to place an order. She immediately turned her back on me. I thanked her awkwardly and left. 40+ minutes waiting. I chalked it up to a one time bad experience. Next time I visited, I dropped in quick to do a preorder for the pokemon Alpha Sapphire. There was 2 cashiers working the counter and one person in the very back. The lines were 3 people in each including myself. I had walked into a buyback that was already happening. At this point, I knew that line would be a bit and started to take note of who was doing buybacks and who had been waiting the longest. If you've been to Gamestop enough you start to realize buybacks take a WHILE that being said, I would expect a business to set up a line just for buybacks and warn people of the length of the wait. It was a good 30-40 minute wait again. I finally get up and I quickly ask to buy a used game. We go through the transaction. He even assisted me in a promo I wasn't aware of. I put down a $20 deposit and he tells me i just pay when I pick up the game on the 21st. I left with the receipt and a confirmed order for Alpha Sapphire. Fast forward a few days resulting in landing me in the ICU on Monday. At this point, I contacted the store around Thursday the day before release saying I had preordered a game and I was hospitalized, how long would they hold a game? The lady who answered said no worries and would be 48 hours. I thanked her and said I'd try to get in by Sunday at the latest to get the game or call her back. No point did she ask my name. That Friday I got great news and was finally discharged after a several long days in the hospital. I am left with limited mobility. I arrived home to find a text from Gamestop saying my game needed to be paid by 10pm Thursday which was never told to me and was never mentioned at the time of purchase. At this point, I called the local store and spoke to an associate. She confirmed my order for Alpha Sapphire, but not without giving me a small, "Well I have extras..." which hinted that my game was given away. Weird considering I was told 48 hours to collect my game. I never found out if that was the case or not. Anyway, I thank her and arrange for someone to pick it up since I am in no state to be standing or moving for long periods of time. When I was conscious again, I check the receipt and see Alpha Sapphire listed. No problem. I grab the game and quickly went to play only to realize my game was not what I ordered. As if to add insult to injury I was not given the promotional poster either. update: I returned the game. Unfortunately, when I recieved the game i had removed the plastic cover, having trusted my receipt that said Alpha Sapphire. The wait was maybe 10 minutes ]before I got up to the cashier who quickly saw my two receipts that said Alpha Sapphire and tried to correct the issue. When turning to who I assume in the manager, the manager responded "Well she opened it". I pointed out I had read my receipt and trusted them to give me the proper game. To which she turns her back on me and her employee and waves her hand saying, "Just exchange it". I got what I wanted. But not without pain (literally). If you want a game with a side of attitude and a long wait, then go to this Gamestop. Otherwise, stick to Amazon. read more

This was my first time in store with my husband and we bought a small game console. The wait was not long but what appeared to be a supervisor maybe the manager, I didn't look but he was the only male, he was very rude to his employees in front of customers like myself, saying things like, "remember that other person who got fired that could be you next" while I would like to think I have a great outgoing personality and sense of humor, the girl he was speaking to was not too happy which made me upset that he talked to her that way, I almost said something but she corrected him and said it wasn't funny. it was little things like that for the whole constant 45mins we were there. So if you see the guy with the dark hair being rude to his employees please say something or remind him that he isn't funny. read more

Worst GameStop we've ever been to. My nephew had to exchange a game he just bought because they sold him a damaged one. Then they gave him another one which was worse than the first one. I know he's only 12, but that's ridiculous he had to tell them he wasn't leaving with that damaged game! The game he ended up with still isn't the best and I wouldn't have accepted it, but he said it's the best they had. WOW!!! What happened to cleaning & repairing the discs?? Even better...my sister found a game marked pretty cheap & her "frugal frank self" headed to check out with my nephew. The cashier took the sticker off. He said it would never be marked so cheap and she thought she'd found a "blue light special". He was rude and told her he was not going to sell it at that STICKER PRICE. Needless to say she left the store. I've never had such service in GameStop & I hope after driving SO FAR TO GET TO ONE that we don't ever again. read more

I've been shopping at this local game stop here in oak harbor since they have been here, but never have I received this bad of customer service. I was just visiting to pick up a game ended choosing metal gear rising, but while waiting in line I thought the lady was busy with a customer after a couple mins realized she was just conversing with her about games...this went on for almost ten mins. I work at a retail store and I am very disappointed in how I was treated there today. No welcoming just ignored the entire time. I ended up going to Walmart to purchase my game.
