In fact only the left wall and a tiny section in front of the front counter are actual video games. Everything else is merchandise! San Bruno Game Stop is another San Bruno Establishment that needs to be avoided. On several occasions which they blamed on old equipment, that their terminal gives an error, yet fully charges account for sale, and corporate won't do a thing unless there is a recieot. I actually wear a body cam when retail shopping to catch garbage like this. Each time it's happened, had to rely on my recordings with my bank to show both error, and that we left with no goods, when corporate clearly says we did. If we actually got what was on sale, then it would be worth the trip. I highly recommend using your phone if you got to shop there and record your purchase, so you can save yourself a lot of heartache when that error happens and you end up with 400+ getting charged. Going to miss when this location closes fairly soon, since Tanforan will be remodeled into the bio-tech campus. It is the closest gamestop to home [since the bayhill one many years back closed sadly] Nowel the gamestop team leader employee was excellent. GameStop located in the Shops of Tanforan is a go to location for all your video game needs. This location is usually busier than other locations being that it is located in the mall. So if crowds aren't your thing, I would suggest finding another location. However if you do decide to visit this location you can rest assure that most of the staff is knowledgeable in answering any questions you may have related to video game release dates or what games are currently the hot pick for any age demographic. One thing I do wish they could improve on is forming a check out line. It seems people are always never sure where the line starts. You kind of got to just stand next to the registers and hope your standing in the right spot. I've seen on numerous times people arguing on who got to the right spot of the line first. This is our new GameStop now that the one on Cherry closed. Though I miss Reggie at the old one, the staff here are just as nice and friendly. We picked up a gift card for my son's friend, and they asked if he was interested in pre-ordering anything. Not uncommon for them to ask, but what I liked was how they had a conversation with my son on what kinds of games he likes and made some pretty good recommendations on what was coming out. They are pretty good about explaining games to both kids and adults like me who are worried the game might be too mature, i.e. violent. Of course who am I kidding - I probably would get a rush from COD if I could handle the multiple button controllers, which I can't so there you go. Must be tough working in a mall right next to the food court. Lots of people are constantly walking in just to look around while they are waiting on food, which would be cool if they didn't leave cups and things in the store. The workers are pretty quick on cleaning up. The store itself is well kept and has a great stock of games and accessories. The workers are knowledgeable and kind. As for upselling, every gamestop has to meet a company quota. If they don't tell every customer about current offers and deals, they could lose their jobs. So, try to cut them some slack. The store has three demo systems to try out and generally has a lot of systems in stock. This store tends to have good limited edition games and consoles as well. read more

Came here to trade some games for cash. Decided to trade in towards Modern Warfare 3 as they were advertising a 30% trade in bonus. Steven was the employee helping me, after he calculated my trade in value, I inquired about the 30% bonus. He said "Oh, that promotion is not in effect anymore". There was a stack of flyers advertising the promotion right on the counter, and I looked right at it. He pushed them aside and said "Oh those shouldnt be out anymore". Right on my receipt it even said "30% trade in bonus towards Modern Warfare 3 through 11/20/11". I called other Game Stop locations the next day and they said the promotion was still valid. Don't go here unless you like being ripped off. I put the cash towards the MW3 preorder anyways. The next day I came back to cancel my preorder because I didn't want to give this location my business. He said you can't have cash back as you used trade in credit for the preorder. What utter bullshit. So, simply because I skipped the step of taking the cash and then using the cash for my preorder I can't have cash back!?!?!? Screw this location. read more

I only give them 1 star because I have to in order to make a review. My fiancé and I called around 6pm on a Sunday to make sure they have some ps4s available- we wanted to do their promotion of trading in a system. They guy on the phone Jeremy told me to come in. We live in San Jose, so we decided to go since they told us to try and be there before closing. We arrived there around 630pm. Since there was a line we waited. We finally get to the counter and told him we called and wanted to trade in our system. The employee states "its always the last ones that come in before we close". We asked if it was a problem since he gave us a smart remark, and he just reiterates what he said. First of off JEREMY, you aren't doing us a favor. We are the ones trying to give you business. We walked out because no customer deserves to feel belittled or make us feel like it was our fault that we came in. As I looked he began laughing and exchanging words to his assistant manager... Mind you, this shit talking was being done if front of customers! I'm not one to start drama or even complain, but when employees treat your customers like crap...I'll say something! This gamestop makes the closing of the cherry avenue location that much more sadder. Whereas that gamestop had great clerks who cared about their customers, this gamestop has guys who could care less about who comes in as long as they're shelling out cash. Tanforans gamestop has one of the rudest clerks I've ever encountered. This guy actually gave attitude to a customer because he didnt want to pay for an open "new game" which didnt even have the original cover. After telling the clerks he didnt want to pay for an open "new game" the clerk scoffed and actually tried to make the customer feel cheap. Purchased 3 NEW games online for in store pickup. Received order was ready for pickup within a couple hours. Picked up games a couple days later and clerk handed me games in bag. I didn't think twice to check games as I've never had a problem before. Arrived home and opened bag to notice 2 of the three games did not have original plastic that seals the game. There were stickers on the outside of the case that said "new" and games had been resealed by a clear plastic sticker. Upon reviewing the stickers on the covers one had a new sticker placed over a used sticker on the case. I was livid. How can a company sell games as "NEW" once the original plastic seal has been broken. One of the two "not so new" games had a fingerprint on the disc itself. NOT COOL. How can a corporation allow for this business practice to happen. I tried chatting with customer service online. That's another story. First agent at first was helpful but once I brought up my problem he told me to hold and he would look into my transaction. Five minutes later his next text was to close the chat session because I was not active. I was waiting for his next response and he closed the session. Immediately opened another chat and described my situation and demanded answers. Agent seemed nice and told me to hold on while he looked at my account. I was told "not to worry, I'll work on your request". 10 minutes later and nothing. I started typing in HELLO over and over again until he responded. This is when a third agent joined the chat and I started all over with my issue. Third agent looked into my order number and told me that one of the games I purchased was sent in system as used. I was told "At the price you paid for the game, you had to have purchased a used copy." I said I would gladly attach my order receipt that shows all games were New on order. Also told him to check the ad and see what that game I purchased was going for on the Pre-Black Friday sale and that the prices matched up to a new copy". 10 minutes later I get a message that he is looking at the difference in prices so he can credit me with a price difference. I stated that I didn't want a price adjustment, I wanted a prepaid shipping label to return the games and get a full refund. I said "Ill buy from an honest company going forward. 10 more minutes pass with no communication. At this point I was fed up. I said forget it all. I will drive back 30 minutes to the Gamestop I purchased from and demand a refund. At this point, he said hold for a second, then informed me he asked a manager and got authorization to refund me for my entire order!!!!! When I asked what to do with the games he said just keep them. Well unfortunately that doesn't help with me giving these games as gifts, I still have to go out and purchase 2 NEW games to give as gifts as I'm not wrapping up a used game to give as a present. Bottom line is I have two words for Gamestop, "BUSINESS ETHICS". Probably will never set foot in a Gamestop again unless there is an exclusive I want. Awful, just awful . read more

I really did not like this one, it felt like a money grabber instead of a place of business, constant up sale, give me more money, do you want to give me more money, we could use some more money from you, I spent over $200 that's plenty, but they treated me as if I gave them $5.00. The stupid part of this place is I would have spent even more if they had told me an action figure was sold separate from a toy I bought, but they could not stop with the magazine that I was not going to buy. Place is bad when it comes to being busy. I called in to see if they had a product in store. After calling 5 times, waiting at least 5 minutes interval. Their mailbox is full. Does this mean that they don't listen to their voicemails? I don't understand lol. Anyways I decided to come in. Knowledgeable, not pretentious, friendly and helpful to a fault. This GameStop has the greatest customer service. Mark, Kevin, Nicole and Nunes (?) were all so helpful in the three times I went to GameStop. Kevin and Nunes were very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. They helped us find what we needed and were very kind in answering all of our questions, no matter how ill informed our questions were, they didn't make us feel ignorant for asking them. Mark went above and beyond and helped us when we needed to return many games that would not work on our Xbox One (Xbox 360 games not yet available on Xbox One) and even gave us the 2 for 1 deal on games we had purchased prior before the actual promo. Mark answered all of our questions, helped us with everything we needed all while there was a huge line behind us. It meant a lot that he gave us his time and did not make us feel rushed or like a nuisance when we clearly were taking up a great deal of time. When we returned a third time to return a perfectly functioning game (someone ended up buying us the game as a gift), Nicole was very friendly and helped us despite the confusion of the buy 2 get 1 free returns. Mark also stopped by during that transaction, recognized us and talked to us about the game and helped Nicole with the transaction. Nicole was even so kind as to help us find a new case for our replacement used game, because she didn't like the condition of the original one we were purchasing. The GameStop team is truly a professional and friendly group of workers. I have never received such care at any video game store, much less any retail store. Truly exceptional. my go to place for games most of the time if they have exclusive items particularly at their location than any other retail store. brought the enjoyment back to gaming at considerate prices and reasonable deals. sometimes, it takes patience to get the games you want at a good deal. it's located near by and to the side of the food court so expect it to be loud in the weekends or busy hours. they have a staff of people who are acknowledgeable and if you are a parent/grandparent or anyone who isn't familiar with the gaming atmosphere, they help you out. knocking down questions to fit what you or the person you're buying for want -- because why settle for a simple gift card when you can be personal with your presents during holidays or birthdays! the only thing i wouldn't recommend sometimes ( depends on how old and the popularity of the games is ) is trading. trading is a hit or miss with any gamestop actually, they accept a good selection of retro/old games! but if you're someone who has mainly sport games, they end up losing their value since they release one every single year. donate them, hand it down to friends and family who have the same system if needed. their selection of games and systems are packed, it's rare for them to be out of stock of something unless it's popular/high demand or a product that isn't preordered ahead of time for yourself. which, preordering i recommend because money can be given back when you decide to cancel but hey, preordering benefits a spot to receive the product day of release. also if you're someone who games frequently, drop by occasionally. they usually have good deals where games drop in price or preowned bundles where you save so much more with or without a membership. been thankful to meet a group of workers here and feel comfortable in talking about games, didn't feel so pressure to buy anything more than what i needed ( despite them tempting me, darn them sometimes! lol. ) also the go-to people you wanna go to is cristian and tony. they've been the people who've helped me out on any purchase or preorder i've done and let me know on anything i would possibly be interested in. they develop a great connection with regular customers. read more

My first ever gamestop experience was a food court mall shop, lol. This one reminds me of that in some ways. Nice gamestop, if in a loud location. Relatively quick service, mall wasn't slammed with all the last minute Christmas shoppers, since it had only been open an hour. They looked up my inquiry and did their best to help. My Little Pony Blind Pack was a hit. I want to pick up a piggy if they have them in stock, next time I'm in. A game to, if it works out. I'm probably going to want to watch which are their busy hours and avoid, if possible. Went to Gamestop earlier to get a game and with about 8 employees behind the counter only 1 was helping customers while another was too busy stressing about going home and yet still helping customers with a fake smile while another was just greeting customers from behind all the other employees behind the counter so you didn't even know who was greeting you. This place has gone down hill even farther than the last time I went here. Very unorganized for a store that has that many employees. Unfortunately, the game was broke and didn't work when I tried it at home so I had to bring it back to the store for an exchange. The current store manager Mark is always accommodating to my needs and suggests games that are well within my interests. The only thing keeping me from giving this place a higher score is the customer service. One of the employees is named Steve. He handles his customers with distaste and apathy. I can only speak for Steve, as he was the only one that "served" me. I don't know the general aura of customer service in the store, but if you go there, just make sure you don't get helped by Steve. Steve told me they didn't have any used copies of a game. He told me to go to another GS for it. When I got there they said they were out of it but Tanforan GS has 3 of them. In terms of selection, location and size this is a solid overall store. It is the only GameStop in San Bruno and is in a mall meaning it can get a bit swarmed at times. Its walls can be a bit disorganized and the floors could use some elbow grease. But this store biggest strength and weakness are its employees. Some amazing people work here and some not so amazing people do as well. I have had the pleasure of having people such as Tony, Roze or Justin help me out and came away with great games and great deals. There are other people here who know literally NOTHING about gaming to the point that they can't recommend titles and need other customers to interject to prevent them from selling a horrible game to an unsuspecting consumer. It is quite disheartening going into a store that literally has GAME in the name and have three employee know nothing about a game or console. On top of this there are a select few employees who think they are God's gift to the gaming world and feel that their opinion is in fact the law of the land. Gaming is not about berating someone because they like games you don't, it is about enjoying great stories and experiences alone or with friends. A few months ago this store lost a couple veteran employees and has not been the same. Depending on the day you go in and the person who helps you, this GameStop will either be a great experience with helpful people or you will get stuck with someone who doesn't know the difference between Call of Duty and Dark Souls. read more
