I walked to the key counter, and stood behind a man that had been waiting for someone to help him. I asked him how long he'd been waiting, and he said it had been ~5 min since he asked for help. I walked back to the center cashier, who said there was now no one on the floor to help as everyone was on lunch break. I asked for the manager, and he said he was on a break. There were now three people waiting to get keys copied, and no staff to help. After waiting a few more minutes, I walked back to the center of the store and spoke loud enough so that the manager could hear in the back. The message? That customers needed help at the key counter. Finally, a staff person came to the counter, clearly annoyed, and said they were having problems with their staff-to-staff communication device. Unlikely. What they were having a problem with, was a clear misunderstanding of what customer service means. Talk about a failure to train employees. Never coming back, nor recommending this business to my friends or family. There are better businesses nearby, ones that actually understand the importance of customer service ... and they're just a short drive away.

The last trip was intended to be a quick stop for a few pots to plant the Christmas poinsettias, but I walked out with a full shopping cart of cooking utensils, planters and even a new pair of sunglasses - all for around $100. The value makes shopping at Safeway look like it's the Ritz in comparison. There's lots of parking in the parking lot (pun intended) and automatic doors for those who need them. Dressing rooms are large and well lit. The people are super nice and always friendly, even the ones waiting in the long lines for checkout. I think it's because they placate every shopper with a vast array of temptations on either side of the check-out line. Their product selection is decent and the price can be cheaper or more expensive than other big box stores, but the customer service here is 100% better than Lowe's or Home Depot. A couple of weeks ago I came to this store for the second time (I've been in other Ace stores before, so I knew the concept). My objective was to buy material for a project I started a few weeks before: building an activity board for my one year old toddler. (Google what it is :-)). So I've been wandering around in the store to browse for random things to connect to this piece of wood and hope it's safe enough for a toddler to play with it. The variety of "stuff" they have is impressive so it took me a while to get a good overview. The friendly staff kept asking me if I need help, but I declined saying "I'm just browsing". I'm sure they thought I wasn't going to buy anything and might even steal a thing. After being asked for the fifth time I gave in and explained what I was building. The guy helped me find a couple of things and even came to me later with a suggestion (battery powered light with a switch). Great at upwelling ;-) Overall a great place to buy things I didn't know existed and my daughter loves the bright red activity board with a variety of locks, wheels and other things connected to it.
