We recently hired GameTruck Chicago for my son's 8th birthday. It was such an easy party that I almost felt guilty for not planning more. But my son and his friends could not be happier spending an hour in this truck parked outside my house playing all their favorite games- Madden, Mario, Minecraft. All the boys were so engaged that I didn't hear a peep for an entire hour. Damien, our dedicated game coach, was timely (15 min early and ready to go right when the party started) and responsible. He did a great job of laying out the rules, but also keeping it fun for them. The most chaotic part was the 30 min they spent in my house after the truck eating pizza and cake. We sent them home all sugared up with mini gameboys (purchased at temu) and all were smiling. My son said it was his bday party ever, which was also probably the easiest party I've ever planned for my 3 kids...a win win for all! read more

We had an innocent miscommunication about the dates for my sons party and I had 10 9 year old boys waiting anxiously for the truck to arrive. When it was 15 min past the expected time I called and we figured out that we had a miscommunication about the month of the party. I thought it was for the current month and they had booked it for the following. I told them that the following month wouldn't work so they were supposed to refund the party but instead charged my card TWICE for the parties. We have now left 4+ messages plus text messages and they have fully charged me for a party that NEVER happened! In fact they charged me twice and then only refunded me for 1. No response! We are extremely frustrated and they have stolen the money from us. Happy to change my review if we can get reimbursed for the party that never occurred. read more

Used Game truck today for my son's birthday party. The truck comfortably fit 20 kids between the ages of 6-9. The game coach (Daniel) helped the kids get set up with their games & was able to answer questions when needed. The truck was on time (early) to the event & Daniel called me about 10minutes prior to arrival to let me know he was on his way. Prior to letting the kids on the truck, my husband set limits on types of games (ex: no fortnight). I also received an email about 1 week prior to our event confirming the reservation. read more

Marty was our game coach. Simply put, the guy is awesome. He is an expert and he is a gamer. He knows his stuff and can relate to the kids. This was for my sons 9th birthday and the kids had a blast. I would use them again and again. The price is right for what you are getting. Start to finish is was a terrific experience. The person that helped me book was excellent. This is the worst company. If I could put zero stars I would. Had them booked over a month in advance, confirmed the day before and they never showed. They ha s you pay in advance as well. I called and spoke with Danielle 5 minutes before the party was starting and supposedly the owner was calling me. I never received a call and then their phones went directly to voicemail. The whole concept was very exciting for our 11 year old. The truck arrived on time and the assistant was a nice guy. The issue is with many games requiring internet connections, the lack of this left the boys wanting so much more. This was a big let down. Also, given that many of the consoles such as Xbox require a live connection this prevented many of the stored games to even work during the event. This limited the experience even further. Overall given the price, I personally expected a more well rounded experience. read more

I'll start with the key thing - my son was very happy with this 9th birthday party, and 16 of his friends were entertained for nearly 2 hours. So many smiles, so many fun and funny interactions between these boys, it was well worth the cost. Positives: 1) friendly, helpful, personable host in the truck, Raul. He kept the kids setup with their favorite games, and even played the Nintendo Switch "Arms" game with the birthday boy for a while, giving him tips to improve. 2) Showed up timely, and was setup within 15 minutes to give the kids instructions and let them act the games for nearly the full 2 hour time slot. 3) Clean truck, and kept as warm as possible outside on a pretty cold November day. 4) Had all the necessary consoles and games that these kids desired (Minecraft, Super Smash Bros, Arms, Justice League something or other - too many for me to keep up with). 5) Before letting the kids in, he mentioned to me that he has loaded up games that were age appropriate, and did not include first person shooter games, which I appreciated. He would have loaded those up if I'd asked or approved it, but we left those off given the young audience. 6) when booking originally, the staff was quick to respond to the inquiry, and helpful to find me a feasible timeslot on the requested day. Room for improvement: the webpage that we were given for details about the party mentioned that I would be contacted by phone or email 5-7 days before the party for any last minute details. I did not receive that communication, and ended up emailing and calling them three days before just to make sure all was squared away. So, communication could be improved. THIS COMPANY IS ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE TO GET A HOLD OF. The first time we scheduled them (7/21/18) they were a NO CALL NO SHOW! What was I suppose to do with 17 7-year old boys and a Birthday boy who was absolutely DISTRAUGHT?! You mean to tell me that they didn't have another truck to send out?! ITS ALL BS!! Chicago parents beware. If you live on a public street, you will not be able to obtain a permit for the truck to park on your street as Game Truck Chicago is a middleman company who does not have a license to conduct business in Chicago. The customer "service" will put all the blame on you the customer and will suggest parking the truck at a pizza parlor a mile away from the house. (if I wanted a location party, we would have gone to FTW or Dave and Busters...). They just ruined my son's 10th birthday party and I am left scrambling for alternatives 4 days before I have 15 disappointed 10 year olds show up at my door. Treated terribly!  Outrageous!  This is the second review I have of this company.  The first over a year ago simply suggesting they lower their downpayment for booking a party. Nothing bad.  Well, a year later, guess what?  I decided to, in fact, book a party!  They should have been happy I returned, right?   Nope!  I booked party, gave them the deposit of about $240.  A couple days later I receive a call from a manager bringing up my Yelp review from over a year ago and that unless I retract review, I cannot have my party!!! Did you hear that?  I was completed appauled.  He was rude, and the call should never have happened, period! But what he should have said is, I see you gave us a low review (if you call it that!), but if you're happy with your party, would you please give us a good one? And I for sure would have done that!    But, no, he didn't. Instead I was threatened - yes, that's how I felt! - that if I didn't retract my review, they would not give me my party!!!   If things couldn't get any worse, when I hung up with him, an owner called me, and I began to tell him how upset I was.  And he was cutting me off and also being rude. He didn't want to hear anything I said.  He was argumentative and plain rude and unprofessional, to say the least.  He was even, I would say, throwing out personal attacks of me as well.  I was completed shocked that I was treated this way not once but twice by this company.  Needless to say, I cancelled my party and demanded my money back.  Guess what?  I found another company, same service that only asks for $150 deposit too!   Ironic.  Question:  What kind of review did they think I would give after all this?!  Nothing compared to the little one I made before.  Not very smart by them.  Their loss. read more

I have used GameTruck 3 times--February 2014, October 2014 and May 2015. The first 2 times were wonderful. The perfect activity to keep a number of children busy. The last time in May was a huge disappointment. I paid the same amount for all of the events. I actually paid less for the October 2014 party because they had offered an incredible bonus. The truck at the last party was maybe 1/2 the size of the other trucks they had given us for the SAME amount of money. I spoke with a representative after the party to inquire about what had happened and they never got back to me. I regret spending $100s of dollars for this truck. don't ever use this company!!! we had my son's 7th birthday planned and they called 1 hour before the party to cancel because the truck had break problems!!!!! horrible customer service and totally unreliable. the manager didn't even contact me, the driver called to cancel. no one answered the telephone when i called. needless to say i have a devastated 7 year old!! when your entire business depends on the truck, they should have it maintenanced on a daily basis to make sure they show up to all of their events. they are over priced and don't know how to run a business. read more

I am overall disappointed in my experience with this company. My initial interaction with the agent was pleasant. The day of the party, the host were 1.5 hours late. Between the host and phone agent, I was given 4 different reasons for them being late. First I was told running into a train made them 1.5 hours late, then I was told they had to go pick up equipment that had to be fixed. The agent told me it was traffic and later went on to say that I was the reason they were late bc I initially wanted a later time (which was never the case). By the time they arrived and set up, we lost about 15 degrees in the temperature and half of our day light. When the kids began to play, I was told their computer battery was about to die and they needed an extension cord. They did not come prepared with an extension cord and I did not have one long enough in my house. One of the host went on to tell me that it was an inconvenience that I did not have an extension cord- his exact words. At this point I was highly upset. I instructed him that they are unprepared and if they need an extension cord he needs to go to the corner to Walgreens and buy one. He did. After all this, they attempted to end the part 20 minutes early. I understand things happen but there was never any accountability from the host nor the phone agent for any of the issues. In fact, they tried to make it seem like the issues were my fault. That was the most disappointing part about the entire experience. read more

Recently I had DS 9th birthday party with GameTruck. I had high expectations leading up to the event, but I was pretty disappointed with the experience as a whole. To begin, the boys were all waiting for the truck outside, we saw it come around the block and were waiting for it to pull up. And waiting, and waiting. Finally another party guest arrived and said he was parked at the wrong house around the block. Now it's nearly my party start time and when he finally arrives, he can't unlock the truck trailer. I've got 16 8-year old boys clamoring to get on this truck, it's past my start time and he's fumbling with the lock. It gets worse. Everyone gets on and it's clear this guy has no idea what he's doing. He is struggling to find the game discs, can't connect any of the remotes to work, just completely flustered. We are now 20 minutes into this expensive truck rental and half the kids aren't even connected. At this point I go inside and call the office and leave a voicemail. I return outside to see that the cavalry has arrived, in the form of Spencer. He had managed to get everyone connected and is an affable guy. I expressed my disappointment but felt brushed off when his answer was, I appreciate your understanding, this is a brand new driver and I had to get him experience by just throwing him in there. Well, at my expense. The other issue I had was that GameTruck says that they manage the party, parents can just relax. Halfway through, I had 4-5 boys bored with the experience and playing outside. I asked them why and it's because they didn't know Xbox well. So I tell Spencer this and then he mentions to me that they also have the Wii. That should have been suggested as an option to everyone AND i think they could have done a better job keeping the kids engaged and involved in the truck that I paid so much for. I had originally asked them to stay late to make up the time at the beginning, and they were willing to. However, it occurred to me that that was not the answer, as I had parents showing up to pick up at a certain time and still needed to feed the boys. No other form of compensation was offered. In general, there were enough problems having a party with GameTruck that I wouldn't suggest it to other parents as a party option.
