The atmosphere is relaxing and comfortable, and it is obvious that the staff take pride in keeping their salon clean and comfortable. Armen has cut my hair both times and both times I loved my hair from the first day (there is no two-week period of waiting for it to grow out a little bit, it is great from the beginning). I've been searching for a new salon in Pleasanton for almost a year now, I tried out 2 places before and wasn't impressed or happy with the outcome. After trying out Gamma Salon last night I have FINALLY found my new spot! Monica did a great job and listened to everything I wanted and knew exactly what to do. I appreciate a confident stylist. I have dark brown straight hair and wanted very natural dark blonde and brown highlights. They turned out perfectly, very blended, natural and fun! I've already had so many compliments. The salon itself is relaxing and peaceful. The decor and stylist are great and very friendly. They use Kerastase products that are little bit on the pricey side but SO worth it. I had been going to the same stylist for the last 13 years in the city, as I just couldn't give up a good thing. But, after moving to Pleasanton and having to lose a whole day in getting my hair cut and colored, I decided to look locally. Got to say one of the cleanest and trendy salons I've seen, went to Gamma with my fiance to get a hair makeover, and "WOW!" her hair do was amazing as if it was out of a vogue magazine. We're from San Francisco and we went all the way to Pleasanton, and I have to say my fiance was really pleased as she saw my awed face. They offered me water, coffee or tea while I waited. My stylist was Monica and she was fantastic. She listened to what I wanted and gave suggestions. I'd like to preface this review by noting that I have never written one. I've never really found it worth my time one way or another. I appreciate reading others reviews but have never felt passionately enough about an incident or experience to do so. My experience also did not occur at Gamma Salon so this is no indication of the salon, itself, but of Jen Wills. So I do hope this review provides you with a bit of direction, saves you money, and protects your hair. I have been getting my hair colored for over five years and have never had such a terrible experience as when I went to see Jen Wills. She was recommended by my typical hair dresser since my girl was out of town. Jen's Instagram was glowing and she had raving reviews so I felt very confident going to see her. But it wasn't until after my appointment with her, that I realized how terrible it was. Jen showed up 45 minutes late, claiming that she first had booked me for 1:15 pm not 1:00 pm and then proceeded to tell me she was running 5-10 mins late. This later turned into she was stuck in traffic while I've now been sitting at a coffee shop across the street for almost an hour. But no worries on my end, people are people and this could be a simple mistake and misunderstanding. I reminded myself that she still has raving reviews and great results. She introduced herself, super energetically and I sat in the chair. I showed her pictures of what I wanted, which was taking my yellow blonde sombre to a white blonde ombre for winter. She discussed price with me which I appreciated and noted that depending on the amount of color used and my hair length (which was a medium length at the time), this could be $250. She did mention that she didn't think that would be the case with the length of my hair and base color. The result was great and other customers were complimenting my "princess hair." Jen curled it and I was very happy with the result until I looked at the time... it had been 3 and a half hours! But no worries, the result was great - how could I complain?! She charged me the full $250, which to be honest, rubbed me the wrong way because the change wasn't THAT drastic and my hair wasn't past my boob area, but again, great result! She also did her little sales pitch on me and got me to purchase a blue shampoo that would "make my color last" and we set up an touch-up appointment six weeks later. Let's just say I canceled after letting the experience really sink it. Within 7 weeks, my hair felt like hay. It was damaged and dry. My color had faded (I was using the shampoo she sold me, following her exact instructions too!) and my hair was breaking. My appointment with Jen was this past Christmas and now, even in August and 8 months later (after 2 Kerastase deep conditioning treatments and regular trims with my original stylist) my hair feels the same way - damaged and dry. My hair dresser told me Jen used a 30 (whatever that means in hair dresser terms) on my entire head, including my ends when my hair dresser had personally never used beyond a 10 on me. When I returned to the salon and ran into her, she did not say hello and only glared at me over and over. I also found her personal Instagram profile, which showed that during the time she was telling me she was "running late" and "stuck in traffic," she posted a selfie in her car. She over charged me and ruined my hair. So in the end, I would not recommend Jen to anyone. She is dishonest and unprofessional, and manipulative when it comes to her clients. I bought a groupon mostly because of the great reviews here on Yelp. The owner cut my hair as well. It was a beautiful shop and I was very happy with the cut. The entire experience was maybe 35 minutes. The groupon was $30 for a cut, saying that they were normally $65. That seems high to me and that's why I took a star away. If it'd been something 'magical' and he spent an hour, I think I would have made it five stars. He is talented as a hair cutter and I would recommend this shop as well. read more

I went here a few months ago for a curl style for my hair. I can't remember the name of the girl that my appointment was with, but it started with an "M." Needless to say, she's not there anymore. Even before she started to curl my hair, I told her that my hair is very difficult to curl and she'll need to use more product to maintain the curls. I paid the $55 and left the salon. About an hour later, all the curls were almost gone! I had to re-curl my hair at home before going to my friend's wedding. I researched many reviews to find someone who could do great highlights on my hair - I have always been blonde however with time, my hair is getting darker. Most stylists have wanted to support the dark growth claiming it will look more natural, not understanding I wanted to keep my original blonde look. For someone that is in and out of meetings, conference calls, airports and train stations.....it is such a relief to know you can have this flexibility. She was kind and professional as I detailed what I needed and what I had been encountering with other stylists. She assured me not to worry, she was accommodating to my hectic schedule, and I had my first appointment with her. She did an amazing job...not only the highlights and the cut, she made me feel so comfortable and relaxed in Gamma Salon (a rare occasion for me) and when I left, I felt like my old self....but younger : ) I have been back twice (I should have written this review a few months back) and get the same results. I saw @hair_byjenwills on Instagram & loved her work. It was easy to make an appointment with her & she was flexible with my schedule. Plus it was pretty much last minute. It's always scary to go to a new person but as soon as I sat down in Jen's chair, she made me feel comfortable. She talked me thru my ideas & explained how it would look on my hair & then explained how she would do it. I won't lie, halfway thru the process, I thought she didn't understand what I wanted- only because her process was nothing like what I was used to & I couldn't understand how what I wanted would become the final product. But of course, she did. She knew what I wanted and more. The A-line cut was amazing & I had no idea I wanted it. The whole look was just perfect. And it didn't stop there. I had family pictures that evening so she styled it so it was Pinterest/Instagram worthy! We even did a mini photo shoot before I left, which made the whole experience one I'll never forget! Milada is one of the most talented hair stylist we know in our area and does mine, my wife's and son's hair for many years . We live in Castro Valley but drive all the way to Pleasanton since Milada started working in Gamma salon. Gamma salon is very stylish, clean and friendly place and Milada is perfect in suggesting new hair styles and colors to my wife.
