Our friends recently moved to Rocklin so when we went to visit we were excited that they got to introduce us to one of their go-to places. Despite not drinking beer, we still had a blast! Went here the other night and I have to say that it was great! I had a great Pastrami Sandwich and a nice beer. Sorry, I truly don't remember what the name of the beer was, but it was a nice light and crisp blonde. I highly recommend this place. Perfect for dates or even groups. The bartender, Randy, was really nice. He suggested the beer that I drank, the pastrami sandwich I had, and the soup that my date had. He did not hover and did not rush us to order. He let us have our conversation, took our order and went about his business around the bar. He let us enjoy our date and the restaurant, I appreciate things like that. First, there are no instructions as to whether you should seat yourself, or wait to be seated. Had to figure that out ourselves. Then I got the 'invisible man' treatment, one of my favorites. Several employees walked by without greeting or asking about my order. Wife wanted the French dip sandwich. I think I was speaking to the owner who said, "We don't have that tonite." No apologies or explanations. Later heard from a neighboring table, that they didn't have any chili either. No French dip? No chili? On a Saturday night? Huh? This place has a really good location with plenty of indoor and outdoor room to work with. They do a good job of keeping everything family friendly and allow kids inside. With the usual brewery/Taphouse games such as corn hole, over size connect four, and packs of cards. It's too bad that it's so loud inside even when it isn't very busy that you can barely have a conversation with anyone you're sharing a table with. Food was good, service was not. Friend and I sat at the bar, ordered food and a beer, both were good. The service however was awful. The bartender was rude and though it was not busy, he didn't want to be bothered. The area needed a good wipe down, but he was oblivious. One would hope that with the difficulties the industry has faced over the last year, a good attitude would be a given. Apparently, he missed the memo. We won't be returning! I used to love the place, perfect for a post workout beer on a Friday. This last visit I had nothing but problems, so much so it lead to me talking to the owner. At which point he told me he didn't need or want the business from me or my friends. This all transpired over a few slices of pizza for the kids brought from a business across the street. I'm sure gander's bottom line won't be truly impacted by this review. I ordered the chili appetizer and the "adult" hot dog with bacon and cheese on top. I shared the chili with my wife, and the hot dog was great. My kids had the children's pasta with meatballs and they both loved it, my wife had the French dip and she said it was good. The amount of beers on tap is great, they had a very good IPA. they also had a few versions of kombucha which my wife likes and she said it was very good. Fantastic spot in the heart of loomis with a great selection of beers. Tons of space for big groups as well as decent food. Staff is very friendly and approachable. The business itself is a solid 4-5 stars no question. The reason for the 2 stars is because of the owner. I believe his name is Nate. In my experience from the many times I've visited the establishment he seems to favor the people he has a personal relationship with over other customers. I tend to sit at the bar, and in the handful of times I've visited he seems to give myself and other customers I've talked to the cold shoulder. In the short instances we chatted he acted unfriendly and smug. I sit back and observe the dynamic between himself and other customers and it seems to be a pattern. It be a good idea to treat your paying customers all the same regardless of what your relationship with them is. Just to be clear I don't have a personal vendetta against the guy whatsoever! I'm a big fan of the Gander and all its amenities. I just wanted to shed some awareness on how some people aren't getting the same type of attention as they should as customers. Food was good and server was very pleasant. When I go to a restaurant, I really want service at the table (not ordering at a counter.) I understand different establishments offer different things, but it's not my preference if I am going to a restaurant for a dine-in experience. Gander Taphouse was an awesome experience! My friends and I shared a variety of dishes, all of which were excellent! My favorites were the ahi tuna bowl, the cheese panini, and the lemon bar. The ahi was very fresh and high quality. The cheese panini had 5 cheeses and a bit of pesto served in delicious buttered grilled sourdough. The lemon bar was divine with a perfect combination of tart and sweet with a fun twist: a torched marshmallow topping! They also serve beer flights which is great because it allows you to try a few before committing. My favorite was the lavender cider. They also serve kombuchas (some alcoholic, some not). We tried some sparkling rose, and that was great too! Great place for adults and kids alike as they have fun games including cornhole, foosball, connect 4, and shuffle board.
