Gandules Grill I believe this location was in Lee county Florida. We were out on a ride with our brother and his wife. They took us to this restaurant they have been to a few times. Atmosphere - kind of chill. We went on a rainy Saturday evening. There was seating inside and outside. Lots of people were coming many were groups of 4 or more, mostly more. The location is in a shopping center so it is small. There are tv screens behind the bar. Music playing. It is a vibe! The restaurant gives a clean island feel. The wall are white and there are several back drops of green grass and flowers. Seating is kind of close. Service - it was not spectacular. Our waitress was nice and knowledgeable about the menu. Food - Full of flavor. There are many things on the menu and are just like the pictures. We ordered, in no particular order/plate; red beans, rice and Gandules, vegetable, grouper baked, all players come with salad. Someone got a dessert and we all got fruit drinks. 1. Order the rice and beans. Do not miss out. This is the star of the show. I have had beans everywhere. These were the best I have ever had including the rice. 2. Order a fruit drink, it is a must. And 3. Look over the menu, look at other tables before you make a decision. They have some interesting dishes. Be daring try something new. Pricing - reasonable hubby a my check was about $60 with tip, hubby had an alcoholic beverage. They always cost as much as the meal, lol. I definitely recommend Gandules Grill. Not a first timer, the two of us both had chicken mojo. The mojo was fantastic, the chicken was either precooked, or cooled frozen. It was dried out, and gummy. A huge disappointment. The sides were excellent, but didn't make up for the main dish. We were given our check, but our server put in the wrong chit at the table side. We ended up paying $25 more for our meal. We went back and our server was aware she made a mistake. Sometimes apologies are not enough, the manager should offer a drink or appetizer on her next time. This place is absolutely amazing, this is definitely a local favorite! We were on vacation and a friend recommended this restaurant. It is a small restaurant and it stays busy. They do have inside and outside seating. Literally everything I ate was amazing, from the fresh fruit frozen drinks, sangrias, margaritas to the appetizers, skirt steak, mojo chicken, rice & peas, Nutella brownie a la mode and they have amazing mocha dessert drinks. Tried out Gandules yesterday thinking it would be a good restaurant because of all of the reviews, I was extremely disappointed with the food and the service wasn't great as well. We got there at around 8, and got a table for 2 outside in the patio as the inside wait was going to be around 50 minutes. The host was nice and accommodating, the interior looked fresh and nice, and it got me excited for the food. Me and my girlfriend sat down outside, ordered food, and got the appetizer pretty quickly. Coconut shrimp: Solid/good tasting dish, not my type of food though, my girlfriend really enjoyed it, so I would recommend it. After the appetizers though, we waited 50 minutes for our food, and never got any service after that. The server never checked on us, and just left us outside. Granted, she didn't have to check on us often, but it would've been nice to get refills of our drinks (we never got a single refill), and to tell us our food's coming out. The food was delivered by a different staff member as well, not by our server. After the long wait, I was extremely excited for the food. Props to Gandules, their music DJ and the environment was great. I could smell the strong aromas of food around me, and the menu also looked great. I ordered the Pork Chunks and Shrimp with rice, mixed vegetables, and garlic sauce for $21. I'd give it a mediocre 5/10 rating, partly because the portion size was big, but the food wasn't great. The pork chunks were overcooked and hard, plain and dry, and just didn't have much flavor overall. The rice and grilled vegetables were also extremely bland, not a hint of salt or seasoning added to any of them. And the shrimp was acceptable, just tasted like plain shrimp, with some juice. Overall for me, I wouldn't recommend it, but they did plate the food nicely which was a plus. My girlfriend got the crazy french fries which were actually decent, she really enjoyed it, and the portion size was pretty big. But definitely, for this food being $60 total + tip, I would not come back again. Extremely disappointed with the food, and I expected more from an authentic puerto rican restaurant. read more

You know that this Puerto Rican Place where's it's heart on its slave when you go in and they're bumping music so loud that you can't hear what anybody is saying. I I go in after ordering online and the waitress behind the counter it says the foods not ready yet. That's all right with me, we're about 20 minutes away anyway, though we still live in Lehigh. Right when I sit down and start to try to untie and re-tying my shoe again, they call me. So I go and get the food and turned to leave when the karaoke guy who is apparently the owner, asks me that I have to wait long for my meal? So I told him, about 30 seconds ha ha. Now I have to say this too, the food's flavors were as loud as the music. They put their heart and soul in this food and it expertly shows. My wife and I ordered the La Picadera Sampler and the cheese cake with Ferraro and Nutella. Everything was impeccably delicious and I suggest that if you have no idea what you want, order that. Finally, we got a chance to try the new Gandules Grill. What an amazing experience! We went for an early dinner about 4:50 PM. There were lines formed at the Take-out counter. The weather is hot and we opted to sit inside. The staff is so friendly. If you get any question, they are more than happy to answer or explain the Puerto Rican cuisine. I have a Pina Colada, that was topped with whip cream. It was so good! The presentation of grilled skirt steak with onions and peppers was simply amazing. When you paired it with Rice with Pigeon Peas and a salad, it was a huge meal! The Octopus and garlic shrimps are so flavorful that it is mouthwatering! I have been here a few times and each time it is simply amazing. My favorite app to get is the fried cheese with guava dip (literally mouth watering) but the coconut shrimp are also a good choice. For entrée I usually opt for the conch and octopus sandwich (if you're not into seafood they also have chicken) or one of the platters like octopus and shrimp. The platter comes with a side salad and your choice of sweet plantains, fries or rice with pigeon peas. What I love about this place is that the food tastes fresh, the seafood especially. The last time I came we decided to get the piña coladas as people seem to rave about them, the server mentioned they could be done without alcohol so we opted for that choice. The were so good I was honestly surprised and the presentation was so nice! Since we came on a Friday the place was very lively with some Latin music playing, the ambiance was great, the owner or manager (I'm not sure who he was) picked up the mic and was making some fun commentary- it was such a great time. I do have to note that each time I have been here the owner/manger took his time to go to each table and genuinely ask how everything was. The servers are also amazing as they take their time to help you decide what to order without any sense of rushing. Overall, this is a great place with yummy food and awesome service. My favorite is the dufongo (yucca and cassava) with roasted veggies and the utterly *amazing* creole sauce; it is worth an upcharge or whatever it takes to get extra! It's very rare that a restaurant lives up to the hype. Since moving to the area 20 years ago, food has always been an issue. Wepa! We felt lucky to find this puerto rican spot while on vacation in fort Myers. Where do I start,, when you walk in you immediately hear the salsa pumping! Then we were greeted by super friendly waitress. The place is super nice and was crowed on this weekday, nonetheless we were seated right away. We ordered the Chuleta Kan Kan , the largest platter in the house and very popular. It has the largest pork chop ever seen accompanied by arroz con gandules & , platanos, salad. My hubby washed it down like nothing, plate clean. I guess it was super delicious. I got the Monfongo side. Perfect side with rice, beans, super good. Of course I had to have the traditional pina colada with a twist of mango... so yummy. I've been to Puerto Rico and had authentic food. I can say the flavor profile here was incredible. You have to get the garlic sauce...only way to flavor it. I recommend the mofongo for the side as it's authentic. Surprisingly the shrimp came with a good amount--believe 6-7 big pieces. The restaurant felt homie as it's locally owned.
