Another amazing dinner experience! We ordered a wide range of dishes: sushi, kimchi stew, chicken wings, edamame, bibimbop and ramen noodles. Every bite was a sensation. Shout out to our fabulous waiter, Cameron! Aside from knowing more about Korean cuisine than Google, he was swift, patient with our large party, and anticipated everything we needed. Be sure to check with them before you try eat here. The website and Yelp shows it is open until 9 PM. Just walked in at 7:30 PM on a Wednesday. All the barstools were on top of the bar. Not welcoming, I was only person in there. It's our first time visiting Evansville and this dining experience with family was a memorable one for Korean food and Japanese Sushi. Coming from California (Bay Area), we have high standards for Asian cuisine. We gave it a shot since we were staying nearby at the DoubleTree and we were very pleased. The inside was awesome! It had a classic old town feel with the wood build, checkerboard floors, and high ceilings, a nice bar area with high top tables in the center, plenty of sports TVs, and special large booths with K-Pop entertainment! This is a great spot for casual birthday parties. The Korean food was very tasty!!! Flavorful and at the correct temperature and doneness. The spicy pork meat had nice char and was moist. The Soon-Tofu Jigae (soft tofu stew) hit the spot. The Gimbap (Korean Sushi) was the best we ever had. Moist, light, and fluffy. We ordered it 3 times. The Japanese sushi was also a hit. I have rarely experienced such a well informed and helpful staff when it comes to interpreting the menu for a westerner such as myself. The decor is reminiscent of a Korean nightclub while the food is authentically Korean. One of my favorite restaurants in town. Tried the kimchee bibim-bap with beef and it was delicious. The beef with veggies and rice was so flavorful and very generous portions as well. My husband tried the Yook Gae Jang soup and it was super amazing as well. The broth was spicy and flavorful but light, the noodles and beef made it hearty enough for a filling dinner. We tried a sushi roll for an appetizer and even thought the roll was one of the better sushi rolls we have had in town even though it's not specifically a sushi place. The good: The restaurant was easy to find and appeared clean. The menu was not huge but offered plenty of variety for our group. The wait staff was excellent. Our waiter was friendly and attentive, all orders for our party were taken easily and everyone's food came out correctly. The food was good, everyone liked their entrees and the meals were customizable to your liking. Our waiter was very knowledgeable on the menu items and was willing to suggest and describe items. Drinks were refilled as needed. The checks were split correctly in the end. Meal standouts included the sushi selections and the beef bulgogi. All staff we encountered were attentive and friendly. The bathrooms seemed clean and in good working order. The just OK: Due to the architecture of the building, it wasn't easy to seat a large party in a semi-private area. They arranged two tables in a bench-nook for us and it wound up working out just fine, even though at first, we didn't love the arrangement. The decor was a little odd. I can't put my finger on it exactly but there were several styles working against each other with the decor and lighting. It just did not have a cohesive feeling. There is not a kids menu at this restaurant but our waiter was able to suggest several kid friendly options from the menu and suggest alterations to menu items to make them better suited for children. (They did have wooden high chairs available.) Our food came out at different times, with some hot entrees coming out as much as 10 minutes past others of the same type. I personally didn't like the add-on price of $4 for the entree if you wanted meat (Example Bibimbop, Ramyun). I feel one add-on should just be included in the base menu price and then you could add on additional for additional cost if desired. The beef that I received in my entree had a good flavor but was not the best cut, there were several grisly pieces. One member of our party forgot to order beef with her Bibimbop and was slightly disappointed by it when it came out. This wasn't the restaurant's fault, but it's a thing to remember when ordering. On the way home, we discussed that the only major downfall of this place was really the price. The food had good flavor, the portion size was reasonable, the service was great, the atmosphere was ok, and then the price was big. I would eat here again for a lunch or light dinner but it really felt like for the price, I would expect an overall more polished experience. I mentally compared it to some higher end local establishments and what it would cost to feed our family of four and this was up there. This is a tough one to review. The decor and K-Pop are flat out brutal, especially the K-Pop on 48" tvs in your booth. Non stop and quite frankly annoying. We probably would have stayed longer and had more soju, but couldn't take it anymore (owners, that means we would have spent more $$). The waitress was very friendly and attentive, so 5 stars there. We were downtown Evansville for an event on Super Bowl Sunday. Got Korean hot wings, different, but good. Sushi chef came out to explain how he could accommodate a platter for my Son and I with sushi, nigiri and sashimi. It was very good--fresh. It's been a while since I've written a review, but this restaurant owner really stands out. I had no idea "Gangnam" was a district in Seoul, Korea. Joe, the owner told us all about it's Las Vegas like glitz. Each booth feels like a private room with K-pop videos playing at a conversational enabling volume. TV's with sports events are everywhere. I love Korean food, and i love Korean culture. When i came to this country my first friends were Korean. I was born around Koreans and i ate with them. I grew up with them, and even dated one during her exchange program here in evansville. I went to Korea to see my friends from high school and college as well as my gf. Ive had all kinds of Korean dishes so i think i have a good idea of what to expect from restaurants in the states. Gangnam Korean cuisine is a few steps up from jayas but far from perfect. As one of the Korean reviewer on here said, its just ok but over priced. Now i haven't had everything from this restaurant and i didn't order the most popular dish which is the bibimbap but instead opted for the japchae. Its glass noodles that is suppose to be sweet but in my case it tasted bland. Not much flavor but far from bad. Ive had japchae many times before, and it was better then what i got from here. Even my girlfriend made better japchae from youtube videos and ingredients we bought from the asian market. Korean dishes are also known for their side dishes but for this restaurant i only got three, kimchi, Korean pancakes, and beansprouts. Maybe i went to late but the amount of side dishes was lacking. That being said they were still good. Now again i haven't had everything so i do plan to go again and try the other stuff but from what i had it was just ok. Now when it comes to the look of the restaurant they have it right. Many people might not know this but Gangnam is the shopping district of seoul south Korea. So the club scene is actually pretty accurate. They even have flat screen tv's in every booth playing Korean pop to set the Korean mood. All thats missing is some karaoke rooms to perfect it, but that might be asking for too much since the asian population in evansville is lacking. Most Korean restaurants go for the bright light brown wood tables and seats with white floors and white wallpapers but again this is Gangnam themed. Over all i think this place is a good start for a Korean restaurant in Evansville but they still have room to improve. I wish them the best of luck and hopefully their other options will turn me into a regular. Oh and please add soju to your liquor options, its not Korean without soju haha.
