My friend recommended this bar for a date, and it was a great recommendation. The bar is dimly lit with nice romantic vibes. It was so dimly lit that I had to put the menu close to the candlelight so I could read it. The outside of it looked sketchy, and we went the wrong way at first before we figured out where the entrance was. It is aptly located in a parking garage. I came here on a first date, so I didn't take pictures as I didn't want to make my date uncomfortable with my Yelp activities. We came here on a Monday night, so it was nearly empty. I heard that you need a reservation if you come on a busy night. I got the Rey Mysterio cocktail, which has plum wine. This drink was so light that I could barely taste any alcohol, and I am normally sensitive to it. It tasted sweet and I liked it, but it really wasn't strong enough at all to justify the price. My friend who recommended this bar to me said that she accidentally ordered a $30 cocktail when she came here. My partner hadn't been to Garage and we decided to go on a whim. I will say, having a reservation is the best way to go as you'll have an actual table. We went as a walk-in and after a short wait, we were ushered into the "grazing area" lol. This area is around the bar and more of a first-come-first-serve with the few low tables and couches they have. We were lucky enough to grab a couch but I will say this feels more of an area for a one maybe two drink moment before you begin to have millennial guilt and seeing others stand waiting for a spot. We came right when it opened and it wasn't that much of a crowd which was good because we had a pretty decent sized group and wanted to be sure we could hear one another clearly. I love great intentional use of space and Garage does just that. The seating is great, so you can meet people if you'd like but also are fine to stay to yourself. The lighting is good and matches the theme, and it's very clean - including the bathrooms which I always appreciate. The drinks were spot on. From the cocktails they recommend to the bartender absolutely nailing a Black Berry Bramble. It's been so hard to find someone that can do it properly even at really high end bars and I was blown away by the drink. For that reason alone I shall return. I heard of Garage when I first moved to Austin and have passed it a few times while downtown. When waiting for another reservation, we decided to stop by Garage. It was super small and very dark inside. When walking up, there were people sitting out which I guess is a first-come, first-serve basis. It made for a very crowded door, in my opinion. When you get inside, the host stand is very small and overcrowded. The tables are close together and you're practically sitting on the group next to you. They do appear to have larger, booth like tables for bigger groups. The menu itself is very limited but the drink was good. I got the Hotel Nacional, which is white rum, apricot, pineapple, lime. I think they're better speakeasies in Austin where you can get a bigger bang for your buck. read more

Very easy to get to, literally just park in the parking garage and walk up the ramp. We did not have reservations but luckily only had to wait about 15 minutes to get in. It was interesting that for those who don't have reservations, they have a side area with a few small tables that you can sit at if they are open. If they aren't, you'll just be standing sipping your drinks. The menu is relatively simple with a few drinks going into kind of a combination of experimental and old school with some interesting flavor pairings. The bartenders seems quiet and unapproachable at first but upon talking to them, they were very quick to answer any questions and were quite warm. The drinks were pretty good, though as one other reviewer stated, one of my drinks, the Sherry Cobbler, was mostly ice, and about three sips. This is definitely an interesting place to check out. I was skeptical that it was really in a parking garage, but it is REALLY in a parking garage. The aesthetic is interesting and I was fascinated to look around and see the ways they closed it off from the rest of the garage. I liked the decor, and it definitely has a hip vibe, with candles and incense. The drinks are complex but quite expensive (many were $20...sorry, what?) and I thought the server could have done a better job guiding us through the menu. But we did enjoy what we got, except for one person, and the server brought her a new drink since she didn't like the first, which I thought was nice (but also appropriate given the cost). Cons for me were the tiny tables. It is more of lounge seating, so the table was at my knee-level, which sucked for being in a dress. There were 4 of us, bent over the table, and it is also hard to hear, and you are close to other parties, so it was very hard to get comfortable in the tiny seats while having a conversation. It is somehow both intimate and cozy while also having no privacy or space to relax. I also could smell the faint scent of...well...being in a parking garage. Gas? Emissions? Rubber? Not quite sure. We made a reservation for 5pm at Garage, and were the first ones to arrive. We were quickly seated and welcomed warmly by the entire staff! Our server was an absolute angel, and was extremely attentive, offering to answer any questions or give suggestions. We opted for a total of 4 drinks off the menu and my mom ordered a glass of wine. The drinks were actually good sizes, and not overloaded with ice or watered down. They were all very unique and very, very good!! logistics: This speakeasy is pretty easy to find. It's inside the garage and has a huge neon sign pointing to the entrance. We had reservations for Thursday at 6pm and it was busy when we arrived. The hostess mentioned happy hour ends at 7pm and that's when it cleared out for a bit. A good mix of groups and couples which made a great ambiance. We parked in the parking garage across the street for $10. I'm not sure if they validate parking in their garage, but that would be a nice touch. drinks: They have a good-sized menu so our bartender recommended the Indian Paintbrush and Penicillin as they are always on their menu. Speakeasy... It's always fun to explore some "hidden gems" and this place is a good definition of that. My partner and I enjoyed some well-crafted libations and the atmosphere was pretty inviting. The whole reservations thing was a bit much in opinion. Maybe I just haven't been to enough speakeasies, idk. Having a slightly extended wait to enter was a bit off putting but being able have drinks or order and sit at the outside foyer was a decent compromise before a space at the bar opened justas we were about to put our drink orders in. The space is roomier than I imagined it would be and the space was very comfortable and pleasantly lit. Each cocktail was made with a little umph in it so no complaints there. I'd come back to this place and bring some out of towners for a quick stop in earlier in an evening out. I probably won't make a reservation, though, because I like living on the edge read more
