I almost skipped Garage Bar & Grill after reading some of the negative Yelp reviews, but my wife wanted to go for music bingo, and I'm glad we did. It was a busy night, but the service was friendly and attentive. The music bingo was a lot of fun, very well run, and created a great atmosphere. The salmon BLT was outstanding, and the sweet potato fries with maple syrup for dipping were a nice touch. Really cute restaurant in downtown Vermillion. Clean and a good amount of space. Service was solid, thy were crowded but kept checking on us. Staff were all very nice. Food was amazing. Whenever I try a new restaurant, I assess it's quality by ordering a burger and fries. My first trip to the Garage was EXCEPTIONAL! The burger was really really good, but the fries hot out of the fryer were better than any I've had - anywhere! We did a carryout order a few weeks later (burger and fries again!) but the fries were not as good since they cooled by the time I got home. The ambiance is clever and cute. Service was pretty good - the server was quite busy. Food was brought out by the cook. Definite worth a visit!! read more

After the last few times being here the outcome has been the same sadly...waiting an extreme amount of time for mediocre food. This place was recommended to us by a local, so we tried it. I can't say that the food wasn't good, the problem I had was when we got the bill! I have NEVER paid $22 just for a wrap! And charged $4 as an upcharge for onion rings instead of just chips. I was even charged for something that was SUPPOSED to come with my entree. The bill for our food was $86!! That's REDICULOUS!! Never in my life have I left a negative review, but this establishment and our server, Holly, deserve one. Please do not dine here if you are a minority of any kind. We waited nearly two hours (1hr and 45 minutes if we're counting) for our food despite our party of three placing our order within five minutes of entering. The restaurant had no more than a dozen patrons, all of whom seemed to be treated well, and I have to believe it was because of the way they looked. Our server delivered mine and another order, but seemed to forget all about the third member of our group, who does not pass as white/straight/conservative . After a rude reply to a question about our food and 40 minutes later we had to wave down our server (as she was checking on another table certainly not us). We let her know we were still waiting on a burger and she said she had "forgotten" to put it in. Mistakes happen, but after already waiting 40 minutes for a burger, we had to wait for an additional 30 minutes for cold food and not even a cursory apology. Monster in my Meal: First time stopping by and the end of the night. Was met with nothing but kindness from the bartenders and the bar owner. Most places would frown on you trying to order food 15 minutes before closing, but they welcomed us in and served us well. Nothing but a great time and great conversation with the owner. Probably one of the worst values I've come across in Ohio. I purposely waited until after they had been up and running for several months. I wanted to let them work out the kinks from their grand opening like all establishments will have. I periodically would check the menu during this time and although it would change slightly over those months one thing remained the same. It was significantly overpriced, at least on paper. When I finally checked it out, it was overpriced in practice as well. I made sure to go during a slower time as to avoid any rush or a crowded bar. There were only 4 other patrons when I arrived and 7 (including myself) when I left. I sat at the bar hoping to receive quicker service. The bartender treated me promptly and asked my drink order. I said I'll "start" with a water for now and a menu. This was the only time I was approached about a drink, again I was sitting at a bar. Seemed like the bartender was more interested in hanging out with the manager? Owners daughter? In the corner of the place. I could hear her talking about ideals of opening another location. I almost had to hunt them down to put in my order. Food didn't take terribly long to come out, which was delivered straight from the kitchen as the bartender never again came to check on me(sitting at a bar) It was nearly $30 for a burger and fries. So many choices but we settled on the shrimp quesadilla and we're not disappointed. It was the best one I've ever had. The place was clean, the atmosphere friendly and the drinks were reasonable. I have never felt less welcome in an establishment in my life. I am a queer person of color, but I'm not someone to avoid somewhere just because I don't think I'll pass as "conservative enough" in comparison to others around me. I've found that most people will almost always lead with kindness, even if they are racist or homophobic or whatever, especially if I am in a group with other more conservative-passing people (which I was). That was NOT the case here. My party received markedly slower and less friendly service than all of the other groups in the restaurant. We didn't get checked in on a single time by our waitress across the whole hour and 45 minutes that we were stuck there, whereas she was constantly checking in on the tables around us (and I feel I should mention that the restaurant wasn't particularly busy either--there were only 4-5 groups inside). Whenever we had questions, we were met with cold and unfriendly 1-5 word replies, and otherwise, she didn't say a single word to us. Then, while my friends got their food no problem, after 40 minutes of waiting for my own food to come out (and again, needing to flag our waitress down to bring this to her attention), she claimed to have "forgotten" to put my order in, even though I watched her write it down on the same ticket as my fiends' orders. I then waited ANOTHER 30 minutes before I received the single burger that I had ordered (which was cold by the way). Finally, when we were trying to get boxes and the check (which was right after my food arrived since we had already been there for over an hour and a half), our server was going out of her way to avoid helping us to the point that ANOTHER PATRON even tried to get her to look at us, only for her to go the direct opposite direction from where they said to look! The food was good, but they have some problems with their system. Either their point of sale system doesn't work right or the servers just don't know how to use it. On 2 occasions when I was there with large groups requesting separate checks, the checks were all goofed up. Really wanted this to be a good place. We were there on Saturday and it was very evident the owner and the front of the house were working hard to take care of the customers and i dont have anything to say, but positives for them. The negatives are the price point for the food and the kitchen itself. I have no problem paying for a good meal, but it needs to be good. i ordered a double smash burger with bacon for $20. The $2 bacon was ready serve, like yo would get at a Burger King and a Subway. The burger came out as a single, and after reading reviews that seems to be an issue with the kitchen. The burger i did receive was overcooked and dry. I plan on giving this place a second chance in about 6 months or so. They need to figure out their price points and get the back of the house figured out. read more

Had flatbread pizza that was awful ..like worse than frozen pizza. Great ambiance!!!! New and clean great opening night! Try the salmon BLT, the salmon hides the bun - terrific sandwich. Server got the order right. Kitchen got it wrong in. 4 of our 6 people. We scraped off toppings to be excluded or on the side and ate the side that differed than the ticket. Also carried glasses inside to ask for tea and ginger ale refills when server didn't circle back. All first world problems. But it was 'T busy, which makes me wonder what busy would do. It's new. Surely some of this is kinks getting ironed out. Maybe a manager visit to tables would've id'd it while we were there. read more
