Unfortunately, not a good experience. Service is poor and we waited over an hour for our food. Asked the server several times but they kept saying other tickets were in front of us. Our entire group was very disappointed with the quality of food. Chicken paprikash was okay but lacked a lot of flavor and paprika. The "dumplings" are really just doughy bread slices. However, this was not explained to us and I'm realizing this may be true Czech style? The spaetzle was fine. The pork dish was overcooked and dry. They did had a fun outdoor area with a great band playing live music. Would not return unless just for music and drinks. I would suggest they put more care towards their customers and ask if they want more drinks or comp an appetizer if the wait for the food is over an hour. read more

I think I got food poisoning there Went there last Saturday, August'26. Ordered the beef goulash with spetzels and was not feeling well after an hr or so, by evening had a splitting headache, explosive watery diarrhea and spent the next day ALL DAY sick and in bed. Still feeling weird two days later. Felt perfectly fine before eating there. Have to say, the interior of the restaurant is very dated, in poor condition, service was sketchy, and food just didn't taste as good as I remember it in the past. Picked a random spot for dinner meeting some friends in Vermilion and the Old Prague is the real deal!! Wonderful outdoor seating for summer and fall. A little dingy inside. We had quick service and the server gave us great recommendations and insight. We ordered the kraut pierogies, kielbasa and potato pancake appetizers. The kielbasa was to die for!! I had the roast pork dinner and my husband the roasted duck. Easily his favorite duck he's ever had. The spaetzle and dumplings were great. Really good sauerkraut that was fresh. We had a 1.5 year old eating with us and he cleared like 3 small plates of spaetzle and a bunch of kielbasa. That's high praise. read more

He told me that the wine he was about to serve me was 6 days old and nearly empty but did not offer a fresh bottle. He recommended going some place else. So we did. Very disappointing. We came in February 1, 2025 with a large group including children. They were open on this day for the ice carving festival, check if they are open before you come. We had a nice experience last week at Old Prague. Crystal, our server, was very pleasant and helpful. Yes, the menu is limited and unusual, but the potato pancakes were delicious and the apple strudel was good if not extraordinary. The inside/outside bar looks like a good time but we were a little chilly so we opted for inside, which has interesting posters and the like. Ozzy Osbourne seemed to be a fav. There was no live music when we were there but they have it as often as possible. Thanks to Crystal who really took good care of two old ladies! read more

First of all service. I'm a single woman who, after seeing that it was no longer a hot and sunny day in Vermilion, i opted for Old Prague. I'm Slovak and haven't had good, Slovak potato pancakes since my mother died. Prague is Czech, similar but not the same. Anyway, two people were dining outside, and I walked inside a pretty sizable place. Dark and not a soul in sight. I called out to see if anyone was there. Not a bartender or server outside, not one inside. AH! A peep out of the kitchen door and server appears, telling me that yes, there was a bartender for the double bar. Too dark inside; I sat at the then-empty outside bar. Alas! A not-so-jovial man drops menu on me and leaves to wherever. All of a sudden, three bikers sit at the bar. They were big, Harley guys. Bartender comes out, greets them with a flourish, and they all four start jabbering. I meanwhile am suddenly invisible because I don't speak bike. He brings me club soda after I asked (no water brought). Brings my drink w/o a word. Another guy comes in. Kissed his but. Biker. A couple comes in. Bikers. BOTTOM LINE I WAS LIVING IN A MACHO WORLD, who could have cared less I was there. FOOD. My 'potato pancakes' came with my side of sauerkraut. Pancakes? No, they were like potato medallions. This restaurant is in my hometown yet I had somehow never been there in all of my 41 years. On a road trip I thought it'd be fun to take my in-laws since my MIL is Czech. I vibe is fun and lively and it appears they have live music regularly which is nice. The food however leaves much to be desired. The chicken paperkash is bland and boring but simple. The spatzel according to my MIL is good but she was very disappointed that it wasn't served with applesauce. Service was fine but the drinks are grossly overpriced. First time here. Really wish this place was closer to home. They have a dining area as well as a bar inside and outside. I noticed a pool table in one of the rooms. This establishment has a homey feel like you're in someone's grandmother's house. And i loved it! We stopped in on our way back home from the island. Awesome customer service. Sad to give such a bad review but I need to share my experience. We were visiting from out of state and drove 45 mins from Cleveland just to have czech food. When we arrived, the menu was much smaller than what's on their website, no goulash and no dumplings (both of which I was really looking forward to), no kids meals or smaller portions. My husband got the schnitzel and we asked if it came with gravy (because we saw it in other pics and didn't want it). We were told it came on the side, but when the bill came; we were charged for it. Since there was no kids meal, the recommendation was an appetizer like fried cheese, I asked for broccoli instead of fries and the only option was to pay extra for a side of it. My chicken paprikash was cold, as was the side of broccoli. We were told the reason for the small menu was they were very short staffed and their goulash didn't sell much in the past, but for me it's a staple czech meal and to have the food cold for what they did offer was a disappointment. read more

I am being generous and giving 4 stars as this place is having difficulties with staffing and they really are trying their best to get back to normal operations after Covid. All of us enjoyed our meals and the food was tasty, but the presentation was lacking and the menu is extremely limited. My wife and I had the schnitzel with spaetzle and it was prepared perfectly. Thin light coating, not greasy and the spaetzles were obviously homemade and it was served with a wonderful gravy. But it came with no vegetable and so the plate looked a little plain. Maybe include some rote kraut, or a cucumber salad to bring some life to the dish. We also tried the potato pancakes and roast pork...all were delicious. The apricot pierogis were fantastic. The menu at this time is extremely limited with only a few entrees but hopefully they will get back to normal. It's clear to me that they can churn out some wonderful dishes and their full menu looks great. I do plan on returning once the full menu is available. They have a nice bar area and patio with a nice selection of imported beers. I was glad to see lots of people at the bar as I really want to see this restaurant get back on its feet. read more

When I was little, coming to Old Prague was so exciting. I'm Czech and I LOVE traditional Bohemian food. As I've gotten older, I've felt something change here. Simply put, for the spirit of honestly, the portions are getting smaller and smaller and the presentation is getting lesser. If you're used to the "wow" factor of similar ethnic restaurants in the Greater Cleveland area, you're going be less satisfied here. On a super recent visit, my family and I looked at each other with genuine disappointment. I still love Old Prague. I love the decor, the authenticity, and the food. The chicken parprikash is delicious, great beer selection, the sauerkraut has the true sour taste I crave, and the dumplings are perfect. I just wished it matched the value for its prices. I hope this will change soon, and that my childhood feelings will restore to their fully glory. read more

What an ethnic gem right near the Lake Erie beaches. Food is great, selection of beers is big. They even have Poutine (Canadian food) and Duck wings. Went there today. Very disappointed. The food we ordered was a not very good. Sauerkraut balls and duck wings for lunch. The sauerkraut balls were bland. Not nearly what grandma made. The horseradish dipping sauce was equally bland. All 2 tablespoons that they served with our 12 sauerkraut balls. We had to ask for additional. The Czech beer was served in a glass that was poorly cleaned. Not a frosted glass but a nice warm glass. Our server saved all the frosted glasses for the people that came in after we were served. Now to the duck wings. Good lord they were so so overcooked think hard beef jerk!! Not even joking here. Oh almost forgot. My wife's Diet Coke had no carbonation. We ordered Bavarian sampler, chicken paprikash, roast pork and roast duck. The chicken paprikash felt a bit short and underwhelming. It was very flavorful as the other dishes. Nonetheless, their roast pork and roast duck were amazing. They were nicely cooked and super tender. I really loved how different their sauerkraut was. It was a bit sweet and tasty. Furthermore, their Bavarian sampler was delicious as well. Will definitely come back to this place again. I would give it 3.5 stars if that was an option. We had a disappointing experience for dinner. As boat travelers, we were excited to see the restaurant so close to the harbor. We looked over the menu that they had posted on their web site and decided that their variety of Eastern European food and the scheduled live music would be perfect for a Thursday night. Once we were seated, we were quickly acknowledged and soon had some great beer in our hands. However, the menu was only a shadow of their online menu, with the items that we had been craving no longer available. When asked, the waitress said that the menus have not agreed for over a year. Well, bait and switch yanks my chain! Ultimately, we ordered Bavarian Pretzel logs to start, Schitzel with spatzel, and the duck dish. Our food came out without our pretzels. The waitress said that "she would go put them in" and that it should be right out. With that promise, we agreed. The spatzel had no flavor and was nothing more than boiled flour chunks. Similarly, the schnitzel lacked flavor and the breading, or maybe batter, fell off of the meat. The duck had some taste but was tougher than it should be. Finally, after we were done with another beer and the entree, the pretzels arrived. They appear to be over cooked and an exact match for off-the-truck pretzel logs that we see at chain restaurants. Life is too short for disappointing restaurant experiences. We will not be going back. read more

The chicken paprikas (that's right, you do not spell it with an "h" at the end) came with dumplings that looked like slices of undercooked bread. four of us had dinner there last night. It was a complete zero! Service was very bad. Got first of four meals with in minutes the other three meals came about 20 min.'s apart. three of the meals were way over cooked., tough and dry (two Pork and one was Weiner Schnitzel). My wife and I have a history with the Old Prague so we're always hopeful, but the poor service and limited menu is keeping us from being regulars. Vermilion is a tourist town so the Old Prague made the smart decision to add an outdoor patio and live music. Unfortunately, the restaurant has become an afterthought. The menu doesn't match the online menu. They are short staffed. The food still tasted good but no vegetables or bread. When we finished our meal the waitress brought us our check and took our plates. What a hoot. I've been going to Vermillion for years. It used to be a great place to go for a walk and go antiquing in the summer. Now there aren't as many cool shops and downtown is looking a bit worn, but one gem remains. I have passed by Old Prague so many times thinking "one of these days, I have to go in there." And finally, this past weekend, Idid. What the heck was I waiting for? This place is fantastic. We started out with sauerkraut pierogis. I'm Polish and I grew up eating exceptional sauerkraut pierogies. Then I came to Cleveland and nearly gagged on Cleveland's version. It seems that NEOH thinks one takes sauerkraut out of jar, rolls it in some dough and calls it a pierogi. Not so. Oh no no no no no. Old Prague does them the right way! The sauerkraut is obviously rinsed of bitterness, sauteed in butter, bacon and mushrooms before it is stuffed into the dough. The pierogis are boiled then sauteeed in more of the kraut mixture and butter. Brilliant. I had the Czech version of Halushki (meat and sauerkraut with garlic and cayenne) and Mon Cher Chou had the chicken paprikash. I loved my dish, with its really interesting bready dumplings. The paprikash was good, flavorful and creamy, but lacked the spicy punch Mon Cher Chou experienced when he visited Prauge. The European potato soup (a beef soup with potato chunks in it rather than the creamy version we eat here.) was fabulous-- just like my grandmother's. My only complaint was my daughter's kielbasa sandwich. It was rather parsimonious with the kielbasa. One small 3 inch piece was sliced in half and placed on a giant roll. It tasted good, but was rather skimpy for the price. The service was excellent. Our waitress was a complete sweetheart-- we ended up chatting with her for a while. The owner was a hoot-- admonishing my daughter to eat her dinner. The piano player came over to chat with us, then gave my daughter a lesson. They played a duet! It turns out she is a montessori music educator. Many people in the room were speaking Czech and greeting the owner like good friends. But the time we left, we felt like we were good friends, too. This is one of those places you don't go to very often and when you DO go, you ask yourself, "Why don't I come here more often?" Anyways, the food is pretty stellar, the prices are moderate, maybe a little pricey for the portions (in the $teens-$20's range for an entree, salad not included). The location is great, downtown Vermilion, wonderful in the summer. Parts of the atmosphere are cool, parts seem a tad outdated. The service was slow (it was PACKED and it was only staffed by two people, but to their credit they're hiring help), and for a Saturday night, they seemed to be out of a few too many items. This was probably the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. I'm a big fan of Czech food, so I was psyched at the menu and the wide selection of Czech beer. My first tip off that something was wrong should've been the fact that they were out of two of the beers I ordered at first. Second tip off should've been the fact that it took 20 minutes to get the beers. But the real issue was how god-awful terrible the food was. I ordered the roast pork, my brother-in-law the chicken paprikash, and my wife the broccoli paprikash. The chicken was clearly cooked one way and then covered in sauce. It was not the slowly stewed and succulent dish that I've had many other times. The broccoli was frozen and covered with the same tasteless sauce. But my pork was the real winner of terribleness. The pork was dry. So dry that I literally couldn't muster up enough saliva to swallow. I've eaten saltine crackers that were moister than this pork. It was the single worst piece of food I've ever paid for. For only the second time in my life, I sent back a dish to the kitchen and asked for something else. When the waitress came back, instead of apologizing for what I had to eat, she tried to convince me that because the pork was very lean, it could sometimes seem dry. And that also, they had closed down the rest of the kitchen and couldn't make anything new for me. Instead, she suggested I take the pork to-go. I was gobsmacked. The food was terrible in the restaurant under optimal conditions. Did the really think it would be improved my me taking it home and microwaving it?
