I've visited the new Garbo's location twice now since it's a bit closer to me than the original spot on Parker and I have to say they've done a great job with both the interior and the service. They kept the nautical theme throughout the restaurant, which you really notice from the bar area where I sat. Service was friendly and very attentive even on a slow Sunday although though I'm guessing this location might be more of a dinner spot. There's plenty of seating both downstairs and upstairs, which makes it a good option for larger groups. As for the food I went with the Connecticut-style lobster roll since it was a warm afternoon, but the menu offers a solid variety of seafood and non-seafood options along with some delicious desserts like the key lime pie which I also got to try. Prices are definitely on the higher side as expected with quality seafood, but I had a coupon that helped offset the cost. I can't say I'd come here regularly because of the price point, but if I'm in the area and craving seafood this would easily be my go-to place. read more

Very disappointed with my first visit to this location. I've been eating at the "main" location up by Parmer Lane since before it moved there. Went with family for an early dinner. The place was empty and service was good. Unfortunately the lobter meat on the rolls we ordered was dry and not very tasty. The fries were barely hot enough that I didn't have to send them back. Other family members had a few dishes that were very underwhelming too (a shrimp dish and fish & chips). Lobster rolls are one of my favorite foods even though they're pretty expensive. Garbo's Dripping Springs. Growing up in Hays County I never in a million years thought that word pairing would come out of my mouth. But, it's happened. Taking over the space that was formerly a French restaurant. They failed because they were never open. I actually feared this when Garbo's initially opened only seeing dinner hours to start. Lunch and brunch service are now a thing and we've been in to dine twice. No, it's not cheap. This ain't LJS or Red Lobster; prices I think are are on point for the portions. Case in point would be the New England Clam chowder. $13 for a generous cup; $21 for literally a half gallon of goodness. It's been the GF's goto both visits. Creamy with additional notes of savory like bacon and old bay sprinkle? She also likes the OG Fish Burrito in bowl form to save carbs. We even took young teenager Rooster F. along on the last visit. He loved the soup and his Fish and Chips. No complaints about the breading as some have mentioned. OMG, my kiddo is finally growing into a foodie. Next weekend he'll his revolving sushi trip I've promised since June. I've had the Linguini and Clams twice now. Something you don't get too often in Texas. Razor thin garlic slices nestled in between the delicate pasta. I do have a question though having not visited the northern east coast. Are all clams this small? Similar size to the Clams Casino at The Palm San Antonio. The dish topped with open clam shells. Carefully remove and stir for a great dish; grilled bread was the perfect vessel to sop up the remnants. One dessert we tried was the Chocolate Pot de Creme. I was short on time so I decided to order take out from Garbos. I'm from the northeast so my visit to Garbos was long over due. OMG! I was delighted with everything I ordered & I can't wait to go back and have the full dining experience. The lobster pot pie was a delight and a very large serving. I ordered all the small bites. The fish taco & tuna tostada were great. I almost didn't order the empanada because well mine are the best. But I'm so glad I did. The smoked tuna with the chimichurri was delicious. It was more of a pastry dough than empanada dough but it paired well with the smoked tuna & it will be the first thing I order next time. If take out was this great, I can't wait to come back. A huge thank you for to the staff & the chef for accommodating my son's food allergies and confirming everything. I was at piece trying a new place which is priceless. read more

I'm so happy to get Garbos in Dripping Springs. I've been to their Pflugerville location and loved it. The food was delicious and everything had large portions and was served at the perfect temperature. They did a great job with turning the old restaurant into their own! The decor is very well done and has a very nice New England vibe to it. Our waitress disappeared for a little while and we had to wait for her to come back and were never offered refills on our drinks. We will be back - probably not a regular place because it is pretty pricey - $19 for a cup of lobster bisque is a lot (especially for me being from Maine and being used to lobster for $10) read more

So happy to see a new restaurant where La Vercher used to be (miss y'all!). Garbos does not disappoint! Good lobster bisque, lobster mac and cheese bites, huge fish and chips and lobster rolls were all so good and fresh!! One star minus is the bisque doesn't come out pipping hot. My hubby loves his food really hot and the bisque just isn't. We've been there twice and will definitely continue to go since it's so good! I have been here twice for dinner and can tell you the lobster rolls are fresh and delicious. The atmosphere is cute with a sea-faring style and very clean. The food did not disappoint. We had lobster rolls with side salads and fries with a key lime pie for dessert. The time before we had lobster and wine, and had an enjoyable experience both times, thanks to Leah; who provided world class service with our orders. She is friendly and very knowledgeable of the menu; offering recommendations that were on point. This is a great little place, and it is our "go-to" place for seafood. If you're in the mood for fish or lobster, check it out. Suggest using your phone map to find it, although it is right off 290 W it is tucked away and there are no signs by the road, so it helps to have directions handy. read more

This was the worst meal I have had at a restaurant in many years. So bad it inspired me to come off a thirteen year hiatus of yelp reviews. I just went with my family after being outside all day and we were all starving. We started with Brussels sprouts, white fish dip and crab cakes. Everything was very bland, but could be considered mediocre. White fish was probably the best, but I could whip up a fish salad better than that at a moments notice in a stranger's kitchen. The crab cake was bland and cold. The Brussels were not cooked nearly enough. While the appetizers were mediocre, the clam chowder was honestly, appalling. It was so overcooked it was the consistently of Ublec. Like grandma's gravy left of the stove for 14 hrs. The chowder was recommended to us by our waitress instead of the lobster bisque. I mean, honestly I'm just shocked that anyone would serve it looking the way it did. It was like mortar you lay between bricks. And again, zero flavor other than the ball of bacon on top. Im hoping her intention was to steer us away from the likely equally disgusting, but nearly twice as expensive lobster bisque. The chowder was... wow. I had the $38 "seasonal" roll. My bread was well toasted and my sandwich was mediocre, but again not popping in flavor. If you're trying to let the sea food sing on its own accord, it's not working. You may have to resort to more butter or salt for some flavor. I would have loved to mention any of this to our waitress, but she never asked us once if the food was good or not. My guess is that she knew it was not. This place screams "private equity" (lavish lipstick on a hideous hog). and I will never be returning due to schockjngly bad food taste and quality. Everything was delicious! My grandson, husband and daughter had the lobster special. The lobsters were delicious! They were fresh and cooked well! I had the lobster roll which is always good. We also had the calamari and the fish dip which were also excellent! The key lime pie and ice cream were a perfect ending! We love this place so much that we recently ate there three times in one week! One caution is that if you are ordering the lobster on a Sunday, call ahead and make sure that they have enough. Sometimes they run out after Saturday. The one suggestion that I have for improvement is to have better bread for the fish dip. read more

It was good when this location first opened. Last two times not very good at all. We went there tonight because it was close to where we were and we were again disappointed. The shrimp was not fresh but frozen. Six small flavorless shrimp over a bed of soggy fries. calamari was rubbery, soggy and lukewarm. Yay! Another unique dining experience in Hill Country! I initially visited thinking this was a fish market, something desperately needed in dripping springs btw, to find out that this is one of three Garbo's in Texas. A girl from Connecticut brought those yummy Lobstah rolls to the land-locked Austin. And it's a great thing for us. Ambience is casual and fun-doors with portholes, seashell chandeliers, nautical decor, deli style bar for kitchen-watching and even an attached mini creamery. We are on one of those healthy diets so we had to make some changes to existing menu items and they worked so nicely with us. Our bartender was salty but totally a hoot - the kind of person you love to give it right back to. Our waitress was attentive and sweet. She must have known we were dehydrated because she brought us an entire carafe of water which made refills a cinch. We both had shrimp dishes and the shrimp selection was large and delicious in both. We didn't have room, or diet allowance , for dessert but the banana pudding looked delectable. We are already planning out our next dinner out there with grandkids since the back room was very kid friendly. Friends told us about the Garbo's in downtown Austin but we decided to come to Drippings Spring instead. The restaurant decor is fun and reminds us of Maine. Our server is very attentive and super friendly, letting us taste the smoked fish dip which was delicious! The main stars of the show, the lobster rolls are AMAZINGLY SUMPTUOUS. Second trip to Garbo's new Dripping location, this time with a party of four. On the first visit, my review was comprehensive, taking into account (with weight) any changes in the venue and ambience but allowing for the fact that it was their grand opening. Some of that can be set aside this time, though I will say that service and our waitress were again superb. I had questions about the catch of the day, and she went out of her way to get answers. Anyhow, this time is more about the food. First, two of us ordered as an aperitif some of their fresh oysters. They were New England oysters and very fresh (the list changes almost daily, I would guess) and authentic. However, about a minute after they arrived, our entrees arrived too. So the hors d'ouvres really became by default part of the main course. And created quite a clutter on the table. It's a timing issue they have to cure if they're going to continue to offer fresh oysters. Two of us ordered lobster rolls, Garbo's signature dish and the springboard from which they launched their growth in Austin. Our table chose the Connecticut treatment-- broiled and warm rather than cold. The lobster was very fresh, but there was a lot of roll and not a lot of lobster. Our two companions were slightly disappointed that there was a deficit of drawn butter in the serving. They asked for it and got it on the side. The fries on the side were very good and hand cut (contrary to what I expressed in my first review). But, next time, if we really want lobster, we'll skip the roll and just order that. Another of the party had the fish and chips. As mentioned in my earlier scribbling, they are excellent as far as fish and chips go. Not to be dismissive, but it's a classic English pub dish that requires principally a good breading recipe and close attention to the deep fryer. I had the market fish. The catch of the day was a pan cooked lake trout (steelhead to some). If cooked properly, steelhead is a fine, delicate meat, flakey and subtle. The chef did it justice, with only a light lemon butter glaze added. The tendency with steelhead, as with mahi mahi, is to use the fish as a vehicle for what the sous chef has concocted as a sauce. Garbos resisted that and respected the quality of the fish itself. Thanks. The jalapeño slaw beneath was adequate, but the asparagus side was tough and overdone. So, it was a mixed bag of results for this second venture to the new Garbo's. We're learning what they do well. And what they don't. When what we want for the evening meal matches what they do well, we'll be back. read more

First and last visit to this Garbo's location. N Austin location has always been solid. Server was great but not the food. I thought that after being opened a year they would get the kinks out and learn how to cook a limited menu. Everyone at our table ordered fish & chips and apparently they tried to cook at least all four orders in the fryer at the same time. Result, soggy oil soaked fish and fries. You can't batter 1 lb slabs of fillets and expect it to come out crispy when you load the fryer and you end up frying at 200°. Filets were also very dark which means the oil was probably old which could also account for the soggy mess. Nothing was edible.......nothing. read more

We came in for the first time for lunch. It's super clean and bright inside with a fun but not overwhelming nautical theme. We sat at the bar and Andrea was so awesome! She helped us with meal recommendations, made me a custom drink, and got us a little gift from the kitchen as first time guests. The staff and service at Garbo's were great -- very friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the price. The crab cakes were mostly fillers with little real crab flavor, and everything seemed deep-fried, with no baked or grilled options for fish. The dishes almost tasted like frozen food from Sysco. Service was excellent. Ambiance was very nice. You could almost imagine you were in Cape Cod. Food was good. A little on the expensive side, but quite fresh. We enjoyed: MOZZARELLA & LOBSTER BITES - this would have been a great meal if that is all you ordered and they provided more. I brought my mother here for lunch today and it was wonderful! The Maine lobster roll was great, the Brussel sprouts were delicious, the ceviche was incredible and the service was perfection. Super disappointed, we had high hopes that Drip could finally get in a restaurant that served quality food. Ordered the clam fritters and clam chowder to start with a glass of Chardonnay. There is no clam in that fritter. It's basically a huge ball of dough over fried, the dough was raw inside, and that lime sauce did not go. The clam chowder is basically a bowl of thick gravy, AKA roux. Again, no clams to be found, 99% potato and an appalling amount of microwavable pre-made bacon on the top. It was so bad that my husband and I both took one bite and asked for the check politely. We also only ate one of the fritters. I wish you guys luck, but I suggest you put more pride and use real ingredients in your clam chowder. Had dinner last Friday and very pleased!!! The ambience was great as we were familiar with the prior restaurant in the location and we like way Garbo's remolded the location, especially the nautical maps of Long Island Sound on the walls. We had 1/2 dozen oysters that were probably some of the best we have had in Central Taxes in the 30 years we have lived here and also enjoyed the clams and linguine. Next visit we will go for a full dozen oysters and order the seafood tower. While many restaurants aspire to have top end seafood, Garbo's really delivers on the promise. Some other reviews feel the lobster rolls are pricey, but they are priced to market comparable to other restaurants that serve them. Had lunch here today. I ordered the $25 crabcake appetizer. It came out with two small, almost burnt, crabcakes. It had an arugula side salad with it, which was meh. I was hungry so I ate it. When the waiter asked how it was, I told him the crabcakes were overcooked. He didn't seem to care. I wish it had been good because I love seafood. If the waiter had handled it differently, I would probably go back. The only reason I gave it 2 's instead of one is because the soft serve ice cream cup was yummy. Seriously $25 for an appetizer and the cook doesn't know how to cook crabcakes.??? Someone needs to do some training! Very disappointing. read more
