As a young homeowner, I have had trouble keeping up with my yard maintenance. He didn't answer when I called at first (he was probably on a job) so I left him a message, but called me back fairly quickly. He was accommodating to meet me for a consultation at the end of his day since he was in the area. He was very knowledgeable with everything and agreed to getting it done the following week since he already had a lot of projects going on. To be honest we didn't shop around much, because I was pretty impressed by his Yelp reviews and just took it for granted that he would do good work. We weren't not disappointed, and we are reassured by friends and cursory internet searches that Mateo's price for removing our two trees was well below average. It actually seems like we go quite a good deal, so lucky us! He came out same day and gave us a quote, and then was back the next day with his crew to haul off the trees. He is very straight forward and frank about pricing and services, and at least for us he was super fast. He does seem very busy though, and as far as we can tell it was just him and his small crew, so I wouldn't be shocked if he wasn't always that prompt. Some people have commented that Mateo is a bit of a character, and we can confirm this to be the case. I enjoyed how laid-back and personable he was, and I also thought his sarcastic and blunt manner made him funny and easy to talk to. We joked about the world cup and how people are raving about him on Yelp. I can see how some people might be expecting something a little more formal/reserved/professional, but I personally prefer Mateo's approach to just acting like a normal human being. More importantly, say what you will about his personality, but there is absolutely NOTHING unprofessional about his quality of work or the way he conducts business, he gets it done right and is very proud of the quality of his work. I haven't written a review in a long time, but Mateo deserves something more than just my money and my thanks for this. My wife and I bought the only lot in the neighborhood with big trees on them. Gorgeous and shady, right? How about 11 years of leaves acorns and branches piled under them? We've gone out there together and spent entire weekends filling 40-50 bags full of leaves and debris only to come away exhausted and frustrated. In comes Mateo who came out on a Saturday to our home in East Round Rock all the way from his home in Bastrop just to take a look. We settled on 350 dollars for the cleanup (wow!) and shake hands, chat a little, and schedule for two Tuesdays later. The following weekend I try my hand at replacing one of my fence panels which we lost during some tree trimming the week before. I spend half my day on it and the panel looks awful and doesn't fit. I called Mateo and asked if they could put the panel in for me. He asks a few easy questions and says no problem. I offer to add in 100 bucks (I was super frustrated at that fence and would've paid with my own limbs at that point) and he says that's more than enough. Cool. Tuesday rolls around and they show up around 9am, 11am Mateo calls me at work and says they're getting close to done and needs the screws for the fence (I left them in the garage, of course) so I head home and WOW. They had done in 2 hours what my wife and I couldn't accomplish in several entire weekends. Not only that, I witnessed one of Mateo's guys put that new fence panel on absolutely straight and perfectly cut inside of 45 minutes. I was thrilled. My neighbors have been using this company for quite sometime. I started noticing months ago that the crew would blow the neighbors leaves into my yard instead of picking them. We be very large trees, the one in the middle of our house has no leaves.m, completely bare. BUT the neighbors tree has tons, so obviously their yard gets covered. When they blow the leaves they literally blow them in my drive and under my vehicles and bush. My husband went out and blew them all back. After that they blew them while my husband was blowing them and they put them on the neighbors side of the house and in the street and left. My husband made a call, spoke to a woman, she apologized and that was it. Fast forward to weeks on weeks later. IT HAS STILL BEEN HAPPENING, now they are sucking up with the lawn mower around 30% but, they are still blowing all the leaves to my side, they did this while I sat in the car and watched them. After a lot of rain, my realtor told me that we needed to take pictures for listing my house at 2:45pm Well, even though I gave another company a shot days ahead (ABC), they had delays in getting their quote to me and getting a crew out. I had to have my lawn mowed and edged. I had to have the landscaping bed rid of a bunch of weeds (and grass that snuck in). The grass in some areas were a foot tall. I got a call back within 15 minutes. He had to take a look at another bid, but the crew came within 2 hours and got everything done with time to spare. While some people will just take a weed whacker and say they've cleaned your beds, Mateo and his crew got in there with their hands. When you don't want commercial, when you want someone that will help you in a bind, give these guys a call. I tried calling other places and their responses were all that their schedules were booked. I have worked with Mateo off and on for several years now. My experience with him has been mixed. I wanted a tree trimmed. Being new to TX I did not know about the oak tree pruning rules. Mateo happily trimmed it and it died. I had to spend $600 having the tree removed! I've had Mateo do yard clean up and trimming (shrubs and plants), and have always been pleased with the work. Most of the credit though has to go to his guys, who do the bulk of that work. Most recently, although it was actually 5 months ago, I contracted him to lay sod on 1/2 of my relatively small backyard. As always, Mateo would ask, "What do you want to pay?" Always thought this was unprofessional. We finally agreed to $2000. With me doing some of the removal work myself. Over the next 5 months, Mateo would promise this date to work, no show. Then it would rain. That was usually then a delay of weeks. Back on the schedule for certain day, no show. After a month and a half and $1500 trust money paid, the sod got laid down. One thing I always appreciated was that the guys would blow and tidy before starting. As it turned out we needed more sod to finish the very small area left. I had to pay him the remaining $500 so he could get the sod and pay his guys. That was sometime in November/December. It's March 16 and after many texts and voice mails left, again and again, Mateo seems to have fallen off the map. No responses. No communication at all. Although people are leaving reviews so I know he's alive. I have a 3/4 finished yard. I am so disappointed. Granted Mateo always seemed scattered, but when the work got done I was for the most part pleased. I don't know how many other folks have had a similar experience. Probably more than there should be. I hired Mateo based on the glowing reviews on Yelp. I dismissed the few unfavorable ones knowing there are always a few. Working with Mateo was both delightful yet exasperating. MATEO TOOK PAYMENT AND NEVER DID THE WORK! I've used Mateo before, and despite being hard to track down to complete the job, he usually managed to finish up after a few weeks. However, this time, he charged me $800 to mow and trim bushes in my front and back yards. It seemed steep, but I figured it would have been about 10 hours of work. He only showed up with another guy twice for about 2 hours, and never responded to my repeated calls and voicemails to finish up the work for over 3 months. I made the mistake for paying him in full up front. DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE! No matter how friendly he seems to be, DO NOT PAY IN ADVANCE! Mateo is a dishonest liar who doesn't even have the courtesy of responding. He's also a lot sketchier now. When he showed up the 2nd time, he was complaining about how it was tough to find a good crew, because they all wanted to be paid well. He said that he would have to start hiring "guys with no papers"! I wasn't sure if he was joking, but I would stay far away from him if he's flouting immigration laws. Mateo's guys have done it again! After having Mateo's crew out for three straight days, our 1-acre property looks better than it's looked in decades. It's incredible! I've read some of the other posts on here and I have a few things to say to counter some of the lower ratings. Dependability- Yes you have to be a little bit flexible when working with Mateo. Your patience will likely be rewarded with a more reasonable price than almost all of the competition. If you have an emergency and need it done today, you may have to pay more or use another company. You can have a good price, a quality job, or in a timely manner. Pick two. You usually can't have all three. Negotiations- Some people have mentioned that they feel like they have to haggle with Mateo to get to a price. For example, he may say "How much do you want to pay?" While this may be off-putting to some people, please consider it from a different perspective. There are pretty good margins in most of the tree trimming bids I receive from the competition. Mateo wants to get your business and this is his way of making sure he gets an opportunity to get the job. He could just give you the bid on the very high end like most other companies and hold firm, but instead he is willing to work with you to beat out his competitors. Mateo's guys work hard, do a good job, and are much more reasonable with their pricing than the competition. If you want to pay double or triple just so you can have a company with professional marketing and a native English speaking salesperson, by all means look elsewhere. read more

They even mowed and edged for me just so they could be more thorough with the leaves that were left over. The pricing was fair and they were fast! His associate, Chris, knocked on my door today, said they had been trimming trees in my neighborhood and noticed that the Arizona ash tree in my front yard had branches touching the roof and just generally needed shaping. He asked if I would be interested in having them take care of it. I am generally not a fan of unsolicited services; I like to do a little research and get references, etc. In this case, however, I already knew that I needed to get this work done, and I didn't get any weird, axe-murderer vibes radiating from either gentleman, so I agreed to have them merely trim the branches away from the roof, which they said they would do for $70. It seemed like a reasonable price for the work (I was actually expecting it to be a bit more). I stood outside and watched the whole time, mainly out of curiosity. While Chris was working on the roof, I looked at the ash tree and how much TLC it needed, and thought that I could probably afford to have them shape it, so we negotiated a $150 price for the whole job. Again, I watched the whole time. I thought $150 was a bargain, considering the demanding physical labor and dangerousness of the job (using a chain saw while perched high up in a tree does not appeal to moi). In the end, I told them I would pay them $200 if they would also shape the two small oak trees in the front yard. I probably could have negotiated for a little less, but I felt like I had received a great deal on the ash tree job, and wanted to pay them a reasonable price for their efforts. Both men were very pleasant and efficient (the same was true for Mr. Garcia's younger brother, Luis, who joined the project about three-quarters of the way through), and cleaned up thoroughly after they were done. This is actually the first time I ventured to use Yelp as a reference tool, since I disagree with 99.8% of what Austinites typically like (Sushi, Yoga, Hemp sandals, Skinny jeans, etc). WOW, Matteo and the boys are amazing!!! I spoke to him on a Thursday morning, like other reviews indicated, he requested I text him my address and available times to meet....Here comes the phone tag drama. Nope. He arrived slightly ahead of schedule and wasted no time in assessing the needs we had discussed to where a quote was ready when I arrived a few minutes later. The price was good, not the lowest but certainly not the highest. The selling point was he assured me he would finish the job in one day where all others quoted two days, maybe even two and a half. We set up to have the job done the following week. The next day he called to inform me he had a cancellation and could come out the following morning to get the job down . Perfect. We had plans for Saturday morning already in place so they would not be disturbing any attempt to sleep in, for us at least. The crew arrived while my fiance and I were running errands (as alerted by text message) so we made our way back home soon after to see how things were going (with a 24 pack of water and a bag of ice to keep the guys hydrated). Now I am very particular about cleanliness and organization. So was the crew. No tools strewn out all over the place, no blaring stereo systems, no idle chit chat, these guys were working. Oh, and they already had an ample water supply. D'oh! I was amazed at how quickly the overgrown Possumhaw was cut down, especially since the branches engulfed multiple runs of phone/data lines. The bane of my existence was gone. I finally found one thing I dislike more than hipsters, Possumhaw. Lunch time: One guy from the crew made a run to a local taqueria, while the others cleaned up the back yard. Upon the arrival of the food I offered the guys some habanero and Ghost Chili sauce assuring them it was much better than what the taqueira offered. To test this the let me sample the "hot sauce", meh, it had a little kick. I was asked not to bring out my sauce since no one on the crew could handle the sauce I just swigged down. Boooooo Next on the agenda was some sort of pine tree that was easily 5 feet taller than our two story house. Luis ( I am almost certain this is Matteo's brother) scurried up that tree like the ground was on fire and cut the tree up with surgical precision. Seeing him attack that tree was more awe inspiring than watching a Cirque du Soleil show in Vegas. Yeah, I said it. Round three, some huge deadish tree. Again, it was down before I could return with a case of beer for the guys to savor after a job well done (they like Bud Light, I wrestled it out of Matteo). I cannot say enough about Matteo and his crew. They exceeded my expectations not only in timing and the superb cleanup, but they noticed a large dead tree limb tangled in my neighbor's tree that hung over our driveway and got up there to remove it. Something the neighbors were "gonna get to" for the past three months. These guys are AWESOME!!!! I 100% recommend using Garcia Lawn Care. Reviews from Yelp and other similar services have apparently created a boom in business for Mr. Garcia, and I have to say that it's justified. He was very courteous and very reasonable in his price quote, and he and his workers came out and worked non-stop until everything was completed, even going beyond what was promised. They cleaned out four flower-beds (some large and complicated by old weed barrier material), brought in dirt and spread it all in just a few hours.
