Decor!! Holy wow. I think this is the most festive Mexican restaurant I have ever been too. We stopped here on a very cold rainy day.. but he sun was shining inside! So colorful. Food: the table guacamole has the richness and creaminess one would want from freshly made guacamole. The chips that come with are fried light and crispy and seasoned not too salty. The mole enchilada hits all the flavors one would expect with the darkness of the chocolate and the sweet savory chipotle flavor. The only thing knocking this down a star is the very average carbs (Mexican rice, tortilla used, and refried beans). Solid but uninspiring. I have eaten here a few times and I haven't had any complaints. Today the person greeting us was not friendly at all, there were very few people in the restaurant. There were three of us and our meals did not arrive hot, they were barely room temperature. We thought about having them warmed up, but we were so hungry that we decided not to do that. By the time we got to the end of our meals, they were cold. The food was good, it's too bad it was served almost cold. The service was very good and the place is very nicely laid out. My tortilla soup did not have Mexican seasoning and tasted like an American chicken soup. The avocado and chicken were there but so was celery and no authentic Mexican cook would use celery to start a stock. I was also missing the chili, cumin, oregano that are in most tortilla soups- not worth it. Children's menu as fine but not much detail, like comes with fries, what's in the taco? I had been wanting to try Garcia's, a newer Mexican restaurant in Amherst. So I did! I started with the El presidente margarita with no salt. It came with salt which I wiped off the rim. The margarita was solid. I ordered the Philly rolls as an appetizer, they were super tasty and crunchy and came out quickly. The kitchen may want to work on timing a bit as the main course came out as I was taking the first bite of the appetizer. For my main I ordered the enchiladas de mole which were chicken enchiladas painted with mole accompanied by rice and beans. The mole sauce seemed sparse. Enmoladas are typically cooked in mole, where these definitely were not. I don't think that I'd order this dish again but will definitely be back to try more of their offerings. read more

The place offers spacious colorful open dining areas with booths and tables and 2 long bar counters with flat screen TVs and artwork on the walls. The place is a bit noisy. As for the food, the menu offers the traditional Mexican fare & dishes and mixed drinks, tequilas, margaritas, and beers on tap. The prices are moderate. I stopped in here for a midday dinner and to catch some Sunday football on TV. I was seated at a booth with an open view of the TV over the bar, sound on. Complementary chips and salsa were brought out and the menus are digital via QR code or paper menu is available upon request. The chips were crunchy and the tomato salsa was not spicy, minimal flavor and watery. I ordered an ice water with lemon and the Create Your Own Combo (3 items for $16) served with rice, refried beans & cole slaw, choosing a ground beef chimichanga, chile rellano, and a pork tamale. My entree was served to me in about 10 minutes after ordering, served very hot and the portion size was very generous. As for the entree, the food tasted pretty good and not too spicy. There was enough food for 2 meals and I had to ask for a takeout box to pack the remaining food for later. The check for one was $17.12 before tip. Overall, I like this place since I was able to enjoy a filling meal at a fair price and watch my football team (not New England) win on the TV. This is highly Americanized "Mexican" food, palate-adjusted for northern-tier white people who don't like spice or understand authentic flavors. It's a shame. The beans were the right consistency; rice was not mushy; salsa seemed promising-- but all had zero flavor. The chips are out of a bag. The waitress said the "guacamole dip" on the menu is not made in house and is trucked in from a food service. The table side guac which we opted for instead had nary a jalapeño to be found. I also ordered a Cadillac Margarita which was supposed to have lime juice, tequila, agave, OJ and a splash of Gran Mariner; what I got was an electric lime green concoction that was so full of sickeningly sweet margarita mix I could barely drink it. The tamale (microwaved) was OK. The mini chimichanga that came on the combo plate was the best thing-- but it's hard to mess up ground beef and cheese (no steak here!). The service was nice, it's a festive and fun atmosphere, but the food is just---there. Not offensive, not good, not fresh. I realize a lot of places are cutting corners these days. The Guacamole dip was flavorful, the spinach enchiladas well balanced with queso blanco and tinga tacos with shredded chicken with Chipotle were spicy enough and the contrasting Cabbage mix a nice offset. Been twice - the large, open space with high ceilings and lots of windows is nice. Not totally convinced about the food. Burritos were pretty good but small. Pollo con Arroz was horrible, the Quesadillas were not that much better. They do have some local microbrews and the ambience is nice. Servers are all very friendly! But there are better local options (Mi Tierra, Comalito, Mission Cantina - in that order). My suggestion to the owners would be to really improve the food quality because the large space is quite nice. read more

This is the 2nd time my husband and I have been there and I would recommend for a go-to quick meal. The drinks are great (ask for "less ice") and some items on the menu are better than others, so be sure and ask the staff, who are very friendly and helpful. AND I agree with other Yelpers that it's an Americanized Mexican restaurant, but we love when ANYONE can do a meal better than we can at home. Highly recommend !! Great chips and reasonably priced! Very attentive to allergies. I have celiac and can't eat gluten, and I've never gotten sick from eating off their gluten free menu (I recommend the enchiladas!). Just a heads up that their chips are not gluten free though. Sometimes there is a very friendly mariachi band that will go around and take requests.
