Bueno Y Sano is a well-known employee owned business that has been in Amherst Center for more than 20 years. I have visited many times in the last two, and I am proud to report how delicious the restaurant's foods are, how they have a variety of prices on the menu for any taste, and how their horchata is delicious. First of all, be mindful that there's limited accessibility into Bueno y Sano. There's steps leading up into a dual pull doorways, which is nice and quaint in historic Amherst. Inside, there are also steps leading from the entrance up to the clerks' cash register and kitchen along with salsas, a soda machine, a freezer, and the restrooms. There's still outside dining if you can visit with a friend who can help get your meal inside. The quality is absolutely worth it. Bueno y Sano has likely been around for so long because their meals are consistently bright, rich, and flavorful. Keeping cilantro fresh has been a challenge for me, since I surely could use it more. For Bueno y Sano, they must have some of the freshest vegetables in the valley to consistently cook and serve them tightly wrapped in durable but soft burrito tortillas. There are many other options on the menu if you'd prefer other flavors, too, as I recall an Asian-like burrito on the menu, as well as a beyond-beef grilled burrito. Probably the best Mexican restaurant out there ... UMASS grad started his first restaurant here in Amherst in the 90's and it's still going strong. I've tried the chicken, steak, chipotle pork, spicy bbq pork, but I think the chipotle pork is the best with the spicy bbq pork a close second. And the Thai burrito is really good as well. read more

The only thing that could make Bueno Y Sano better would be for them to open in the Hartford area so I didn't have to drive so far for their amazing food. He seems like a very humble dude and genuinely cares about his customers and employees. The food that is served at Bueno Y Sano is just top tier. I got the smoked brisket burrito and when I had cut it in half, it just looked heavenly. The taste was also amazing and I would definitely get it again. My fish taco was amazing: Crispy on the outside still juicy on the inside. The vegetables were fresh and crisp and the salsa had a nice bite. I've been going to Bueno Y Sano in Amherst since 2014. This is by far one of my dearest memories of the two times I've lived in Amherst and I make it a point to go there every time I'm in mass. When you get there and look at the menu, you might be influenced by your friends to take some of the "Chipotle equivalent" options, like the burrito or a bowl. Don't do that! Go for a nice quesadilla with beans, rice and salsa, instead. Just spread the sour cream next to the beans on the plate (it's nicer to eat there, not to go, trust me) and then proceed to dip the quesadilla into the salsa and the hot sauce. Take a bite and then bring the bean and rice goodness to your palates (remember the sour cream). If this guided routine does not bring you to a moment you might want to revisit for the rest of your life, I owe you a subway sandwich right next door. read more

Bueno Y Sano is a solid go-to when I am in the Amherst area. I love that they offer lots of vegetarian/vegan options, and their grilled bbq seitan is my favorite! Their burritos/bowls are so customizable, there are no limits to the combinations and creative yummy-ness! The staff are friendly, and service is quick. I've started using their app to order ahead, so I can walk in and grab my ready-to-go food. The to-go orders are labeled and you can just grab and go (don't have to wait in line or anything). There is not a lot about Bueno that is dazzling or that you can't get elsewhere, but it's been a local establishment for decades, and it is truly a community business. The food is good, the menu selection allows you to meet all dietary needs (and picky kids), and I love supporting local businesses. I've been eating at Bueno Y Sano for years I always get the chicken burrito bowl and continued to do so because it was made with chicken breast meat. Well recently at the West Springfield location and I don't know if it is the case at the other locations they are now doing a mix of white and dark meat which is mixed together. I absolutely despise dark meat and was told by someone who works there that they cannot be separate. So unfortunately I will not be eating there anymore and must say that this is very disappointing especially considering that they have recently raised their prices while simultaneously lowering the quality of their food!!!!! read more

The burrito lacked the synergy you expect when combining lettuce, pico, with warm chicken, beans and cheese then locking that in a firmly wrapped flour tortilla. You are not missing much here many of my "best thing I ever ate" visits are far from good or they are over priced fancy places we can't even get in to without a tie and jacket! I am biased by going only once but I don't think I'm going back. I told the counter girl it was my first visit and asked what the go to must have it was and she had no clue. When I ordered the chicken Thai peanut sauce burrito asked about the rice and beans "what does it come with"? The answer lead me to believe it was in the side. it wasn't and I also didn't get my roasted Jalepenos which I thought were a side order, nothing is made clear. The chicken was overcooked cubes very dry and kind of sparse there was a ton of rice and no Cilantro. Dude!!! C'mon cilantro ales the burrito and Thai world go round! Overall my meal was a disappointment. The dining room was clean and had plenty of room. There's even a disco ball, go figure.
