New location, but the food and service are soooo much worse. The kids quesadillas were dry and the cheese wasn't melted. We ordered three - all were poorly done. It wasn't a one off mistake. The tamales are gelatinous and gross. They should be steamed. They were boiled. The shrimp fajitas were oily and had tails. Making a fajitas with tail on shrimp was undesirable add the 1/4 C oil and they were just gross. The only thing edible was the potato taquito. Skip it! read more

Food is tasty, but if your order sits for 20 minutes and there's a huge line frustration is the result. The place has tons of college customers. Just not enough workers. Having to bring cold food home a half-hour late inspired me to go out for GREAT food at Paradise of India. Wow!! This place was the spot me and my boyfriend would go on a daily. The mahi mahi tacos are the BEST, likewise the Asada tacos are delicious!! Not to mention the strawberry margaritas are the BEST!! Most definitely a cool vibe because the people that work there are quick and clean! Now that we are back in California I miss the Asada tacos and their salsa bar were you could choice from simple sauce to spicy chipotle sauce!!! This was my favorite restaurant back when it was across from the common. I used to go there three or four times a month. Then they moved to the center of town. Since parking is a nightmare in the center of town, I haven't been to the new location until today. I had a long shift coming up and wanted something familiar to eat. I got two of my favorites, spinach enchiladas and bean tacos. As I pulled it out of the bag, I noticed immediately that there was nothing but beans and cheese on my tacos. They used to come with lettuce, tomato and onion, and I used to be able to add cilantro to my order (I was not offered any of these choices when ordering) My disappointment was palpable. So I put those back in the bag and decided to try my enchiladas. They were so bland! In fact they must be the worst I have ever had! Wow! What have they done? They have destroyed the food in exchange for a larger and less convenient space. I am so very, very disappointed! The only positive thing I can say from this visit is that they were fast. Terrible customer service. I ordered online for pick up. Due to an error, I somehow managed to place my order at the incorrect location despite searching the location I was near and also letting my phone use my location to connect me to the nearest restaurant. I get that it was my error, however what transpired next is what upset me. I will preface this with some personal background. I myself own a food truck, went to culinary school and have worked in customer service for over 30 years. The way I was treated, and lied to, is what has inspired this review. I rarely if ever write poor reviews. I called the restaurant IMMEDIATELY after the order went through and I saw that it was for the wrong location. I asked them if I could cancel it so I could reorder the same thing at the other location. I was told no, because the order was, "Already finished." I have been to this restaurant many times and I can tell you I have never gotten my food in less than 15-20 mins. I called them and was speaking with someone within 2 mins of the order being placed. I called them out on them claiming the order was done and they doubled down the lie that the order was already finished so they could not cancel it: I asked to speak to a manager and was told there was no manager. I asked for a supervisor and was told there wasn't one. I do not accept being lied to and then pushed off. I am a reasonable person and would have understood if there was a legitimate reason they could not cancel the order. Lies and deceit are not the proper way to handle these situations. I will not ever go back out of principle. There are also much better, more authentic Mexican restaurants near me with better service and more consistent quality that I would rather spend my hard earned money at. I seriously doubt there was no manager and if there really wasn't, then they need to train staff better to be able to handle issues. Mediocre food and poor service are not a good combo. read more

We were in Amherst and decided to eat here not knowing anything about the restaurant. My husband and I both ordered enchiladas but different flavors. Mine came out with the wrong type of beans. I asked the staff member that brought our plates if I could just get the side of the correct type of beans I ordered which were refried. Instead, she took the plate and someone in the kitchen scraped the beans off my plate and put them back to be reserved. I have never seen anyone do that from a plate. I am pretty sure that is in a violation of food code and just gross. Also, the same worker was wearing plastic gloves during food prep, but then touched the phone, took an order, touched the cash, register, etc., and did not change gloves after to prepare food. She was the same woman that took the beans and was extremely rude throughout our dining experience there. The Enchiladas mole were probably my least favorite I've ever had. The mole sauce was a bit runny, and had a strong flavor that I believe was cinnamon that overpowered everything else. I'm not certain it was cinnamon, but whatever it was I did not enjoy it at all. My husband had the classic enchiladas and said they were OK. In addition, the beans and rice for my meal were not that hot. My husband also ordered a beer and no one ever brought it to him. He had to get up and remind them and ask for the beer. On the way out, my husband said thank you to the woman that served us and she gave him a snarky smirk. She was rude to the end. This is not a place we will be going back to. There are too many good Mexican restaurants to eat here. read more

Terrible experience the employees at the kitchen don't wear hats and their hair is constantly hanging on top of the food. Also customer service is the worst, they didn't understand what I was ordering. we waited two hours for the food to later find out that the order wasn't right. They called the owner and said they couldn't fix the order. read more

This place has okay food. It's a bit confusing how to order. If you want a side of chips and salsa, it costs six dollars. If you get two steak tacos it's eight dollars. If you want cheese on those steak tacos it's an extra 1.50. If you want sour cream it's an extra $.75. Everything is à la cart so if you don't add any extra things your meal won't be very expensive but if you add anything suddenly what seem like a pretty good deal it's not such a good deal. It's kind of strange to order a taco and all you get on it is the meat. You don't get any tomatoes or lettuce or sour cream or cheese or anything else. All of that comes extra. I ordered avocado guacamole, and the lady was so busy talking and not listening she never added it to the order. When I asked for it they said I hadn't ordered it. Then the lady who had made the tacos shrugged her shoulders and looked away. The salsa at the salsa bar is quite good. The chips were very oily. I think they took them out of the deep fryer and immediately put them in the basket without letting it strain out. This place is fine. The food is sort of OK. This place is super solid. There are not a lot of frills which is perfect and I love the salsa bar. I had grilled cod tacos (tacos de pescado are my fav) and a tecate. 6pm 7/10/21 Went in on a rainy night with a relative and a baby. The cashier was horrific. I like the expression if I could give the place less than an one, I would. No hello, just an angry faced employee. We were asked if we were eating in or out. We elected eating in. Asked for two sets of utensils, handed one set. Face got angrier when we politely reminded her we needed two. Went to get a table, all tables were empty at the time and covered in food. While holding a baby, I asked if the tables could be cleaned. Employee slammed a spray bottle down in front of me, told me "can't you see the table in the center of the room with cleaning supplies." The table had hand sanitizer and brown paper towel. I asked her to clean the table for us. Walking by the place the night before, a Saturday night, patrons were all brought their food that were eating "in" given that little flag pole thing with a number to indicate where you are sitting (so someone can bring you your food). We paid and left a tip upon paying for food, generous tip consider the sheit service. Things only got worse. We were given that little flagpole thing. The angry cashier yells our number. Holding a baby we juggle hot soup, hot plates that are left on the counter for us. Other patrons are brought food to their table. The angry cashier scowls throughout the meal, requested we bus our own table, which we did. The food was good ==will avoid the Amherst location and recommend others avoid it to. If you're out during the day and want nicely cooked, tasty Mexican food and a supermarket to boot and very kind people, I'd go to J and J Brothers Tacos and Market on Russell Street in Hadley (Route 9, on the way to the Bridge to Northampton) in the small plaza on the left. They have some outdoor picnic tables, stools in doors and the workers bring the food out to your car as well. (Smiling, friendly, happy, kind). Manager of LaVeraCruzana Amherst, identify your staff working this night at 6pm who was taking orders, take them aside and quickly reorient them to their job, customer service, being friendly, cleaning tables and bringing food out to everyone. Whether it was having a baby with us (a giggling quiet one) or being a mixed race family (yes that needs to be brought up) baffles us but this was the rudest cashier we'd encountered in a long time. Could not have been more disappointed by the quality of food and service at La Veracruzana. We were not greeted when when we entered and seemed to be bothering the staff to place an order. We sat outside and has no idea our food was ready so they just left it on the counter instead of letting us know it was ready. The dining area was dirty with food on the floor and sticky tables that are obviously not cleaned between patrons. The Burrito Especial was bland. The Mahai Tacos were also bland and over cooked. La Veracruzana is a great stop for authentic Mexican grub. The nachos (aka chips) are fresh with a nice assortment of salsa to choose from. I recommend starting with the fish tacos before being adventurous with the menu. The staff are friendly. I went here and ordered pupusas and el plato del mar y tierra BUT the bald guy said he could only do one or the other (strange) but I ordered the pupusas with pork [[cerdo]] which was delicious! The outside was delicately crisp and hot while the meat inside was also hot and well seasoned. The coleslaw that came with the pupusas was WAYYY too strong for me. I think the ginger they added to the sauce kicked me in my mouth because it was way strong and mayonnaise-less. But a nice twist on coleslaw, just didn't really cater to my food palate. I also ordered the Enchilada Suizas with Chicken ($2.00) more, and was somewhat disappointed. The rice and beans weren't hot. They weren't even warm. The enchiladas weren't warm either, and the cheese sauce on top made me think they borrowed this from a 7-Eleven or Cumby's. The chicken inside the enchilada was wayyy too salty for my taste! The pupusas were pretty good, but I would not recommend the enchiladas. I also got a Jarrito Mandarin (it's like a hispanic orange soda), and that sh!t cost me $3.00!!! WHAAAAAT?!?!?!? I live in Boston, and I have no idea what brought us to Amherst last weekend, but suddenly we found ourselves in the middle of the mountains with an unrivaled hunger. We figured it would be best to find the university, because there would definitely be food where there are thousands of college kids. We came across La Veracruzana, and were pleasantly surprised. I come from Texas, and have grown up with TexMex my whole life, which I think almost puts me at a disadvantage to enjoy any other Mexican-style food. Veracruz is a coastal city in Mexico - so I expected fresh ingredients, a lot of fish, and as always, plantains. This place is as close to authentic as I have had in New England since I moved here 7 years ago. I had the mahi-mahi fish tacos, which were topped with avocado, cabbage, and cilantro. Cool, crisp, delicious. We got a side of the guacamole, and it was absolutely fantastic. My favorite thing, however, was the platanos fritos (fried plantains) - which were warm on a very cold day, perfectly seasoned, and not too sweet. We hopped back in the car and headed back to the city with happy, full stomachs. Definitely worth another trip next time we find ourselves out West. read more

Every time I come in here I'm disappointed. The staff is extremely rude. I came in for a margarita and it was much smaller than my friends. I asked why it was in a small glass, and the bar back told me "It has real strawberries, that's the f'ing difference". The first few times I ate here I was not impressed. The burritos aren't all that tasty and the fish tacos could use more fish. But! The pupusas ($5) I had on Friday were delicious! Way better than El Guanaco's out in S. Hadley (although a bit pricier, I think) and La Veracruzana had run out of the pork ones :( But the bean and cheese pupusas were still large, crispy and cheesy. The fried fish torta ($7.50) was lacking in fish and a bit overpowered by everything else on the torta. Then we got the queso fundido ($5) which came out hot and bubbly. The bf and I spooned up every bite with our tortillas, cheese dripping down our chins. I don't know if they put butter in it but it tasted like the most awesome blend of cheese and butter imaginable. Anyway, La Veracruzana is a bit overpriced and a lot of what I've had before have been so-so but I'd go back for the pupusas and queso fundido when I'm craving some cheese :) read more

We were a party of 4. We were there for lunch and there were seats outside for us to sit. There's no table service you order your food and sit wherever you want. The girl at the register was super nice. I checked in and got 3 free cheese quesadillas which is something for free better than nothing. Their margaritas are $6 but strong and amazing. They also have beers and other drinks. Food was great and prices were reasonable. You bring the plates back after you're done eating. Overall good food and great summer experience. read more

I got the taquitos once and they were honestly terrible, 1 star (I'm not a taquito guy anyway) but the burritos are so tasty this is still a 5 star review. Their drinks are pricy, but if you're going to buy a drink anywhere buy it here. Get a Horchata for a nonalcoholic option and get a pina colada as an alcoholic option.
