My wife and I stayed at South Cliff Inn this past week, to visit the local wineries and go to the shops in nearby South Haven and Holland. This was, without question, the best Bed & Breakfast experience we've ever had. The property itself is situated right on Lake Michigan on Lake Shore Drive in St. Joseph, and it's been a B&B for several decades. The rooms are nicely furnished, and the view from the deck facing the lake is priceless. However, what makes South Cliff Inn truly spectacular are the owners. You will not find better hosts than Daniel and Allison. Their attention to detail and their personal touch are almost from a different era, and they are singularly focused on providing a memorable experience for every guest. When staying here, it doesn't take long before you realize that nearly every other guest (all week) is a repeat customer. Several of the other guests we met have been coming here for 20+ years, and that speaks volumes. We're already planning our next visit. read more

Our stay at South Cliff Inn was lovely. When we arrived, we were greeted by the gracious hosts, Allison and Daniel. Their warm hospitality and attention to detail truly set this place apart. They clearly have a passion for what they do, and it shines through in every aspect of South Cliff Inn. The views from the property are absolutely wonderful. Whether you're enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning on the deck or watching the sunset in the evening, the peaceful view of Lake Michigan is priceless. The rooms are cozy and comfortable -- beds are comfortable; private bath with jetted tub; everything was impeccably clean. They also provide wine/cheese/snacks at 4pm every day and sparkling waters & coffee/tea are always available. Every little touch shows the care and consideration the hosts have put into creating a relaxing and comfortable environment for their guests. Breakfast was another highlight - delicious and varied each morning; hearty and beautifully presented. Attention was given to dietary restrictions. We cannot recommend South Cliff Inn enough for anyone looking for a peaceful getaway with top-notch service and incredible views. We'll hope to return soon! read more

Yearning for a vacation and break from the city life of Chicago, my partner and I decided on taking a long weekend trip to St. Joseph. Once St. Joe's was decided on, we were in search of somewhere to stay. We stumbled upon this Inn and the rest is history. We arrived at promptly 3pm EST and were greeted by one of the hosts, Will, who was kind, funny, and welcoming. We opted for one of the cheaper rooms, which did the trick. Next time we may splurge on a lakeview room, but honestly all of the available outdoor (and indoor) lakefront seating made up for what our room was lacking. The biggest selling point of this Inn vs others in the area is the outdoor space directly overlooking Lake Michigan. The space is picturesque with beautifully maintained landscaping. It feels like you are in a magical garden vs someone's back patio. With lots of seating available to guests, there is never a time when you have to "fight" for a spot. The lake front views are beautiful and breathtaking all day long, but particularly in the early morning enjoying a cup of coffee (provided by Inn) or at night enjoying a glass of wine at sunset. The Inn itself, while on the older side, and could stand for some updates, is cozy and quaint. The imperfections of the Inn make it what it is. You feel more at home here than you would in a sterile hotel. The home is clean with cute "lake decor" which makes you feel welcome. And finally, the breakfast part of the b&b... how could we forget. Every morning Will cooked up a tasty spread of homemade delights for Inn guests to enjoy. While we were there, a sweet and savory casserole, sausage links, bread, and fruit were offered to guests which could be enjoyed lakefront or inside. This meal was a great way each day to start our day. Overall, our time in St. Joseph was great, but staying at this Inn made it wonderful. Having a "home base" as comfortable and relaxing as South Cliff made all the difference. Not to mention the proximity to all the main attractions (downtown 3 min drive, 15 min walk to beach, wineries 20 mins away). Everything about this Inn exceeded our expectations. Very welcoming Bed N Breakfast! Wilfredo the owner was very friendly and accommodating. The home is very clean with a welcoming atmosphere! Breakfast is good, an casserole was made both days once with veggies and the next day with eggs and meat. Wilfredo will accommodate you if your not a meat eater. Delicious fresh coffee made every morning beats the coffee Keurig cups that's in the rooms. The location is great, close to restaurants and grocery stores. Felt safe and comfortable and also felt at home. The showers has a Prefilled dispenser of shampoo etc... so bring your own if your picky like me. Bed and Breakfast with Lake Michigan views and a coastal vibe is the best way to sum up South Cliff Inn. We stayed in August 2019 and was in town for a concert. We wanted to treat ourselves to a different type of lodging and found South Cliff Inn. New owners took over in 2018 - we met Will almost upon check-in but never met his wife. Will was very kind and welcoming. He even accommodated our early schedule when we left the inn. We had to leave before breakfast was served but Will was so nice to get up a bit early and provide us with a nice continental spread. Very good cook as well - compliments to the chef! Checked in without issue - a little after 3p. Told when breakfast is served in addition to happy hour. Showed around the living room, dining room, and breakfast area. The home is adorable and I appreciated all the historical elements. We also enjoying looking through the pictures of how the inn came to be and built. Felt fresh and light - all the themes to the coast was also cute. Then we made our way to our room. We stayed in the Manor Room and it is the cheapest room there is and I can tell why. Very small quarters with slanted ceilings. A tiny little window that faces the side of the house near the road - no lake front view. The bathroom was super small - move a foot to the left and foot to the right and that is about it. The vanity was very low and it was difficult to wash your face. Bathroom was disappointing and it felt old and dingy. Showers taken at night with cold water, water never got hot. The room was clean and had a queen bed along with a futon and TV. Also a lack of electrical sockets - one barely would hold plugs and the other was to the right of the bed. Had to unplug the lamps in order to charge our phones. Turn down service was unexpected but very nice. I felt the price we paid for the room we had was a little steep - I get summer is the busy season and when most money is made for the year. But I am not sure if the room/bathroom amenities matched up with the price of the room. Regarding the food/beverage - We never got those mouthwatering cake balls from a local baker that their website promises. But we were treated to happy hour which included wine/cheese/crackers and a few other goodies. Breakfast was self-serve and included: fruit, waffles, toast, egg bake casserole, sausage, blueberry Dutch baby, coffee, and juice. Excellent spread and a satisfying way to start the day! Fun music was playing while we enjoyed our breakfast - the dining room has perfect views of the backyard. The best part of the Inn is the backyard - the front yard is all road but the backyard is what really sold us. Tranquil gardens, a hot tub, and a perfect view of Lake Michigan. We could have stayed on the landing overlooking Lake Michigan for hours in the nice/warm sun. I also met a sweet kitty friend who stayed with us a bit enjoying the sun and some snuggles. We also enjoyed all the plants and succulents that were planted throughout. Stunning! There are no beach spots and the views of the lake are from a high elevation - you can see downtown St. Joseph from the landing. read more

My family of five just returned from a lovely stay at the South Cliff Inn! We stayed in two rooms, one of which faced the lake. The morning and sunrise views of the lake were beautiful! We enjoyed several sunsets from our private deck or the hot tub.  Wilfredo the owner made excellent breakfasts every day. Each day there was a perfect mix of sweet and savory options. Very special attention was given to sanitizing and masking. We felt very safe! One night we had dinner on the deck and Wil surprise us with a beautiful cake for our daughter. He really went above and beyond to make this a great vacation.  The garden is beautifully landscaped and you can occasionally see and pet Frank - a giant but incredibly sweet cat. :) Lions beach is walking distance. Silver Beach and a cute downtown are a few minute drive away.  Overall loved the charm and location of this B&B and we can't wait to return! read more

Loved our stay at the Inn. The owners were very accommodating from loaning us beach chairs, allowing us to check in early, and always being very responsive. Hands down one of the best B&B's I've ever had the pleasure of staying in. Unfortunately, I was only able to stay here 1 night for my girlfriend's birthday, but we made the most of it. Wilfredo was so welcoming and exhibits first rate hospitality. He arranged and surprised my girlfriend with a dozen roses and even a birthday cake! They've renovated their B&B and it really does have that coastal vibe to it. The views are stunning. We didn't feel like leaving the grounds to explore St. Joseph because of how amazing everything was from the room, deck, fireplace, jacuzzi, everything! We will definitely be back! read more

This place was really great in both hospitality and location. Two beaches are nearby which makes it nice to have variety in which one you end up wanting to go to. The owners are very friendly and will accommodate to requests within reason and have recently fixed their hot tub outside so the yard is even more enjoyable with the views and the size. Seemed nice and I wanted to book a reservation but I have a service animal and that was an issue because they don't allow dogs--mind you, this is a legit service animal for a disability. They said it was because they had their own pets on the premises. Ridiculous. read more

A little side trip from Chicago led us here to South Cliff overlooking Lake Michigan. Wow, what a lovely place! So quaint; nice furnishings; comfy bed. Hubby and I stayed in the Study, which had a balcony overlooking the gardens and lake, and it was the perfect choice. I did see the Morning Room entrance was right by the front door/entrance and the Harbor Room is right in the dining room, so those might be noisier/less private with the sounds of people coming in and out. The Study is on the second floor and great location if you ask me. Breakfast is at 9 in the dining room. We had a wonderful meal of chocolate bread pudding, eggs verde, sausage, fruit and pecan rum coffee cake. All fabulous! The drive into the main part of town is very close, maybe a mile or two? The backyard and patio area is absolutely beautiful, with seating areas close to the edge of the cliff that overlooks the beach/water. A very peaceful home away from home! read more

South Cliff inn was my wife and I's first bed and breakfast ever. I have always been turned off on the idea of a bed and Breakfast, but from the first moment I talked to Brandy and Will on the phone, they did everything to change my mind. When we arrived, Will and Brandy welcomes us with a happy hour snack and glass of wine. We were given a tour and and shown to our room where Will spared no time and effort in making our room fee like a home away from home. He even accomplished every little detail I had asked for in the room upon arrival (birthday cake, personalized bottle of wine, rose petals, lavender bubble bath, etc). Breakfast was amazing each morning we stayed and the view of the lake was spectacular from the window of the dining room. I can't recommend Will and Brandy enough. There are many places to stay in southwest Michigan, and I can't say enough good things about our stay at the South Cliff Inn! Let me tell you...it's WORTH IT to try a B&B vs. a typical hotel. We booked a last minute trip to St. Joseph, and stayed Monday-Thursday. We loved many aspects of the Inn, but one of our favorites was the backyard area. A private deck with a beautiful view of the Michigan Lake. Each night we sat out with some wine and watched the sunset. There are a variety of rooms available with different price ranges. We stayed in "The Manor" which was one of the smaller rooms, but it fit our needs. Breakfast deserves another 5 star review. Each morning a buffet of yummy goodness was served to us and never disappoints! There was also wine and cheese tastings daily at 5 pm, and we were able to catch one of those nights. Such a nice touch! I would completely recommend staying at the South Cliff Inn if you are thinking about trying a bed and breakfast! read more

Superb! My husband and I just returned from a wonderful stay at South Cliff Inn, where new owner, Daniel and Alison did everything to make it memorable. They live onsite with their family so they were always available - but not underfoot.We stayed in "The Study" room which was well-appointed. Everything you need; including a jacuzzi tub, comfortable bed, fireplace, and a private balcony with spectacular views. Alison's breakfasts were always delicious. She also provided late afternoon wine with snacks. The spectacular sunsets of Lake Michigan can also be enjoyed on the comfortable deck or other seating areas of the lawn. What a gorgeous B&B, inside and out. Since it's situated on the lake side, the edge of the property ends at a cliff (duh!) with an unobstructed view of Lake Michigan. There's a small deck there with a few lounge chairs, perfect for your morning coffee or glass of wine in the evening. Bill was a wonderful Innkeeper and served an amazing breakfast. We met a couple who has stayed there for their vacation 10 years in a row. The Admiral Suite was a beautiful and cozy suite. The living room was very cozy and has a fireplace, the bathroom has a separate jacuzzi and walk in shower and it's carpeted. My favorite room is the bedroom. It's not big, but it has blackout curtains. The mirrored closets were a little strange, but that can be easily overlooked since it had blackout curtains. I do hope to stay there again the next time my husband and I go to Saint Joseph (if we're going by ourselves). :-) I highly recommend it. read more

Each one is sweeter than the next, and they're home to bed & breakfasts, breweries, and quaint downtowns. We had a wedding in St Joseph which is also known as the most romantic town in Pure Michigan, so as you can imagine, expectations were high. The South Cliff Inn charmed me from the moment we pulled up to the lot; it's everything that makes b & b's such fun places to stay. The innkeepers are welcoming & friendly, the place is cozy & quiet, the views are insanely beautiful and the home-made breakfast was fabulous. My only regret is we couldn't partake in their wine & cheese happy hour...next time! This place inspired a great blog post. read more

My fiancee and I called to inquire about availability for our upcoming wedding in October. Luckily there were no openings, because never had we experienced such rude customer service in simply asking a few questions. Upon answering the phone, the service desk couldn't have sounded less thrilled to do so. No "good afternoon", "thank you for calling", or "congratulations on your upcoming celebration." Merely, "hold on." When she came back to the phone to tell us there was no availability ("we're booked."), we kindly informed her that the website listed a few open rooms for the dates we specified. She responded with one word: "Ok." No, "thank you for letting us know", "sorry about the misinformation", or even a "good luck with your search." So completely rude, and we're glad we won't be staying there. read more

What a serene place! It is as if I walked into a dream- a flower-lined path that leads to a cliff with a orange sunset, right at your finger tips. The view and peace was priceless. Will brings his Latin flavor to the beachy lakeside bed and breakfast, which was so perfect for us! Will made us feel completely at home, and his warmth made the experience that much more personalized and special. And his breakfast is fabulous! My husband Raul and I came to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. The town was sweet, quaint, and lovely. We enjoyed all of the food and restaurants we visited. The beach was a lot of fun, we even went paddle boarding. All of this and even wine tasting on our 3 night visit. The hot tub in the morning or evening is such a treat. This was our second time staying here. The first visit was a post-baby night away to relax. We were greeted with Happy Hour drinks and a special dinner; the evening ended with Champagne and a drawn bubble bath in our room. It was so relaxing. This second visit was to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary. We had Champagne on the deck over looking Lake Michigan. It was perfect weather and the company was so enjoyable that we decided to skip going out to dinner and just ordered in pizza from Silver Beach Pizza. And as always we woke up to a wonderful spread of eggs, pastries, fruit, coffee and much more for breakfast. Will and Brandy are wonderful hosts with huge hearts. This place is great! We stayed here while in town for a wedding. The couple rented all the rooms for a small group of friends. The rooms were all very different, but cute in their own way. One of the best parts was the breakfast. Bill made two amazing meals for the group to enjoy on the beautiful back deck overlooking Lake Michigan. It was close to everything and had a very relaxing feel. We got the first room by the door which was a little small and seemed exposed, but it was still a good experience at this cute B&B.
