Pampered is an Understatement! From the moment we arrived we felt indulged . . . we were greeted with fresh, gooey chocolate chips cookies and homemade lemonade on the beautiful front porch. The towel, robes, shampoo/soap, bathrooms -- were superior to those found at the high end resorts at which we've stayed! The bed and pillows -- wow! Slept better at Duncan House than I often do at home (which honestly, surprised me). The food was unbelievable! A gourmet delight to all the senses! Plated beautifully and delicious! We were treated to freshly ground coffee; the best croissants I've ever had (homemade that morning); a scrumptious latke made with root vegetables; a greek yogurt parfait with fresh berries; a jelly bar of homemade violet, strawberry, and rhubarb jams (wish I could have purchased a jar of the violet and rhubarb) served with freshly baked tostini; and an assortment of fresh juices. The hosts Nita and Andy far exceeded our expectations in everything!! This new little B & B is without a doubt our now "first choice" for lodging in St. Joseph! The nerd in me loved all the hidden availability to technology. We were provided a unique entry code to the front door and our room allowing us to come and go as we pleased. There were usb charging ports in the outlets beside the beds (a table on each side of the bed), and the wifi was fast and easy to access. We felt extremely secure and connected. (We also very much appreciated the window air conditioner in the upstairs bedroom. We were able to cool the room to our liking and the quiet white noise lulled us to sleep.) Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer. There were a variety of games available in our sitting room and a very private hot tub in the courtyard that we ran out of time to use (just too much to do). We did get a chance, however, to walk to and enjoy some of the downtown amenities. Walked to dinner in a newly opened brew pub (food was delicious there, too -- would highly recommend Silver Harbor Brewing Company). Bicycled to Jean Klock and Rocky Gaps beaches (and could have easily walked to Lions Beach and Silver Beach). There is an art museum a couple blocks away, too, along with all kinds of other little shops and restaurants -- all walkable! (St. Joe, not St. Joes by the way, is the best little find in Southwest Michigan.) Duncan House is a great place to celebrate an anniversary -- very, very special experience! read more

I would highly, highly recommend the Duncan House in St Joe. It was so relaxing and the entire atmosphere was so welcoming. The innkeepers, Andy and Nita were able to recommend local activities and places to eat. There's only 2 rooms, which makes it feel cozy and that you are a priority. We stayed in the Michigan room, which was on the first floor -- it had a queen bed, that was heaven to sleep on. It's an older home, which is part of its charm, but completely remodeled. The shower and bathtub were amazing with so many jets. The room upstairs, called the Beach Escape, is more of a suite with a separate sitting room, bedroom with queen bed, and bathroom. There's a 2-person hot tub that you can sign up to use, which was a great way to end the day. There was also a quaint front porch with a relaxing sitting area and a really nice backyard area to enjoy as well. You cannot beat the location. There's private parking -- once we arrived, we were able to walk to everything. It's about a 10 min walk to downtown, which has restaurants, a few wineries, and many cute shops. The beach is also walking distance - either 5-10 mins. We wanted to go to the less populated beach, so we walked a little farther. The food was the best part -- everything was homemade and/or made from scratch with a lot of local ingredients. When we arrived, there were freshly made croissants, chocolate chip cookies, fresh squeezed lemonade, and local wine! The yogurt parfait each morning was fantastic with local granola and fresh fruit. All of the food was so delicious! Andy and Nita, were great hosts, and we felt like friends after only a short weekend. I cannot say enough good things about this place. If I ever find myself in the St Joe area in the future, I will definitely be staying at The Duncan House again. read more

We had the pleasure of staying two nights at The Duncan House. We had both rooms so the entire house was ours and Andy made every bit of the weekend pure perfection. We were greeted each afternoon with fresh cookies, wine and fresh Lemonade. I would suggest this B&B to ALL of my friends and we will certainly return! Andy (the owner, fabulous cook and master story teller) is a real gem! He is full of helpful information and makes you feel right at home. His restoration of this historical home is spot on! He has maintained the historical integrity while appointing the home with every modern convenience you want (Apple TV, keyless/code entry, high end showers...). The home is impeccably clean and all bedding/linens are fresh and crisp (which can be a problem at other b&b's- but certainly not here). The breakfasts are full blown gourmet culinary events. Come hungry- honestly BETTER than our favorite brunch spots in Chicago!! Andy locally sources many of his ingredients and incorporates old family recipes....you can genuinely taste the love in his food. Andy even made a special cake for my mother on her birthday. Yummy!!! He has sense shared several recipes with my mother and even Gabe her a quick baking lesson. I'm not easy to please, I am very particular- The Duncan House made me beyond happy!!! Our stay at the Duncan House was incredible. When we arrived, we were greeted by the innkeepers, Andy and Nita, and given a tour of the property. The landscaping was beautiful and the interior was spotless. We stayed in the Michigan room and all of the decorations added to the experience. The four-post queen size bed was extremely comfortable with an ample assortment of pillows so you are sure to find the one that meets your needs. The attached bathroom and closet were amply sized and the multi-jetted tub/shower was great way to begin and end the day. The breakfasts were incredible. My favorite was the yogurt with fruit parfait, homemade cinnamon rolls, blue cheese, sweet pepper omelet and toast from homemade bread with butter and jam. Andy prepared the meal and gave us more information about the history of the house and St. Joseph. The B&B is located on a tree-lined street within easy walking distance to St. Joseph's downtown area as well as two beaches, Lion's and Silver Beach. The porch is a nice place to sit, relax, and enjoy cookies and fresh squeezed lemonade. It was a great first experience staying at a B&B. We will recommend this place to all our friends and definitely plan to stay here again. read more

The Duncan House Bed and Breakfast is absolutely wonderful! My boyfriend and I wanted something special for our Valentines weekend and thought a B&B would be great. We had never stayed at one so we were unsure what to expect. Needless to say, The Duncan House was absolutely amazing! From the moment we walked in we were welcomed with warm homemade, from scratch chocolate chip cookies with bottles of local wine to the last morning we spent eating fresh biscuits and gravy; it was beyond anything we could have hoped for. Andy was a wealth of information regarding the town and great places to eat, visit and shop at. We both felt very safe throughout our stay with private codes to be able to access our rooms and the front door. Our room and bathroom were cleaned daily and Andy made it even more special by leaving little treats for us in the room. It was nice that the suite upstairs also had a sitting room with a mini fridge so we could put our leftovers in. Overall, the Duncan House was beyond fabulous and we will definitely be coming back! If you're going to be staying in St Joseph, you have to stay at the Duncan House! read more

This is probably my favorite bed and breakfast I have ever stayed at. It outshines others in so many ways. The host pampers guests to the point that we began to feel like family. Andy has to be the most caring and accommodating individual I've ever met traveling...and we have done a lot of traveling. If you are looking for the best experience in St. Joseph, stay at the Duncan House. Andy will ensure to make your trip as comfortable as accommodating as possible. Every morning the breakfast was fresh, made with love and gourmet. Every evening we had made from scratch sweets and local wines to taste. Andy is always there to help and converse, but not overbearing or pushy. This trip was exactly what we needed and Andy's attention to detail was spot on. You won't regret booking this place! I visited the Duncan House by myself recently, to have some quiet, and this beautiful place and kind, good-hearted hosts simply soothed my soul. Andy's enthusiasm for this place is infectious - he told great stories about the town history, fixing up the house, and more. I had wanted to go for a walk on a beach, and he made recommendations, drew me a map, and picked me up when my walk was over with hot cocoa! He's also an amazing cook, and the breakfasts were beyond delicious (those scones!), with incredibly thoughtful touches like warming up a mug before putting coffee in it. The bed and pillows were dreamy soft, the hot tub delightful, and everything was impeccably clean. The location couldn't be better, right by town, and Andy picked me up from the Amtrak station. My wife and I just had the most outstanding B&B experience of our lives. The Duncan House is a real gem in southwest Michigan. Our hosts, Andy and Nita, are very knowledgable about the St. Joseph area. From great tips on running routes to the best beaches and even fishing tips, they really gave us an insiders view of the area.Their B&B is immaculate and comfortably appointed. The beds were luxurious, the rooms quiet (we shared the house with another guest), the entire home and yard are set up for relaxing. The experience was topped off by Andy's excellent culinary skills. Our breakfasts were superb. Homemade jams and freshly baked bread, amazing gourmet omlets and freshly squeezed juice! Andy is a master in the kitchen and an easy conversationalist. We stayed at The Duncan House and had such a great time! The owners are friendly and so accommodating. The house has a wonderful porch perfect for relaxing and reading. The back yard has a cute garden and lounge chairs complete with a hot tub. We took many walks around the neighborhood where you will find many other historic homes to admire. The Duncan house was a short walk to restaurants and the beach. The interior of the home is beautiful and cozy. Our room was clean and comfortable. We were greeted with delicious cookies and wine to enjoy. The breakfast in the morning was delicious and presented beautifully. We would definitely come back to stay! What a great place to rest and recharge. A beautiful front porch on a quiet street, beautiful historic homes and Lake Michigan nearby providing a cool breeze making a wonderful relaxing setting. We loved everything about Duncan House!! My husband and I stayed there for a couple of days while in town to enjoy St. Joe and the beach, and we will certainly be back next year! Andrew and his wife were excellent hosts, the inn and our room were beautifully decorated, and the snacks and breakfast served were made from scratch and delicious.
