For all those looking for authentic food, as if you have been invited into someone's home, supporting a small and local business that locals LOVE. You found it. Just please be patient! For all others looking for an authentic experience but EXPECTING big box restaurant service. Go to the big box. Delicious food.

I wish we had read ALL of the reviews before trying the Garden. It seems like you've got a 50-50 chance of having either a delightful Middle Eastern dinner, or a disastrous, prolonged, frustrating night. We lost the bet. Our waiter was flustered and inexperienced. The "bartender" spent the 2 1/2 hours we were there helping himself to random glasses of wine from the bar, and even other guests' bottles and chatting up locals. The owner/hostess was lovely upon arrival, but then disappeared into the kitchen. It took hours to get our food -- we were there after closing waiting! I wouldn't take the chance again. So disappointed. (Oh, and the outdoor garden is starting to look like a junkyard. Should have been a sign.)

Goat chèvre pizza (small), vegetarian sampler plate with pita, and falafel

First time here and I was sooo impressed. Dreaming of going back! The food here is insanely flavorful and the ingredients all taste super fresh. Every item we ordered had a perfect balance of spices and you could just taste that everything is made to order. I am a falafel addict and I adooored the falafel and tahini dip. We also tried the goat chèvre pizza which was out of this world, super fluffy dough but also crisp crust (small size is more than enough!). The vegetarian dips plate is worth a try as well because it gives you a taste of everything. The owner Naheda was who served us and she was so incredible kind and made our dinner that much more personal and memorable. Can't wait to have dinner here again!

Wonderful food. Authentic. Takes time to prepare, but everything we took was simply great. We were two families and were really surprised to find this variety and quality in Rosendale. Nahida is a great and generous host. We will make the drive and come again.

Stuffed grape leaves. Leaves were picked from owners garden in the summer.

What a wonderful find this was. If you want authentic Mediterranean food this is a place to come. We started out with grape leaves. They were rolled and covered in lemon, oil & mint. These were over a bed of chopped salad. Last time I tasted something like this was when my wife's Syrian Grandmother made them. We then had gluten free cheese pizza and a whole sea bass wood fired grilled on a platter. A little slow due to COVID but this place is a Mediterranean food treasure tucked in Rosendale, NY. Cash only but clearly spelled out when you walk in.

    Eating in the garden!

The owner, Sal, came over to our table while we scanned the menus and introduced himself. He gave us a complimentary taco each and said "these are the best tacos you've ever had." I loved the confidence and I loved that he was right. It was love at first bite. We ordered a quesadilla, a chicken salad, a plate of fries, more tacos and a gyro (assuming we would be taking most of it home and eating it for dinner over the week) The quesadilla & gyro were delicious and fresh. They were still tasty as leftovers 2 days later. I wasn't crazy about the salad but that's probably my fault. Ya Hala does comfort junk food - this is not the time to be calorie-conscious. Sal checked in on us a number of times while we were eating. The restaurant is a small hole-in-the-wall with a few booths and a bathroom. I assume most of their business comes from people doing take out at the end of their work day. If I lived or worked closer, I would be a regular customer here. In the end, Sal packed our food in to-go boxes and gave us a free gyro as a surprise. At some point during dinner, my husband mentioned I was Yelp Elite. In the interest of full disclosure, at no point did Sal ask me to leave a favorable review or use his free food as a bargaining chip. This review is done without taking the free gyro into consideration.

I'd been dying to finally try their renowned Palestinian food. I came on a Friday night, and the restaurant was packed with families and large parties. They even offer valet parking--which tells you something about how popular this place is. And forget paying extra for bread. They start you off with a whole basket of 4-5 pieces of soft, house-made pita, along with pickled vegetables. The menu has both small plates (hot and cold mezze) and entrees, but we really wanted to sample as much as possible, so we went with the small plates. We ordered the fried cauliflower, fried cheese, lamb and beef sausage, and falafel. Everything was truly incredible, and the portions were very generous. The cauliflower was a little oily, but that's to be expected with fried cauliflower. It still had an amazing crunch, and they brought us complimentary toum and hummus for dipping, which was such a nice touch. The fried cheese was incredibly fresh and crispy with a light saltiness that made it hard to stop eating. But the falafel was the star for me--and probably the best I've ever had. Falafel usually isn't something I order first; I'm pretty take-it-or-leave-it about it. But these completely changed my mind. They're longer and more oblong than the usual round falafel, and the texture and flavor were fantastic. The lamb sausage was also really good. The only item that felt just okay compared with everything else was the beef sausage. On the drinks front, they don't have fountain drinks--only Boylan sodas. Sadly, no Diet Coke, but that was a very minor point. The service was amazing all night, and between the generous portions and all the different plates, we had plenty of leftovers to take home. They also have a smaller takeout location very close by if you can't get a reservation at the main restaurant. Overall: Al Basha absolutely lived up to the hype. Incredible Palestinian food, generous portions, warm service, and some seriously memorable falafel. Definitely worth the trip to Paterson.
