I can only guess that BEAST doesn't want the business. Again, this was during the afternoon on one of the busiest BBQ days of the year. I.E. This wasn't some slow, late, and empty night. It was a sunny afternoon, and Fishkill's Main Street was hopping and vibrant. The staff did allow us to eat our meal, though, and didn't kick us out, but they were itching to close up shop. I guess they all have better things to be doing. (?) The food was, well, "okay" but overly pricey. The smoked wings are good here. I'll give them that. I would only get those if I ever came again (though the blue cheese dressing was weak). The other food (brisket, sausage, and mac n' cheese) was not poor, but it was also not memorable. Maybe a "C" grade all around? It's a neat spot for drinks (good spirits selection) and wings if you're in the neighborhood and they're open. But double-check their hours before heading out.

Unfortunately, since the business got sold and had a change in owners, things have gone downhill big time. The sausages are far from what they used to be. Casings are not properly closed, they don't taste the same and their Wienerle look wrinkly and outright unappetizing + they are oversmoked. Very sad to see an institution go downhill and change that quickly from being an authentic German butcher to being a subpar spot that has none of the craftsmanship and quality that they used to have. Okay, I'm weird. I…read morelove BBQ, but don't like barbecue sauce. I love hot and spicy, but don't like peppers. All that aside, given that I order weirdly when I eat barbecue, here's what I can say: RIBS. Ribs, ribs, ribs. I didn't add any sauce (see above), but they don't need it! The chicken is also flavorful, but I think it got a little dry (this is on me; I did take out instead of eating there), so would definitely recommend using sauce with that. I didn't have the brisket yet, but others in my family have had it and really liked it. LOVE their corn bread. Their potato salad is different from any other I've had; it took me a minute and then grew on me. The mac 'n cheese is kind of like if you've ever been in the south and had pimento cheese sandwiches, but melted and poured over macaroni. Everything has a kick, which I really appreciated it -- enough to get me to pay attention, but not so much as to be unpleasant. Definitely plan on returning -- folks are super nice there, too.

They make their own whitefish salad, smoked tuna salad, cream cheeses and other delicacies. The employees are friendly and are experts in slicing the fish. I'm a regular customer for a few years, came from Brooklyn, and the smoked fish here is as good if not better than in old Brooklyn.
