Okay so we swing by Sultan's on a road trip home from the Culinary Institute of America. While the students there are clearly working hard, it was refreshing to stop here and eat dishes made with love. These are well prepared, well presented family favorites. It was so good that we just kept ordering more to try different dishes. It's pristine inside and clearly beloved by the locals, and the service is attentive and fast. It's close enough to the highway that I will 100% stop here on a future road trip.

Feast mode at Sultan's Diner -- rich lentil soup, smoky ganush, and a killer mixed grill (Adana + chicken kebab ). Every bite was on point!" "From creamy lentil soup to perfectly grilled Adana & chicken kebabs -- Sultan's Diner nailed it. Authentic, flavorful, and served with a smile " "Turkish comfort food done right at Sultan's Diner. That lentil soup? So warm and hearty. Kebabs? Absolute fire " But the highlight? Genghis, our amazing server, who surprised us with sweets and tea at the end That kind of warmth keeps you coming back It's more than just food -- it's warmth, flavor, and genuine hospitality at Sultan's Diner

Amazing food! I can't resist stopping in (even after we had brunch 2 hours earlier)....the food is that good! We live 2 hrs away, if I'm driving by it's a must! Perfectly fried and sauced zucchini pancakes (think zucchini fritters). Light and crispy with a subtle yogurt sauce....mmmmmm. The cold dip combo is served with fragrant, warm, crusty bread...and that carrot dip-blows me away every time! Fresh grape leaves might not be in the picture-the first thing I go for everytime! Of course, a steamy cup (or 3) of Turkish tea...perfection. Great service, Turkish decor, and most important: AUTHENTIC Turkish food! Sultan's is the real deal!

Enjoyed having my birthday lunch at this restaurant. Food was delicious and plentiful. Waiter was very friendly and attentive. Always filling up our glasses of water. I ordered the lunch special which came with lentil soup, side salad, rice and lamb. Food was great and affordable. Definitely will visit this restaurant again if in area.

Another excellent meal! I'm typically a chicken breast type of person but I opted for the grilled chicken thighs this time- Definitely a new favorite! 3 juicy well cooked pieces of chicken, with grilled tomato and long hot, I substituted fries but this comes with Bulgar and rice, a side of pickled veggies which had the perfect amount of acid to this meal. I ordered delivery, everything was neatly packed with condiments and cactik sauce for the chicken too.

Living so close to Sultan's and driving by for over a decade, I always wondered what it was like. We finally went for dinner and the belly dancing show, and our expectations were exceeded! Everything was absolutely incredible here - their menu is huge, the staff was knowledgeable about the food and very friendly, and the food came out quickly despite how packed they were with multiple large parties. I thought the lamb kofte was so tender and perfectly cooked. You can't beat the mixed cold dips platter either! The belly dancing show was so fun to watch, and we had such a great time that we already decided to bring my grandfather here in 2 weeks for his birthday. All we can say is we're disappointed we hadn't visited sooner! We will definitely be regulars now!

11.7.23 This is going to be one of those, I can't believe I haven't written a review about this place. It's one of those long overdue reviews. I've been coming here for a handful of years now and I've visited them dozens of times thanks to Melineh's pics. I've eaten in and had take out. It is authentic Turkish food. The place isn't much to look at from the outside. We've all heard the saying,, don't judge a book by its cover. This is one of those places. Ornately decorated inside. Not to much, but just enough. It is very clean inside. The service has been back and forth with good, great, outstanding & so so. But hey, everyone needs to start somewhere & everybody deserves a chance. Right? Well, they've had some new servers training at times which is to be expected at any restaurant. You take the good with the ok. The same goes with their food. I have had very good & fantastic meals and there have been some misses. Sometimes, like other reviewers have mentioned the meat has been dry because they overcooked it. The majority of times I've eaten here the meat or chicken has been on point and very juicy. I've picked up wraps for take out and that's been most of my least favorite times with their food. They do serve a solid meal with reasonable prices and good portions of food. For the most part the service has been very good. Spacious dining. They have some outside dining for the warmer months. Good size parking lot. Located alongside the highway. Easy on or off regardless of which direction you're heading in. All of the times the food has been fresh. My absolute favorite item here is their fattush salad with their amazing dressing with pomegranate juice. This is a to die for salad. They serve complimentary bread which has always been fresh on my visits. I have also had their Turkish tea after dinner which was divine. Served in an elegant glass coffee/tea cup. So simple yet so delightful. Looking forward to visiting them very soon. Until next time.

As new residents of Connecticut, we're doing a bad job of exploring so far lol. We've been so busy and haven't had time to go out much yet. We came to Sultan on a Saturday night so we could have a night out to unwind. It was a great experience. The food was delicioussss. So many great menu options! Very authentic which we loved. They also had dancers on Saturday night which was cool and entertaining. Servers were great, all around a good time. We ordered the various dips, mixed meat platter and for dessert we got bakllava and rice pudding.

It is intentional. The food, the market, the people, the energy of the place all make it worth the trip every single time. The flavors here are deeply rooted in the Middle East and the Mediterranean, and you can taste that authenticity in every bite. The hummus is silky and perfectly balanced with tahini and lemon. The baba ganoush carries real smoky depth. The chicken kebabs are juicy and seasoned all the way through. The shawarma is warm, aromatic, and layered with spice. The falafel is crisp outside, vibrant and herbaceous inside. My personal favorite is the Iraqi Chicken Sandwich. It is absolutely phenomenal. The chicken is tender, boldly seasoned, and packed with flavor. Every bite is balanced and satisfying. It is the kind of sandwich that stays on your mind long after you leave. Everything is halal and incredibly fresh. The place is always busy, which tells you everything. The food turns over quickly. The products in the market turn over quickly. There are always people picking up takeout and others shopping the shelves. And the market itself is a treasure. Authentic meats, cheeses, sausages, dairy products, dry goods, teas, dried beans, spices, specialty ingredients and more, all reflecting the flavors of the Middle East and the Mediterranean. These are items you simply will not find in conventional grocery stores. If you love to cook, you will walk out inspired. If you have never been before, do not be intimidated. Walk in. The staff are incredibly welcoming, friendly, and accommodating. There is space to sit and enjoy your meal, and they do a huge takeout business as well. Dunya is easily one of the best places in Waterbury and the surrounding areas. Authentic flavor. Unique products. Warm hospitality. I highly recommend it.

It's not just that I had one review removed despite that being from a place I've actually eaten their food from, but that the algorithm has used some of my other reviews in the past to make me look misleading, whether it be adding in information I did not add myself, switched the location of where I had reviewed a place, all of it has led me to distrust Yelp throughout the rest of 2025. I couldn't write another review up until now because every time I had even consider doing so, it felt awkward. I hate having to start a new year off like this, but over the last few weeks, I've had to work on letting go of my anger and confront my issues. Maybe this review can be a way to help with that. End emotional rant. Let's get into Kanoon, because oh boy do I have a lot of thoughts to unpack from here. So how did I actually come to dine at Kanoon? Actually, mom had found this spot and she described the people working there as nice people. We were actually going to go to Texas Roadhouse until we saw the lines inside and went here instead. This visit was more for the sake of mom's emotional well-being than anything else. Parking was a bit of a tight stunt, but as long as you can find somewhere to park you should be okay. Now, upon entering, you have to wait to be seated. Of course, because I parked the car while my mother crutched her way over to a table, I was able to just come in and tell the employee who I was with and head on over to that table. Decor and thematically, it's pleasant to look at. There's a bull head on one of the walls with a Kanoon license plate nearby. Two arcade machines are stowed away near the bathrooms. Bathrooms were nice too I guess. There's two areas where you can be seated at. At one point while we were eating, we are featured a show of dry ice at our tables. It's like fog on our own tables. They do take it back after a short while. Like I said, it's nice to look at. So now onto the food. There was the Lotus Shake, the Hummus Plate, a tray of slaws, mom had the lamb, and I had the smoked meat starter. Oh, and the crepeholics crepe was the dessert. Food is served on exotic plates and on wood. The lamb my mom got was served on a cracked wooden plate that was on its way out, so even though she did still like the lamb, she didn't finish the salad that came with it. As for me, the meat on my platter tasted fine at first, but the more I ate, the more of a story it told. The more I ate, the blander it got. Not even some extra pepper that was available at my table could save the meat. While I did still finish it, it was not without a struggle. The fries were at least crispy, and the cheese on top helped with the flavor a little. Also, the presentation was top-notch. The hummus plate was another item that was presented well, and if the main dish was as good as the hummus, I would probably have added another star to the review. But yes, the hummus was in fact a good appetizer. The chickpeas that topped it were just right. The Lotus Shake was probably the best thing I had of the night. It's a shake topped with whipped cream, a Biscoff cookie, cookie crumbs, and one of those cookie straws that are this one treat I can't think of the name at the moment. The milkshake had a caramel flavor to it, and mixed with the whipped cream was divine. The dessert was a little underwhelming if I have to be honest. You have the same caramel Biscoff flavor you did with the Lotus Shake in this crepe, and the chocolate was more of a milk chocolate. Funny thing, I had actually recently learned how to make custard using dark chocolates, and just from having my own custard alone I can tell you that this crepe would have been better complimented if a dark chocolate was used in place of the milk chocolate. This place isn't really anything to write home about. The only reason I even knew this place existed before was because this place had tons of fake Google reviews in its opening weeks. I hope Google has begun cracking down on that, but I had already lost my trust in Yelp before, so I'm going to call that even and just rate this place based on my experience here. Because it was an okay-at-best place, I can't say I would recommend Kanoon at this time.

The tandoori chicken tikka was my favorite, spicy but not overpowering, super juicy a lot of seasoning. The chicken malai boti was also juicy, but it is a very subtle light seasoning. Not too salty, not spicy, still with very nice char on it. I like that the chicken dishes did not come with rice as I don't eat it and it's a waste when I order elsewhere.
