Wow. Bought my girlfriend an arrangement from here and was a little concerned that they were going to pick from the market (given some parameters). Was pleasantly surprised that they sent an amazing bouquet of white roses that impressed her and all her co-workers. :) Only issue was that the delivery company they used was super challenging - my girlfriend had to give them directions (even though they had an address), stay on the phone with them, go down to the lobby of the building and literally chase them down. Took about :20 when she should have been working. And, they wouldn't come up to her floor. Not exactly the luxurious experience you expect from a top-end florist. I love the idea behind all things environmentally & socially responsible but I'm not a fan of having to spend more moo-lah just to show that I care. So when I came across Gardenia Organic in the latest issue of the New York magazine, my bouquet-loving heart skipped a beat! Gardenia Organic is NY's first environmentally and socially conscious florist. They ensure that the flowers are grown without harmful pesticides (which not only harm us, but also the farmers that grow them), recycle vases, make delivery using rickshaws and other do-good stuff (u can read all that on the website). And you know what the best part is? You pay just the same price as you would for the ugly+cheesy+enviro-unfriendly ones! In order to congratulate my boyfriend on his new office, I decided to give Gardenia Organic a call yesterday. Not knowing what flowers i was looking for, I told Hannah (the owner) about my intentions and she made her recommendations without a moment's haste. Later, she called me back and told me she just received a new shipment of tropical flowers (Proteas) and I was ecstatic! (Coincidentally, Proteas are a national symbol of South Africa, where my bf was originally from - hence my excitement!) In under 5 minutes, Hannah got all my details down and despite the brief conversation we had, she somehow made me feel very comfortable. Maybe it had something to do with the way she spoke, confident yet assuring, that made me trust that she was going to do a good job. She knew the occasion, she knew it was for a guy, and when she told me what she was going to do with the flowers, which color tissue she was going to use, I knew I was in good hands. At first, I was prepared to pay slightly more than usual because NY mag had mentioned that prices start at $65. And with exotic blooms, I thought it would cost even more. But guess what? The total bill came up to only about $42 (incl. tax)!! My bf's super impressed by the surprise and he thinks I spent a bomb cos it arrived at his office looking very chic in an understated but designer-looking brown paper bag (recyclable, of course). I wanted to keep the budget low since our venue was quite expensive and didn't need a whole lot of extras to make it beautiful, and Hannah was very accommodating from the first proposal. She totally got our aesthetic and sent a really professional proposal, and she didn't complain or give me any trouble when I asked her to rework the proposal to meet our budget. I first heard of Gardenia when an admirer sent my boss a bouquet for her birthday and it was quite beautiful. I was looking to send a gift to my old boss and Gardenia has a "mini garden." I sent that and just received the loveliest call thanking me. When I was concerned that maybe the mini garden wasn't plants but just a bouquet set in a window box, Hannah emailed right away and reassured me the plants will live as long as they are cared for. I'll definitely be going back and recommending Hannah to everyone. (A note on the delivery that someone else complained about. In the two instances, I haven't had trouble but if you have a tricky building entrance, there's a place on the order that you can spell it out and be clear how to best reach the receiver. For example, the business I sent the gift too, the address will actually place you down the block from the actual entrance when using gps. Best to spell it out exactly to avoid confusion!) read more

This morning, she received a call asking what times she would be home, a time was agreed upon, and the delivery person showed up at the exact time. Maybe these guys could consult for FedEx... I LOVE Gardenia Organic! They recently did the flowers for my wedding, and I could not possibly have been happier with them. Hannah Ling was amazing, she instantly put me at ease. She listened to my description of my wedding day and my bridal party, she visited the venue, and then she came up with a beautiful vision for the flowers. I'd met with two florists prior to Hannah and for various reasons neither filled me with confidence. But Hannah was so charming and capable and I knew instantly that I could trust her -- I basically just gave her a color scheme and sent her some pictures of arrangements that I liked and let her run with it. I didn't know exactly what the final result would look like until the day of the wedding when I saw the flowers in person, and I was happily surprised. Everything was gorgeous. I really never thought a boutonniere could be PERFECT, but Hannah's were totally perfect and all of the bouquets were absolutely stunning. I thought the price was very reasonable (cheaper actually than some other Manhattan boutique florists) and it was very important to me to use an environmentally friendly company. Because they only use organic and locally grown flowers, their selection is sometimes limited or unpredictable, so it is very important to have some flexibility. Like, if you have your heart set on a specific flower that is out of season at the time of your event, this would probably not be the right place for you. But if you can go with what's naturally available, and if you can give Hannah the freedom to come up with a unique concept, her designs will impress you and everyone at your wedding. We could not recommend Gardenia Organic any higher and I will definitely use them again. I'd recommend looking at their photo gallery online (mine is #3) and talking to Hannah. I must have emailed about six different florist regarding flowers for our wedding, and what I found is, unless you are planning a big to-do, a lot of places just won't bother with you- they literally just ignore you. This is the only one who emailed me back, and Hannah emailed me back right away, as well as updates and even a nice message the day before. She was very professional, and very courteous. They delivered the flowers the day before to our room, and they were beautiful, and exactly like my picture I had sent. I never got to see the groom's corsage, as it went missing from our hotel's fridge, but the bridal bouquet was stunning, as well as the mothers' and fathers' corsages. I'm on the West Coast and I had to send some flowers to NYC. This is something that had to absolutely get there the next day. I ordered 10 minutes before their 6pm EST cut off time. I tried calling, but couldnt get a hold of them. So I also emailed. The next morning I received an email saying that everything was ok and everything would be delivered on time. Hannah and her team are truly wonderful and I would highly recommend Gardenia Organic for any floral needs. I wanted a florist who was sustainable, local/seasonal focused and who had some reiki up her sleeve. This company is all that and more! Hannah went above and beyond to create perfect florals for our backyard wedding in Lake George, NY and even spent time consulting with the family gardner about what would be planted in the urns and flower beds around the house for coordination. I sent her photos of flowers I like and all I really told her was "English garden glam" was what we were shooting for. She worked hard to stay within our budget and nailed it at the trial. I absolutely love the vases and votives she sourced (and plan to repurpose them for years to come). Her attention to detail and proactive communication were top notch. I'll share that there was an unfortunate illness that kept Hannah from being there in person on the day of, however the team she sent had all the information they needed to flawlessly execute our event. It went so smoothly I didn't know until after the fact. This is even more impressive in my book. Oh, one last thing.... Hannah included reiki infused crystals in the florals for the ceremony and I'm convinced they helped us hold off the hail storm that was less than a mile away... and instead we ended up with a beautiful double rainbow.
