He also offered clear explanations about why the work would best be done a certain way. When it came to the work itself, his crew was outstanding. They arrived on time, kept on schedule, and cleaned up the site at the end of every work day. I have never seen such an organized, well managed job site. They were truly exemplary in all respects, but especially in regards to the quality of their work. When it comes time to replace my fence, my patio cover, or my driveway, I will definitely call Michael.

Michael recommended St. Augustine grass because we have a large dog, and within a week, his team was ready to start the project. He explained the entire process ahead of time and gave me detailed guidance about the watering schedule, mowing schedule, and recommended equipment for maintaining the new lawn. The crew was amazing--efficient, professional, polite, and extremely hardworking. Carlos, the crew lead, was especially impressive. He is calm, knowledgeable, and very detail-oriented. He listened carefully to every concern I had and made sure everything was addressed properly. The project was completed ahead of schedule, and they even installed a fence that we provided to protect the new lawn from foot traffic and our dog while it gets established. The finished lawn looks absolutely beautiful. The new sprinkler system is quiet, efficient, and works perfectly. They used new, quality materials and clearly did not cut corners anywhere in the project. After comparing several companies and estimates, I am very happy that we chose Pacific Landscaping and Maintenance. We received a better, more complete project at a very competitive price. Some things I wish I knew then that I know now might help others when planning their yards. Yes, Smart Landscape does a lovely job. Here's what would have made my upkeep a lot easier. 1. Extra protection ground cover to eliminate weeds. Some yards get no weeds because a super heavy cover has been used. I've spent countless hours pulling weeds since yards were done. 2. Go over what plants are going to be used. If I'd done that, I would've saved money and work to remove those that had needles that made it difficult/dangerous to remove. 3. If the designer had visited front yard, he would have seen the slight slope and the DG pathway would not have been a logical design choice. Rain washes it away and I'll have to eventually figure out a way to close up that space. 4. At that time, I didn't meet with the designer. I should have. Although it's a lovely design, I would have pointed out a change or two I'd have preferred. 5. Gray DG is not readily available and it has been difficult to keep the pathway refreshed. Someone said that he was going to provide it, but never did. Overall, I am glad I hired Smart Landscape. UPDATE: I needed to come back to add another star after carefully considering how wonderful Danny and his team are to work with. I had met with no fewer than nine landscape companies before Smart Landscape and they were nightmares for various reasons. Danny is wonderful to work with and makes sure the customer is happy.

Their model of doing whatever we need and mixing with what other contractors we use is great; we for example purchased a quartzite slab for the kitchen and Rock N Block did the rest. The prices were very reasonable as well, and looking at the end product I think it was a great deal. The rest of the team, Alexis and Jose, did a great job keeping us updated and keeping our property clean. I'm not sure who the guys were that did the counter build, I think it was someone and his two adult kids, but they did an incredible job and it seemed like they took the time to do quality work. The rest of the project ran into some difficulty with the electrical hookup and gas move, but Jose still got the work done on time and worked well with our countertop fabricator to coordinate what they needed and when to install Overall went really well and would recommend them for any sort of hardscape project.

Moving to southern California from Dayton, Ohio was a major culture change for my husband and myself. As a part time gardener, I'd learned to work with Midwestern plants that needed lots of water--our new home had an odd mixture of semitropical plants, English ivy, grass, and lots of pepper trees. We were at a loss, but knew that the yard needed a major overhaul. Thankfully, Eliana Uretsky of Gardens for the Future took the challenge and worked with us for the last 18 months to create a natural California landscape around our home. Everywhere we look we see native woodland, attractive to bees, worms, hummingbirds and neighbors alike. Drought tolerant, beautiful, fragrant and colorful, we receive weekly comments from the local walkers about how much they enjoy our garden. Eliana is an amazing Permaculture designer--passionate, creative and determined to be as holistic as possible in her work and life. Not only did she design the plan, which includes rock walls, vegetable garden, small orchard, a DG patio with a shade pergola, bird baths, water fountain, and California natives/Mediterranean and Australian plantings, she also did the installation along with our labor. Being unfamiliar with California flora, we made many trips to the Water Conservation Garden at Cuyamaca College. Eliana first took time to understand our likes and dislikes and our landscape, then created a pleasing plan that would meet the needs of our landscape, our micro climate and our maintenance ability. We wanted something that was beautiful, giving us a place to relax; low maintenance, so we could keep up with it; and be supportive to us (food) and to the land. Unlike some landscape designers who "know what is best for us", Eliana was a team player, open to suggestions and incorporating our ideas as the plan evolved. Since the plan was implemented, Eliana has made herself available to us when we need help--pruning, feeding, changing out plants that aren't working, reminding us to be patient when plants don't grow as fast as we'd like. From a previous recommendation citing her as being hard working, knowledgeable about plants, and a comfortable person to work with swayed me to go with Eliana. She and her assistant, Chris, excelled in these qualities. The landscaping project I presented to her involved a lot of older potted plants, mostly succulents, with no plan for what to do with this row of plants. Eliana used these to create a beautiful succulent garden. She also put in woodland strawberry plants as ground cover under the tree-shaded areas. She and Chris completely cleaned up the place, eliminating the cluttered look and gave me clean, interesting, and artistic looking areas. read more

The landscaping crew removed the turf in the front yard and parkway and installed drip irrigation and drought tolerant plants. They worked hard to get our project done and I'm forever grateful for it. The crew installed flagstone pavers, ground cover and plants in the side yard. New lighting in the front and side yard was also put in. Our yard looks fantastic! You won't regret having this good group of guys work on your yard. read more

We fully intend to use her team for any future projects we may have because Helena's vision for our yard made all the difference. Details: We had our backyard completely redone because it was chopped up in small unusable sections and it was just generally a mess. We had three different estimates to do the job and they all came in roughly the same price. So what was the difference? Helena's vision and communication. She was able to quickly see what our yard could look like and help us see it too. But while we were impressed with Helena's creativity, the good vibes didn't stop there. As the project went on, if there was something we weren't 100% happy with, Helena was sure to work with us to make it right. The biggest example of this? The pavers that we had purchased ended up coming from two different batches/lots and so when they were installed there was a bit of a color mismatch that wasn't really visible until after it was all laid out. After a full install of the pavers, we asked Helena about the slight mismatch and she agreed that it could look better. She went to her supplier, fought for us to get new pavers, and reinstalled the pavers for no additional cost. She is someone you want in your corner. As we went through our project, there were a few unexpected hiccups, but nothing major. Each time something would come up though, Helena would suggest multiple solutions, and if we chose a solution that would add some additional cost due to increased labor and materials from what we originally planned, we always felt that Helena was fair and reasonable with her price adjustment. Best of all, it was easy to talk to her if at any point we weren't satisfied with something or how things were going. It's been about six months since our yard was finished and we are so pleased with how it all turned out. Plan to upload before and after pictures later, but don't currently have them. The transformation was amazing though and me and my family have loved actually using our yard to its fullest potential!

She is knowledgeable about all aspects of native plants, a gifted artist, brilliant designer and a genuine pleasure to work with. Her beginning process was to learn about us and our preferences, the feel of our home, preferred colors and our vision for our landscape. The plan she devised was to remove our extensive lawn front and back which included demolition of some existing hardscape, drainage replacement, landscape regrading and planting with beautiful water saving native plants and trees. She designed a dry creek bed for the front surrounded by large boulders and native plants. Her plan included a paver path around our house, extensive lighting and installation of a drip irrigation system, which was then covered with a thick coat of mulch. All the materials she selected for our project are beautiful and organic as well as reasonably priced. Weeks after completion, plants are getting bigger and everything looks amazing. Andrea helped us to find our contractor, Gravel To Gold, and she collaborated on site and online throughout the project and continues to remain accessible. We couldn't be happier with the new look of our home and yard...it far exceeds our expectations. Andrea Doonan is the best in the business.

She came out, looked it all over, quickly sketched out a plan and provided the detail that met all of the color palette and yard/environment considerations I was wanting. I never would have been able to do the same myself. Certainly not with the level of confidence I have now. She then connected me to someone who could do the installation and after a brief discussion with that contact I can see her recommendation was perfect. I was concerned about the success of the LARGE effort that will be my backyard ... now I'm excited and can't wait to get started. Extremely reasonable rates for what she delivers. I highly recommend working with Andrea - basically, do yourself a favor! Happy gardening!

I love Paige's design and how it came to fruition. I love her choices of the flowers and edibles and how they were laid out in the garden. The garden looks nicer and fuller each day. We and a bunch of birds have been enjoying it every single day. It is just so beautiful. Highly recommend Paige and her team. If you have a garden dream, talk to them!

One of the most wonderful things that happened to me last year when I came back to SD after 8 years…read morewas to find out that at my work campus was a farm and every Monday there is a stand for the employees in Campus Point with vegetables from such farm (The Green Acre restaurant sources from them). I found out that California Farm and Garden (formerly Urban Plantations, that I knew from before I left) was behind the operations. I can only comment on the corporate farm that I have mentioned and all is fantastic. From the super cool young farmer girls and my favorite guy, always teaching us how to compost or what varieties of vegetables they grow with smiles and dedication, to the bounty we get every week. The farm is beautiful and well tended and everyone can have a picnic, see the farmers in action (working in the field) and admire the flowers. We get to take from mini bouquets home too! Hats off for this wonderful design and management and the effort everyone put to make everyone happier and healthier.

We had Eric re-landscape a large slope behind a retaining wall in our backyard in June, 2025 and he…read moredid an excellent job. After removing all the old existing vegetation he revamped our irrigation system, replacing many old valves and installed new drip irrigation lines. He selected a variety of attractive plants that don't require much water and planted them in an very attractive layout. On two subsequent occasions, months after he completed the work, he provided sound advice on adjusting the irrigation to some of the plants which needed less watering than others. The gorilla hair mulch (shredded bark) he used to cover the slope has reduced water use and erosion. Overall he did an excellent job and I highly recommend him.
