Dealing with Gardner Pool has been a very expensive lesson costing over $31,124 plus expenses for poor workmanship and having to repair and replace every aspect of tile, PebbleFina, plumbing and bringing the pool up to code, plus the lawyer expense to sue them after 2 years! The first problem was about 8 tiles had popped off so we contacted Gardner Pools immediately. They sent out a subcontractor who told us there was no mastic joint which was causing pressure on all of the tiles and the problem would continue until the mastic joint was done. He gave us a price to repair the tiles but suggested that we contact Gardner Pools immediately because this would continue to happen. Gardner Pools would not return any of our telephone calls. I had to threatened a lawyer and finally after 4 telephone calls Mike called me back in two minutes. Mike came out to our home to look at the problem and told us that it was our fault for not sealing the tile!?@ Uh no, there is a real problem. After spending over $15,000 they forgot to put in a mastic joint which caused pressure on the pool. We contacted the California State Contractor License Board because Gardner Pools would only agree to fix the 8 tiles. This is a very long process and unfortunately they don't really care. After months they made an appointment with me so I drove out to my vacation home and met with Eduardo Rodriguez from the State Board. We got down on our knees and checked all of the tiles to find out that now ALL of the tiles had lifted instead of the original 8 tiles. The State Board now had to get approval to hire a person to give his professional opinion which took months. I received the telephone call that we had an appointment for the professional opinion, we were told not to speak to him and just show him the pool. The report comes back with 8 tiles need repair. Their expert didn't look, get on his knees, nothing, waste of time!!!! So frustrating!!! Now after wasting months the pool has even more damage! The State Board is proving to be no help. Mark Feldstein called me on the phone to settle this and agreed to come out and take a look. He personally called me on the phone and said "you were right"! Finally we are getting some where! Gardner Pools agreed to remove and replace the tiles and I insisted on the mastic joint be done or this would happen again. I ultimately hoped that this would be the end of the construction and problems but that did not happen. As soon as the work was completed a slow leak which turned into a major problem with the water level was dropping inches week after week. I once again contacted the owner, Mark Feldstein. He never called so I called Mike McKenna. He came out and suggested that we need to find the leak. We hired Vacation Pools since the owners worked together on finding a solution to the pool damage during the State Board investigation. They sent out leak detection professionals and determined that none of the plumbing was replaced when they demoed the pool. This should have been done before plastering the pool along with bringing the pool up to code. The plaster was already lifting from them not demoing the pool properly. So now we have all of the tiles replaced, the mastic joint done after they forgot it and now we have to re-do the entire pool again. We had to drain the pool, demo all of the plaster, tear up the pool deck to replace the plumbing, bring it up to code with the drain, refill the water and have the pool monitored for 6 weeks. We reached out to the State Board and were told that this wasn't include in the original complaint so now the statue of limitations has expired to go after the contractor. I reopened the claim for their bond which they need a judgement now that the statue of limitation has expired. We hired the Law Offices of Jon Goldstein to go after them since we can fight the statue of limitation since they did work on the pool in 2017. We will be suing them for all of the expenses, damages and reimbursement to fix their work. This truly is one of the worst experiences of my life with how long it has taken to resolve this issue. I am glad we just finished construction with the new contractor and can quantify all of our expenses so now that we can sue Gardner Pools. Make sure you understand their warranty, statue of limitations, that you know who they hire on your property since day labor is not covered by work compensation and know that they have multiple unhappy clients who have also filed with the State Board but you can't see because they were settled and it doesn't show you how many complaints that they have actually resolved. read more

Dave in Sales and Heidi in the office were both a pleasure to work with. Beyond those two, my experience of having new pebbletec installed was marginal to poor. I've had pebbletec before and loved it. This installation is irregular as to finish and has already had three service calls to remove "rust spots" in the pebbletec due to metal that was mixed in with the pebbletec. Another visit is now needed as there are more rust spots in the pool again. Couple the seemingly never ending rust spots and the unacceptable finish variation and their very slow response to requests for service makes me advise others to be careful not to set your expectations too high read more

I am on the Board of an HOA in Palm Springs and was tasked with getting a good contractor and then overseeing the resurfacing of our community pool. From start to finish, Gardner was very professional and the work was very well organized and efficient. We needed a bid quickly and Dave Cole was able to get it to us in time for our meeting. Dave was also very knowledgeable about options. Once we contracted with Gardner, we were assigned Cameron to be our project manager. In January 2012 our homeowners association contracted with Gardner to resurface and retile our three swimming pools and two spas. The Board was extremely pleased with the quality of their work and the results of the remodeling. The homeowners love the new tile and the texture of the pebble fina surface. In July I contacted Gardner to do some work on my pool. They found some leaks in the spa and pool, so it necessitated redoing the pool. They redesigned the dam wall opening into the pool and installed some teal blue accent tiles that match the tile in the pool. I chose a new product called Beadcrete for the surface, which has small glass beads molded into the surface. It is beautiful. I am totally pleased with the transformation of the pool from a dark pebble sheen finish and quartz to a bright and alluring pool. I couldn't be happier with the total job performance. Their workmen were all professional and polite. They finished the job before the promised deadline even inspite of delays which were caused by the contractor refinishing the decking around the pool. read more

My experience with Gardner Outdoor and Pool Remodeling was excellent, and truly worthy of five stars. I selected Gardner based on extensive on-line research, its many years of doing business, and because it was an authorized applicator for Pebble Technology International. I initially met on-site with Dave Cole, who assessed the condition of my pool and discussed options for plaster, new tile, and lighting. Dave brought product literature and plaster samples with him for review, and provided an estimate of schedule/timing based on the anticipated scope of work. He was prompt in submitting a proposal within a few days, and even after approval of the contract, accommodated my schedule when I requested a delay in the start date. When the project started a few months later than originally anticipated, Dave honored the terms and conditions of my contract. He stayed involved in the process from beginning to end, and it was a pleasure seeing him on-site during the course of the work. The construction team was led by Mike McKenna, V.P. He was extremely knowledgeable, patient, and always available to discuss the details and scheduling of the project. After demolition of the existing plaster and tile, plumbing leaks were discovered between the pool and spa. Within the originally scheduled period of construction and with the added burden of working in inclement weather, Mike and Cameron Little, his supervisor, worked with me to schedule the necessary leak detection services, and demolish/cap off the existing plumbing lines. To stay on schedule, Mike, Cameron, and I made a timely decision to convert the spa to a tanning shelf and without delay, Gardner made the necessary arrangements to do the additionally required demo, installation of rebar, and relocation of the spa light. Also at my request, they installed an autofill as additional scope without extension of the schedule. And not insignificantly, all of this was done in the context of having to sub-contract installation of new gunite at all the existing pool surfaces, prior to new tile and the Pebble Sheen finish. It goes without saying that the quality of work was exemplary, but equally important, was Mike's management of the process. He was proactive, responsive to my calls, and pushed the process forward in a timely manner. It is also worth noting that Lorenzo Valdez as the crew's lead, did an incredible job on the project, and made sure that on a daily basis, the pool and adjacent areas were properly cleared of debris and swept clean. The quality of craft, pride in work, and ownership of the process, are evident in the final product. The pool is absolutely beautiful. What a great experience. Gardner came highly recommended by another contractor I was using for another project. Dave Cole came out and took measurements and provided an estimate. Everything was clearly identified by type of material desired and by separate sections of the job. There was always clear and responsive communication. Dave stayed in constant contact with me, even after the project began, which is a pleasure to stay in touch directly with the sales representative that worked with you from the beginning. That isn't always my experience, but Gardner hit a home run with me with that kind of customer service. The pool and spa look amazing. Gardner pool plastering co is a family business that stands behind it's work. My pool is just three years old and suffered from several issues....rebar rusting and extensive staining from what appeared to be plaster dust and brush marks from an improper start-up. In addition to this, it developed extensive copper staining from the exposed rebar. I called the general contractor that built the pool, Richard of Classic Pools, whom initially showed concern, but quickly became MIA, refusing to return phone calls. Gardner was contracted by Classic pools to plaster the pool three years ago and thankfully showed much more concern than Classic pools. Was the pool still under warranty? No. Was Gardner responsible for the sloppy start-up? No. Was Gardner responsible for the 6" piece of rebar being just 1" from the plaster surface rather than the standard 2"? Doubtful, as there are several companies involved with this aspect of pool building. Despite this, Mike stepped up and resolved ALL of my pool issues. Not only did he repair the rebar, he acid washed the pool, his crew did a fantastic job! With so many companies happy to take the money and run, it was refreshing to deal with a company that goes out of the way to resolve issues and make the customer happy. Thanks again Mike! Just finished up a $70k pool remodel and new concrete deck for my community and had a great experience! There are a few items that still need to be punched but am very pleased with the final outcome. We worked with Cameron who was professional, responsive, accountable and a pleasure to work with. The owner Mike also checked in from time to time with the project which I appreciated. All contractors were respectful & clean. We threw lots of changes, questions and revisions at them since we were working from a committee and all requests were met head on, with patience and were accommodated. The timeline was accurate although on the long end due to COVID precautions and changes made. The scope included demo, new pebble tech, new concrete deck, moving gas lines and electric which they coordinated under one roof. We had Gardner Outdoor and Pool Remodeling replace our tile and plaster with new tile and Pebble Tech's Pebble Sheen. They also installed new LED Pool lights and replaced the pool pump with a variable speed pump and a new pool filter. Their work was amazing. They did everything according to the agreed upon schedule for the price they quoted. Redoing a pool is a very messy project but at the end of each day they cleaned up everything so it did not look like we were even doing any work there. They protected all of our garden areas and even covered our artificial grass with plywood sheets to protect it. I hired Gardner Pools to replaster my pool. They were extremely professional and responsive to my questions. They worked non-stop in extreme heat and got the job done in less than 3 days. Not until 4 weeks later or so, I noticed the new pool light wouldn't turn on. I called and they came the next day. The problem was that a breaker had tripped. They flipped it back and all was well.
