The plaster and tile needed to be replaced within my in-ground pool and spa combo. As an automatic, I turned to Yelp to seek project bids and read reviews. Appointment was set for five days later.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Albert and Pablo arrived to my home on time. They measured, took pictures and assessed the pool along with the pool pump system. As a matter of fact, the project was completed a week earlier! Even my neighbors commented how quickly they worked and how great the pool turned out. From Day 1 to the end, the entire crew was respectful. We just completed a pool rennovation with Melos and they did an outstanding job. Our pool in Rancho Mirage was damaged in the flooding following the hurricane last year, resulting in stained plaster. We decided to re-surface the pool and re-tile as well. Because of the age of the pool there were a few other things that needed to be addressed, but they were great working with us through all of the issues that came up. Just wanted to show the defective plaster on my new pool. It was drained yesterday to do the necessary plumbing repairs (Cooper pipes left under slab going to the new skimmer and inlet). Please note the darkened areas and spider web cracking. The molting is caused by late troweling and cracking is caused by not applying enough Plaster over the gunite. Underneath each of the spider web cracks the area is hollow! It is just a matter of time before the Plaster fails. This is a defect that both Alberto Melo and the owner of Vasquez Plaster denied. The cracks and the molting can be seen very clearly with water in the pool, but both said they see nothing! Denial is cheaper and heck I'm just a stupid woman, what do I know!!! I have to demo and replaster my pool in the fall. The amount I paid Melo's was a complete waste! To say I am upset would be an understatement. I have no choice but to report my findings to the California State License Board and let them investigate and go after the bond to recoup the cost to re do the Plaster and plumbing. I have to now pay to fix this incredible mess caused by Melo and the cheap subs they use both concrete and plaster. I urge you to look for another pool contractor. I found an honest one in the end, but unfortunately for me it cost me a lot of extra money. So incredibly bad, dishonest and wrong. So disappointed Melo's denied everything and did not stand by their work! I wish that I would have read the negative reviews on Yelp BEFORE I signed the contract. read more

My family could not be more disappointed with the quality and service provided by Melo Pools. We paid over 100k for a top end infinity pool, and have had non-stop issues with the tile job done by Melo. Within 6 months of completion, the tiles started falling off all over the place. This is a 2nd home, and every time that we came to vacation we arrived to find a lot of tiles missing. We'd contact Melo, they would make various excuses to try and avoid having to deal with it, and then say they'll come repair it. Each time we'd return to the home, there were more tiles missing and this process repeated for several years. After a number of years dealing with this, and a serious cut on someone's foot from the poor workmanship, we requested that they redo the job. We had gotten opinions from several other contractors/pool professionals, who all noted that the tile job was not done properly, and that these issues would continue. Melo continued to try and evade the issue, and it was a painful process to get them to even respond. We eventually got to the point where we insisted on a complete redo so that we weren't dealing with this every visit, and only after making clear we'd be filing a complaint with the California State Licence Board if they did't agree to repair. However, after agreeing to do this, we tried to schedule a time for approximately 2 years while Melo made constant excuse about how busy they were and they'd get back to us later with a time. This went on for months and not once did they reach out to us. On our last visit, the excuses continued, and we advised we had no choice but to make a claim on their contractors bond, as these things have to be done within certain time limits. We recently sold the property, and had assured the new buyer that Melo would schedule the repair with them, and when attempting to do this Melo's new excuse was that since we notified the bond company of the issue, they were going to punish us by refusing to do anything about it. It became very clear that they had all along intended to delay, delay, delay and then find a very dishonest excuse fully lacking in integrity to get out of fixing their shoddy workmanship. After several years of never being able to fully enjoy our pool, multiple cuts/injuries to guests and children that Melo was made aware of but took no action on, we are now left with having to file complaints with the CSLB and on their contractors bond to investigate the substandard work. It may very well be that they intentionally delayed this, and took advantage of our good faith, to the point were these time limits have run out. I see this company has many good reviews, so perhaps the problem is that the Owner's son is now in charge and would rather spend his time seeking out new business, instead of taking care of previous clients that spent 100k+ with them. Update on my first review. Was initially very impressed with the build process and support throughout, but subsequently found that my pool was losing water. Like others here, I have found the aftersales support thoroughly lacking. On initial contact regarding the issue, Melos did a crew out to test for leaks around the plumbing fittings, but went silent on me after they were unable to find any. They made no attempt to investigate the issue further. I was eventually able to determine that the spa was gently overflowing whilst the filter pump was running, due to the two equalizer lines between the spa and the pool being installed in a way that allows them to attract, and subsequently become blocked by, floating leaf detritus. It's a major oversight that has required me (yes me - myself, not Melos) to modify the plumbing of the pool in order to prevent it from happening, and the end result is ugly. In short, I feel that Melos are very keen to sell you a pool, but that should you encounter problems once they have pocketed your money, you're going to be out of luck. I love my pool, but wish that I had gone with another construction company that stood behind their work. Pretty grim. read more

We used Melo's to build an entirely new 10' x 30' pool and spa in the front yard of a house we purchased in Palm Springs. They also built a 5' concrete stucco L-shaped wall around the property. To start the process I triple-bid the job. All of the bids were in a similar range, but Melo's bid was most polished and professional. They gave us a clearly outlined PDF with line items for all of the details and options. Albert prepared the bid, he is the owner and Melo's is a local, family run business. He walked us through a 3-D model of the design and showed us photos of past work. After we signed the contract Melo's took care of all permitting with the City of Palm Springs, EXCEPT the rest of the perimeter around the pool outside of the L-shapes stucco wall. Melo's was great, the City of Palm Springs Planning Department is an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE. Pool and wall we're approved, fence would come later, and digging began. Melo's was efficient in working and Albert's right-hand man, Mauricio, took over. Both Albert and Mauricio were always available to me by phone or text if I needed them. The middle of the project became painful due to BS related to the disorganized city and the project was delayed by about a month. Albert and Mauricio went above and beyond to help me attending all sorts of meeting with various people in planning, many of whom told us conflicting things as the plans were approved, unapproved, and approved again. 12-14 weeks later the finishing touches were done. Big projects are challenging and since I was personally involved in trying to get everything done perfectly. The pool is amazing and the wall is beautiful. Melo's was generous in helping me level the lot and assisted in a few other things that were above and beyond. I would use them again and may even in the future if I can further develop this property or another. This is my family and I's first home ever and Melo's was a huge help in making it possible with their quality work and service. read more

I told them I knew the light was out of warranty, and that I would pay for the service. Told them I already purchased the light ($539). When they heard that, they said they couldn't do it. The short version: Do yourself a favor and CHOOSE MELOS. The long verison: We bought a house in the Windy Point neighborhood of Palm Springs, knowing that we would need to build a pool. We had several different places come out and bid on the job. Knowing that we were going to be paying a pretty penny for this build, I agonized over what company to go with. Melos prices were about mid-range for bids - not the highest and not the lowest- but I went with them because of how they treated me and how they communicated with me. I ended up being SO glad I did. I asked a TON of questions during the bid process (it's our first time owning a pool, let alone having one built), and they gave me detailed and clear answers throughout the whole process. They were flexible and adapted with some last-minute schedule changes we had too! Melos works on a lot of big and impressive projects- ours was not that; we got a relatively small and simple pool and spa. I was doing a full home remodel, and I must say, Albert and his team were by far the best contractors I encountered. I love when you can text someone and they actually respond- It left me feeling very well taken care of on a project that was so important to me. They were able to roll with the punches when things got held up because of other parts of my home remodel, and I could tell really enjoyed doing something somewhat unconventional. The owner called in response to my review. Very apologotic about the service I received. I did decide to schedule a visit for a quote. Alberto is very knowledgeable about the business and was very forthcoming about timelines given supply chain issues and his backlog. He provided a quote in 2 days which is amazing. He also provided many brochures so we know what our options are. read more

I have never posted a review here on yelp but wanted to take the time and post something since part of my decision of going with Melos Pools was based on the reviews here. I always try to do my research on most of my decisions specially something big like this. Melos Pools was a perfect choice to go with after talking to other pool companies. Albert Jr was very easy to work with and talk to, I really felt the enthusiasm. He knew my vision on what I wanted and really helped develop that vision with great suggestions and expert ideas. He was very thorough on explaining the whole process and kept in contact throughout the whole project with updates on what they were doing next. I'm pleased on how everything turned out. Melos always made me feel like I was their only customer! No one ever said " Yes I want to blow 50k+ on a pool"- especially not my husband. With that in mind I was on the hunt to find the perfect company to work with and after receiving multiple bids Melos Pools was the easy choice. It wasnt about the cost- they actually had one of the higher bids. It was about their overall understanding of my vision and their assurance behind no "hidden" costs. Their bid was beyond detailed and spelled every detail out. Albert walked me thru everything- timing, pool depths potential delays, city requirements etc. Lets not forget my amazing Project Manager - Moses!
