Garibaldi is a simply amazing hidden gem tucked away into a little strip mall. The chips and trio of salsas reminded me of the type you get in Mexico. Those doubly thick crispy chips and salsa that hits you with a quick kick in the beginning followed by a lingering flavor of smokiness or tang depending on the type. We started with the excellent guac and also ordered some tasty homemade horchata and Jamaica (hibiscus) drinks. I had the costillas de res- a short rib with cactus and charros frijoles. It was excellent. The beans were addictive with little bits of sausage that have it a deep flavor of smoky richness. Also ordered were the mole enchiladas, chilaquiles verdes, tacos dorados, and the bandeja paisa. Everything was out of this world. I'm already planning my next meal to be a ceviche and tacos combo!! Service was a bit disorganized but so friendly and willing to give tons of suggestion and recommendations and tweak the dishes to our preferred spice levels. BYO, too! read more

The tacos at Garibaldi are pretty spectacular (considering there aren't too many comparable options in the area). You won't find fancy silverware or waiters here but what you will find is authentic, delicious home cooking. Garibaldi is tucked away in a strip mall and may be hard to find the very first time but it is well worth the effort. The establishment is very low key and casual. After we ordered our food and sat down, we got complimentary chips (fresh made) while waiting for our food to come out. We ordered tacos al pastor (pork) and tacos de cabeza (cow head) with a side of frijoles charros (beans and sausage). The meat was juicy and tender, the tacos were perfectly flavored, the taco shells were soft and warm, and the meat to shell ratio was perfect. The beans were a little salty but had a nice kick of spiciness and paired well with the chips. I can't say much about their other options but Garibaldi deserves 5 stars for their tacos alone. read more

Was in the area so searched on yelp for a place to eat. When I got there, I thought I was at the wrong place as it looked more like a pizzaria than anything I had expected. I ordered the seafood soup, ceviche and the guava juice drink. Pleasantly surprised, everything was delish AND cheap. Servers were so nice granted I only speak broken Spanglish so my bf did all the talking/ordering. I was full and satisfied when we left. Although, I wish they used real shrimps for the ceviche instead of baby shrimps..I'm spoiled when it comes to seafood :D Went back the nxt day and got some tripe tacos and more guava juice! Saw the great reviews on Yelp and we tried tonight. Wow! I agree with the other reviewers that it must've been a pizza place in its previous incarnation. However, the service was very hospitable. Fresh, just made tortilla chips were great. Even better with the avocado salsa. Pork tacos and alambre steak tacos were amazing. Authentic, fresh, and served with a lime wedge. Chicken enchiladas were very good. A tad on the spicy side, but good nonetheless. Our sides were sweet plantains (great to cut the spiciness of the enchiladas), beans (good but not extraordinary) and rice (really good). We'll be back! read more

Yum yum! I love the tacos here. As a result, I don't branch out to sample other parts of the menu that often. The hubby has always gotten takeout for us to enjoy the goodness at home. I love the head and trip tacos, which can be challenging to find in other restaurants with a smaller and more limited menu. Their chicken soup is great, but it spilled and leaked all over the place because they cut a slit on the top of the container. The only misstep are the fish tacos - way too little filling. Felt like I was eating two tortillas with a tiny side of fish. Definitely not worth the value. However, the other tacos were seriously on point. read more

Came here with my boyfriend for a Friday night date. The interior decorating is nothing fancy. Looks like a pizzeria with tvs. But the food was GREAT! Its also BYO. We started off with guacamole and chips. The guac was so creamy and delicious. We got the taco alambre. The tacos were meaty and cheesy. The waitress gave us a lot of different sauces which I dumped in my taco. Simply amazing! I also got the arroz chaufa de mariscos. The fried rice was cooked perfectly and had a great amount of baby shrimp, scallops, muscles and calamari. I think there's a new owner. its an older lady that took care of us the last time I was there. English is understandable. the menu changed and there's table cloth now. you can't order individual tacos anymore. Tacos come in a set. I'm addicted to their tacos! The shells are on a sweet side and in combination with the meat, it creates a unique taste. I usually get Al Pastor tacos with marinated pork. They are really good! I have also tried their enchiladas and one of Peruvian dishes with beef. They were both good, but not as good as tacos! I also love their guacamole. It looks freshly made and has big chunks of avocado in it. The chips are too oily - I prefer to have my own with their guacamole. The place is a little pricey -$10 for 4 little tacos and there is not much meat in it. It's good and it's worth it, but the portions are not huge. The staff is nice. The restaurant has several tables to dine in. The decor is very simple and it's usually quiet there at night. read more

This is my go-to spot while at work in Fairfield, NJ. You can literally drive right past this hole in the wall, but if you do, you'll regret it. The guacamole is a MUST especially if you're ordering pick up. The portion is HEAVENLY. I've had the shrimp, chicken, and fish tacos -- fantastic! Husband and I came here today for dinner. I ordered the tacos de cabeza and tacos de pescado. The cabeza was delicious - so moist and fatty. The fish tacos, on the other hand, were pretty bland and dry and didn't taste like much. Husband (he's Mexican) got the tacos al pastor and tacos de bistec which were both dry and bland. We also got the chilaquiles rojos which were just ok. I could barely eat them since they were extremely hot (and I can usually manage spicy ok). My husband just thought they were alright, and they were even kind of spicy for him, which is crazy since he can eat super spicy foods. I also thought the portion size of the actual chilaquiles was kind of small. Quite a bit of steak though! I'm also not used to having the red sauce of the chilaquiles be chipotle. Usually it's just tomato with some serrano peppers, which I really prefer.... I love the chipotle flavor but just not on my chilaquiles. The chips were delicious. The Chips and Guacamole has bits of tomato and celantro; crunchy, creamy, and fresh flavor. The #69. Lomo Saltado de Carne has an incredible taste; savory semi-sweet onion flavor with a side of green mayo horse radish sauce on a bed of crispy fries with a turned over bowl of white rice. Nice presentation. The #75. Jalea Deep Fried Fish and Seafood has a beautiful light batter on fish fillet portions, shrimp, and squid with yucca wedges (like potato but better!) accented with lime quarters and a side bowl of red onions relish that adds a slight tang. The key is to taste all components in a bite! The fried plantains were sweet and made perfect. We enjoyed our unique surf and turf meal with leftovers to take home. I walked in hoping to find an honest place, I liked the ambiance, very basic, and the lady at the counter was on phone but acknowledged me and waived to be seated, I expressed that my quest is to eat good Tacos, and she suggested to have chicken and beef. I liked the crisp fried tortillas chips, and the four dips, the main fare was really good and filling. Tacos were soft, fresh and the filling was decent and distinct in taste. I just moved in town and was super excited to find a Peruvian restaurant. My husband is Peruvian and I absolutely LOVE Peruvian food. I ordered our favorite dishes; lomo saltado de pollo for me and lomo saltado for the hubby. I hate to say this...but I was quite disappointed. This was not a Peruvian dish, more like a Mexican dish. The flavors were good, but Mexican. The dish included peppers and no tomatoes. The Peruvian dish always has tomatoes! The dish was also quite dry. The Peruvian dish has tons of juices to mix with the rice. I honestly think it was more of a Mexican fajita, not saltado dishes. I gave it three stars bc it was okay for a Mexican dish. I was waiting and waiting to write my 100th review because I wanted it to be a good one and Garibaldis right now wins the vote. This may be the best Mexican / Peruvian take out joint in the north jersey area. Now they have a large menu but don't let it mistaken you they do everything right so far. The Peruvian platter Bandeja Paisa is amazing you get rice beans with pork belly, seasoned flank steak, 2 fried eggs, chorizo and sweetened plantains and fries for 14$ they make everything fresh here and you taste it in their salsa verde and salsa Rojo as well as another special creamy tomatillo sauce I had gotten from them. I have only eaten here twice but believe me, being from north queens where there are many Mexican and South American restaurants and food trucks in abundance this place reminded me from back home, and family seems to be the key here too among the employees so it's another reason why the food here is so tight, again try the Peruvian Platter #84! read more

Called in early to get the ceviche mixto as this was something my friend had advised. This place is small, but the portions are large. There was a lot of different kinds of seafood on the plate: scallops, shrimp, muscles, but wanted some fish and although their menu mentioned it, I did not see any. The food was tasty, but it quickly lost its pizzaz when I realized the seafood was swimming in a pool of lime juice. There was so much juice, almost brimming the edge; and they served a half lime on the side as if you wanted more lime juice. However fresh it was, my mouth was getting too tart that the yuca on the side couldn't help. Had to get a side of black beans, which was heavenly. I'm open to try this place again, and give an update, but based on my first impressions I gave this place 3 stars. read more

Sometimes the best places to eat out are those you visit just by chance. Visiting the area, I resourced to Yelp and found Garibaldi. I didn't know what to expect when I walked into this place. But, I can tell you now that it was a good meal. I had was simple quesadillas but they were just right. The cheese was enough yet flavorful. The sources used were very tasty. The Ceviche was outstanding and very fresh. This is why I wanted to visit this place. I recommend the Ceviche at Garibaldi. It is the perfect portion in fact it was more than enough. It could feed two. Lost of Spanish bottled drinks and others which are made there. Highly recommend this place. The service is also very good. Nice people. The owners serve you and are good for a quick conversation. You can't go wrong. read more

There is something about hole in the wall Mexican places I just love. Even though I had gone to the Indian place right next door numerous times, I never realised this place was even Mexican. It was a coworker that told me how much he loved this place. And boy was he right. The tortilla chips are thick and delicious. The three different salsas are really tasty. Only complaint is the lack of chips given especially when eating with a lot of people. The food portions are good and the value is excellent. Only gripe is really how slow it takes though being fresh it's understandable just while going on lunch break makes it nerve wracking in order to get back to Wayne. This is what appears to be a family owned business and I absolutely hate having less than 4/5 stars for a family owned place. The woman at the counter, who I presume is the owner is a very hospitable person, so it absolutely pains me to do give this place 3 stars but alas I must be honest with me fellow yelpers about my experience. First off, I went in with high expectations from the stellar reviews this place had and maybe my opinion has been skewed because of it. The place seemed more of a take out place than anything else, it wasn't very comfortable to eat in and the place needs some updating. But, I've eaten at places like this before and sometimes their food is just out of the world. I immediately pulled out the handy yelp app and started looking at what to order. I ordered the recommendations: guacamole with chips, this came with 3 sauces and we also ordered the ceviche. The guacamole was actually pretty good, not overly mashed, some chunkiness, and it came with the sauce. I didn't try the ceviche, but my coexpert taster (my wife) found the ceviche was ok. For our main menu we ordered the tacos (al pastor and chorizo) and we ordered Bandeja Paiso with the pork chop instead of the Steak, The tacos were ok, I compared them to the mexican restaurant across the streen, Las Leyendas, and the tacos at Las Leyendas seemed a bit better. The Bandeja Paiso is something I'm not familiar with, there was a lot of mixed food on the plate. The sausage was good, a bit on the salty side though. The porkchop was overcooked and dry, couldn't eat much of that. The Egg was perfectly fried on top and the plantains were ok. This dish was definitely hyped up more than it needed to be here on yelp though, and I guess the rating suffered for it. I'm not sure I'd be back here though, it didn't seem like a place that had anything out of the norm. read more

Let me preface this by saying I read their reviews and drove 30 minutes for this place and was really excited. The food was really good. Other than that, my visit was less than subpar. It took 10 mins for the waitress (also assuming owner) came to get my drink order. I was one of 2 people in the place. Then she went in the kitchen for another 5 mins before bringing my nasty tasting water in a dirty cup and no straw. I ordered Lomo and asked about their chips and salsa as I thought they came when you sat. The Lomo came about 10 mins later along with the chips at the same time, not before like most places. Again, the food was legit, but the service was abysmal. The waitress/owner seemed like she had a bad attitude and the place had no AC. Needless to say at the end of the meal I was sweating bullets and had to get out of there. Maybe it was a bad day for them. I would try it one more time I guess. read more

Like many other reviewers, I was thrown off by the fact that this place not only has Peruvian and Mexican but also serves pizza. Regardless of the pizza, this hole in the wall has become a regular lunch spot for my co-workers and I. I have only had the 'arroz chaufa de pollo' (chicken fried rice) - the rice comes with this awesome sauce, it has the perfect spicy kick to it. I typically order extra sauce and douse my rice in it. Overall, the food is fresh, reasonably priced, and comes in large portions. The menu is pretty large and varied. Next time Ill have to stray away from the rice to try something new. read more

Wasn't sure what to expect: such good reviews from Yelpers but the fact that they serve pizza is off-putting. Once I walked in, however, I felt a little better. Not about the pizza, because that's still weird, but the place was laid out with some taste; booths rather than dinky cheap plastic tables like I expected, table cloths, and real napkins. Little details I pay attention to. The service was outstanding - she was more than eager to please and was very honest with recommendations and what to avoid. Everything we tried was phenomenal. The mole poblano especially. So many establishments serve "mole" that tastes mostly like nothing, or worse. A good mole is phenomenal...and this might be the best mole I've had anywhere in the United States. Also had guacamole, tacos al pastor, and ceviche mixto. Guacamole was nothing to write home about but it was fresh and tasty and definitely good. Tacos and ceviche were fresh and delicious and I would try other tacos next time too. This coming from someone who's not normally all that into tacos. On the whole, it knocked my expectations out of the ballpark -- I will be coming here from now on when I find myself missing Peruvian food, and also when I have what I suspect will be increasingly frequent taco cravings. Great authentic Mexican food with good service. I have had their chips and guacamole which are excellent. I have also had their steak tacos and fried yucca that comes with an great green creamy sauce. The only downside is that I wish they would put more meat in their tacos but overall the quality is great. I would recommend trying this place out for yourself. read more

When you first go in this place, it looks like a it was one of those old pizza places or like that ice cream shop in Marc Brown's Arthur. First off, the tacos here are amazing. If you're expecting some Chipotle monster ( I love Chipotle but...) this is not it. I highly recommend the tacos. I also got the ceviche mixto and thought it was way too much. Tons of seafood and these little nuts to cut the acid. I think this dish could've been much improved if they served a smaller portion so it wasn't overwhelmingly acidic. I couldn't finish it and couldn't even imagine bringing it home and I don't like wasting food. One star off for that. If I wasn't so full on the ceviche I also ordered, I would've ordered a ton more tacos. I would've only gotten tacos. In fact, I'd go back and only eat their tacos for days. DAYS. Also close to where I live which is why I'm so excited about this. No more will I have to drive half an hour for tasty tacos. read more

Empty on a Friday lunch but the smell is wonderful inside, ie you will smell like food when you're done with eating. The chef/owner is also waiting the tables. But surprisingly our food came out pretty fast. The tacos are the real deal. Crispy on the outside. The lengua is very flavorful and tender. I really enjoyed the grilled scallions as well. Great idea I will steal for our next BBQ. We also ordered the Peruvian chicken. A little dry and too salty for me. But their green sauce is pretty decent.
