The service department is lousy. I purchased my Volvo here in Temple but have had horrible dealings with the service department on multiple occasions. It is so bad that I now drive to Austin for my Volvo service needs which is really inconvenient. They really should train the ladies who answer the phones. They have an I don't care attitude and your needs are really of no concern to them. And good luck ever getting a phone call back when you leave a message. It's a shame because I live my Volvo and would probably want to but another one when it's time to trade this one in - but the service department is so bad that I probably will not purchase a Volvo again just because driving to Austin for service is not very convenient. Took my car to Garlyn Shelton Volkswagen/ Volvo of Temple for a 50,000-mile service. The car drove perfectly fine when I dropped it off for service. Part of the service was a tire rebalance, rotation and a 4-wheel alignment. Upon leaving the service department's parking lot my car was pulling severely hard to the left and was immediately undriveable!! By the time I had turned around and returned to Garlyn Shelton Volkswagen/ Volvo of Temple they had already closed as I had picked up the car at the end of the day. I had to drive the car with 4-way flashers on to another shop for repair. The other shop identified and repaired the issue. Garlyn Shelton Volkswagen/ Volvo of Temple simply never test drove the car after performing service and ultimately gave me a car that was unsafe to even drive out of their parking lot. I'm a current Volvo owner. I've had some mechanical issues but nothing that the warranty wouldn't cover thank goodness. Recently thought about trading it in due to increasing repairs being needed. Went online to request a quote. A sales rep from this company called me and told me she would have her manager put together a price. She said he was currently in a meeting, but wot get back to me later that day. Well, unfortunately that didn't happen. Here we are I believe three weeks later. I don't have a price. The sales rep did texted me her information and asked me if there was anything else I needed to know. I responded both by text and email. I also called, but no answer. Definitely worth taking a drive to Temple. Worked with Bobby, to find the perfect XC40. Thank goodness he was patient with me and the colors and options that I wanted on the SUV. Jason and Elena were knowledgeable about the vehicle and answered all the questions we had. Bertram made sure we were happy with the financing and made that part as smooth as possible. I am writing to tell everyone about my complete disgust and disappoint with Garlyn Shelton Volkswagon/ Volvo Care of Temple and Service Advisor, Amiee Hunter. In November 2023, I took my car to Garlyn Shelton Volkswagon/ Volvo Care of Temple to have the pistons replaced. This was after they had previously recently seen my car twice already - 1) for a 60,000 mile check up where I paid over $500 for service and 2) to check a gas cap light and battery light where I paid over $400. While my car was there the third time, I mentioned that the tailgate was not working well. The staff told me that they would look at it, and I asked if it was going to cost more money, They said yes, since they hadn't looked at that specific issue any of the earlier times I was in. Amiee Hunter, Service Advisor, told me the cost to diagnose would be $95.00. The next day, Amiee called and told me that the tailgate was going to cost $270 to repair. I asked her then if she was going to charge that to me in addition to the $95.00 and she said no, that the total cost was going to be $270 (including the cost to diagnose). I approved the repair. A week later, I went to pick up my car and was then told the total charge for the tailgate repair was $499.40. When I questioned the excess charge, the service person (not Amiee Hunter) told me that it was $189.95 to just diagnose the car, and the balance was to complete the repair. I asked to speak to Amiee, but the person said she was not available to speak in person. She called Amiee and Amiee said she never told me that it would cost $270 total, but that she told me it would cost $499. Because I was in a rental, I basically had to pay the $499 to get my car or I would have had to leave and return the next day, incurring another day of rental car fee. The next day, I called back to talk with Amiee and asked her why she quoted me $270 over the phone and she told me she didn't say that. I told her I was going to make a complaint and hung up. She called back after that and agreed to refund $95 of the original $499.40, saying she has made an error in charging me. I am extremely unhappy with their service for a number of reasons. First and foremost, I am extremely unhappy with the tone and manner in which Amiee spoke to me and the fact that she quoted me a lower price on the phone and then lied and said she didn't. Had she told me the correct total price, I would have likely declined the repair since the tailgate issue was only intermittent. Additionally, Amiee treated me as if I were old and incompetent, of which I am neither and seemed to disrespect me because of my ethnicity and the fact that English is not my native language. Lastly, all of this occurred AFTER a 60,000 check up *and* having my car already several weeks at this point for other repairs. At this point, I have no faith or confidence in Garlyn Shelton and am questioning using their company for future service. read more

I purchased my 2020 XC40 in Walnut Creek, California. Excellent sales team and service department. I moved back to Texas and took my XC 40 to Garlyn Shelton, Volvo in Temple, TX. Worst experience ever! Service writer did not listen to any of my concerns, sent the Service Manager to speak with me. After that experience I had decided to go to Austin for my next service. Got home and realized they did not change my windshield wipers, that I paid for. Coming home from a Thanksgiving gathering a heard a horrible noise, thinking I had a flat tire and I pulled over. The lower engine cover was not properly reinstalled and was dragging on the ground! Had my son come and "zip-tie" back on so I could get home! NEVER AGAIN! read more

Bought a car in May 2019. Came with a 3 year warranty that included 3 annual head to toe maintenance. Went for my 3rd today, and I was told "so I know you bought your car in May but we start counting the day it's dropped at the lot, which was April 30th, so you're going to pay [hundreds of dollars] for today's services". Dumbfounded, I said whoa, so if the car was dropped on January 1, and you didn't sell it until April 10th, that buyer would lose out on over 3 months of warranty work???? That's got to be criminal. Called and made an appointment for a critical safety recall event involving the driver's airbag. Showed up on time for the scheduled appointment, waited for some time, and then was advised that the required parts were not in stock. An 86-mile round trip for nothing. Unprofessional, unacceptable, and highly inconvenient. Prior to making the appointment all they needed to have done was first check the VIN of my car against the service bulletin and then check for on-hand or readily available parts. They failed to take this fundamental step. For the record, let's hope that the airbag doesn't deploy before the parts arrive. read more

I started coming to this dealership instead of going to Austin and have had very good service. I worked with Amiee and she communicated every step of the way. The technician that worked on my care worked late to finish. I was not disappointed at all with this dealership I am however disappointed with Volvo. I have owned a Volvo in the past and it ran for 200,000 miles with very little problems My car is only 4 years old and the air conditioner just went out -very expensive And needed a new torque rod. read more

Not accredited by the Better Business Bureau for good reason. DO NOT USE FOR SERVICE!!!!!! They have quoted my three different prices and will not stand by the one quoted when I authorized service. Now they have broken my car and state that is was coincidence that it broke while in the shop. I am not buying it. I have looked at various other places for reviews and discovered this is a common issue. I am going to be out over $1000 more than I was quoted. It is going to take me months to pay it off and I will still need to fix the item they broke. Lucky the car is drivable. I can not afford the almost $500 they want and will need to wait until this crappy service is paid off. read more

One star is far too generous for this dealership, specifically the service department. The staff are very smug and treat customers like crap. If you raise a concern, they essentially tell you to kick rocks, sucks to be you, they will only do things their way. They have an appointment system, but it's a joke. You may have an appointment first thing in the morning and arrive ahead of time, they might get to your car in the middle of the afternoon. If you are outside their shuttle service area, are a one car household and work by the hour, sucks to be you. Might as well tell your manager you'll be gone and until you get back, could be days later. The straw that broke the camels back was when I needed my battery serviced. I scheduled my appointment (already knew it would be a joke) so I could get the issue DIAGNOSED, waited around a few hours and then was told by the staff that they had no idea when they'd get to the car, but they'd call you by the end of the day. I got lucky and was able to get a ride home. No call that night, half-way through the next day I MYSELF called them and they said they'd have to have someone call me. Hours later I finally get a call. The cost for the battery service was outrageous and I decided to do it myself. I had to go back the following day to collect my car, about 60 hours after I initially scheduled my appointment. You are a joke to them, they don't care about you, will mistreat you, and treat you like scum stuck to the bottom of your shoe. Save yourself the headache and hassle, take your business somewhere else. You'll thank me. read more

Poor communications. I normally take my Volvo to Austin who could not get me an appointment for weeks. I had an extended Volvo warranty which has to be done at the dealership so I drove to Temple. This is a small new dealership but doesn't seem to understand about communicating with the customer. I took my car in for two error messages to be diagnosed under warranty. They needed parts for one repair and decided the other repair wasn't covered under warranty. They charged me for the diagnosis without notifying me there could be any charge. Would definitely recommend!!! I recently leased a XC60 and Drew went above and beyond any expectations I had going into the process of getting new car. After months of searching and visiting at least a dozen dealerships, he was the first and only one to actually listen and help me find the vehicle I wanted. Unlike other dealerships, he didn't try to push me towards something that happened to be conveniently sitting on the lot. Even though there were a few trades that fell through, I never doubted that Drew and Tony, his sales manager, were doing everything that they could to get me in exactly what I wanted. My Experience since end of august, leased car everyone was nice, then problems begin within 10 days of having vehicle. This is a 2019 volvo S60. 5000 miles. What I have experienced over the past 3 months. Navigation failure x3 still not repaired. Electrical digital systems failures, phone does not answer, bluetooth does not respond, child door locks activate by themselves. Battery 12 volt system discharges by itself for no reason. Warning to stop car as safely as possible. TPMS- tire pressure monitoring system fails to reset, and shows system malfunction after 45 miles of driving. Door Speaker failure. Brakes fluctuate under normal breaking. Volvos response, let me give you another one, with no guarantee that it wont happen again. Just false promises. Then they get offended, because the Customer refuses to accept thier offer, and now the strong arm begins Forcing someone to drive a product that has proven to be a complete failure. Since I didnt accept the offer now the customer service stops. No one talks to me. Have a rental from them, thats nice, but paying for a car thats sitting in service, and now they refuse to take new work orders on the car, but issues are still there. read more

We have been using Garlyn Shelton Volvo for service to our Volvo C70 for the past 4 years. The service department has been consistently great at providing exceptional service. Never had a bad situation on any service issue. They fixed them correctly and promptly. Has always been very courteous and quick to offer loaner vehicle when one was available. We have purchased a new Cadillac and a new GMC truck from the same auto group and have experienced the same excellent service at those locations. They have won our loyalty and we will purchase our replacement vehicles from one of Garlyn Sheltons dealerships. I highly recommend them for your next auto experience. read more

The service guy is very nice and friendly, the people that answer the phone are always helpful, and so far they have always gave me a fair deal with my repairs. Recently, they repaired a leak I had and I was charged a little above $20, that is unheard of. I could have been easily been over charged but I wasn't. Horrible, horrible experience. The salesperson was a little punk who was controlled by the sales manager. Sales manager had an appointment with us and never bothered to show up, nor personally apologize for his screw up. Then, they had us sign for the wrong car...which resulted in having to sign again the next day. It took them two months (we already made a payment) to acknowledge they had destroyed the first set of paperwork. Would not even respond to email for verification. Stuff went south even faster....we called at least 15 times asking about the registration and after no response and weeks gone by, the finance manager says he is going to be our savior and help us out...bovine excrement. He was worse and only responded maybe twice...and I had to specifically mention that he needed to call me. We ended up going to get our own registration, put our own license plates on and those idiots did not even give us the nuts, bolts, or anything to put them on...had to go buy that too. Bottom line, this place sucks and it is not the cars, it is the ineffective and very weak and scared managers that do not care what the customer wants. I will never go back and I warn anyone else that once you sign, it is "F($l you" as you walk out the door. Go to Volvo of Austin where they are much more friendly. So, if you are in the market for a used Volvo I would STEER CLEAR of these guys. We purchased a 2016 Volvo S60 which appeared to be very clean even though they had put a deodorizer in the car. Major red flag!! After a day or two of owning the car, we discovered a very strong cigarette smoke smell. This was NEVER disclosed to us. Upon asking about the smell and inquiring what could be done this dealer was silent!! Finally they attempted to return phone calls and emails, but ultimately never followed through with any of the "promises". It appears once they close the deal, you mean nothing! We even reached out to the General Sales Manager and he also could give a damn. DO NOT BUY A USED CAR FROM THESE GUYS!!! They are deceptive and do not care about you as the customer. read more

Even with keeping the salesman and finance person VERY late on Saturday they were very pleasant and so very accommodating. Typically the car buying experience stinks but this has been very different. I highly recommend taking your time and money to this dealership. Craig was our salesman and he was awesome. Landon was the person we dealt with in the financing office and he was great as well! Since we were there so late on Saturday, my vehicle hadn't had the detail and I took it in on Monday morning and was handed keys to another vehicle to take home so I didn't have to sit there for hours with 3 kids. I brought in my old Volvo XC 90, it still only had 73k in miles, I loved this car. Being disabled has its challenges a great seat for a bad back is the great unknown. My repairs reached above the value of my car. I agreed to come look at what they had. Now the part that makes me want to cry. No used Volvos so then I find myself in the BMW area. Not having any used Volvos is a grave error, I quit buying new cars years ago. Next you can pick up my story on Tuesday, January 24, 2017. When I make sure everyone knows how this story ends because this is the bright spot. The service at Garlyn Shelton Volvo is top notch. I had an issue with my driver's seat because my lazy self left an orange juice bottle on the back seat floor board and when I moved the seat all the way back to retrieve a dropped card, the bottle got wedged and caused the seat to be stuck all the way back. Even though I didn't have an appointment and the Volvo tech was booked up, Eric at the services counter found a way to get my seat fixed without having to order parts the same day I called. I was so glad because I couldn't reach my pedals without stuffing a big pillow behind me. read more
