I should've known when I sat down and noticed 57 and A1 sauce on the table. However, the menu said "market price" steaks. That implies quality. However, they serve select steaks at choice prices. Restaurants like this give red meat a bad name. High prices for low quality. I ordered Prime Rib ( Market Price ) I should have asked. 16oz. With 1/2 potato ( cubed and seasoned ) $50.00. We finished eating waited over 10 minutes until the waitress came back then asked her for a to- go box and bill. She never came back. After another 10 minutes my wife went to the bar and asked for a to-go box and the bill. We did finally get that taken care of, but certainly would not recommend anyone to go there again. I'd probably give the Steakhouse a 3.5 for the Friday night fish fry. Good price for all-you-can-eat. The tartar sauce didn't have tang, but it's kind of optional for me anyway. Fish was pretty decent, certainly better than what I've had at Angler's. Reading recent reviews gave me pause. I come up to this area about every year and have been to the Steakhouse many times. Last year, with a party of ten, was a challenge. They said the lack of help was to blame. However, my wife and I enjoyed an impeccable dinner this evening. Natalie did a phenomenal job taking care of us. None too hurried but , at the same time attentive. The steaks were perfect. Cooked Pittsburgh, charred on the outside but perfectly medium rare on the inside. The martinis were excellent, mine, dry Old London is easy but my wife's Cosmopolitan was superb. This is the Hayward Steakhouse I have come to love over the years. read more

By definition burnt ends are brisket point that guess back on the smoker with some brown sugar and butter to add more flavor as it's fatty and can't handle the heat. This is just cubed brisket flat that never saw the inside of a smoker and was tossed under a salamander with done suace, very disappointing and flavorless. The chicken parmesan over fettuccine was just fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. I implore management to Google chicken parmesan but they know they are just inflating menu items through false naming. I consider myself lucky for not ordering a steak, which I can only assume is ground beef that has been pressed into a steak shaped model before it gets popped in the microwave. I'm giving three stars for the service. The food was mediocre at best. A few things.. scallops should be rested and dried before cooking. Crisp the bacon if you're offering bacon wrapped anything. You a achieve this by par cooking the bacon prior to wrapping. Twice baked potato was inedible. Dry and hard. Steak.. not seasoned. If you're doing mushrooms with steak please cook them through and Bella's over white caps. Your garlic potato soup would be superb blended and topped with crisp bacon, onion or garlic. Went here for New Years Eve 2022 dinner with family. We had a reservation for 6:30 PM. Arrived at 6 so we had a couple drinks in the bar before. Excellent Old Fashion. We were seated promptly at 6:30. The restaurant was maybe 1/2 full. Waited half an hour before we even saw our waiter. We all ordered an appetizer and. Soup or salad. We all also order the same NY Strip. One hour later our soups & salads arrived. Didn't get our appetizer for another 45 minutes, but only after we asked where it was. Never had anyone clearing off our table till we stopped a bus person. As the clock approached 9 PM we still hadn't seen our main meal. Not used to waiting 2 1/2 hours for food. To add insult to injury there were several tables seated over an hour after we were there that were all served before us. We paid for what we ate & left. While they did offer to comp our meal, who expects to wait that long to eat? Not acceptable to us. I don't blame our waiter as we could see he was constantly moving. I do blame who ever was responsible for managing that restaurant. Someone should have making sure the bus people were circulating & clearing table instead of standing in the corner. Someone should have been checking and seeing how every tables order was progressing. This is a white tablecloth restaurant, not a Dennys so you'd expect an appropriate level of service. I requested to go out for a fish fry which for me happens once in a blue moon (or a blood moon) as I'm not that big of a fish person. I ordered 1/2 and 1/2 who's was both broiled and deep fried haddock. I tasted both pieces of fish w/o tarter sauce and it was so good I barley used tarter sauce for the remainder of the fish. I would go back here for a fish fry anytime I'm visiting the Hayward area. Chicken had a nice herb flavor to it and French fries were crispy as I like them. For $14 you get all you can eat fish and chicken, coleslaw or soup, a basket of rolls, and a side of potato/fries or wild rice blend. My husband is a rib lover and has tried them all over the U.S. He usually orders a rack and takes 1/2 home for lunch the next day. I went to take a picture of his ribs and they were half gone before I even started eating. He didn't stop so no leftovers. He gave me a taste and they were smokey and tender with a sauce that was just enough sweet and spicy. They have a bar area that is next to the dining area and has its own menu that looked interesting and they have 50% off appetizers for happy hour. Sadly this will be the last time eating at the steakhouse. Stopped in to try one last time to give it a chance. $50 dollars later I could have stayed home and ate. Soup= actually nice Bread= solid as a rock Brisket nachos= for a $16 app, wasn't even hot. brisket was this dry cold chewy pieces cut into strips instead of cut up for bite size pieces. almost no cheese. about 10 black olives. an 1/16 of an onion. good amount of jalapenos and two cups of salsa. oh and 3/4 of a pound of stale chips. Fish Fry= barely hot even though it was just fried, tasted like last weeks. no flavor, soggy, undercooked. Baked fish was like it was cooked at noon thrown in a pan and served out of that. dry dry dry. Baked potato was definitely from last week not hot, dry, and again not even cooked. Salad= well lettuce with dressing. Molten lava cake= again I know its not homemade but not hot. doused in chocolate Hershey's. Service= hey they tried, maybe they knew the food sucked. If the cooks actually spent more time in the kitchen instead of walking around staring at guest and going outside to smoke the food might actually be edible. 4 other tables in the restaurant. so no rush!! Super disappointed! I understand every thing is understaffed. Maybe don't take so many reservations! Very nice place, however very expensive. Then they charge 3% to use a card on your hundred dollar bill. Waitress was not super friendly. Never refilled our pop. We had New York strip that had a huge sinder going through the middle. I had to spit out first 3 pieces because you can't chew that. Manager reassured me that was totally normal and offered to make a new steak. We were very disappointed in our visit last night. My husband ordered the new York strip, medium rare. First of all, all steaks are "market price". $44 for the steak. Don't mind paying if the steak is good. Steak came out first time, raw-blue. Waitress took it back and was gone around 10 minutes. Brought it back, my husband cut into the thickest part, and it didn't look like they did anything. Still blue. Waitress came back and said"I don't know what it should look like, but they do temp it in the back". Took it back again - this time it came back charred, and done, but it was so salty-i believe from the char, that he barely ate any of it. Waitress brought our check, and my husband said to her, I can't believe they didn't make an adjustment to bill for all of the back and forth, and then him not even eating it. Her comment was" yeah, they should tip me, for having to bring it back and forth 3 times". Who says that! Should have read the reviews before we went as I would not recommend anyone to come here - first off was the long wait time. We were seated quickly, but food took over 90+ min to come out. And after all the wait time the food came out COLD. We started with soup (lobster bisque) that had 0 lobster meat and absolutely no lobster flavor - they should have called this salty tomato bisque. Don't get it. After waiting so long for our entrees, we had extremely cold dry brisket nachos, a lot of bones in the tasteless blue gill filets, and cold potatoes. The salmon did have good flavor but the cold potatoes didn't help. When speaking to the manager about the cold food and long wait time she was extremely rude. She didn't believe there were bones in the fish and told us she never got any complaints (well here is a big fat complaint as they contained a lot of bones). And she gave us a very snarky condescending comment about the wait time that "this place was not McDonald's". We understand certain times can get busy, but the restaurant was not busy when we got there and tables seated after us even got their food quicker. Even if it did take a while, serving us cold food was unacceptable. The way management treated our feedback was despicable and uncalled for. 0/10 would not recommend anyone to go here, management should do better. read more

Just went to their Mother Day Buffet and it was underwhelming to say the least. Waited about 10 mins to be seated with a reservation. It was a small menu for a high price so my expectations were high with the items included. We waited about 10 minutes for the waitress to show up. On my families first trip through the buffet there were scraps of cold steak. Our second trip they were out of Shrimp Scampi pasta and steak so we waited 5 minutes for them to bring out more food. When they finally did bring out more food the line of people waiting was long so I know I was not the only one a little annoyed with the situation. The man running the steak station was cutting the meat into weird pieces and portions. When I got back to my table the bill was waiting. I notice that with a 25 dollar charge for the buffet they still charge for drinks on top of that. So I cut into the steak only to find its blue in the center. I spit it out and am a little upset at this point. I go to eat the shrimp and find out they hadn't taken the shells off all the shrimp. I stop a lady walking around that looks manager like and tell her about my experience. After about 5 mins of back and forth she basically said she could go cook steak to my liking but she was not taking any money off my bill. After having being there for an hour at that point I did not think my family would want to wait around for that. At the cash register the hostess asked how everything a was and I told her my experience and she went and got the same lady I had talked to before. She introduces herself as the owner and said she already talked to me and said my waitress told her that I said everything was fine and the cooks said everything on the buffet was temped at 180F. I said thats impossible because that steak was served to me raw. She then asked me if I have every worked in the restaurant industry. I replied with yes a number of restaurants(my parents/grandparents/aunt/friends owned restaurants). She then tried to insult me by asking if it was Mcdonalds. I said ma'am I'm sorry you feel this way and are in this situation. You are in but you are going to get people sick serving them raw meat, there were at least a dozen people in line waiting for steak ahead of me who were served under cooked meat. She got super angry at that point and started yelling that shes done dealing with people like me and the price of the buffet was good for the food shes serving. i honestly missed the rest of it because she was walking into the next room in a fit. Beautiful atmosphere and my dinner was done perfectly. Enjoyed their 6oz filet black and blue which had a delicious blue cheese cream sauce drizzled over my medium rare steak. I added the garlic buttered button mushrooms, which were extra but worth it.I chose a wonderful Double baked potato very flavorful. I was on a fishing trip, stayed in Hayward, and decided to eat at this restaurant. This is a very unorthodox restaurant because it is actually a restaurant in a banquet hall. Ya, the place is huge. They do wedding receptions etc. Why do I mention this? Because it's a long way from the kitchen to the tables and the waitstaff move. Everyone from the servers to the bus people to the person in charge are hustling. And speaking of that person...he/she is checking people into their motel business at the same time they are working the restaurant. And doing so effectively! Okay....food....here we go. This place serves a bunch of stuff. Everything from a full appetizer menu to a child's menu. I passed on an app because I ordered the 24 ounce porterhouse. This came with salad, bread, and my choice of potato. I ate everything in site and it was delicious!! The steak was medium rare as ordered, The potato was yummy. And they have like 10 beers on tap, plus root beer. My tip is to order the Alaskan Amber with your steak....it was the perfect compliment. As a matter of fact I enjoyed myself so much that I changed my lodging to this place. The next night I stopped by the bar for a brewski and an appetizer. I went with the spicy steak bites- 7 ounces of cut up prime rib with cajun spices and it came with potato skins. It was happy hour (I was happy!!) and the app cost $5. The motel was only $80. No pool but what a bar!! As a side note...the room came with a roommate. A mule deer. I made a joke about using him for a coat rack and I don't think he took too kindly to it. The restaurant was not overly busy (thankfully so we were socially distanced) and everything was going well. The apps were very good (bluegill and bacon wrapped scallops) and the dinners as well. There was an overdone steak that was immediately addressed and a new, correctly done steak served without any problem at all The chicken and butternut squash ravioli was delicious and the beef tenderloin tips bolognese was good, though not a typical bolognese sauce. The service started out ok but went downhill. Marley never brought my husband's second wine (but it was on the bill) and after she dropped the bill off, we were waiting to address it with her. And we waited. And waited. She never returned and we started thinking she went home! After 20 minutes, my husband went up to the hostess / register and talked about having the wine that was never served removed from the bill. I saw Marley come in FROM OUTSIDE and she went over to the where my husband was talking to the hostess. She stood there and she heard what was being said (and done to fix her error) and never once apologized for not bringing the wine!! She could not have been less interested!! We are 25+% tippers so Marley could have made a much bigger tip had she put in a little effort. The person that took care of the bill (manager?) didn't seem too concerned about customer satisfaction either. The place is cool to look at, but the food was not good. I ordered a New York and it was slightly over cooked and flavorless. It's was not tasty. The fried bluegill was good but greasy, the oil they fried in was not hot enough. My son ordered the ribs and they were not edible, they were tough and the skin was hard. The waitress offered a consolation price of free desert to make up for the bad ribs but after an $80 meal you don't want a consolation price. I would never return. Didn't eat at the steakhouse because we heard it was over priced and not good. We did however stay at the lodge and we will never be staying there again. Room was not professionally cleaned, dust everywhere, cobwebs in the windows, built up dust on the bathroom ceiling fan, our sink was super slow to drain and the shower head was so clogged with soap scum the shower water sprayed at all angles. checking the bed.. absolutely disgusting.. the bed had looked like it had been slept in and the sheets just pulled up...hair, crumbs and dirt All over it. We went to strip the bed and the mattress protector was even more gross with yellow body sweat stains all over it, looked like it had never been washed. The sides of the our box spring had stains all over it. Went to ask for a new set of sheets and the lady was in the middle of counting down the steakhouse drawer so said she would be down in 15-20 minutes.. I get it things are slow, she was overwhelmed. She came eventually and gave us new sheets and a brand new in the box mattress protector Which we were SO thankful for. She apologized but we felt it was a half asses apology and I feel like more could have been done. It really shouldn't be a hotel that's almost $120 a night.. The second night I went to ask for towels.. it was after 8pm and the steakhouse was busy.. the Blonde lady who helped us the night before didn't even acknowledge my presence when walking in the door and then completely ignored me for 15 minutes to help others. I have done customer service before and you at least acknowledge the person, say you will be right with them etc... absolutely nothing until about the 5th group came in and noticed me standing there.. at that point I was just waiting to see how long it would take to look me in the face. She asked the people next to me if she could help them and they told her I was next.. it was then she asked me what I needed.. i was fuming but know how it has been with restaurants lately but an acknowledgement of some sort goes a long way! read more

Not a great choice for steak. Went there with a party of 4 for a 33 year anniversary. One rib eye, one filet, salmon and a fish fry. We had two drinks for 3 people (2 beers and two old fashions if you could call them old fashions). Everything including our French onion soup which we paid extra for was stone cold. However the fish fry was hot and I was told it was ok. We each took two bites of our meal, stopped eating and informed the waitress our meals were cold, and she immediately went to get the manager. In the meantime our fish fry eater finished his meal. The manager told us she would bring new steaks and salmon from the kitchen. We said no we wanted to move on because we already been there for quite awhile. We told her we would pay for everything we did have but not the cold two Steaks and Salmon. This is where everything went backwards. She came back with to go containers threw them on our table, actually right on top of my cold steak and told us pay the $200.00/plus bill or she would call the police. We said we would not pay for the cold food and she did call the police. My sister in law and I then went outside and let the guy's figure it out. When the police showed up he asked me if he was here for me and I told him yes, the guy's were inside and that's who he needed to talk to. Well that was a mistake, he proceeded to treat me like a criminal instead of a person who said nothing in the restaurant and did nothing wrong. He wanted my name and birth date and I said no, you need to go inside and that I would show him who he needed to see. That's when he put his hand on my shoulder as I moved towards the door and then blocked the doorway and said I will arrest you for obstruction of justice. I have to say by now I was getting a little angry. I said go in there and get the managers name, she's the one who caused all this and he said he would. I just laughed and said in this small town you know who she is and how many time has she done this. Again do you want to go to jail was his response. I relented and gave him my information and he told me not to go anywhere again I laughed, I'm 63 years old how far do you think I'm gonna run. He went in and I stayed outside and he told the guy's if you took a bite of it you must pay for it. How would you know it was cold if you didn't try it. Then my husband looked at the bill and we had been charged for two rib eye's at $64 each and only had one cold rib eye and one cold filet. Now that's theft by about $20 and my"filet" was 4-5 inches long, not a filet at all. In the end she took $100 off the bill, no left overs (which was okay with us) and ruined our anniversary night. We do own a home there and used to go there and love to support small businesses in the area but never, ever again. If you take anything out of this very long review and decide to go any way, take this one piece of advise, PLEASE CHECK YOUR BILL! Now I wonder how many times they overcharge people. While the waitress was nice and didn't get a tip because we weren't allowed to go back to our table and our food was whisked away before the cop could see how much we ate, service was extremely slow all around from the bar to the kitchen. Went here one night and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. Bar was only open as restaurant was already closed. Had the Butternut Squash Ravaoli with sage butter and it was good. Had a glass of wine all for under $30. Wasn't the best food I have ever had, but it was pretty good for the price and the service. We were just driving through on our way to Madeline Island and couldn't have asked for better service, atmosphere, and food at the Steakhouse and Lodge! My sister's wedding was here a few weeks ago, and it was just a wonderful venue for it. They were extremely organized and kept everything running smoothly and on time. They transitioned the dining room from being set up for the ceremony to set up for the reception very quickly. I also appreciated that dinner was served instead of being a buffet that takes forever to get everyone through. We were served quickly, and the food was delicious (we had steak, chicken cordon bleu, and pasta primavera). The bartenders, servers, and other staff were wonderful. I didn't stay in the lodge, but we did have a few rooms reserved, and it was super convenient to have that space available so close to the wedding. read more

Ordered Gibson martini and they did not have any onions so they brought olives. The rib eyes ordered medium rare was medium well. I ate some of it and showed the waitress Holly. She apologized and took my drink off the bill (keep in mind this was the drink that they were not able to make right to begin with). The steak fry potatoes were a hodgepodge of grease with onions and mushrooms. They overloaded plates instead of putting steak on one plate and sides on the other making it hard to cut. Holly forgot the wine until I reminded her and then almost poured the wine into my full water glass. Worst part about it all was a check was brought for the original bill and then a second one with the drink adjusted off. Not paying attention, we paid and tipped on both bills in cash. Once we arrived home and realized our mistake we called and were told the cash would be there the next day in the am. Upon arrival, we realized that Holly had still kept the entire tip amount for both bills. When we inquired with the manager, she shrugged it off and laughed about it.
