This may take a bit. My daughter is a senior in college, and I am 300 miles away. She had a noise coming from the rear. I told her that I just fixed the front brakes and that she probably needs "rear brakes". "Take it to a place near you, I am 300 miles away. She took it to Midas, and they proceeded to tell her she needed pads, rotors, and calipers all the way around. They never asked for the "lug nut lock key and said they needed to cut off all the studs and replace etc...$2900. The lug nut lock was in the glove compartment. I was ready to have a heart attack. I called them and told them (Midas) the front pads and rotors were just replaced. I personally just replaced the front pads and rotors 3 months ago and Midas proceeded to tell me that replacing everything was "recommended. After that, they lowered the price from $2900 to $2200. Really? $2200 to replace rear brakes on a 2008 Honda CRV....(I'm Sick) I could do it myself in a few hours and $200 in parts. I immediately looked for another mechanic in the area (even though I am 300 miles away). I saw Garrett Hill Auto service and called them with my predicament. I had already done the research for the cost of the parts, estimated labor and said to my daughter, "this should be no more than $600. And that is with markup, shipping costs etc....I texted my daughter and said there has to be someone that will give us a fair price. I was ok with even $800 at worst case I called Andrew from Garrett Hill Auto Service and explained my situation. I found him online and it appeared the reviews were from normal people like me. He told me to bring the car to him ASAP and he could look at within a week and that it sounded to him too like the Midas was on a mission to get the best of me. I am not made of money and the car was only worth $3000....for God sake. I called AAA and had car towed to his place from Midas within 2 hours. This was without an estimate but just a hunch that he sounded "Honest". (Thank you AAA) they used K&S towing. My daughter's car was safely at Garrett Hill by 5pm. Its was close, but Garret Hill stayed and waited for my car to be delivered (Thank You Hex), thank You So Much. K&S Towing said they take most vehicles to Garrett Hill and that they were the best. That tells you something and also made me feel better. So Anyway,,,I called Andrew this morning and he said the car was already fixed. Even though he originally told me he should be able to get to it early next week (today being a Friday before a BIG Snow Storm). He told me he would get back to me with the cost later in the day. Let's just say.... Garrett Hill Auto Service took care of me and my college attending daughter and saved me "well over" $1500 from what Midas was going to charge. Next day "Done". Daughter is back on road. My Daughter learned a great lesson. She was thinking that the "big box" stores are cheaper, safer, and better. What she learned is that when you find a small businessman like Andrew that is actually fair, does great work, and cares for us "normal people"...you need to make exceptions to the rule that they teach you in school. Keep these people in your mind, because they take care of us when others simply are looking for the extra $.... Thank You Andrew for what you have done for me and my family during this very difficult time as well. This is only my 2nd ever "review" of my life. Sometimes people need to know. Joe stopped what he was doing, took my tire off, dunked it and found leak right away. After some good conversation, I was back on the road in no time. I will be back for any future work I require. I needed to do my yearly checkup on my car and i took it to the local dealership. They found some rust. Told me it would not pass the checkup and it was totaled. I was devastated. Went to the Ardmore Toyota dealer because an alert light in my 2004 Prius was coming on when I was braking, walked out with a $2,600 laundry list of "recommended" parts/services, none of which seemed to address the problem I came in for. I called Garrett Hill and was greeted by the owner, who sympathized, and recognized that the dealership was basically just trying to sell me a whole new car. He kept my car overnight to check it out, and within a day he let me know just what needed to be worked on to keep my car running smoothly -- no trying to force bells and whistles. For less than half of the dealership's estimate, he did all the recommended fixes. Will absolutely recommend to anyone who wants an honest deal with honest businesspeople. read more

Look no further if you are looking for a honest repair! The only people that work here are the owner and one other mechanic. There's no parts department or service advisers to suck even more money out of you. You don't get any fancy invoices or anything like that. The guy hand writes invoices at the end of the day. He will be more then happy to go on a ride with you to diagnose your concern and will most likely life your car up on the lift while you are there to try and see what's wrong. He will look up your cars recommended maintenance schedule and follow it for you as well. My only tip is to make sure you specify what kind of parts you want. The guy is more then happy to get you oem parts if you request them. If you don't, you will probably get some no name brand that is still ok though. Do yourself a favor and drive past the shiny dealership service garages and come here. Sometimes he takes care of minor stuff for free and I've literally had to leave money on his desk because he won't take it (no joke). read more

This guy was great. Something was squeaking everytime I turned the wheel and I'm new to the area so like an idiot I took my car over to Midas. They told me it'd be 600$ to fix. After researching the issue on Google I went into Garrett Hill with a little more knowledge hoping that the fact that I'm a 20 year old girl wouldn't mean they'd take advantage. He knew I was bluffing right away but still was extremely nice and honest. He was working the shop alone but still took me RIGHT AWAY. He told me the issue wasn't hugely serious and sent me on my way after telling me that if I decided to take care of it it would be $130. Including labor. I've been here twice, once for an oil change and more recently for my first PA car inspection (jersey driver). I was so nervous that I'd be slammed with loads of unnecessary repairs on my 8 year old car, but I was pleasantly surprised to hear I didn't need anything. My daughter goes to college near Garrett Hill Auto. A few weeks ago she called and said her LR2 would not start and every light on the dash was on. She called AAA who tried to start it and told her the car had major electrical problems. With her being so far away, I was not sure what to do and was ready to be seriously taken advantage of by some shop I did not know. The coil on my #2 cylinder blew out causing it to drive really rough and the "check engine" light to come on. They diagnosed the problem, ordered and replaced the part, dropped in new spark plugs, and gave it a quick tune up with just an hour of labor (plus parts). The car runs as good as new. Drove from out of state to purchase a car in the area & wanted to find a place to do a pre-purchase inspection. Garrett Hill was the only place close by that was open on Saturdays. I called beforehand & made sure they had time to look at it, they said to go ahead & bring it over. The guys were very nice, knew their stuff, & put it up on the lift to look things over as well as take it for a short test drive. They gave it a thumbs up & afterwards we had a nice chat before I let them get back to work. Best of all they were super cheap--especially compared to what places charge where I'm from.
