Picked up a couple of bags of the Garrett Mix to bring home. The staff was friendly and there was no line, so I had no worries. Of course I opened the smaller bag on the plane and it was as good as I remember. I'm partial to the Garrett mix, half cheese, half caramel corn, it sounds odd but it is delicious. Didn't have time in Chicago to stop at any Garrett Popcorn Shops because there were always 20 ft lines out the door! Because my flight was delayed, I had some time to explore and found my way to this shop. Grabbed a small bag of pecan caramel crisp, which is essentially one large scoop, and it did not disappoint! I had expected it to be dry, soft, overly sweet BUT the popcorn crunched easily and was flavored very nicely; the pecans were also a good complement. Don't come here for simple popcorn. The plain popcorn and service are terrible for the price. It is foamy, not crisp, and expensive. I used to get a simple bag of popcorn from a vendor when passing through O'Hare. This time I didn't see the old vendors and tried Garrett. The buttery corn is made with coconut oil and probably food coloring and not real butter. I chose plain instead. The lady asked whether I wanted salt and I said yes and pepper if available. I discovered later that she did not add salt and had to come back to request it. I think this store caters to people who want sugar coated popcorn which doesn't depend so much on the crispiness and freshness of the underlying popcorn. I've received those as gifts in cans and they're good, but I prefer unsugared corn. read more

This review is for my 1st visit to this location at Chicago's O'hare airport. I've been to the other locations in downtown Chicago. Environment: well, it's the airport.....so it is great for kids and adults. The line wasn't too bad. Took 12 minutes from in and out. But it's a smaller location, so the staff is slightly less. Taste/Food: the batch was fresh. They poured it right in front of me. I got caramel crisp and then another batch of mixed cheese and caramel crisp. It was exactly the same as the locations in downtown. Price: it's very well priced, but the pecan is more expensive. If you buy a tin tub, then it can be pricey. I didn't buy a drink to go with It's definitely worth going to! It was nice not having to deal with parking and waiting in a long line like the other locations in downtown. They make popcorn fresh daily (including at this airport location where you can see them making the popcorn in a back kitchen). The lines at this airport were not that long though when the terminal is busy, you could see a few more people in line. Similar to their other locations, this Garret Popcorn has a glass counter with several popcorn flavor options. For sizes, they have a good range of sizes and the small is more than enough for two to three or maybe even four people. Prices here might be a little more than what you would pay at one of their locations in the city, but that is to be expected given that it is in an airport where chains typically have higher-than-normal prices. They have several flavors of popcorn; there are also nuts (including nuts in little bags, which would make good in-flight snacks). The three popcorn flavors that seem to be the most popular are the caramel, cheese and butter. The signature flavor combination here is the Chicago Mix, which combines their caramel popcorn with their cheese popcorn for a sweet and savory combination. While I am not sure if it works as a really great combination (it is definitely different), the popcorn as well as the individual flavors stand out. The popcorn has a very strong buttery and sweet fragrance so I am not sure if your bags or other passengers will appreciate you bringing it onto the plane. The other good thing is that despite this shop being in an airport, the standards of flavor and freshness are maintained. Garrett Popcorn is a must try if you find yourself in Chicago. I was on board our aircraft during a ferry flight, when one of my crew members offered me some popcorn. I know you can purchase this on line as well, but it is much more expensive this way. If you cant get to Chicago though, it is absolutely worth it to order it via the Internet. Iconic caramel and cheese popcorn stand located inside the departure terminal 1. Stopped by here to get souvenirs - there are both tins and bags available. Apparently the popcorn lasts for two weeks in the tin. You order what flavor, what size (small, medium, large, and jumbo), and whether or not you want it in a bag or a tin (you also get to pick your tin). There were two people working - one scooping hour popcorn and the other ringing you up, so even though there was a line of about five people when we got there, it moved pretty quickly. The cashier was nice enough to grab us more popcorn in a small bag when we realized they vacuum seal the tins and we wanted something else to snack on. As for the popcorn, I really enjoy the salty-sweet combination. They let you try a sample of popcorn but just go with the Chicago classic mix. When someone mentions visiting Chicago to me, one of the first things my mind will turn to is Garrett Popcorn... and begging them to bring a bag back for me. My friend who was picking me up at the airport when I arrived in Lexington asked if I would stop into Garrett Popcorn and hook him up with a Chicago Mix aka Garrett's Mix of corn. I said sure. There was a long line of people waiting so I thought all these people can't be wrong. As I am standing in line and ask for it, I see it is caramel and cheese corn. They fill the bag half and half and mix it for you. WTF? Really? Caramel and cheese? Either way, I ordered him a jumbo and me a small just to say I tried it. HOLY SCHNIKIES I wish i would have bought more for myself. Taking a piece of cheese and a piece of caramel was like heaven. It was so super yummy. I couldn't eat it fast enough it seemed. That coming from a non popcorn lover even..says something about a product. So good. If you see a shop somewhere, stop and buy it. you won't regret it. I rarely fly in or out of terminal 3, but when I do I choose Dos Equis...I mean, Garrett's! Garrett's is the granddaddy master of specialty corn in the Chi. Nuts On Clark is a close second, and to be frank, I don't really recall the difference between the two. This is likely because I'm too busy shoveling the Chicago mix in my mouth and trying not to wear the telltale neon orange cheese and caramel dust all over my person. Ok, so I use to be a huge Garrett's fan, but in the last year I've gotten the popcorn from there on several occasions and it has been really bad. So I finally feel like I have given it enough chances and it does only deserve the 1 star. 1st of all when paying $$ for popcorn I would expect it to stay fresh for at LEAST 3 days. No way! After an overnight it starts to become stale. And that 2nd night you either finish it or throw it away. 2nd the hauls in the popcorn are out of control. I have established a rule for myself that I won't give any place five stars until I have been there at least three times. This place gets five stars on a technicality! Visit #1...coming back from India with my co-workers and two of them jetted over to this location in Chicago's O'Hare airport. No, I am not in the mood for popcorn. Seriously, what is the big deal. . .it is popcorn. Didn't try it. Visit #2...one of my co-workers had her niece bring some from Chicago. I walk off my plane into the AA terminal at O'Hare and there it was....freshly popped gourmet popcorn. It called to me and I answered. "Small mixed bag, please". I resisted eating it until I was home in San Diego (it helped that I was in first class so they fed us) but when my sister, bro-in-law and nephew picked me up, they were like "what is that?" So I busted out the popcorn - a mixed bag is cheese popcorn mixed with caramel corn. Sounds weird but it works. We all loved the popcorn and ate the majority of it by the time we got home. There was still a little in the bag this morning, my sister was convinced it would be stale because we left it out.
