Came from out of town and decided to check this place out. Started off with their sourdough. The butter on this thing was delicious! Highly recommend. Then we had a margharita pizza and some pasta. The pasta was tasty (got the sausage bucatini) but the pizza was FANTASTIC. It was perfectly cooked. I'm not kidding when I say it's one of the best pizzas I've had. We came on a Friday at 5ish and there were plenty of seats although we did have a reservation. Interior is beautiful. Perfect for a date night, dinner with a friend, or bringing your family. Kelcey was our server and she was fantastic (and was really good with kids!). Can't comment on parking as we walked there. Sat at the bar and the bartender was super helpful right away -- recommended the malloreddus and suggested a red wine to go with it. Both were spot on. The pasta had this rich tomato sauce with burrata on top, really hearty and delicious. The wine pairing made it even better. Also got the oysters which were phenomenal. Honestly the bartenders made the whole night. Friendly, knew their stuff, and made a solo work trip dinner actually fun. A fantastic meal with my mother at what I'd call a true local gem. The atmosphere is warm and inviting with plenty of bar seating and tables that give it that homey neighborhood feel you don't always find anymore. We opted to sit at the bar in front of the wood-fired oven, which turned out to be a great call. Watching the kitchen work was half the fun with pizzas and dishes coming together right in front of us. The drinks menu is impressive too, with a large selection of beers on tap plus wine, cocktails, and mocktails. For food, we kept it simple and shared our way through the menu. The Farm Green salad was crisp and fresh, pa perfect starter. Then came the asparagus, roasted in the wood-fired oven and served with a sauce that elevated the whole dish. We finished with one of their wood-fired pizzas, and it did not disappoint. Everything had that subtle smoky char you only get from a real oven. Service was excellent from start to finish. If you're looking for a spot that feels like a neighborhood staple with food that actually delivers, this is it. read more

We stayed at a hotel around the corner and wanted to find a local place for dinner. We found this place and thought it would be a good place to eat. There wasn't a lot on the menu that I wanted and wasn't in the mood for their specialty pizzas, their signature dish. My son and I had the farmer's burgers and both were outstanding. In fact, perfect. I highly recommend these burgers. My wife had the gnocchi which had a lemon taste and she loved it. I would give this place 5 stars for the food, but the menu is somewhat limited if you don't want pizza and the bartender was very standoffish. He looked like he wanted to be somewhere else. I would give him the benefit of the doubt, but he was that way with everybody who was eating at the bar. Still, I highly recommend the food here. Three words: wood-fired oven. Much of the menu at Prairie Fire is guided by the behemoth sitting squat in the center of the kitchen and for good reason. Why fix something simple when it ain't broken? Sometimes places can fall into the trap of trying to do too much. Prairie Fire is one of the few that can walk that tightrope, offering a raw bar, pizzas, pastas, a burger, seafood, and more. But everything we tried was delicious. I had an eye on so much on the menu but we ultimately went with the razor clam ceviche from the raw bar, a pepperoni pizza, the Maine lobster ravioli, and the mushroom toast (a crowd favorite). My favorites were the ceviche and the mushroom toast - do not skip it. The mushrooms are cooked perfectly and they slather a layer of parmesan aioli on the bread that cooks into it. Amazing. One of my best bites of 2025. Pepperoni pizza was pretty good but I still prefer the Neapolitan style. Have to come back to try so many other things - the Maine uni toast, the burger, the trout. The sourdough ice cream was a super unique dessert. They take the leftover butts of loaves and soak it in milk/cream and the result is almost like a less sweet salted caramel. Loved the textural addition of the poached pear. We were lucky to come around 5 on a weekend evening and snag some of the remaining bar seats but when we left, the place was completely full. Come early or get a reservation! Parking can be tough in Coolidge Corner; I recommend seeing if you can get a spot in Webster parking lot at the back of the restaurant. read more

Came here with out two Boston College kids. Got seated right away in the dimly lit room. We started with salads, both perfectly dressed, and then split the mushroom pizza, the sausage and fennel pizza, and a margarita pizza that we added pepperoni to. All was great. First time poppin in but we had it on our yelp list! We showed up before the dinner rush, right when they just opened for the evening. Being down the street in the area, the craving for pizza was real haha. We were seated promptly, waters and utensils. Our server was nice, checked in on us. The pizza was fennel sausage ricotta cheese and red onions! It was so good, the dough was great to eat all the way thru the crust. It also wasn't burnt crisp or mushy. The pizza dough was yummy, held well by the slice without all my toppings sliding right off and then flopping. We also got the steak tartare was great with Steel and rye (i believe from the Milton location?) sourdough bread toast. So yummy, must get for a starter! Then we took a look at their rawbar menu, ended up choosing the Tuna crudo. They have multiple proteins for this dish. Tuna is my favorite and the fish was actually cold and fresh. I mean, I feel like I can be a little picky when it comes to pizza because I really don't typically gravitate towards pizza when choosing what I wanna eat for any meal lol BUT it was sooo good! All of the toppings & flavors complimented each other so well in this dish & the dough was soft while still maintaining its shape when you go to pick it up to eat it. Honestly, everything we ordered was exceptional & tasted very fresh! We ordered the steak tartare & the tuna crudo to try, as well, & both were super fresh, very flavorful, & I highly recommend all of the dishes we ordered from Prairie Fire! Literally can't go wrong. I came in on a very busy Friday night where all tables were packed. The ambiance of the place is great for date night: it's low lit and has a sense of quality. Host and servers were all very nice and great to speak with. But sadly the food did not impress me. I had a large order with a margherita, mushroom, and kale pizza and while they were decent, they did not have the level of quality I expected from a nicer place like this. It felt like the wood fire was not evenly distributed on some parts of the pie so it felt very charred on certain parts. I also thought the mushroom and kale flavors were very overpowering and it made it more difficult to appreciate other parts of the pizza. I would be willing to come here again and try a non-vegetarian pie or probably skip the pizza all together and try something an entrees. Fingers crossed I'll have a better experience! read more

This was one of the first restaurants I tried when I moved to Boston and I highly recommend. Although it's not traditional Italian food you find in the north end, it's a nice restaurant. The smoked crispy potatoes reminded me of Spain's patatas bravas, they were super crispy! They forgot to put it in at first but apologized and gave it to us for free. I got steak and my dad got pesto pasta and both were delicious! For dessert I got a corn ricotta cake with raspberry sorbet. The waitress was friendly and the rest of the food came out quickly. I enjoyed the pasta and pizza the most for sure - solid entrees overall. The drink I got was also extremely strong which was nice! Overall, Prarie Fire was a good dinner experience. The 4 of us ended here because one individual in our party wanted pasta and another was gluten free. The menu appeared to meet everyone's needs. They also had a solid drink menu. Our picky pasta eater had the fettuccine. It included meat- Guinea hen ragu. I was initially concerned she wouldn't like it when she realized it wasn't chicken but she loved it. We enjoyed the shishito peppers and heirloom tomato appetizers. Our GF diner enjoyed the chicken while another really enjoyed the fennel sausage pizza. Probably the best pizza I've had in Boston. Walked in early evening on a Sunday. All tables were full, but we grabbed some seats at their bar. It's right where they make the pizzas so that was cool to watch. Three of us split 2 pies and that was a perfect amount. Highly recommend the Fennel and Sausage. First time I went, Danny was super awesome; second time around I forget who the second person was, but Chef Brad DOES NOT disappoint. The food was absolutely exquisite, I was forced to keep ordering food. I started out with three oysters, ugh beautifully cut. No sand, no problem. Mignonette was great The steak just melts off the fork. I say it's a sin to order a steak any other way besides medium rare--but that's just me. Naturally, Chef Brad does not disappoint. The mash was such a great compliment to the meat. I had to keep eating. Poetically enough, I felt like the guy from "Ratatouille" that has a flashback to his mom cooking him food; I was brought back by how much better it was than a lot of other steaks I've tried at restaurants in Boston. I asked the server what the chef likes making but doesn't get ordered that much. He said the scallop crisp dish that's seasonal--woahhhh it was just exquisite. I ordered one of the cordials on the dessert menu; unfortunately it wasn't my taste, completely subjective. I was able to switch it to the wine I had been drinking before. I apologized I didn't like it, and the woman with the beautiful Targaryen hair helped me stop saying sorry about it and switched it. Kept ordering the crispy fingerling potatoes and the sourdough ice cream--because it was a sin not to try it. The entire meal was really divine, the service was incredibly personable. read more

My family got off of our flight late afternoon, and this restaurant was very close to our hotel. No comments about parking around here as we used public transportation and Uber to get around. We were greeted by a friendly host and sat down right away since we went at an off time. The waitress was attentive and checked in often to see if we had any questions on the menu. We ordered the Calabrian Chili Pizza ($24) and Burrata Pizza ($23), and the food came around 15 minutes after we ordered. They were prepared at the counter close by and placed in the wood fired oven to cook, and the flavor definitely rubbed off on the pizzas! The pizzas were around 12 inches in diameter and cut into six slices - I would say a hungry person can eat an entire pizza. The Burrata Pizza was nice, light, and the Burrata was complemented nicely by the tomatoes and pesto. The Calabrian Chili Pizza was my favorite of the two - loved the pepperoni and tomato sauce combined with the chilis and honey was a flavorful combo. The pizzas were nicely charred and sourdough-forward, but it was still hard to justify the steep price. Come if you really like Neapolitan pizza, but otherwise, you can find other places around that are more worth it. read more

I had an excellent experience dining here for the first time! Our server was super attentive and very communicative about any dietary restrictions or allergies. The servers were constantly refilling our water and checking to see if we were doing okay. Four of us ordered 3 pizzas and 2 appetizers. This was plenty of food because we were all very full at the end and ended up taking half of a pizza to go. We started with some crispy potatoes ($13) and the mushroom toast ($18). Both dishes were so tasty! The crispy potatoes were like smashed fingerling potatoes-- super creamy and silky on the inside with a delicate, crispy skin on the outside. The mushroom toast had a nice balance between crispy toast, buttery aioli, and tender mushrooms. Both dishes were seasoned very well and had a good balance of flavors. For pizza, we got the margherita ($18), 'nduja ($20), and fennel & sausage ($21). I loved how they are not shy with the pizza crust, which was pillowy and fluffy! The pizza crust had a subtle sourdough flavor to it and was super charred on the outside. Some people might not be a big fan of this style, but I for sure love it! Decided to come here for our one year wedding anniversary after seeing all of the great reviews, but we came away from the experience unimpressed. It wasn't terrible by any means, but I didn't have too many really positive points, and the price for some of the dishes seemed a bit high. The actual interior design was quite nice, though the restaurant was a bit loud. We had a 6:15pm reservation and we were seated immediately in a nice cozy corner booth, which was much appreciated. The woman at the front desk was very pleasant and nice as well. However, after the initial welcome, the service at our table seemed a bit rushed and cold - there wasn't much small talk and there were several times where people came to our table to drop off food, take plates away, or refill water without saying a single word. It was a bit strange, and it felt a little like we were being quickly pushed out the door despite only being there for under an hour total. As for the food, we ordered: Wood roasted oysters ($18 for 4) - I was really looking forward to these, but they unfortunately fell a bit flat. The menu said that these had miso kombu butter and crispy garlic, but they ended up tasting solely of garlic butter, and each oyster was practically drowned in it. I would have liked a bit less butter on these, as the crispy garlic ended up soggy in the pool of butter. The oyster itself had very little flavor, and I couldn't taste any smokiness from the wood roasting. There was disappointingly no miso or kombu flavor, and for $4.50 per oyster, I would definitely not get these again. Margherita pizza ($18) - Probably the most reasonably priced item that we ordered, but it tasted a bit bland. The basil was fresh, the mozzarella was good, and the crust had a nice soft and chewy texture, but in my opinion it could have done with a bit of salt sprinkled on the cheese before melting or some salt in the olive oil drizzled near the crust. The dough itself was quite nice, but everything on top could have used a bit more seasoning. Margherita is my favorite style of pizza, but this was not one of the better ones I've had. Malloreddus ($32) - This was a pasta dish with smoked Maine mussels, baby fennel, sea beans, and roasted garlic butter, and it was probably the best tasting of the three dishes we ordered. However, the portion size for $32 was quite small - I would have loved a bit more of the pasta even without any additional mussels. And even then, mussels are considered a fairly inexpensive seafood, so the $32 price tag was a bit puzzling for the dish as a whole, but it did taste nice. The seasoning was on point, and the pasta itself was nice and chewy. It was a dense pasta which my partner didn't like as much, but I thought it was nice. There was a citrusy taste to it as well, and the smoked mussels were the best bite of the evening - they were large and plump with great briny and smoky flavor. The extra green bits added some nice bite to the dish as well - a nicely put together dish albeit a bit small portion-wise. All in all, it wasn't a bad meal, but there was little that was memorable from the evening and the service was strangely cold and distant. I give it a 3/5, and I will not be returning with the current menu. I am curious to try some of the other dishes that were not on tonight's menu but in the Yelp photo album (it seems they have a seasonal menu, which is very cool), however, so we may return for an updated review in the fall or winter. read more

Went w a party of five, and my partner and I got the wood-fired anson mills cornbread, squid ink fusilli, and burger - TASTE: 4/5 - the cornbread tasted comforting and the honey chili butter was a perfect side. Enjoyed the subtle combo of chili crisp and brown butter in the pasta. My partner was underwhelmed by the burger; thought the patty and fries could've been better seasoned, and wished the black pepper mayo came through more. The pieces of octopus and the fusilli pasta itself were tender. Had to circle back to update this review now that I finally ate inside the restaurant! TLDR: this place rocks and is definitely on track to become my new favorite spot in Brookline. I visit the neighborhood every few months to take my dog to a groomer nearby, so I'm always looking for fun spots to kill time. After eating in Prairie fire's pop-up patio in the summer, I was overdue for a visit inside the actual restaurant. As you might expect, the vibe is completely different from out back. It's super cozy with dark walls, warm lighting, and a long bar wrapped around half the space. The staff was so nice and very attentive--everything you want from a nice restaurant like this. Now for the important stuff; the FOOD! Sadly we only sampled apps this time around, but they definitely didn't disappoint. We went for a half dozen oysters from the raw bar (great quality with several kinds to choose from) and the Steak Tartare and Crispy Potatoes from the Appetizer menu. The potatoes were more of a side than an app, but the black garlic ranch on them is a must try. We had to ask for an extra side of it, it was that good. The Steak Tartare, however, was the star of the show. It's served on top of a thick and perfectly toasted piece of Challah, and is sprinkled with a generous serving of shredded cheddar. I've never had steak tartare prepared quite like this, but I definitely need to eat it again. I saw several pasta dishes and pizzas pass by our table that looked absolutely unreal as well, so I'll be back asap for a full meal. So happy I found this place! read more

Went for a pre-Valentine's Valentine's dinner and was very much wowed. This felt reminiscent of our favorite upscale pizza in New Haven, Da Legna's, with a bit more oomph. Loved the sharp cheese and spicy sausage (could it be nduja or a relative?) of the potato pizza and the liquid ricotta blobs with the sausage of the fennel sausage. The wood fired oysters were a lovely complement to the meal. The only minor disappointment was the bread pudding, which was good but not entirely exciting (the yogurty ice cream was nice, though).
