Came here on a Thursday night. Warm and cozy vibe. When we got there, the place was pretty empty, but filled up. The server we had was training someone and both of us worked in hospitality so we've been in both in both of their shoes. The chicken sandwich was really good, but only a couple of bits had the aioli. The Mac and cheese was disappointing. Unfortunately the service was lacking. We thought we had to be somewhere at a particular time. We had plenty of time as it was around 20 till and we wanted to be out by quarter after. We both noted about how the server never really checked on us and a table was seated next to us. At around 10 till we decided that we should get the check with desert just to be on the safe side... A table was sat down next to us and was being helped by the same server so we thought for sure we could put our desert order in and ask for the check. TWENTY MINUTES (30 total) since we decided that we would need to ask for the check because of the lack of attention, we had to keep looking around and fortunately another server came over as he could see we needed something. read more

1st visit on a Saturday evening: I thought it was strange that we got a call with a reminder and notice that evening was busy ("very booked")and our party (5) had to arrive on time & together in orderto be seated....ok? Pizza was very undercooked but safely edible but not well cut..?rushed? Asked for plates, given saucers- Salad was delicious.. the nachos had literally almost nothing on them. This is the new gem of Brookline Village! Since it's reopening Garrison House continually delivers a unique dining experience with excellent drinks, service , dining space and of course food! The downstairs "speakeasy" area boasts live music and amazing espresso martinis ! The menu is packed with tasty and varying dishes (my favorites are the poutine and the wings!) . So I was here for work and ate here almost every day, I love there southwest chicken. On Thursday though I ordered 2 to-go with no chipotle sauce. I wanted 1 for while waiting for my flight home (lunch) and then 1 for dinner (5.5hr flight home). I also ordered a Thai chicken wrap and the maple bacon brussel sprouts. Well, I am really sad I didn't check before leaving the restaurant with my to go order. The first southwest chicken was correct that ate while at the airport waiting for my flight but when I opened the second one for dinner I was really upset, it had the chipotle sauce on it and they forgot my avocado. I had to wipe off the sauce and I rinsed off the chicken but I am really disappointed. This place's food was so good and when I ate there the service was great and so were the cocktails. I am really sad that my last impression has been dampened. I am giving 4 stars because of the mess up with my to-go order but eating there i loved the southwest chicken, the maple bacon brussel sprouts are amazing and the Thai chicken wrap is good. For cocktails I like that the bartenders were able to make my Hugo spritz but I also had the espresso martini and the ice box, I love coffee cocktails. If I am back in Boston I would definitely eat here again but wouldn't trust them with to-go orders read more

Ok....where to start with this place? I will admit that the bartenders were wonderful. Very attentive and helpful. However, someone needs to teach them a few things about serving Guinness. First of all, they serve God's gift in a 16 oz regular ol' American pint glass. If this wasn't sacreligious enough, the bartender placed the glass under the tap and pulled it in a single shot, filling it to the rim and served it to us immediately. Sigh. Even after asking him to use the traditional two-step pour with a tilted glass he only tilted the glass, pulled it in one shot and put it in front of us. Double sigh. The Guinness was thin and didn't taste as it should either. Triple sigh. On a positive note, they did have a good selection of ol' standbys and newer local brews to choose from. (Which we forced to avail ourselves of). WHile we were deciding on a main, the hubby decided to order the nachos with (extra) chorizo. These were supposed to contain "blue corn tortillas, monterey jack cheese sauce, chili roasted corn, hot pepper relish, black beans, chipotle aioli, cilantro | $17". The only ingredient we could identify from the above list were the blue corn tortilla chips and a sprig of cilantro. The Monterey Jack cheese sauce (if that's what the orangey drizzle was) was COLD! There wasn't a bean to be found, nor aioli. There was some pickled peppers but they were not hot (temperature or spicy) so for $22 we got a handful a handful of corn chips with some unidentifable ingredients with some (not a lot) chopped chorizo on top. In short, it was laughable (except for the price). Now for the entrees. The hubby ordered the lamb Ragu, ($28) for which he had high hopes. Calling the serving small would be an exaggeration. It was also very lean on the lamb ragu sauce. Be forewarned full-blooded males: eat before coming here or you'll go home hungry. I ordered the mussels which were quite tasty and if I were to ever come here again, I would order. Sadly, that will never happen. The only memorable thing about the place (besides the lovely bartenders) was the bill: $143. Not including tip. Ugh. read more

I really wanted to like this place. The location is great and the atmosphere is nice. But the most important part, the food, was so disappointing. There is so much potential here but it just doesn't hit the mark. We got the Caesar salad, veggie muffuletta, and the burger. All were just meh. The Caesar was really bland (tasted like mayo in tue dressing...?) and served with stale bread. We asked for fresh bread and they made whole deal of it-- that was really weird. We never got it either. When the food arrived, the bread on the sandwiches was soggy and the Brussels we got as a side were undercooked. Also, calling that sandwich a muffuletta was really generous. It was nothing close to one. It was a soggy grilled vegetable and cheese sandwich. The only saving grace was the draft menu. They really need to work on the menu for me to ever consider returning. Solid pub in the heart of Brookline Village. Came here on a Wednesday night and was greeted with super friendly and explanatory staff, all fully masked and observing COVID protocols. Deep beer list, tasty cocktails, and very solid American fare. The mussels were luscious and paired with excellent fries (crispy, salty). Walked away from 2 drinks and 2 entrees at $80 after tax and tip. Great time! read more

bartenders were friendly but the bar was badly understocked. No Miller lite or Bud light. I asked for a Corona and was given a Corona Premiere without the bartender letting me know they didn't have actual Corona. ordered a Jameson and was given a substitute without being asked if I even wanted it because again the item was not in stock. read more

Wow! This is quite a fun little place. I stumbled upon this place with my partner and we had the best time! On Friday and Saturday nights they have live music at the downstairs bar which leads to a fantastic vibe. Overall atmosphere is pretty good with some very good cocktails on the menu as well. The service has always been an extremely pleasant experience. The poached peach salad was really refreshing and had complex flavors and textures rather than just throwing greens and fruit together. They also have small sides like the skillet Mac and cheese which was a perfect generous size for when you're there for the cocktails. The price is a little high than it should be especially for the sizes of the cocktails. I would definitely recommend going on the days the downstairs is open. Thats the whole charm of the place. They do stop serving food a while before they close so make sure to check that before you visit. read more

We stopped here for Sunday lunch with the family. Garrison house is beautifully decorated and its easy to see the bar is going to be the highlight. Service was attentive and they win points for customizing dishes for kids meals and its a family friendly place. I think the food needs a bit of work. We ordered the pretzel bites and they fell short. The bites resembled mini loaves of bread and the cheese sauce was cold and flat. My husband and I had the burgers and could have been better. The buns were tiny, the fixings were minimal and the fries were strangely cut, almost sloppy. I can not quite pin point it. The chicken tenders were home made but again taste was flat. It was a bit more expensive than it should have been for the amount and flavor of the food. We are going to come back bc its family friendly but I hope the kitchen works on the basics of the their food. Thats what fell short in my eyes. With a little tweaking, this could be a neighborhood gem and make up for matt murphys not being here anymore. read more

Service was slow even when there was no dinner rush, everything was/is overpriced, music was blaring, nachos at $18 with fake pump cheese was an insult. We asked for chicken on them and the menu said they included cilantro. Neither the chicken nor the cilantro was on them. Service was weird, awkward, and uncomfortable table side manner. We've been waiting for a good neighborhood place to open up in this space for a decade. I think we've got it. We've gone there a few times in the last month or so. Cocktails are really great. The bar tender certainly knows his gin. He brought four bottles to our table and talked to us about each before coming up with a delightful martini. Tonight we had the burrata salad with poached pears (trying to stay off the heavy stuff this January) and the mussels. Both were very tasty. Service is great. I'm hoping this place gets busier as we move out of covid and into spring. This has the makings of a hub for Brookline. read more

Nice spot visually, but the bar tender downstairs had no idea what he was doing. First, he didn't know if a Malbec was a red or white wine - and had to ask me to "point to it" on the menu. Also the wine was bad, and had clearly been open for too long. Another couple, who we spoke to as they were leaving, told us the same bar tender didn't know how to make a margarita or a basic martini. The food, beer, and service were incredible. My wife and I live in Newton and came here on a random Saturday night. We were greeted by a friendly host and we sat at the bar. There, I learned about the mug club where if you can drink all 75 taps (not all in one sitting obviously - you are limited to 5 a day) then you get in the mug club which entitles you to your own custom/larger mug and other member only events. I plan on going back and becoming a member over time. Such a nice ambiance and exactly what I'm looking for in a local bar. read more

Food was minimal considering how much you pay, and service was mediocre. Worst, however, was that they charge a hidden service fee - of course, this is AFTER you purchase your food and can't do anything about it (think bait-and-switch where they lure you with "low" food prices, then force you to pay extra when it's too late.). This is something I do not tolerate. If you want to pay better wages for your workers, it's YOUR job to pay them more, not mine. Increase the price of food and pay them accordingly, don't pull a bait-and-switch on me. read more

One word: CLASS. Everything about this place is absolutely incredible from the moment you walk in. I just recently moved into the area and stopped by the Garrison House (unknowingly amidst their first week open) and was treated like I was a lifetime customer. Fantastic and attentive service, notably when our dessert took a little longer, they proactively corrected the situation on our bill. The staff and management were friendly and responsive. The nachos and steak sandwich are especially tasty. Beer list is extensive, from hoppy to light & crisp. We'll definitely be back to explore the rest of their menu. New place in Brookline, same restaurant group as Five Horses. They have an outstanding draft beer selection and tasty food. We enjoyed the meatballs, steak, and short ribs. I think the best part of the short ribs was the brussels sprouts underneath that were cooked with lots of bacon and maple syrup. The restaurant is, as others have noted, a little pricey for a pub-type place, but if you're into beer, you'll like it here and beer prices seem in line. They have beer flights, which I am a huge fan of. At brunch they apparently have a mimosa flight. If you're on a budget don't come starving and order appetizers and beer. Also know that there are 2 levels with upstairs being normal bar atmosphere and downstairs they're going for the dark speakeasy vibe (recommend upstairs for socializing, downstairs for dates). The location is right off the 66 bus and Green D line so you can try all the beers and get home in one piece. read more

Had a last minute brunch with friends from ME and NH this weekend. The feedback was the pull pork hash, breakfast sandwich and Power Bowl were delicious. My wife and I were really excited to visit the Garrison House and our experience was overall positive with a hiccup at the end of our visit. The restaurant is really nicely redone from the previous restaurant and the staff is top notch and attentive from the moment you walk in. We started with the pretzel bits which was very good with the dipping sauces..we shared a Burrata salad which was quite a treat...i ordered the short ribs with Brussels sprouts on top sweet potato puree...omg it was tender and delicious my wife ordered the Salmon with risotto and thoroughly enjoyed it....I didnt mention the fantastic cocktail and beer selection . ...now I will mention the hiccup , at the end of our meal we ordered coffee and bread pudding for dessert , we received our coffee right away but for whatever reason we never received our bread pudding...the staff 3 different people apologized for the delay and we appreciated the attentiveness of the staff after 30 minutes or more after we got our coffee we decided to pass on the bread pudding....the restaurant was very busy so we chalked it up to possible staffing issues in the kitchen ....will we go back? The an is yes but maybe avoid Friday or Saturday evening....overall the food was great and the staff were also great read more

Fabulous place for brunch. The menu is NOT your standard brunch menu so if you are expecting pancakes, omelets, and the like, you might be disappointed. The menu for brunch is limited full of creative options. We had poutine, Mexican breakfast tacos, and the hash. Large portions of tasty innovative food in a relaxed atmosphere. Service was great - and I was very surprised the place was not very busy at 10:30 on a Sunday. Great selection of wines/beers/cocktails - and the lunch menu piqued my interest so we will be going back! read more
