I have been taking my vehicles to Garrys for years. They NEVER perform any kind of service unless they check with me first. They are honest and up front about everything. I took my car in for a sticker and oil change and was TOLD I didn't need an oil change and they would just top off my fluids. Garry's is THE BEST! They are reasonable and honest, something rarely found among mechanics I've encountered. They communicate clearly and well, via phone ( and text, if you arrange it), and they do great work. Their Volvo technician has helped me keep three Volvo station wagons running until their absolute last possible days. My first was over 20 years old, my second about 15, and my current one is 16 and still going strong (They use its twin as one of their Courtesy vehicles, so I always felt comfortable there from the start). My husband now brings his aging Honda Insight hybrid, which sits so low that its muffler system is a recurring issue, there, as well, for diagnosing of pesky CHECK ENGINE lights. We both use them for oil changes and state inspections. They troubleshoot for me before long trips in an older car, and always rank suggested repairs by priority. Garry's location on South Main is convenient, easy to access, and has plenty of parking, plus convenient key-drop box. If I could assign them more than FIVE STARS, I would! read more

I have been thrilled with the mechanical work and customer service at Garry's. I first experienced Garry's in the 1990's when I owned a Saab. Since then I have lived in a city and didn't need a car. Now, my lifestyle requires a car again and I dreaded the thought of dealing with a mechanic. Thankfully, the customer service team is amazing at Garry's and the mechanics are top notch! Overall distrust. You know that feeling when you leave and then you realize, oh my gosh, I was just screwed. That's the feeling you might get if you visit this place. What kills me even more is that I know a fair amount about cars, but my level in trust in people is too high and that's where things went astray here. The reason overall why I am upset with my visit is because I told them the sole purpose of my visit was because the car was not tracking straight. (needed alignment I thought) But I had already taken it somewhere to align it twice and they agreed they'd look it over to see if there was "something preventing a good alignment." Their word, not mine. Instead, they aligned it and also tacked on more work and diagnostics without any of my approval. They assured me, "we'll take good care of you". This is my fault for not asking them how much it would cost but also their since they did not have any prior approval, even verbal from me to do anything else other than alignment "if they thought it would help" and also the diagnostic plug-in. To summarize, given the chance (and I gave them the chance) this shop uses deceptive and distracting tactics, such as quoting me $1,400 for a part of the car that does not even relate to the alignment and then distracting me from calling Bu#@ $hit on them due to the shock. I will probably call them tomorrow to see if there is something they can do - but overall people should still be warned of this place. An honest shop would have charged me for the alignment and maybe half hour's labor rate because it was only in there for a total of maybe 1.5 hours, MAX. 9AM - 10:30AM; no parts changed. That's a pretty profitable hour and a half I'd say, wow! read more

I loved my mechanic in Dover, NH, then moved to Puerto Rico for 3 years which was an absolute you-know-what show with all things car-related, so when I recently moved back to the states (to Concord) and inherited my mom's 2011 Mercury Mariner after it sitting for five years, I was like "Yeesh. This could be a nightmare". I'm so glad I found Garry's. They are truly awesome. They thoroughly inspected it, did some exhaust work, and made a few other suggestions that would be prudent but are not pressing, and they didn't try to upsell or push me at all. I really appreciate that. As a person who is not a mechanic, I have to trust that they're telling it like it is and being fair (same way you have to trust your doctor or veterinarian). I definitely feel I got that from the guys at Garry's. I hope the car doesn't need anything for a while, but if/when it does, I am 100% confident going back. Thank you! read more

Very friendly and knowledgeable. A previous shop had done some shoddy work and Garry's took care of me and at a reasonable price. It was close to the end of the day and they still took my vehicle in. They also had a free loaner vehicle for me to use while mine was being repaired. If I am ever in the NH area again and need any vehicle work done, I will not hesitate to patronize Garry's again. read more

I have been meaning to write this review for a while. I still come to Garry's even after moving to Boston ten years ago. My parents have been also going to them for years with their cars. The first time I went to Garry's was after having my entire exhaust replaced in Boston. A month later my car started making this loud clanging sound after it started up. I took it home and found out that the first garage had not purchased the right parts to secure the new exhaust and that everything had come loose. Garry's was able to order the correct parts and fix the work. Another time after being quoted for 2,000$ of repairs at a local Boston garage, I drove home to Garry's and found that the majority of the repairs they were recommending were bogus money making efforts. All that needed to be repaired in my car would cost me 500$. This is the kind of garage that as a woman you can go to and not be ripped off. They will honestly tell you what needs to be fixed now and what can wait. I trust them with any project and they always do excellent work. read more

My car has been having some problems, I was calling around to get some guesses to what the problem could be by explaining my problems. I had to do this because it stalled on me when I was driving and I didn't want it to happen again on my way somewhere just so I could get it checked. I called here and tried to explaining what my issues were until the person on the phone had said very rudely "I don't have a crystal ball. You need to bring it in to find what was wrong." This is the only place I have had this issue. I have called a few other places to get guesses to the issue and all of them were nice and had a few guesses for me. I'll keep it simple. I brought my truck there to have them investigate a coolant leak. After their $89 "diagnostic" they said my radiator needed to be replaced. The price tag: $1090. I took the same truck to Merril's Radiator Service the next day, and they determined the leak was due to a faulty hose clamp. Price tag: $58. The folks at Garry's are either incompetent, or crooked -- two qualities that don't mix well in business. Everyone I know will be aware of my experience. read more

horrible. Poor communication. Had VW Vanagon towed there after running over an ATV roof on the highway (other drivers fault). I went and explained what happened - service manager seemed totally disinterested. Told them where the impact had broken an exhaust mount and broken the water jacket seals, causing a leak. They simply raise the vehicle and since they didn't see a glaring impact point, told the insurance there was no damage from the accident, ignoring the broken (snapped off) exhaust mount. I had replaced one of the burst seals from the impact to try to not have to file a claim - even though it was against the other drivers insurance. They told the insurance company that they didn't see any repair work having been done - such incompetence. read more

We've been going to Garry's for over 20 years now. We've had various cars serviced there (mainly Saab's). They have fixed things other shops did wrong, they do a good job and I feel I can trust them to do a good job and do right by me. Overall, very happy with them. read more

Excellent experience with Garry's Service Center. I made a rushed used car purchase without getting it checked out. Big mistake that I won't do again. The used dealer put a state safety inspection sticker on it before the sale to me. Garry's informed me that this should not have received a state safety inspection sticker and to contact the dealer with a list of item failures they provided me. I was able to get the used car dealer to pay for a $1300 repair based on Garry's inspection of the vehicle post purchase. ( get this done before you buy a car, I made the mistake of doing this in the wrong order.) They also helped me get another $1500 in repairs off of the used car warranty that was part of the purchase. Overall they helped me get over $2500 worth of repairs for no cost, on a $6000 vehicle.
