Seeing Dr. Manukyan was the worst experience I've ever had with a dentist. He tries to take advantage of his patients by telling them they need procedures not covered by insurance. And what's worse, when I declined the additional services he became very rude and refused to do my routine cleaning unless I agreed to pay extra. He complains openly about reimbursement from dental HMO insurance and even admitted that he has now learned how to charge extra for services in order to make more money. As a medical provider myself, I'm really disappointed with how I was treated. I do understand frustration with insurance coverage and reimbursement but this should never be taken out on patients. My advice to others...avoid Dr. Manukyan! He may seem nice at first but he is unethical and rude :( read more

They cancelled my appointment without telling me. I showed up outside the gate for my appointment and no one was there. Honestly, maybe it is for the best. The place looked sketchy and the woman on the phone was rude. They are my HMO provider on my insurance card (assigned by my insurance company when I enrolled). I will be calling my insurance first thing on Monday to change to a different, more reputable dentist. Additionally, they told me the same thing about the $85 X-ray (potentially not covered by insurance) that other reviewers mentioned. They wouldn't accept X-rays from previous dentists even if they were recent and they would not do the cleaning without the X-rays. read more

I was referred to Dr. Manukyan a little over a year ago & I have been there on two occasions. So I eat a lot of sweets (= a lot of cavities), can you blame me? I'm not a local of the Silverlake/ Hyperion area, however I found the building very easily. Theres a sign in the front & parking is in the back with the entrance right off Hyperion. If you are traveling west towards Hollywood it is a little tricky entering the lot. You must make a left/ u-turn at the next light. Make sure it's allowed, if not then enter the residential area & make your maneuver elsewhere. I had made the appointment over the phone. Dr Manukyan's receptionist greeted me upon walking in with a smile & had me come over to the desk. We took care of the paperwork, & she even offered me some refreshments. Already a much better start than any dentist's office I've been to before. Approximately 5 minutes had passed & it was already my turn to been seen by Dr. Manukyan. He was a much bigger guy than any dentist I had been to but very friendly. The equipment in the room was brand new & even had a digital x-ray machine. I tend to have a gag reflex which makes it hard for dentists to take x-rays of my gums/teeth. However, this time it went very smoothly & without any regurgitation. Probably because the thing they put in your was much smaller & better placed thanks to the Doc. Procedure didn't take too long, given I had 3 cavities :/ Dr. Manukyan was well versed in the new high tech gear he was using & made the process a lot more interesting for a tech geek like me. Overall I was in & out by max 30-35 minutes. The place was clean, neat, & quiet. I can't believe I'm saying this but I actually enjoyed my visit to the dentists office. SO, I went back for a teeth cleaning & found more cavities :/ & that visit was just as good as the first. Thank you both! I'll see you in a couple months for my next cleaning. read more

I can't say enough nice things about this dentist! I woke up with a broken tooth and after trying to find a dentist to see me, Dr. Manukyan was the one who made time to help me that day... not several days later or the next day, but that same day. Actually took the time to fix it after a full day of working! He was so kind, offered great advice and was very patient with me (who was freaking out)... even when I called later to ask a question he immediately answered and helped. Is been my worse experience visiting a dental office. I walked in for my appt thinking the Dr Manukyan was prepare with all my ins information. I called a week before and spoke to him, he asked me for my insurance information so they can call and get all the information of what was my coverage. I gave it to him and when l went to my appointment he was calling my insurance as he was talking to me. He was put on hold and had his cell on speaker while he was trying to take my xrays. He told me my insurance did not cover the xrays. I called my insurance to know what was my coveraged and they told me it does cover xrays. He charged me $85 out of my pocket for them. I called to questioned why l got charge when l am covered by my insurance. He told me my insurance doe not cover his type of xrays. He got upset and was very rude over the phone. He was also been pushy about me getting some crowns l dont need since l only need a filling. He wanted to charge me $200 just for him to numb my gums when doing deep cleaning. He wanted to charge me $300 total for cleaning. I told him l would come back or call for an appointment & he was been veey pushy for me to get it done then. He even called me hours later and left me a message saying l can apply to his dental credit card to help me with these procedures. Now that l wrote my review, l see some others poating similar experience with Dr. Manukyan. I wish l would have seeing these reviews before l went into his office. read more

This place is right around the corner from my house, so I tried to make an appointment here, but the receptionist/office manager (pronounced "Leela") - who says she's the only one around to help or speak to - wasn't very helpful. She had to call me back on everything, didn't have any idea how much anything costs (couldn't quote me basic prices) and so I decided not to go here because if anything, I should be able to speak to my dentist's office about everything, especially billing, in a clear, non-confusing way. read more

A few months back I had pain on my upper left side of my teeth. I was recommended to Dr Gary by a former patient of his to get it checked out by him (since I'm skeptical of seeing just whatever dr.) I got the x-ray done and Dr. Gary explained to me that I had a cavity under my filling that was close to my root, and that's why it was causing me pain and discomfort. He told me that a root canal had to be done. So I thought a root canal took a few hours and I was kind of prepared to be there for a while. But the it didn't!!. I was there for less than and hour. His assistant took an X-ray of the final result and He told me that the RCT came out great. It was such a relief to hear that something that wouldn't let me sleep finally be over. He prescribed me antibiotic s and pain meds. I will return to Dr. Gary for more treatment, because not only was He specific about the process I was pain free and have not had any discomfort. read more

Went there today for a toothache. I was referred by my insurance DeltaCare USA. The first thing Dr. Manukyan said is that the exam will be $45 to start. I asked why my insurance did not cover the exam and his response was that the insurance companies do not pay me. Since I was there I went ahead with the x-rays. After the x-rays he said that I needed $1600. worth of dental work and my insurance will not cover it. He said I needed a deep cleaning, a tooth extraction, oral surgery to remove a broken tooth and treatment for gum disease. In the car I had a list of everything my insurance covers and he insisted it would cost me $1600 and the insurance companies do not pay him. Everything he stated I needed to be done was covered under Delta Care. I notified Delta Care and hopefully, they take him off their dentist list. Out $45 but I did get to see the x-ray of my cavity. read more
