When we finally one, we reached out to him again. It was important to do the inspection quickly because the contact was not going to be subject to inspection, and we didn't lose the bid. He agreed to do the inspection the day after we contacted him. As we did the walk through with him, he provided a number of very helpful suggestions, but felt that the house (from the 1860s) was in very good shape. In addition, unlike many other inspectors, he is an engineer and was able to provide guidance on structural matters (which fortunately was fine).
