Thank you Gary Ricks and crew. Our furnace broke down on a cold February day and they were there within a day and had a new furnace installed. Gary and his crew ,Greg and Mike, were not aware that my wife has been in the hospital with pneumonia and I couldn't bring her home to a house with no heat. They stayed way after hours to get heat back to my house. They did this just because they are quality people and not because they knew of our medical difficulties. Greg was amazing and thanks to mike for coming and helping after he was done with his normal work day. I'm sure Gary has a lot of important things to do running the business but he came on site to help get things done. I would recommend Gary Ricks to anyone. I was using Google & Yelp to find a good company to install a new HVAC system in two townhouses I own in Logan. Gary Ricks was one of the companies on Google that had lots of reviews, but wasn't the highest rated. I called them for an estimate of how much it would cost to install the new HVAC system. The lady answering the phone said she would send me a form to complete to help get the estimate done. She said it asked questions like the square footage and what not. I got a form that looks like a "contract" to perform a heat sizing work order / manual J calculation (this costs money to have it done). Then I got a call from Gary. I called him back, his kid answered the phone and gave it to him. I told him I wanted a quote. Then he began to tell me it was "illegal to do an estimate" without doing this testing up front. That's completely a lie. It's illegal to install a system without doing this up front - that's completely different. I have owned more than 15 properties over the years most of which are rentals and work with contractors all the time. None of them approach customers like this pushing them into doing work through a hard sales approach and all the while be condescending. What a prick. People - his prices are twice that of the competitors as well - don't be duped into working with a company that views customers this way.. I am attaching the paperwork they sent over to sign. DO NOT SIGN IT before getting your other quotes from other companies. Response to Gary's reply. No Gary I am not smarter than most people, but I do know when someone is using pressure tactics and dishonesty to get business. You keep quoting code as if it makes you right. I was asking for an estimate, nothing stops someone from getting an estimate on an existing building without doing the work your tried coercing me into. I do know that. And Gary, I never called you any names, I never even raised my voice. You asked if I was mad and I replied "No, I am not upset, I just don't like being pressured with hard sell tactics". You lied in your reply to try to get Yelp to remove this review. Way to go Gary, you and I both know you are a liar now. Our furnace died in the middle of a sub zero night. I called Gary Ricks Services and Greg was at my house within 45 minutes. He was able to get my furnace ti work for a couple of days until he and Ralph could come and install a new one. Greg and Ralph were very professional and did a great job installing the new furnace. I was impressed to have the owner of the company (Gary) come to my house to explain what the techs were going to do and then return at the end to check their work. Ralph and Michael came out today to install a new water heater for us. They did a great job and were so kind. They kept us informed on what they were doing throughout the process, and when they were finished they showed what all they had accomplished and explained the precautions and functions of the various parts of the water heater. They were both great and very kind and courteous. Gary was very polite as well and came out to make sure of all the proper parts we would need to be all up to date for our new water heater. As always, Stephanie was very kind on the phone and worked very hard to help us know what to expect and was very helpful in getting us set up with an appointment for the install. Not happy with the service I received from Gary Ricks. Shawn the plumber they sent out, talked about everything else but the job I wanted him to do. I don't need to know about his wife or his military experiences, I needed a job done. He wasted my time talking and then turned around and charged me for it. Billed me for two hours when he was only there 1.5 hours and at least 30 minutes of that was talking about himself ( so only an hours worth of actual work he should've billed me for). I had to walk away just so he would do his job and then after his evaluation and wasted time talking, he told me he won't be able to complete the small job I needed him to do. In my opinion that's not professional customer service, that's gouging the customer. read more

Great service, our heat went out on a Saturday night at 11 pm! Shawn came out right away even though it was almost midnight! Our furnace is old and required a part that wasn't common, so they had to order it, which did take quite a few days however they lent us like 4 space heaters for free to use until we got the furnace working again. My AC went out the first of July, so I called Gary Ricks (because they are the best, ha what a joke!). The first thing they told me was that my AC unit (2009) was obsolete and needed to be replaced because it has R22. He went on to quote me around $2500 for a system. Then he said he could seal the leak and recharge it for a total charge of $400+. So he used Easy Seal and charged it and it lasted about 3 weeks!. So I called a more reputable company that came out and identified the leak, fixed it and got me up and running for 1/3 the cost these clowns charged me! The leak was right there next to the charge Schrader valve, and i'm sure the Gary Ricks tech knew it (oil had leaked on the concrete). STAY AWAY FROM THESE GUYS! They'll try to sell you a whole new system rather than make the easy, correct, and inexpensive repair. Easy Seal rarely works and they know it; all it does it gum up your system. I'd like a refund, but I doubt they'll do that!!! read more

Gary and his crew and office staff (Greg, John, Shawn and Stephanie) were great in diagnosing problems and replacing our old furnace with a new energy efficient furnace and went above and beyond to help get it done when we needed it. Shawn came today to do a tune up and went far and beyond. The furnace had never been cleaned out, since we've only lived here 2 years, and he made it look new again. He didn't act perturbed at our request to clean it all up and answer all of our questions, and he wasn't upset that it took longer then planned. Our last furnace service from a different company, just looked at it, ran it a little and said it was fine. We will never have them come again. Gary Ricks Services is the only only one we will be dealing with from now on. It's so nice to have a company with employees who are pleasant to deal with. You DO NOT want to use Gary Ricks for anything related to your gas fireplace. They'll charge you $25 for a "diagnostic" even if you tell them: the blower doesn't work; everything else is fine. They charge on estimates for average work times, which means if your job only takes 10 minutes, they're still going to charge you for the average, which might be an hour, or two hours, or whatever. Worst, they more than double the cost of the parts they get for you. A $50 blower for your fireplace will now cost you $200. I used Gary to install a couple gas fireplaces years ago and he seemed like a decent guy. I don't know what's happened to his business--maybe it has expanded too fast and now they've got to pull in more money to pay for the fancy vans. I used a different company to service another fireplace after having such a terrible experience with GR's repair service, and it turns out, his company hadn't installed the unit properly in the first place. There are much better, more knowledgeable, and cheaper fireplace repair services in the valley. Use them instead. read more

They knew what they were doing but hit me with a surprise fee. They diagnosed the problem was a $0.50 wire nut but to replace it was $65 plus their diagnosis fee. Took them 30 seconds to fix it and charged me their whole hour. I wasn't happy about it and they didn't seem to care. They just wanted to get as much money as they could. Gary Ricks' is one of the fastest responding services I use. I have 3 duplexes and my own house, and frequently have to call for help (plumbing, heating and vent., elec., etc.). Gary's company is one the most responsive of the lot (and I have a great plumbing service too), and really friendly to boot. The other thing that is great about Gary's service, is he offers discounts for maintenance done not at rush times (e.g., changing heater filters mid-summer instead of the first week it gets cold). I had Gary Ricks Services come clean the blower and coil in our Carrier Furnace. I arrived as the technician was leaving. When I went inside there was a loud screeching sound that could be heard throughout the house. I called the technician and he came back and made sure to tell me on the phone that he had put it back together the way it was and it was fine when he left. The technician took the covers off and told me that there was a bolt that was stripped and didn't offer any further solutions. He let me believe that the furnace needed to be replaced. He then got on the phone with his boss and had a conversation about how these furnaces get old, bolts get stripped, and it's "just sheet metal" (the owner, Gary, did not come out and inspect the furnace at any point during this interaction). They talked about how this is what happens when people don't change filters regularly. This whole conversation was in front of me, but I was not involved. The technician got off the phone and told me that I had heard it from the boss himself. My gut told me something was amiss. I asked what the boss had told me and the answer was "It's just older and over time it just starts squeaking" and that "when you pull 'em apart it can happen". I asked if that was it and if he was telling me I need a new furnace "no, it's just gonna be noisy". So I was being led to believe that if I didn't get a new furnace I would no longer be able to sleep with the furnace on since the noise was so loud. "as they get older that happens". I pointed out (several times) that it wasn't making any noises before he came and cleaned it. "It's just sheet metal" (I was told this many times). This was all centered around a stripped bolt that was holding the blower motor to the blower housing. I asked if it's possible to replace the bolt with one that has a nut on the other side since it's just sheet metal. I'm told he doesn't know and asks me if I want to talk to the boss. When talking to the boss I ask if it can be repaired or if I am going to need to replace the furnace and the answer is that you "can only tighten the bolt so much", "just a bolt with sheet metal on the back". I ask again if we can use a bolt with a nut. "Sure, we could do that but it would be hourly". He would have to contact Carrier for the bolt. I point out again that I paid almost $500 to have them come clean it and they are leaving it in this condition unless I pay the company more to fix it. I then let him know that this feels like a shake down. Gary then became offended and reminded me that "it was full of dirt, right?", "you're the one trying to shake me down, bud", "I don't own your furnace". At this point I end the call and the technician leaves. Apparently having them fix the situation they created is a shakedown. I hired them to clean my furnace, it was left in worse condition and the part that is concerning is that this was acceptable to the technician and the owner of the company. It was now my problem. I got my tools, opened it up and immediately saw two screws loose and a random part just sitting inside. I found the bolt that was stripped and I was unable to back it out since it was stripped. Turns out that wasn't even the problem after all this talk of stripped bolts. The blower housing was not properly replaced, causing vibration and the loud squeaking. I pulled the blower out a bit and slid it back in and secured all the screws again. No noise. This would have been a ten minute fix for the technician or Gary if he had invested some time in customer service. They were okay with me believing I needed a new furnace or paying them to fix a situation they created or leaving me with a furnace that made that much noise. Gary Ricks Services left the impression that the customer is ignorant and wrong. I wonder how many people have fallen prey to these shady tactics. read more

Several months ago my old furnace started acting up on me and i wanted to see if it could be fixed before scrapping it, Gary and his crew came and looked at it and gave me an honest assessment after trying everything possible to fix it. They explained it could be fixed, but the cost in doing so and combining that with the age of the furnace as well as the inefficiency because of how old it was wouldn't be the best solution. I was worried about the cost of a new furnace and having recently gone through a divorce. Gary offered several options and gave me the pros and cons of each of them. I decided to go ahead and have him install a new furnace and I couldn't be happier with the service and the feeling of reliability that comes along with a furnace that works perfectly. I've had new furnaces installed before and the furnace he installed for me was much less expensive than the others I've had installed in the past from other heating and cooling companies in Cache Valley. I will be using Gary Ricks and his team from now on for any future heating and cooling needs as well as recommending them to all my friends! Thanks Gary and team! read more
