This is a lovely office, and Dr. Seiden is a great dentist. However, the billing and insurance practices that this office uses are simply unacceptable and the reason for my low rating. After two standard cleanings and one round of routine x-rays, I received a bill for over $400! Mind you, I had dental insurance at the time of both visits. Unfortunately, this office has decided that they are out of network with every dental plan, and they balance bill patients for any amount not covered by their dental insurance. This is a predatory and frankly unethical practice, and this provider should be held accountable. After numerous calls and emails with the practice, they ultimately dropped my amount due to $240. I will be finding a new dentist. read more

I have been a patient at DuPont Dental for several years and recommended this office to my partner (who also became a patient) and friends/coworkers. Overall, the staff is wonderful, and Dr. Seiden has been an incredible dentist. However, their recent billing practices are confusing and unreasonable. I recently received a bill for $600 for regular cleanings/x-ray that I was told wasn't fully covered by insurance (CareFirst). After being a patient for several years, I have never had a bill for regular cleanings or been informed that my insurance plan did not fully cover their costs. In the visits listed on my bill (which go back two years), I was never informed of out-of-pocket costs for regular cleanings or of an outstanding balance for previous cleanings, which is incredibly frustrating and concerning given the lack of transparency. Had I known this was the case at the first cleaning in 2019 that appears on my current bill, I would have found a new dentist. As a previous reviewer stated, "it appears they have decided that they are out of network with every dental plan, and they balance bill patients for any amount not covered by their dental insurance." I have since found a new dentist who told me that my insurance plan should fully cover cleanings and x-rays, contrary to what I was told by DuPont Dental. It's unfortunate that they have implemented these insurance and billing practices, as I was previously a very happy patient! read more

Do yourself a favor and find a dentist who isn't going to condescend you on your first - and last - interaction. Do yourself a favor and find a dentist who doesn't think they're so much better than you that they throw any semblance of courtesy out the window. Look; I'm not typically the kind of person to post a Yelp review. I don't believe in doxxing on the internet, and I usually roll my eyes when my dad sends me a Yelp review he wrote about the pizza place that takes too long near his house. But today I've changed my mind. I've worked in customer service for over a decade and I have never dealt with such rudeness and inconsiderate behavior. Let me restate that, for emphasis. I have worked with high schoolers, and I have worked with the elderly. I have worked with the rich, the poor, the spoiled, the self-absorbed, and the kind of people who think you're worse than the gum under their shoe. I've worked in customer service with all of them, and I've never had someone be so flippant than I did with the person in the office this morning. If I could put less than one star, I would. I had an 8am appointment this morning. It was my first appointment that was meant to be for an hour. I have been dealing with separate medical issues since last week, issues that landed me in the ER. I didn't get a chance to cancel the appointment because I thought I would be well enough to attend this morning. I woke up late this morning to a reminder call from the office, because I had been up all night vomiting. Those are the facts you need to know. Here's what else you should know: The office called and I woke up and picked up the phone. I started to explain I was not feeling well, but there wasn't a good phone connection, and all I heard was "don't call this office again." What? A few minutes later, my phone rings AGAIN. It's the office again, asking if I'm coming in...to which I repeat my story, I start to say that I've been sick all morning and can't come in. Whoever is on the line then says to me, "well unfortunately, because you made the appointment this morning and it was for an hour, and you didn't call to cancel, you can no longer make an appointment with this office." "I understand that, sir, but I've been very sick, and when you called a minute ago you told me not to call this office again and hung up. But I understand that is how it has to be." "Well, I understand that, but you didn't call in advance to cancel and that was very inconsiderate of you. This is my office and I do what I want, and you need to find another office." Click. Now look. 1.) I just had an understandably annoyed man take a tone with me that was disrespectful, rude, and condescending. "This is my office and I do what I want?" Well, sir, this is my review of your horrific customer service, and I hope you're prepared to deal with me telling every person I know in the DMV area how rude this was. 2.) you aren't even going to take less than a minute to let me finish my explanation? I'm dealing with a medical issue that had me in the hospital. I'm sorry that has taken precedence over calling to cancel an appointment I thought I was going to be able to make. 3.) nowhere on your website can I find where it says if you fail to cancel your first appointment, will you be unable to return to that office. Nowhere does it say that even if there are extenuating circumstances, this policy is hard and fast. Is that one of your rules that you decided because "it's your office and you do what you want?" And bottom line to this point - there was a markedly better way to tell me I missed my appointment and this is your (really terrible) policy. "I'm sorry, ma'am, but if you miss your first appointment our policy is to never see you again." Do you see how much more polite that is? Ridiculous, but polite. 4.) you told me not to call again, HUNG UP, and then called me back to further berate me and tell me how inconsiderate I am? How is that even remotely acceptable in any realm of business? Are you a child? Is being condescending to someone who has stated - twice - they are sick making you feel any bigger and badder? Because to me, it makes you seem like a petulant child. I truly don't know who picked up the phone - if it's a receptionist claiming "this is my office" then they have an entirely other thing coming to them when they learn this office is far from theirs, besides inside their head. And if that was the DENTIST that picked up the phone and was so rude and disrespectful, well, sir, that might be your office - but it'll no longer be the office of anyone I know. Do yourself a favor. Find a local dentist who might take thirty seconds to ask why you can't come in for an appointment - or, in my case, if you've already explained why, lay out politely the rules of your office. Find someone who isn't so condescending that you feel you need to write your first Yelp review - ever. But just do yourself a favor and don't go here. read more

I agree with the reviewer noting the rudeness and condescending manner. I had such a bad experience many years ago that I still am traumatized . He may be a good dentist technically - I have no idea though because he irrationally blew up at me for literally nothing. I had been in already and had a good experience with another dentist in the office. There was later a relatively minor issue regarding scheduling and he came out and started screaming in a way that quite frankly was abusive. I don't think he has any idea how hurtful his behavior is. Not exactly the best temperament for a dentist. The positive reviews I see make me think they aren't for Mr Seiden himself. Very good dentist. Bedside manner leaves much to be desired. Kris, who runs front office, amazing! I had to cart my 3 YO to the appointment, which is not as much fun as it sounds. He was not happy, but it's not like I had many other alternatives. Enter Kris, who gave my daughter a bracelet, some dentist toys and talked to her during my x-rays. She was the reason I didn't walk out. If you can get past his grouchy attitude, then go. If you have kids that you can't leave any where and must take with you, pack extra doses of patience. He is a good dentist, I think he just needs a hug. :S read more

Dr. Seiden and Kris are the best! I have honestly never had such a pleasant, quick and painless experience at the dentist as I had today. I wasn't pressured to buy anything cosmetic or useless or bullied into any unnecessary procedures. It was great! The cleaning was excellent, everyone was friendly, funny and accommodating. I didn't wait long at all before my appointment. Dr. Seiden explained everything he was doing and cracked some jokes. I also appreciate that I was in and out in no time but I felt that the perfect amount of attention was paid to my pearly whites. My last dentist was DC Dental Spa (see their page), and they were the ABSOLUTE worst, this was a full 180 from that. I'll never go to another dentist in DC. read more

The receptionist, Kris, is great, and I love the hygienist, and Dr. Seiden. My appointments have always started on time and been quick. They are great with the reminder e-mails as well. I am terrified of dentists so going is always a personal obstacle i need to overcome. This is by far the best dental office i have been to. I had to get 11 cavities taken care of they did in in 2 sittings and were so amazing. The first time i went the doctor had an emergency case and was running late, he came out personally to apologize. There is the option of Laughing gas for those of us that freak out in the chair. They are very attentive to that and treat you accordingly. I appreciate the kid gloves for the scary cat with horrible teeth. read more

I made an appointment at Dupont Dental after reading the great reviews on Yelp. I hadn't ever made a dentist appointment with my current insurance plan, and Kris was incredibly helpful and provided all the information I needed on billing and co-pays. She even researched my insurance plan herself to confirm that I would be covered for my cleaning and X-rays. It had been three years since I had last been to the dentist and so I have to say that the hero of this story was the woman who actually cleaned my teeth, Shalane. As you can imagine, I had quite a bit if plaque and tartar build up. She rightfully scolded me for having lapsed so long since my previous dentist appointment and took the time and care to thoroughly clean my whites. I won't say that the cleaning was completely painless, but I'm to blame for that and all the time it took to scrape away the build up. I only met with Dr. Seiden very briefly when he came in to check my teeth afterwards. He seemed like a very nice guy, but I have had the luck so far of not needing a dentist for any major medical procedure, so I can't vouch for his technique. Between, Kris, Dr. Seidan, and of course Shalane, I am convinced that the entire staff is wonderful at Dupont Dental. I even hugged Shalane after my cleaning for all her diligence. (Lol!) I will certainly be making my appointment here twice a year from here on out. And yes, the goodie bag certainly doesn't hurt in convincing me to come back. read more

I called Dr. Seidan hoping for an appointment and left a message. He called back with an attitude right from the start, as though he was very put out that someone wanted an appointment and he was doing me a favor by calling me back "from his home." When I asked if he accepted BlueCross BlueShield insurance he got even more huffy and explained to me that there were many types of BlueCross BlueShield insurance plans (as though I was not already aware of this). Instead of answering him (because at this point I was annoyed and taken aback by his demeanor) I asked if he was in-network for any BlueCross BlueShield insurance plan, which he isn't. I guess I'll just keep trekking out to the Arlington Center for Dentistry - at least they are respectful to their patients and have a legitimate business operation! read more

Kris at the front desk is great, she got me in on short notice because I was unhappy with some cosmetic stuff that had been done by my regular dentist. He was able to quickly polish my teeth and fix the issue in no time (the only downside was I didn't know until checking out there would be a fee but expected it once he started working) but that was my fault and I should've double checked before he got started (I was just scheduled for a free consult.) Otherwise, great experience and really appreciate Dr. Seiden and his staff! Will be coming back here for all my cosmetic needs. read more

Dr. Seiden is my go-to dentist in DC. The office is ridiculously convenient and they correspond by email -- perfect for a well-connected lazy person. All the staff is friendly, helpful and professional. Even better, I've never had to wait more than five minutes in the waiting room when I've had an appointment. Dr. Seiden definitely gets the job done on the teeth cleaning too. His work can be a little painful at times, but it's worth it. My smile is always sparkling when I leave. read more

I came for a visit to get an opinion from Dr Seiden regarding my two front teeth being slightly chipped. He right away said that he was the best dentist to do cosmetic dentistry. When I asked about the cost he told me $3600 for two teeth. I of course asked if my insurance would cover some of it, he said he was not sure but my insurance could cover up to $900 per tooth so half of it per tooth. I wanted to make sure of it and I said I needed to think about it. That is when he said abruptly "Sebastien you took an appointment now we need to do it." I feel like an idiot for being pushed over like this. When I got the crowns I said right away that the teeth were too long and that I looked like a rabbit. Now to make my mouth even I have to do the other teeth next to the two front teeth to make it look even. I feel horrible my insurance is covering only $300 out $3600, had I gone to a dentist in my insurance's network I would have paid half of it. That was a miserable experience, I am really upset by the result and the process felt so wrong to be pushed into something I was only researching options to begin with. Furthermore when you are uncomfortably laying with your mouth opened Dr Seiden talks to his assistant about a multitude of things and you literally feel inadequate in that seat, like you are not existing and if you complain that it is painful he gets quickly irritated with you. Lastly when I confronted Dr Seiden about my disastrous experience and the unsatisfactory results he told that I needed to find another dentist. I have never felt used like this ever. The bottom line is that I am so self-conscious about my uneven smile that I don't smile other than with my mouth closed. read more

They'll bust your chops if you don't floss on a regular basis... but the exam is otherwise painless! I've had a regular cleaning and also had two cavities filled (apparently the result of not flossing! gah!) and both were easy. I'm giving them a four star because I paid based on what they said my insurance would cover and then received a second bill 3 weeks later for an extra $120 (apparently my insurance doesn't cover white fillings - - my preference, though I wasn't asked for one). read more

Update: Two years later, and a new dentist has informed me that it's likely the fillings I was given by Dr. Seiden were done incorrectly, or that proper cleaning was not conducted by Dr. Seiden's office prior to the filling, because there are cavities already beginning to form under the fillings after only a couple of years and they need to be redone. Composite fillings - they type of fillings I was given by Dr. Seiden - tend to be less durable than amalgam (silver) fillings for back teeth, and are only really beneficial from a cosmetic perspective. I would not have consented to composite fillings if Dr. Seiden had told me he planned to use them, but he didn't. There were no questions asked or options given, despite it being clear that I'd had amalgam fillings previously. He just went ahead and gave me composite fillings, and told me afterward. To not consult a patient when making a choice about their body is not okay from a professional ethics point of view. This should be a red flag for anyone considering this dental practice. I have recently also learned that the extreme discomfort that persisted for months after my fillings at Dr. Seiden's office was likely also a result of the composite fillings used. As if this all weren't bad enough, from a financial perspective, I also got dinged: even though Dr. Seiden's office knew which insurance I had, and may have known that I would have to pay out-of-pocket for composite fillings, they proceeded anyway without asking me. One final issue: after I inquired about the pain and discomfort in the weeks and months after the procedure, Dr. Seiden told me, through one of his staff, that the pain was not a result of the filling and the only thing that would solve it would be a root canal, so I should just wait a few months for it to resolve. I wish Dupont Dental had simply been honest with me at that point, and told me that the pain may last for several months and that it was a direct result of the type of filling used. At least this would have given me more peace of mind about my dental health while the pain persisted. All in all, I would recommend considering other options. read more

I just had my first appointment with Dr. Seidan earlier this week. I've lived in DC for 8 years, but I have been going to my old dentist "back home." This year I've realized that's silly, so I checked Yelp and booked an appointment. I went in for a standard cleaning and check up and to talk about removing my wisdom teeth. PROS: - Great staff, clean, well-lit, (albeit small) office. - Great respect for your time! I was in and outta there in a flash, even as a first time patient. And my appointment was a week from my initial cold-call. - Great location. It's right by the Metro, 1/2 block off the circle itself. - Dr. Seidan seems nice. He's chatty, which I don't think is a bad thing. - Mary, the hygienist, is very nice. - Everyone is informative about what's going on with your care and your billing. CONS: - This can be either good or bad, but things happen at a brisk pace--I guess that's how they're able to respect everyone's time. From the fast floss (ouch) to the conversations about your care, the office is a well oiled-machine. That said, you probably need to be more assertive than you'd expect to be. If you don't understand something you need to stop the presses and say so (you might not be asked). If you would like time to make a decision, you need to say so (you will be expected to make it immediately). If you have a concern that did not come up during your visit, you need to bring it up. - There are TVs in the room, but no one handed me a remote or anything. . .I did get to see my x-rays on it. Maybe that's all it's there for? Maybe I was just in and out so fast no one bothered to give me the option. Not a big deal, just an observation. Anyway, I'm comfortable making this place my primary dental office. read more

I was nervous that my teeth whitening would a) cause discomfort and pain, and b) not result in obvious results, since my teeth were already considered pretty white. Not only was it absolutely pain-free, I saw an appreciable difference. And the staff was so welcoming, and had a fantastic bedside manner. I went to Dupont Dental for repair of a chipped molar. I was seen quickly and to tooth was x-rayed. Dr. Gary J. Seiden told me he could fixed the tooth. He also told me that "at some point in the future I would probably need a root canal." After repairing my tooth. the pain persisted. Not horrible but noticeable. Not quite 30 days later I was awakened in the middle of a weekend night with pain in the tooth and a great deal of swelling. I called for an emergency appointment and medication for the pain and swelling. He called in the prescription and we scheduled a visit for Monday. When I arrived and sat in the chair still quite swollen he starts talking about a root canal almost immediately. He had not dealt with the piss poor repair job he did on my tooth that was infected and swollen not quite a month before. When I told him I needed to deal with this issue first he continued to press me to get started with the root canal. I was already $1,200 lighter from his shoddy work and was not ready to move forward until the current issue was resolved. His attitude immediately changed and he started to get angry. I told him I needed time to think about it. He said "No!" and became so angry the at one point he was standing over me shaking with anger. "I'm sick of you patients!" "I'm a good dentist!" he said angrily through clinched teeth. How many people under these circumstances would allow a dentist like this into their mouth to do any kind of dental work. I talked to a dentist friend afterwards and she told me that it's probably time for this Dr. Seiden to find a new line of work. BEWARE!!. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! Don't be fooled by the courteous staff and warm reception. Your issues may not be repaired properly and they are very expensive. read more

Usually love Dupont Dental but I recently went in for Zoom Whitening. After a painful procedure (not Dupont Dental's fault!), despite clearly being in pain, I got a few sarcastic quips from Dr. Seiden which were not appreciated given the level of pain i was visibly in. Furthermore, I was told by the front desk they would 'call the next day to check in on me'. Never happened. Funny for a company that will call and email five times to confirm an appointment they can't spare the 2 min gesture to check on a patient's well-being. read more

I had a filling that was done more than 10 years ago. It fell off two years ago and I had Dupont Dental refilled it for me. But it fell off again couple of weeks ago. For two weeks after my filling, I still couldn't use that side of my teeth. I'm seeking another dentist and will need to ask them to recheck their work. The whole experience was not pleasant. During the surgery, I felt that I wasn't taken cared of gently, and I was almost chocked out of breath because they put the bed too low for me. I will definitely not recommend this practice to anyone. read more

This is solely for billing. I liked the dentists and the space was very bright and welcoming. But I was misinformed about my insurance coverage, billed for months for charges that when I would then call the office to inquire about they would tell me to ignore the bill. I called every month and every month they were like oh that's just an automatic bill, don't worry we're working it out with the insurance company. Right, that is until all of a sudden I get a notice from collections. Now for over a year, they are "working it out" with insurance, but when I call them after receiving a collections notice and GO OFF then they are able to rectify the situation that day. Does no one do their job these days. I'd recommended the place to my colleagues and she also got a surprise bill in the mail and due to my experience immediately went off on the practice and called the insurance. Come to find out the practice intentionally overbilled and the insurance company was like no, they know they cant bill for that and we're not paying so they are trying to pass it to you. Sheesh. Whoever is running their billing over there needs training, help, or a pink slip. read more
