My husband accidentally bent the dryer door of our Whirlpool dryer and it closed with a lot of difficulty. After calling for service to others in this area and getting no response I saw Gary's service was also close to me. He was here within 30 minutes of my call. He was courteous and professional and fixed the door so that it closes with ease and looks great. From now on Gary's Appliance Service will be our go to company for all future appliance problems. I have a 10 year old Kenmore He2 (Whirlpool) and this model according to my research is supposed to be rock solid. Everything is working but no heat. This same thing happened last year and we used Gary's Appliance Service. Talked Gary who I paid big money to repair it about a year ago and once before that, and he said he could not give a recommendation to replace replace it, but he would like to take the old one off my hands if I did get a new one or he could try and fix it again. This guy was not cheap and I started to smell something fishy... Lots of YouTube videos later I pulled the thing apart (I had nothing to lose) and got out the ohm meter and started testing parts. The heating element was bad and that was what we replaced last year for big money. The OEM part from our repair guy Gary was approximately $110. Pulled it and sure enough it was burnt through. His labor was around another $150 (by the way). Took it to the appliance parts store and they said it was a cheap Chinese made knock off. Looked it up myself and ones similar go for $18 on Amazon. Gary ripped me off and wanted to dispose of the dryer for me. There is a sucker born every minute... $82 for the real OEM part. Cleaned and put the thing back together and it works great. My family has been using Dan for our appliance repair since the 1970s. I'm the third generation to use his services. He's always been very honest and does great work. I woke up this morning and my freezer in the garage had an alarm going off and it was flashing an error code. The food had started to thaw. I called Dan and he said he could come over after his first morning job. He asked if I felt comfortable googling the error code to see what came up and if so, to so that while he is was at his first job and he call after. He called and walked me through the possible problems. Ultimately it was a control board. He said I could order one online and install it if I felt comfortable, or he could install it. I'm pretty handy with mechanics and felt comfortable doing it. Dan spent about 20mins on the phone diagnosing this with me for free. That is a sign of an honest person! I don't expect people to work for free as well all need to make a living. The fact that Dan did this just shows great customer service and true honesty in the industry. I highly recommend. read more

On Sunday, my washing machine began leaking--water all over the floor. I waited until yesterday (Monday) to try to find a repair service, and I called Gary's. A nice man named Dan answered, and when I told him the issue, he said, "My brother, Don, handles the washing machine. I'll give you his number, and you can call him." This was fine, and I called Don. He was available that day, and he came to the house. He was very nice. There was still some water on the laundry room floor (I had soaked up most of it), so he could see the machine had been leaking. He was here about 30 minutes, and he looked at the machine drum and the hoses. He ran water and told me he could not find anything to repair. Nothing seemed to be leaking. He said the machine seemed fine and perhaps the leak was a "one off." I appreciated that he did not offer to repair something that wasn't broken--so kudos there. Then he said, "I'll just need to charge you for the service call." Of course. I was glad to pay him for the half hour and for the diagnostic--even though I was still worried about what had caused the leak and I hoped it would not happen again. He said that if possible, he preferred me to write a check for payment. This was fine and I got my checkbook, but then he asked me to write the check directly to him and not the company, which I did find a little odd. Then he said the service charge was $186.25. I was surprised. That seemed high for half hour diagnostic. So, I've no complaints at all about the service, but the payment situation struck me as odd, and I do think nearly two hundred dollars for diagnostic seems a tad high. read more

If the owner would like to dispute me, bring it on and we can discuss.Charged me $10 for gas (he lives 15 min from my home) The kicker was the $126 service charge AFTER i paid for the repair,the part and his gas ...."He said the $126 was to get him to my house" huh?? ......Why did i make the check out to your brother and not the business name? please explain. So just know whatever it cost to do the repair there will be an additional $126 charge on top of that. I asked him 'i already paid you $10 for gas".....he didn't have a reasonable answer...Tell people up front you will paying $126 just for driving to your house....Terrible business practices read more

Don't be like me and pay Dave $150 to come to your house for 15 minutes and tell you that your washer can't be repaired. Daniel was just the absolute best, would hire him again in a heartbeat! He's been doing this since 1969, he was able to roughly date my refrigerator from the screws on the vent cover, explained everything about how the fridge worked to me and what the potential causes of the problem were. We eventually decided that the issue couldn't be fixed with any assurances that a given approach would work, but also that the problem wasn't significant and we could continue to use our unit as is - how refreshing to not have someone try to sell me something I don't need. I have used these guys for my washing machine and my dishwasher. I think I have used them 3-4 times. They do a really good job. Their prices are reasonable and they are a family business. Ryan was trained by his dad and uncles. They are honest and upfront and thorough. My only complaint is they charge 5% for debit/credit card transactions and they didn't mention that until it was time to pay. I probably would have hunted down the checkbook if they told me that when I called but it's whatever. They did a great job and their price was reasonable so I'm happy. read more

I called and they came relatively quickly to repair my leaking water 9-year-old Frigidaire refrigerator. When Daniel arrived I told him there is more wrong with this refrig than just water coming out from under it onto my hardwood floors. also the ice maker wasn't working, some vegetables were freezing on one side of the crisper. He took care of the crisper with a repair of tin foil and a rubber band, he stopped the leaking water and the ice maker began to work. BUT only a trickle of water would come out of the indoor water dispenser. He saw this and chose to not do anything about it, charge me $266 for 1 hr and 15 min. and chose leave. I let the company know in writing that the repair was not complete and I wanted the water dispenser to dispense water like it did before he came. They never got back to me. I bought a new refrigerator. Would not recommend this company. read more

(this would be 3.5 stars if yelp would allow that.) 5 stars for being able to come and check out my problem IMMEDIATELY. (He was at my house about 20 minutes after I called.) The visit fee was $86 (just for showing up, which seemed fairly standard), and he charged me 1/2 hr labor on top of that to dismantle my dryer. He started dismantling the dryer and explained the costs as he was doing so. (he then told me I should replace the dryer bc repair costs would add up, and the life of the machine might not warrant the price paid.) He casually mentioned that he sells refurb old school machines. (His preference bc the HE machines aren't any more efficient...except at breaking down years before the more basic ones. I believe this bc my mom's dryer lasted, like, 30 years.) He was back less than an hour later to install the new (old) machine with his brother and cart away my former machine. Clear communication, helpful, I trusted that he knows what he's talking about, went the extra mile to attempt to check the vent. cons: *$86 and that doesn't include the initial 30-45 minutes of time/labor to give me a diagnosis?! So, essentially, it was $136 to show up and tell me I needed to replace my machine. (-1 star for 0 minutes of his labor included in an $86 visit fee. I have never experienced this before with a home visit from a professional.) *his refurb machine prices are higher than the same machines cost elsewhere in the city. I didn't feel like I had time to research and make a considered decision bc every minute he was at my house was costing money. I don't have time to be without my dryer, so we made a decision of convenience. We paid (possibly) over market value for that convenience. (-.5 star bc I'm left feeling sort of regretful and pressured) (I *am* grateful for the option to purchase the 1 yr warranty for an additional cost and for how quickly the new dryer was installed.) update 1/29/2018 the dryer is shrinking my clothes on the low heat setting, and there is no option to disable to the EXTREMELY LOUD cycle alert buzz. He and his brother are nice guys...know what they're talking about, and I trusted them. He cares about making sure appliances are set up properly and safely. He was really nice to my kid. I wish he didn't also sell dryers, bc I feel like I paid more than I should have/would have otherwise...but he got it in SO quickly and with the absolute bare minimum of inconvenience, which is obviously worth quite a lot! read more

I told the repair man Danny on the phone that we had an LG and that the compressor was bad. He came out took 2 seconds looking at it and then said yes itz the compressor but we don't fix those for LG. He knew full well he wasn't going to be able to fix and had the audacity to charge us $146. He basically ripped us off. Beware of this business. read more

I have a 20+ year old dishwasher that lost power mid cycle. Dan, the owner, returned my call within 30 minutes, was at my house within another 30 minutes, and repaired the dishwasher within 30 minutes. He had the replacement part on his vehicle . Dan's a nice, trustworthy guy, who has been repairing appliances for 50 years, and knows what he is doing. I highly recommend him. read more

This was the worst experience with a service repair person ever and a total waste of money. He was in my place less than 5 minutes and I still got charged 86.00 for him switching a breaker. Not friendly, talking on the phone to multiple customers and arrogant. As he was leaving he was too busy talking on the phone to see if I had any questions or comments. We've worked with Gary's Appliance Service twice now and couldn't be more satisfied. Daniel has been responsive, knowledgeable, honest, and really great at laying out options. For our dying refrigerator, he was able to extend its life by a month or so, which was a much better option than rushing out and having to purchase a new fridge that day. For our wall oven, he quickly identified the issue, helped me order the correct replacement part, and walked me through how to install it. This last point is what makes Daniel so great. Most places would recommend a course of action that would benefit them by way of a higher repair bill, but not Daniel. He's willing to help you find a way to solve your appliance problems in the most cost-effective way for you. read more

Poor customer service from the start. He asked me to send him all the information I had just submitted on Angie's List to him again. After several days he still had no update for me and when I asked him about if he had looked into anything he said I could do it (I know nothing about appliances which is why I was calling him as a...professional service?!) He used his age and being so busy as an excuse for poor customer service and wanted to charge me $200+ for coming to look without any guarantee he could fix it. This felt terrible to me so please beware and ask as many questions up front as you can when working with this company or Daniel and you may save yourself some time and money down the drain. read more

I cannot even give one star. I set up an appointment with this company to check my water line going to my refrigerator for water and the ice machine. The hose would make a loud shaking sound every time water was dispensed. The repair guy (don't want to mention his name) came over and told me the problem was that I needed a new filter. The filter was changed (I had a filter so I was not charged for one) and he fastened the hose in back to the back of the refrigerator so it was not drag on the floor. I was charged $166 dollars for less that 30 minutes of his time. I was using the ice machine and there was no noise. But, when the ice tray was empty I noticed no water from the hose was filling the machine. I checked the water dispenser and found that when I tried to get water the refrigerator made the same noise I originally called him to fix. I called him and told him that the fridge was not working. He told me it was not his fault and there was nothing he could do and then he hung up on me. Now I am out $166 and a I still have a broken fridge. I hope He was not taking advantage of me because I am a senior. read more

I called Dan Sickles on Thursday after I discovered my disposal wasn't starting - some sort of electrical problem. He came the next day and spent two hours getting it up and running, including a trip to Home Depot. It was a complex problem, and he identified a potential fire hazard also. Dan was called out to repair a dryer in one building and a washer in the building next door. When I telephoned Dan I left the name of each appliance on his voicemail. Dan came out and fixed the dryer. We then proceeded to the building next door. Dan already knew that the washer was a Maytag Neptune. Dan walked into the basement looked at the washer and announced that he does not work on Maytag Neptunes. He could have mentioned that before walking into the basement. Dan then told me that I owed him $40 for the service call and that he was doing me a favor by charging me half rate. Beware! Even if you tell Dan the type of appliance you have and he doesn't service them he will still charge you. Do not let him into your home until he confirms that he can work on your particular appliance. read more

My dryer would not heat up, so I decided to give Gary's Appliance Service a call. I was a bit surprised that Daniel answered his phone personally and immediately. He told me that he would try to swing by that day. He called later and said that the job he was on was taking longer than he anticipated, but would come by first thing in the morning. I expected, as with other appliance repair companies, that he would come and diagnose, order the part, and maybe be back in a week. He arrived with the new heating element (his van is unbelievably stocked with common parts) and installed it, and did a nice inspection and cleaning of the inside of the dryer along with the dryer vent. I called Gary's Appliance repair and had them come out to repair my stove that would not heat up any more. They came out quickly and said they need to order a part to fix the issue. I just called Garys Appliance in Tigard to see if they could help me get my grandmothers washing machine fixed while she's in the hospital. While I was asking questions Daniel was rude, short tempered, and interrupted me every other word. When he called me ma'am I corrected him to let him know actually, I'm a man. Immediately his tone changed. He shouted "YOUR TYPE IS GONNA NEED SOMEPLACE ELSE TO CALL!" and some other jumbled stuff I didn't catch and then hung up.
