Gary and his crew were phenomenal! I was traveling through Lubbock, from Las Vegas to Austin. We had been on the road for 3 days already and about to start our 4th and final day of driving. I needed some help with an automatic window motor issue that I had experienced before. Gary got me in the queue super fast so that I could get back on the road. He is a genuinely friendly human. And he gave me way more than just a fair price since the work wasn't quite as involved as we had originally anticipated. Since I am moving and don't have a job lined up yet, every penny really counts and Gary helped me out more than he could ever know. Can I also just mention this is the cleanest auto shop I've ever been in? The bathroom was remarkably clean and tidy. And his hospitality was on point. My daughter took her car in because her A/C wasn't cooling. After taking most of the day to diagnose, she was told the compressor was bad. She was quoted a price of a little over $2500. I called other places for price comparison and everywhere was much cheaper. Some over half the price for the same work. I called and spoke with Johnathon after having 5 other estimates and he started the conversation with strange, sympathetic comment about my teenage daughter. He then proceeded to explain to me how bad her car a/c was and tried to add unneeded work. I told him that the price he quoted was double what others had given me. He accused the others of not changing all necessary parts that they would be changing. I informed him that the others explained in same detail what all was needed. I asked him what he would say if one of his family members went to a shop and were treated this way as far as taking advantage of a college kid away from their parents. He said she could come pick up her car and pay the $172 diagnostic fee. He gave her a $20 "student discount" which is why we initially chose Gary's. Her car was fixed the next day, compressor and everything along with a new serpentine belt for $1000. Taking advantage of college kids, ESPECIALLY girls infuriates me. I would not recommend this place just for this reason. read more

I stopped by just before close and they had it ready first thing the next morning. My Honda maintenance code recently indicated that I needed to replace the 8 spark plugs in my little 4-cylinder hybrid. I called up Gary's to make an appointment and they told me to bring it in whenever I could. I was able to get it to them this morning. They replaced my spark plugs for a very fair price (and much less than a dealership would charge). And for the past several thousand miles I had been experiencing some very peculiar issues with my radio. Those have gone away completely now and my radio is working like it should once again. I will be getting Gary's to handle my brakes (still original at 210,000 miles) and any other work that needs done under the car soon. read more

Have had 2 great experiences getting Honda Civic repaired here. First auto zone told me my alternator needs to be replaced. It turned out to be the battery saving me a few hundred. If the shop was not honest they could have changed alternator and that's what I was expecting. Second time after getting tires brakes changed Gary called a few days later telling me he was able to salvage some parts that earned me back $105. He could have kept it but he went out of his way to be honest. How can I not do business with capable honest people. Has earned my business and as a former mechanic I considered myself very picky when selecting a repair shop. read more

We are not from Lubbock but went into town to drop my son at Tech. His brakes needed to be done and obtained a quote of $300-400. We dropped it off and had to leave the next day. John calls the next day to tell my husband (who grew up in an auto repair shop) that his vehicle requires "special performance brakes" that would have to be special ordered because they can't be bought at Auto Zone,etc and the new quote for the job is $1200-1500 for the front brakes!! My son's car is a Lexus GS350! My husband tried to reason with him letting him know the brakes can be found at Auto Zone for $75 each and are not hard to replace. He got rude so my husband told him my son would just pick up the vehicle which he said fine and still charged $50 which no big deal. When we went back so my husband could change the brakes (found at O'Riely for $70), he found that the lug nuts had been torqued with the impact wrench extra tight! We took the car to Discount Tire who with the tools they had still had a hard time getting them off. I just found that to be petty and unprofessional! Felt like they tried to take advantage since my son was at college and we didn't live there. Maybe not all employees are like John but small representation of how Gary's does service. read more

When my battery went out a few weeks later, they arrived to tow my car within minutes and installed a new battery for free as a previous, loyal customer. I lived near this place a couple years ago so I would drop my car off whenever it needed service. This ended up being a mistake. Every single repair they made hasn't lasted. It makes me think they didn't even repair anything or did a terrible job. They supposedly replace the wheel hubs in the front left and front right of my vehicle but a year and a half later, I am looking for the same repairs again. The OEM parts lasted 10+ years, why would these replacement parts go out so soon? They also worked on my transmission... another mistake I made. I'm on Yelp right now looking for a new shop because the "rebuild" transmission they put in had failed two years later. Again, how could the original last 10+ years and now, suddenly, my car can't keep a transmission? read more

NEVER TAKE YOUR CAR TO GARY'S AUTOMOTIVE!!!!! let me tell me about my experience with them in the past 24 hrs!!!! Overcharing for service I had my car towed in for brake issues at first they were really nice and respectful, but then when they diagnosed the problem as well as gave me a price. which was extremely over priced for the work that needed to be done! When I asked for an invoice to see what parts it need so I can check around to see where the better deal was. I was told by the owner Gary that they couldn't email, fax, or text it to me. The only option they gave me was to pick it up in person or mail it to me. then when it came time for me to pay them they charged $100 for diagnostic. they charged $50 for the diagnostic and $50 for labor! all they did was take 1 wheel off and on. they were also willing to send an email and a text with the invoice so I could sign and pay for the car but not to look around for a fair price. Then when I went in to go pay they were the rudest people I've ever met! I truly hate business that feel like that can try and get over on students because a they think were dumb and don't know any better, or they think just because were so far away from home our parents are just goin to pay for it because we have no other options!!! I usually don't post reviews but HONESTLY Gary's Service Center is THE BEST SERVICE CENTER in Lubbock, TX. Gary is FAIR, HONEST and TRULY CARES about his customers. I was a loyal customer at one of the dealership service centers in town for six years until that location tried to gouge me for unecessary repairs. I called Gary and told him about my experience at the dealership and Gary said that he would help me. Gary and his team are the BEST! Not only did Gary comfirm that the dealership was "inventing issues" with my vehicle but Gary also successfully diagnosed the "real issue" and repaired my car right away! GREAT repairs and GREAT customer service are what you will experience at Gary's Service Center. I can't recommend Gary enough! Gary's Service Center is NOW my go to place for ALL of my car repairs. Quality work. A little pricey to change an ignition coil ($110 labor) excluding price of the part. I was happy with the turn-around of less than one day. I would check other prices before deciding next time. Lastly, there was never a shuttle or anyone who would give me a ride back after dropping vehicle off. read more
